- It's been a while since my last video, life gets busy, but this one was a super cool experience.
My dog Jasper and I took a 2 night backpacking trip to the Elkhorn Mountains in Eastern Oregon to try to find some solitude and hunt some high altitude lakes for Brook Trout with a fly rod.
The scenery around camp in the lakes basin was amazing and we got to see a big herd of mountain goats throughout the trip.
We also did a side trip hike up Elkhorn Mountain to take in the view.
The mood of this trip was calm and peaceful and hopefully this video conveys that. Normally I don't make videos this long but splitting it up didn't seem right. So grab a snack and beverage and take a trip with me.
Enjoy.
La Grande resident here. Love these mountains, nothing quite like it.
I enjoyed this video. I miss the mountains of Eastern Oregon.
Thanks man! Yeah, there is some crazy cool scenery in that part of the state!
One the hidden gems of Oregon.
I hunted that area with friends back a few years ago. While our hunt wasn’t successful, I fell in love with the beauty of the elkhorn range.
The scenery is beautiful !
It is pretty unbelievable!
Hey man! Love it. Fishin with yer best buddy.
Thanks! Jasper is the best!
I’m in Sinaloa Mexico and it’s obvious to me from here and through the screen that Jasper is the best. @@ryangoesoutside
What a good dog!
Thanks man, Jasper is the best!
Looks like fun! Absolutely epic country/scenery.
Very awesome scenery. I need to go back and hike the whole 20 miles and see the other lakes!
Looks like it was an amazing trip! A lot of good hook ups and views to die for. Thanks for taking us along and keep up the great work!!!
Thanks man, it was more awesome than I even hoped! Thanks for checking out the vid!
awesome video man!
Thanks dude! Can't wait to explore more of that range.
Great adventure!
Thanks, it sure was!
Dude awesome video! Found your video while learning/looking for people that fly fish high lakes in Oregon. Caught my first 2 brookies in a creek last week. Taking the fly rod into the great 8 lake basin this year, Always spinning rod fished successfully but hoping fly rods will do it too! keep the videos coming!
Thanks man! There are definitely some good high lakes to fish but it can be tough with a fly rod sometimes. I spent some time throwing rooster tails with a spin setup when I was younger but I love the art of fly fishing so that's the rod I usually pack now. Good luck out there, hopefully you find more gorgeous brookies!
Small fish but very fun.Thank's.
Yeah, little fish but the amazing scenery makes it worth it!
There is gold there
Great video. I gave you a sub, and look forward to checking out more of your content. We have a bit of overlap in places we fish and film. Tight lines!!
Thanks man! Maybe we'll run into each other sometime!
👍🏻👍🏻
I have not been up in the Elkhorns since I was a kid
I definitely need to spend more time there!
Great video. What flies did you use?
Thanks man! I was probably using Adams flies most of the time, they are pretty much my go to. Although I did pretty good towards the end of the trip using small wooly buggers too.
I am curious about your shirt Stoakridge...
That spelling of Stoak is a spelling I only see when I am related to someone.
It's a play on words. The town of Oakridge in Oregon is known for its mountain biking trails. They are super fun so people get "stoked" to go ride there, hence the name Stoakridge.
Too bad that dog don't like the water.
