Based on actual content, this video should be one minute long.
Yeah, disliked the video due to the fact that he's clearly intentionally ranting so he can drag out the video for as long as possible until it hits the 10 min mark.
Yeah, it was a lot of rambling.

yup. even on 2x playback speed it was still way too slow.
2 minutes would be acceptable too
I own the M50X, but I've also tried both to use and compare for sometime. Yes the M50X have more bass to it, and I don't really feel the highs annoy me at any point. I use my headphone to monitor my instruments and my voice when I'm recording, I also use it to mix some songs, and I also use it when watching some movies and playing some competitive games. I know a bit about audio and here's my explanation of the M50X and the M40X aspects.
First, the M50X is more of a full package. Whether you want to use it for monitoring, casual listening, or even watching movies and gaming, it's really great. I enjoy using it to monitor when I'm recording and compared to the M40X, it's not that different. It doesn't make me regret buying the M50X. Yes you could hear the lows more on the M50X, but it's not that noticeable when you are monitoring. I really heard the difference when I'm testing it with a bass heavy song. The bass feels really punchy in the M50X. So if you say the M50X is bad for monitoring, I really don't agree with you. Yes the M40X is flatter, but have you tried it to monitor when you're recording? Or you just talk over the internet hype?
Second, it's what you use it for. This part is actually continuing the first point. If you only buying the headphones for monitoring or mixing or maybe editing purpose which you don't want even the slightest more bass to your cans, go for the M40X. And if you want to use it more for gaming, watching movies, listening to music casually, I'd say go for the M50X. It's way fun, and also better for those occasions. I'm not saying that M40X is way better for monitoring and M50X is way better at entertainment. Both headphones are great for both kind of activities. So if you have the M40X and you mock the M50X but you mostly use it for entertainment purposes, I'd say you just denying that you don't buy the M50X (I don't say the M40X is bad for those, but it just doesn't have the 'fun' edge). Trust me, there's no joy of listening to music, watching movies, and playing games in a flatter response. It's just pure boring. Back to it, if you have more cash to spare, I'd say go for the M50X because it's also great for monitoring, mixing, and editing while having an advantage for the entertainment side. Which took us to the third point.
Third, budget. If you have a tight budget and thinking that $50 difference could be a dealbreaker for you, hit on the M40X. But if you have more and you want the best of it, go for the M50X. The build qualty feels better on the M50X. And if you can't buy the M50X because of your budget, don't mock the M50X. And if you have the M50X, also don't mock the M40X. Both are great cans.
Bottom line, if you have more cash or money's not your problem, go for the M50X. It's a great all rounder headphones in my opinion. The sound signature is what also makes it a great piece of can from a long time, which is great to listen to for any songs. And to watch films, it's fun, not somewhat mindblowing. And for games, I played CS:GO, PUBG, and R6S, I could say it's really good. I've even compared it to some other gaming headphones such as Razer Kraken, HyperX Cloud II, and SteelSeries Arctis 5, and would say the M50X is way better on the overall experience. And some other points to say, I saw a lot of artists, musicians, producers, studios, and also youtubers used the M50X. Dua Lipa, Lauv, Kolusola, Lauv, MKBHD, and much more. But if you have a tighter budget and still want a great audio experience, go for the M40X. It's also a great and neutral set of cans. My friend owned them and really enjoyed using them (Note: He only use it for entertainment purposes). So the M40X is also a great buy.
Another thing to say. If you liked the M50X but you wanted to change the sound, it's easy. Just change the earpad. If you liked bass stick with the stock earpads. If you want a flatter response, go for a velour earpads. The velour really toned down the bass and highs, and also make the vocals sounded more forward, which I really love to use when hearing or mixing instrumental songs. Lastly, if you still like the original sound signature, but want it to be more controlled, get the Shure SRH840 pads. I use it most of the time on my M50X. The bass is punchier but more controlled (still great to listen but not to the point where it gave you a headache), the mids and the highs is clearer, better details on some records, and slightly better soundstage. And the Shure pads boost the comfort of it.
That's all I wanted to say, I tried not to be bias as I've compared both for different types of usage, done some research, and also done some serious listening on both. Hope you get a better Idea of what you wanted to buy. Cheers mate :)
That's the most sensible comment on here. Helped me out a lot with making my decision, thanks!
@@imadkhan9510 what did you end up choosing, and for what purpose are you going to be using the headphones? I'm also very indecisive between the two
Thanks for helping me making my decision, totally agree, m50x was so good for entertainment, i've sold a pair of HyperX Cloud Alpha for this one
Damn this comment was more helpfull than this whole video

reason 1: they are cheaper
reason 2: better sound quality
reason 3: they are bigger. in his opinion, uglier.

Not having Bluetooth DOES NOT make the M50x outdated. A Bluetooth headphone and a wired headphone are 2 SEPERATE markets. No high end headphone will have Bluetooth. There's an entire market of DACs and amps and Bluetooth doesn't come into play as a feature in the least bit. You should have also mentioned the overall more robust build quality of the M50x. Other than that good video.
Riposte They're good for listening to music. That is the main reason they're so popular. If the M50 wasn't good for listening to music Audio Technica would have NEVER released the M50x with the 3 different removable cables. Most people that have issues with the high frequencies being too strident have issues with their source, DAC or amp....or possibly all three.
Panda Cockwad As I said above...you will NEVER see a high end or performance oriented pair of headphones with Bluetooth. It degrades the signal. Bluetooth is a convenience feature NOT a performance feature.
Panda Cockwad For gym use I'll take the hit in quality. For home use I have no problem with a wire. Wires are good. Without a wired connection we have no connectivity.
Panda Cockwad I've installed dozens of bluetooth enabled devices in vehicle in the past few years and I'm sorry but the quality isn't there. Transmit source signal from tablet....typical system..... back to the amps gets you sound but it doesn't retain full fidelity. Maybe the units aren't state of the art. But I know anyone that's into high end car audio is NOT using bluetooth. Audio is audio.
404 Error Not Found Well, not exactly. It’s a third party Bluetooth adapter. Some stores just sell them bundled.
I have a feeling that close to everyone who's rooting for the M40X has a pair of M40X and everyone who's rooting for the M50X has a pair of M50X.
I have a pair of both 🙌 rooting for m40x
Casper Ko doesn't exactly take a genius to figure that out
I also had both for about a month. It was pretty apparent the M50x had a boost in the low end. I returned em and kept the M40x's as they sounded more balanced. They sounded very similar to my Yamaha HS7's.
By your logic, Yankee fans would root for Yankees, Red Sox for Red Sox.. sure buddy, and Oswald didnt act alone right?.. tell us another tale Mr. conspiracy theorist!.. haha
For the record. I have neither, but am looking to get some new ones, I've had these Sony-N1s for a while now, love the sound, love the battery life and charge time.. only issue with em is there hideous appearance, and I play golf in em every day, they're a little loose, and have come flying off a few times, thus far luck has held up, but with the plastic swivel area so small, it's only gonna take one drop to a hard surface and these are a wrap..
yeah, Audio-technica better than Audio-technica
It's true
Lol
Facts
Idk man i think Audio-technica is way better
No bro you can’t compare them with Audio-technica !
I came here for the comments, video ain't helping.
i just ordered m50x, hopefully they will be ok for my type of listening
Tried both headphones at an audio cafe, using all the proper audio interface and what not. Bought the M50x. No regrets. But who am I to judge this? Some random guy will probably comment "you should've bought the beyervmodasonybeats 9000 instead".
you should've bought the beyervmodasonybeats 9000 instead
Yeah 😌
your choice, your loss, got a pair of m40's myself
zac nvcshjbvdbs yeah after tuning in with numerous audio signature for 2 weeks at an audiophile cafe owned by audiophile/expert, im still at loss? enlighten me
Nobody is gonna tell you to buy beats lol
I had the m40x and i absolutely loved them. I didn't use them for studio reasons, just for casual listening as i HATE heavy bass in my music and many headphones boost the bass. I also loved that i heard every part of the song equally and heard things/instruments that i didn't know were there when i had been listening to the song for years. They were my first pair of "good" over ear headphones. They actually got crushed due to my bf actually stepping on them so my fault and his but i would definately purchase again.
Would the 40x be best for guitar modelling software (Guitar Rig, Peavey ReValver, TH3 etc) and also with the Kemper?
I have both. If u produce or edit music, the m40x is the better option. If you're just listening to music id say m50x. I make beats and when I use the m40x it translates much better
same here !! in my car the mixes with m40x are not perfect but sounds better than m50x .... when i listen a track with m40x, i dont skip the track lol :)
What do you think about construction and differences in durability? I just checked for used models and found some m40x's with broken headband might be a common issue?
I'm a musician and I am using since long the M50x, but I just got also a M40x recently. Main 40x purpose is as a on-the-road/battlefield headphones, to keep my M50x devoted to studio applications.
I like them both a lot: M40x is more "woody" and with a warmer mid-range, while the M50x shines a lot more in the high and low frequencies. A very good combo IMHO also for critical listening.
i JUST got my m40x headset and ive never had good quality headphones before. they are legit blowing my mind. i keep listening to music i love and going "wait what?" i keep hearing things i never noticed before. these things are awesome and i want the m50 just to compare and own them both.
Hi, from wich shop did you buy the ear pads for the Audio technica M50x ?
And wich Model exactly?
I need recommendations on studio monitors to mix/produce music with either the m-40x or status audio closed back headphones, or is there anything else that you recommend
silent saucepan - Shure SRH-840's- and JBL-LSR305's
I'm actually getting a pair of M50x's today but I use to own a pair of M40's and when it comes to music producing the M40x did an amazing job the equal balance really helped me determine how the final version of the song would sound even before mastering the tracks. Also note that I was making rock, metal, and rap music with friends do it did its job, unfortunately after years and constant use they broke so hopefully the M50x does the M40x justice. Fingers crossed.
how did they compare?
@@Stizy commenting to get notified when he responds
@@Stizy after 2 years of use the M50X are some amazing sounding headphones, I will say I am impressed.
I have to admit they have a small amount of extra bass that wasn't present in the M40's which depending on the type of music you are creating it may effect how the master sounds, however it isn't a deal breaker the difference isn't noticable unless someone actually looks for it, thankfully the M50X makes up for it with superb sound that allows me to distinguish if a song or instrument has been compressed too much or if there's too much bleeding in between instruments that could potentially make the entire track sound muddy.
Personally for me it is a very tough choice between the M40X or the M50X, I believe both are amazing headphones with great sound, but if you are looking for a precise flat sound the M40X are still amazing headphones that I would definitely recommend for everyone to try out at least once. The M50X sound amazing as well and even though I did say there seems to be some added bass it won't effect a final mix in a negative way.
Are both of these good for fps gaming like r6s and CS:GO as well as listening to music? I've only ever used earbuds
I've had a pair of Beats Studio 1.0's for over 4 years now, they are really worn down now and am considering purchasing another headphone with a similar feel and better sound quality, is this a good alternative?
Haven't used the M50x, but I can vouch for the M40x as I've had a pair for nearly 3 years. I went with the M40x because of them being tuned more flatly. I want the most accurate sound for editing, mixing and use with my electronic drum set. There's a reason why audio professionals don't use freaking Beats. The bass boost distorts the actual sound and I don't see why a musician or audio professional would want that. Nothing else on the market can touch the M40x at that price point either.
Hello! Thanks for helping me out. You got the point. Using m40x for mixing is a much better option like you said "the bass boost distorts the actual sound and I don't see why a musician or audio professional would want that". Will purchase the m40x. I can listen back the result of my mixing on my JVC sound system with subwoofer to decide wether I have to add more to the low end, or not.
@@gergovagyok4191 No problem! Glad you found my comment helpful. After close to 5 years with my pair of M40x, my only issue has been that the swivel arm that holds one of the ear cups has broken (not sure what else to call it haha). Currently one side is held together by tape, so I honestly need to replace them. That being said, I certainly got my money’s worth out of them and would absolutely buy another pair.
When it came time to choose between ATH m40x and m50x, I got the 40's because they were on sale ($80.00) but more importantly to me, they are better for monitoring due to no emphasized bass. I also have cans by Sony (mdr900st; Japanese version of the mdr 7506), but the ATH are more comfortable to wear for long sessions. Also have Ultrasone phones (2 different models) which I also like very much.
I have more precision with my mdr 7506 and more emotions, but on other supports my mixes with m40x sound better .......

1:00 "bless you... hope you get over your cold soon"
Listening with my M40x right now and these are awesome.
Niiice! Enjoy
I got M40x. And they are worth every. single. penny. Tested m50x and they indeed have better bass, but no headphones I tested beats sound purity of M40x. Something true audiophile will appreciate a lot. 10/10 would and will buy again.
I listen to live recordings in FLAC format using a Fiio x5iii. I mostly listen to the Grateful Dead and other jam bands. Which one would suit that style best?
for general music consumptions, which one is a better buy? is 50x worth the additional bucks?
Point is whatever u have, u will be happy, both are perfect
Picked up some fairly used M50X for $40 and after cleaning, washing the ear pads and then odor control with activated charcoal they sound pretty good. A week later a fella with a like new pair of M40X responded and I offered only $30 since I already had the M50X. Wow glad I picked up the M40X as I really prefer them most of the time over the M50X. The bass seems tighter and louder to me with the M40X. So new two favs are the SHP9500 & M40X. My Sony V6 & M50X are extras now.
Just picked up another like new pair of M40X with both cables and bag for $30. I have many different places and people in the home for multiple pairs of headphones. I just bought my 5th pair of SHP9500 for family lan. Open back is the way to go when LAN gaming in the same room with people. Keep the volume in check and you can easily communicate with those you are gaming with in room.
I've seen many m40x with broken hinges, does the m50x have better quality hinge parts?
I like m40x sound, do you recommend me anything in-ear headphones with similar sound? (incl. wireless)
hello. please can I find a nice mids in there? I need mids for my work and I am afraid these will be very V - shaped eq. thanks for a beautiful review
Thanks for your views. I'm shopping for my first headphone purchase in over 20-years and am leaning toward the M40x. Thumbs up!
What is that stand that the headphones are on?
Bought a M40x few months ago. It sounds excellent and wide. Instrument separation is also good. Great details. There is a boost around 8 - 11 KHz but not too much and that boost delivers little, nice top end details pleasing my ears :)
There is a M60X now.
Whatsup guys, I already have senhiser hd 201 headphones. It have clear crisp sound for mixing..but low volume & not good for monitoring at all. I looking to get a new headphone for make beats. I have this 4 to pickup. Audio-Technica ATH-M40x, Sony MDR-7506 or high priced noise cancelling headphones Sony’s MDR-1000X, BOSE QuietComfort QC25 . do you know about them ? whats good for make beats, monitoring & mixing?
I had and broke my M40X and have spent six hours a day over 6 weeks with the 50X. If you want an out-of-the-box solution for mixing or listening to sweet and accurate sound, go for the M40X. If however, you're good at using an equalizer go with the 50X. With eq they are significantly better than the 40X. You're equalizing to tighten the lower end and tame the midrange a bit.
Out of these two which one do you recommend for sound editing or designing?
I realize this is 3 years old, but where did you get the M50x in black with white ear cups? I don't see this anywhere, not even as "discontinued". Those look way nicer than the pure white or pure black ones.
hi! may i know what earpads you're using for the m50x?
My M50x's sound relatively flat to me. I did change the ear pads a while back to slightly thicker ones, so my ears are slightly further away from the drivers, which seems to tighten up that low end just a little bit and bring out the midrange slightly more. I haven't heard the M40x for comparison, but i'm very happy with the way the 50s sound to me.
Can Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 audio interface be like Dac/amp for Audio Technica mx50x headphones?? Is it matching?? Thank you! !!
yes
Hey odi wanna know do u buy these headphones for review? Would be glad to know
i need to know if i may lost quality sound if i buy a refurbished version
So what if we looked at it in reverse. What is the catch, what are the compromises made on the M40X? Build quality, yes. Less bass (not a compromise for me but might be for some). What else? Volume? Balance?
Where did you get those skins? The m50x skin you've got looks great!
What pads did you put on your M50x they look sic?
To start off, I own both of these pair of headphones. The m40s sound slightly flatter that is true. BUT it is a negligible difference. You can get frequency response graphs from multiple sources online. If i showed you both you wouldn't know which is which by looking at it. To say there is "lots of boosting of the highs and bass" is just plain wrong. As a bonus as well the m50xs have a higher grade of quality control and build quality to begin with. The m50s are flat out more comfortable and the hinges don't just flop around when I pick up the cans.
(On the note of quality control. I had to send my first pair of m40xs back because they had issues with the drivers popping and now the second ones lean the audio to the right side.)
In conclusion: Both are very good headphones I love them both and use them both often. But to say the m40x is a much better buy or just a better pair of headphones is wrong. I guarantee the people saying this have never tried both pairs or are just mad they didn't pay the 50 more dollars to get the nicer pair.
Thanks for the unbiased comment. This is very helpful
I've used my m40s for on average 6-8 hours a day, 600 days, and they are still fine!
The m50 have a nasty treble spike.
The best thing you can do is to go to a store and test them. I recommend to go to Guitar Center which have them on display.
the sound is negligible, sure...
but
the extra 50 dollars.
too bad i cant return my m50x's. i got dealt snake oil.
which one sound more louder in general without any EQ or plug into an amp i mean loud max volume without any distortion
hi. does the m50x have bigger ear cups than the m40x?
at the end of the video you said there are headphones you'd rather use? what would those be? I'm looking into buying heaphones soon and so far the M50x sound like they're for me, but would love to hear some other options.
RadaSmada Which genres do you listen?
what one do you prefer for beat making?
what's that custom earpads that you have on the m50x? links?
Can you tell me what velour ear pads use on m50x? Thanks
This video pops up in my feed one day after I get the MX50s
Had 40x first, now I have both. Used to think they were marginally different, not any more.
Feed both the same flat signal and both sound great, but very low freq content is clearly more evident on 50x. Also, and this surprises me, 50x is louder overall on my phone or pc. Clearly sensitivity is more significant than impedance in that respect.
M50x is more ruggedly constructed, heavier and more solid feeling in the hands.
I can see why for mixing 40x is preferred, but for pure home entertainment, if forced to choose, as fantastic as 40x is, I'll take 50x all day and night.
Coom video! I've had the M35 pair for years and I was very happy with it. It recently broke and I'm thinking of buying one of these two. How does the M35 compare to these? Also, if anybody minds reccomending me any other models any other brands in this price range, I'll be very thankful.
I'm not an audiophile. But is it good for music? I have a gaming headset but i think need to buy another one for music and movies. Thanks!
Would you recommend those over AUDIO TECHNICA ATH-AVA400 open back? They are the same price, but I am not shore which sound better.
go for open back if u dont care about isolation
so.. which on have better base for edm music?
I need one of the headphones for gaming......
50's or 40's please help me
Just EQ mirrored frequency curves for perfect flatness. For my phone I use the app Neutralizer. For my PC I use Sonarworks Reference.
Ikr
thank you. this video has made me finalize my purchase. I was definitely thinking about getting the m50 but going to buy the m40x with a amp.
The m40x really really benefits from a proper amp, good on you.
which one should i buy for gaming
Nice vid bro, keep it up.
#1 - 1:52 = Price
#2 - 3:33 = Sound Quality
#3 - 6:41 = Style
thank you
I have been convinced by the part of price, thanks a lot for saving money :)
Do you think the pads on the m50x are more comfortable compared to the m40x?
+
fuck, now i cant decide which one to buy, thx for nothing........ ;)
Hahaha. Can't go wrong with either choice!
Helvegen m50x for v shaped sound. m40x for less of a vshaped closer to neutral. Look at the HD598cs much more comfortable without pad change
im really enjoying my HD598cs, far more then my old m50xs
get the B&W P7 :D (but seriously go for either dt 990 or hd598)
What about using these for gaming? Specifically ps4 gaming
Listening to this through AKG 50Ys via Scarlett Solo and hoping the ATH-M40x I've ordered is going to be an upgrade!
what if you got the m50x for m40x price?
Which one should I get I need studio headphones for flats I need that true sound no added whatever to make it sound better
M40X
Ok I'm confused I just got my m50x today and for some who just switched over from apple ear pods I'm not blown away with the m50x. I mostly listen to rock/metal and orchestral do u think it would sound better with m40x because I tested techno with the m50x and it sounded very gud but I don't like techno. Plz help I only have 30 days to return.
Should i get the m40x or the sennheiser 4.40bt
I got the m50x and a fiio x3 2nd gen....some songs sound awful with harsh highs and some sound awesome even at max volume.
There's any ohm variations on m40x like 35ohm 80hm or 250om please reply 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'd like to have something like ATH-M40x - balanced sound (for both listening and creating music) under 100 $, but also open-back and comfortable to wear for entire day during work (skype calls etc.)
I would say that you would want to use an equalizer to get better sound with some studio headphones because you can controll so much with an equalizer and not have flat. Even with eq settings changed you can still hear a lot of detail with the m40x and you can really notice every single thing even with a song with a lot of layers. I would not call these headphones entry level though as they are clear af but the m20x is more like an entry level one. I like how the m40x do not leak a lot of sound so people around you will jot reslly be able to hear music through your headphones as much as with some other headphones. These are the most comfterble headphones I have ever used.
Somebody please tell me which pair is More Comforable?
What headphones are best for around £150?¿?
I was thinking of buying the 40X for travel purposes. My main headphones are Beyerdynamic DT 770 pros, and they're great, but I'm almost nervous that the Audio Technicas would be better than the BDs.
Is it worth buying a Audio-technica ath-m40x, or the m20-30x is good enough for gaming or listening to music with a smartphone ?
Nice review!
IMHO for the price, M40x is a better buy for sure. If you like bit more bass, but still have all the merits of 40x, you can add it in equaliser a bit ( like I did in spotify). For casual listener ABSOLUTELY NO difference in sound quality, you just get a bit extra oomph on bass, and it becomes bit more enjoyable + 320 kbps quality does its job. The flatter tuning doesn't mean it cannot provide bass, 40x has infinite bass, its just whether the actual song has it, as this is "accurate" headphone. Additionally, I like its slicker and smaller design.
Unless you totally listen purely Hip-Hop and alike, where bass is critical, I would recommend 40x for everyday use. Tho 50x is still really nice and maybe even better than 40x, but hence the price.
Thanks for the input man! Great to hear your thoughts
0ѝ7ұěĻėÇ十ř0 what you mean by testing? It is just comparison. In bad headphones there wont that much noticeable difference between 160 and 320 kbps, comparing to good headphones like 40x or 50x, where you will notice diff in quality.
Aleksejs Semjonovs if I listen to country music and classic rock, and price is not an issue which would be better in your opinion?
Its difficult to tell :D
If price and size is not an issue, probably 50x then I think, as it is a bit more comfy and probably a bit better quality. I got 40x cause of subtle difference in quality and quite not subtle difference in price.
If you like the sound to be richer and you are not familiar with EQ, then 50x again. Cause 40x sounds good, but cause of its monitoring purpose it lacks bass a bit and I tuned it via EQ to sound perfectly for me (V shape tuning).
Aleksejs Semjonovs thank you!
is the M50X better for Hardstyle i love base so idk??
if u have both headphones or ever listen with those, and still ask which one is better, just go with the cheaper one. U don't know or can't feel the differences anyway.
I think this is the best comment in this video's comment section

I can't find the 40s in BT...what do I do
Also look into Technics RP1210. They also sell for 100$ or slightly above and I find them just the best all-rounder sans soundstage.
thank u for making this video :)
Which is better to use for listening to a music like "Punk/Hardcore"?
