Ikea was our GO-TO place in Taiwan and Shanghai. Sadly the closest one to me at Myrtle Beach is in Charlotte NC. The furniture and accessories we have purchased over 8 years in Asia have been EXTREMELY durable and are timeless in design and function. At this moment, I am looking at a big book shelf and two smaller bookcases we have used 15 years plus numerous other chests and cabinets that have served us well.

I have worked at ikea and I am also Swedish. Funny that you mentioned that the staff often stays on the side. In Sweden, most people do not like salespeople who are too much in your face. We want to be left alone as much as possible. The names of the Ikea furniture have different meanings. Godmorgon (the sink cabinet) for example means good morning and söderhamn is a Swedish city (most couches are named after citys).

Most of their products come from overseas. Also many stores were selling through click and collect and on-line. They sold much of their stock at that time and had a hard time restocking because no shipping because borders are closed. They are slowly trying to refill stock. And don't bother looking for kids desks and tables from anywhere. Most kids will not be going to school this year. Those things have been sold as they restock.

I start in the As-Is section and work my way backwards. This is because there are a lot of really good DIY finds that you can gather there for CHEAP and then add on whatever you need. Fabric, brackets, etc by shopping the rest of the store. I love getting wood there as shelving bits and other types of their wood is marked down $2 or less often times, depending on size.

One secret I learned just a few weeks ago...some of their furniture pieces or doors are only available for shipping or local delivery. The delivery to my home is $129.00 for a piece that costs $60.00. So I asked if I can go pick up the piece from their warehouse from where the origin of the delivery would be. That was possible and cost me only the gas to go there, approximately 15 minutes further from the store itself. Only thing they didn’t tell me is that they are only open until 2 pm, and one HAS to wait for the call that the piece arrived to the warehouse. Asking is the key, as the sales person really wanted me to pay the delivery fee.

I was so glad to know that I didn't have to walk through the whole store to get to the plastics downstairs - or the mugs. Having to walk through the whole store is the biggest turnoff for me - and seems to take forever. I'm not much of a shopper anymore, so when I go, I generally have something in mind and not trying to browse. Good tips. Listening from Poland where we also have Ikea stores here. I learned that trick by seeing that there was an exit where I hadn't thought there would be and a direct shot to the staircase and downstairs - of course they don't point it out but I saw others heading there shortly after entering the store on the upper floor.

I've been using the secret shortcuts of years. I've gone to IKEA just to shop on the ground level. Several years ago I got their baking dishes, like Pyrex just less expensive. IKEA baking dishes are much more durable than Rachel Ray's baking dishes, I had 2 sets of rather expensive Rachel Ray baking dishes crack within a few months of purchase. After that I said screw it I'm going to IKEA. I also have IKEA silverware, had it for 10 years and still in excellent condition. My kids have IKEA mattresses and they are great. I cannot think of a single problem I've had with an IKEA purchase.

Also, for any questions you should try to find someone in a yellow shirt because blue shirt coworkers are generally not trained to sell and know info about products.

IKEA’s online shopping is full of issues, first they never have enough items for online, when you are gone shopping at checkout time, 90% of items are not available. Why can’t they tell the customers before. Their shipping prices are outrageous.

    • @MrGeezuz
      @MrGeezuz 2 роки тому +4

Their shipping prices are not included or "free" like some other retailers, because IKEA believe in fair pricing and not to let the majority of their customers, who actually pick up their goods themselves, pay for the "free" delivery that just inflate the prices across the board. There is no such thing as free shipping, somewhere along the line YOU or the supplier/ manufacturer is paying the price.

Enjoyed your video. Just wanted to add an extra item in working with the floor sales associates as they can break down items into components. In my case I wanted to buy a sleeper sofa but it wasn't in stock. However, the sales associate was able to look deeper and see that all of the components except the mattress were in stock. So he built two lists, one of items available now and another of items to order online or later. This let me get started on the project and it was relatively easy to fill in the missing parts later. (Should also mention this was partly driven by the low stock in most Ikea locations so grabbing anything seemed like a good idea.)

I’m kinda curious about Kohl’s and how good a deal Kohl’s Cash actually is. I mostly focus on clearance items from there, but... Well, if you need to return something to Amazon, you can take it to some Kohl’s locations to return the item faster and for free (which gets you your refund faster). When you do that, they give you a 25% off coupon (for use in store only)... so it’s all very tempting.

I used to live near a Kohls and shop there all time. Bed fast now, don't get to shop. Kohls gas the best coupon deals, wait until a sale day, take the coupon you have been holding on to, shop the deals in store and you end up with each deal being used which gives you the item for about half price or better. Love those coupon deals they just keep piling on..

First time I saw your video. Love the shortcut through the store. I had already been doing that, or I ask an associate for the shortcut. I didn't know it was on their walkthrough pamphlet. I will have to pick one up.
Also, at our IKEA, $5.00 for pick up, but then they give us a $5.00 IKEA gift card, so basically it's free.
    Love that❣

Secret #8 comes in handy many times, In the IKEA Bahrain store, there was a sale, and they had this little office drawer for a good price (I think it was well under $20), but here's the problem, it was out of stock in the warehouse, but, fortunately, I approached the associate in the Office section and told him that it was out of stock, then we gave him our number, so he can update us. A day later (I think), the associate messaged back saying he can sell the display unit to us, then few days later, Got that little drawer. Good customer service!

Wow, all great things I didn't know about Ikea. I love to go to Ikea on rainy or very hot or freezing days and park underground and take my daily walk, but through the store. Not only do I get exercise, but I also get to envision how I might incorporate their products, no umbrella or bulky coat required. I rarely buy, but sometimes I find just the right item. Thanks

I buy their thermal food totes. They are the best. A nice lime green or grey only. Leakproof lined. Cloth outside, with net pokets onthe outside, to hold phone, glasses and miscellaneous. Looks like a classy beach bag. They run about 7.00, but on Mondays they had specials of buy 4 ger one free. Many people asked where I bought it from.

For tip #8 - I’ve done that 3 times. The salesperson gave me a piece of paper to take with the item to the As-is section where they gave the item a price. I got a heart covered black and with pillow for $2 because the salesperson put a tiny joke in it getting it off the display. Doing that and shopping the as-is section first are my two favorite ikea tips.
