It actually looks and runs pretty good now, Season OG definitely improved upon the graphics this time around. Chapter 4 on Switch was dreadful so i'm happy they actually put some love into the Switch port for once.

Fortnite is looking way better than ever on nintendo switch almost no lag and graphics improved, glitches are also getting fixed

It might run 'okay' when there's nothing much going on, but as soon as opponents stack up and/or you are in complex settings, it habitually drops into the 20-30fps zone, which is unplayable versus anyone not on a Switch and makes aiming impossible during the frame drops.

thats why i play on xbox and Playstation cause the fps is better on those platforms, im leaving my nintendo switch for pokemon games only

This was a really interesting look back! I played on switch when Fortnite first dropped on it, then moved to PC when the DS4 gyro control update came out.
I had no idea about the FPS dealing more or less damage. I’m a little surprised you didn’t cover how physics were removed around Season 9 and re added around C2S4 (or C2S5, I don’t remember).

@@nathanieltyghe4526 Physics didn't work on cosmetics. For example, Drift's cloak moves like a cloak would. But on Switch, it was really stiff and just stayed still.

I used to play competitively on switch, but there's only so far you can get on switch handheld, so I saved up enough to start playing on PC. I have a lot of memories with switch, but it isn't the same as getting to switch to a newer console to get to enjoy the game more, and I only really remember it for the bugs.

I play on switch, and I’ve always thought it’s pretty good. The 30 fps feels like 45, no lag at all, and it’s super nice to play on.
Edit: if I ever get a ps5 or Xbox I’ll probably switch to that, but Nintendo switch is super reliable, atleast for me

I dropped the Switch version as soon as I got my PS5, and never looked back.
But when I was away from home, and the Star Wars event happened in CH 4 S2. I played most of it on my switch. And it made me appreciate the port much more then I originally did
The switch version is for people without better ways to play or when playing away from home where it would be harder for people to bring their bigger and bulkier consoles which now that mobile is gone on the App Store means more than it did before
I play on 120fps on ps5 but even when I go back to my switch 30 fps it’s still natural for me the little device still packs up a fight for it’s age
Yeah, back then there was a lot of things that they still needed to fix, but today the game runs way better and it's my preferred way to play. Although, I do wish that Nintendo had a better system that could closely match what the other consoles are doing since I would love to see that level of graphics on the Switch. The one thing that I've always hated them doing is taking out the capture feature. Like, maybe don't do 30 seconds, but limited to 10 or 15? If not then just let us view replays so we can have clips to post on the socials...
The point of removing clips was RAM and performance.
Replays use a lotta RAM and performance.

I played Fortnite on switch since C2S5 but stopped at C4S4. The game ran great especially for how weak the switch is. The only major issue I had was that it took up so much storage space that a SD card was basically needed if you wanted to play FN on switch.
Get a cheap SD card the more storage the better, I got one ironically bc of fortnite

Yes, the switch is weak in comparison to the other systems, but when all things considered, let’s which is basically a seventh gen system in terms of specs, but many games have proven that if you work within the switch is limitations then you’ll get some great performance out of it as games like Metroid prime remastered has proven, which is one of the best looking, if not the best working game on switch.

This was a cool look back at how I used to play the game! Up until the end of 2021 I mainly played on Switch and it was fun but always had it's issues. I play on PC now but I always had a fondness for this version, thankfully I have tons of other games I can play on my Switch in it's place.
I have played fortnite on switch for 5 years and i have got lag and didnt see anything bad with the graphics until you showed how the ps5 looked
I play on switch and PC. When im tired of being sitted because I worked all day on my laptop, beeing able to lay down and still play the same game is a blessing for me, even with the reduced performance. I can rest my back and neck and still play with friends.
I am currently in Phillipines, and I can keep playing with my friends in Mexico while using voice chat, no problem, using the laptop and the switch.
Also, back in the pandemic my business was blooming and I bought switches for my nieces and nephews. we had a blast in co-op, all in the same room, much better than playing online if you ask me.
i love the switch version, there's a ton of issues and cutbacks but overall the game is fully featured and it looks and plays great especially on the small screen in portable mode.
honestly don't think i would be so into fortnite or have been able to complete all my BPs if it wasn't for the switch version. doing all my daily quests and logging in for a match or two on switch is just so fast and convenient.
Considering that ive been playing fn on the switch since c1 season 4, this video was a fun way to reminisce on both the game and improvements over the years
Coming from a multi-platform guy that started off gaming with Nintendo, I love Nintendo Switch. I was super hyped for its launch and have enjoyed the console-hybrid ever since the beginning.
But honestly I really think it's time for Nintendo to consider upgrading and getting a new console going. I strictly stick to first party exclusives on Nintendo consoles since the Wii era.
I've tried Fortnite game on Switch and really just wasn't satisfied. I mean I'm glad I have my account linked and can use it as a handheld option to try on the go. But I'd rather just stick to Fortnite on my Xbox.
The special edition versions of the switch were really cool though.
Also during the time it was coming out physically, there was people spring misleading information about companies like GameStop selling a free-to-play game🤦

Played on switch since launch and tbh it really only ran well till the end of season 4. I had to make the change to a series X cause I couldn’t take the bad performance much longer after so many years of issues.

I mainly play Fortnite on PC, but I do have it on switch, mostly for easier acess to buying those physical skin bundles they sell in stores and for the occasional month of Fortnite Crew, it's just easier to make some purchaces through console and this one is most convenient for me

Actually. Fortnite can still squeeze out More Performance On the Switch because The Switch Is Actually Downclocked. But Nintendo Won't allow Dev's To Use The Switch's Performance. Cause Nintendo Wants The Battery To Last Longer
This graphics changing and becoming more powerful is one of the main reasons that i switched to pc from nintendo switch but it always hold a special place in my heart. From season 5 with the weird ui to having the modern day unreal engine 5 not working as well on the switch i thank nintendo for allowing fortnite on the switch

I started my fortnite career chapter 1 season 4 on the switch, takes me back to a simpler time.
Having been playing fortnite exclusively on the switch since 2018 because it runs better than on my laptop, not including the early days on the switch, the start of chapter 2 and the UE5 change I feel were the biggest bumps with performance issues and frame rates
In terms of controls, I used to play with joycons with my hands crossed although I do now use a power a controller but I do feel the joycon's sticks and odd shape didn't make it much harder for me
I will say, I hope the "switch 2" has better performance since I don't think fornite will get easier to run over time

I loved playing fortnite on my switch so much as a kid to the point where I made it my main console with an off brand pro controller, today I would never use my switch over my xbox or pc for FORTNITE. even though I never use the double helix skin, it's still a great skin.
Ive been playing fortnite when it came out on iphone and i swapped to swich when it released. Ive been using my 2018 nintendo switch for fortnite wnd fortnite somehow still runs well

switch player here, i play with a pro controller with a monitor and its really fun. only complaint is the low fps, if im too close fighting someone (like right in there face) than most of the time the fps drops a lot and you cant fight back but if you keep a reasonable distance it should be fine. (note: if you try trading damage with an AR from medium range 80% of the time you will get lasered).

Every time I’m playing fortnite with my brother when I get into the loading first it still takes me longer to get into the actual lobby
I started fortnite on the switch day 1 of release and moved to Xbox around season 9 because I wanted to play stw and they also temporarily removed physics on skins
i play on the switch and have been since chapter 1 season 7, i never ran into any issues, sure the joysticks are a tad limited on the smoothness of aiming but im slowly getting better and better with it (i took like a 2 year long hiatus on the game when chapter 2 came out and got back to it a few months ago) the only time i had issues was a few days prior to when the OG map added the floating island, for some reason my game was VERY laggy for like 3 days straight, but its fixed now and I had no issues since

I remember playing Fortnite back in Chapter One Season 6, and let me tell you, it was WAY better than the current experience.
Back then it would technically remain at 30, now it can barely hit that threshold.
The shadows still look the same compared then to now, and the textures look MUCH worse.
I’ve been playing Fort on the Switch for about over a year now but ever since I got myself a ps5 a month ago I never looked back which is a shame because i have so many battle pass skins on that acc and couldn’t transfer it to psn
I honestly play on my switch a lot even today and I jump back and forth between my switch and my series X personally I don’t mind the graphical downgrade and even the drop to 30 fps and I love playing it on my switch in handheld (nowadays in my nitro deck love that accessory so shout out) even playing with some friends on pc and helping get some dubs so I’m an odd case I guess but I love it on my switch
I recently got back into Fortnite and I only have a switch to play it. There isn't much I have to complain about, but there are issues still there. Seeing other people's cosmetics would be nice instead of having a bunch of defaults running around. Sometimes my friend will go up to to a player and say they think the skin is cool, only for them to be met with my confusion, as I cannot see the skin.
Loading in is also an issue I've run into. I do wish I could load in on spawn island and run around with my friends before a match instead of me being stuck on the loading screen. I've also had a few times where I will load in on the battle bus well after the bus has begun flying and my teammates will already be landing on the ground while I'm just then getting into the match with the bus already having traveled halfway across the island.

its fine, some people like to really over react about the switch not rendering out every single blade of grass for some reason, but i can still dominate all the same on my home ground.
My first experience with Fortnite was on my Switch my bro loved Fortnite and hated my switch so he bought a ps4 loved the cross play so I created a second account so i can play with my bro
I wish there was a mod available to the switch that you can hand in to distributors and they'll upgrade the performance of the switch for you. Technology has progressed so far within the switch's life that it is probably doable and it needs a performance upgrade badly. I wouldn't mind if the switch got a little bulkier for cooling if needed. There is also static coolers that are very thin and are pretty effective, I'd say that's the best bet for cooling.

13:02 The Japanese version of PSO2 had a Link BotW outfit (including a female version) only obtainable on switch, Toro, Kuro (Toro and Kuro are Playstation Mascots) and Polytan (mascot of Dengeki, a Playstation magazine) NPC partner characters (Toro and Kuro were only available on PlayStation platforms which included PS3 and Vita which have since been dropped, PSO2 still has no cross-play for PS4 and PS5 BTW in spite of once being the biggest online RPG in Japan), the Sega Hard [ware] Girls in their chibi forms as little accessories that go on your head and shoulders (but I always used the acessory edit feature to have them float above me) as well as countless other video game and anime collab items. The global release also added a Gordon freeman costume, Pyro's mask, Heavy's minigun as a launcher weapon skin (should have been a rifle skin frankly as they're fully automatic while launchers work like rocket launchers) and IIRC, there was a Wheatly cosmetic too but I forget if there was or what it was. The Epic Games and Windows 10/Xbox releases had no cosmetics IIRC, though there were a couple of items you could get with Game Pass, including an Xbox controller.
In 2020 my PSN account got banned, and I had to play on switch now, even with the 30fps and all that, I used to win a lot of great pc players on handheld mode!
I made a Lego support for the switch, on where u could charge the switch while playing, the only thing why I didn't play on the dock, it's that due to the lower resolution you could hit more easly the shots
I play Fortnite on Nintendo Switch. The only thing is the graphics speed. Like your skin loads in 5 seconds after you appear on the island. And the FPS is lower than anywhere (like phone can do better), but it is still very comfortable to play
I played on only Switch until middle of chapter 2 when I got a ps4
And it honestly ran and looked surprisingly well until around Season 8
then it got way better again c2s1 until just getting worse again
I think UE5 was the final nail in the coffin

I have a Nintendo switch and I find that my Galaxy S10 plus from 2019 when I connect my switch controllers runs it way better than my switch ever did
when you talked about the performance being bad in 2018, i didnt understand what you meant because i remember it running just fine
I still play on switch and I get really annoyed because of how long it takes to load into a game, sometimes I don’t even get to join the game at all, usually I just go at the end of the bus right when it kicks me out but it usually take about two minutes to load into the match and most of my friends are already landing. I was actually surprised someone made a video about the current situation on the switch which is nice to see because this is a bit of an issue for me
the new og chapter did kinda fix the grass issue but it did not fix the loading issues,
again this probably has to do with how ue5 requires much more resources for the same rendering features which is quite sad
i compared screenshots from season 5 chapter 1 and now (i don’t have recordings) and while sure shadow distance is better, asset loading is also better, i do think they need to work on the load times better.
again i might end up buying the new switch 2 because apparently it’ll have an rtx2050m (rtx3050m but slightly worse) level of graphical performance with dlss support. again i felt like the switch hardware will be refreshed probably in 2024/2025 because mobile chip makers are coming up with next gen gpu’s on mobile (except tensor g4 i think)
snapdragon 8 gen 3, mediatek dimensity 9300, exynos 2400 (xclipse 940 rdna 3) and apple a17 pro, one concern is that they all skip efficiency so nintendo *might* actually increase the tdp to 10w or more on portable mode.
but again its not entirely nintendo’s fault, unreal engine 5 is generally much more demanding than 4 in terms of resources needed to enable certain rendering features
Was playing Fortnite on Nintendo switch since day one. I loved and preferred the switch port of the game for a while. Even though I don’t play Fortnite anymore, I still have great memories playing the game on switch.
I play a lot on the switch (before I got a better laptop). I go from my pc and on to the switch. I can tell Switch getting little more love now. I can tell it starting to run better. I know they are trying. I know it can't run certain maps in creative.
I had the Helix skin on my switch. It was my first time getting a switch, and it was a birthday present in October 2018 by my mom and grandmother. I didn't want the fortnite version, i didn't really care for fortnite, but they said it was the same price as a normal one and they didn't have any other ones, so my family just got it for me. I ended up using it on my account and played with my friends, it was one of the rarest skins and my friends thought it was dumb i had my own switch skin. I'm pretty sure i lost that skin, because my old switch broke like 2 years ago. And that epic account that i had it on, i don't use anymore.
It's just kind of nostalgic looking back at that point in my life. I remember just turning 14 years old, i was in junior high, life was simple and i was safe, no worries in sight for a long time.
So I have played on switch since I have started (Chapter 2 Season 5) and it has always been mid but I have never had the opportunity to play on a different platform!
I still think I am pretty good as im diamond 1 in build and plat 2 in no build
He didnt mention that for a whie after it launched, many people couldnt download the game on the eshop. I remember having to check the shop every day to see if fortnite had appeared, it took a good few weeks
as someone who plays on switch religiously I would say it feels better than ever, especially in ranked as I'm elite and I can still fight smoothly
In my friends creative map the admin room has the flood when he activated it my switch LAGS SO HARD after some seconds it will stop lagging but before my Xbox broke when he activated it it lags a little
buying a Nintendo switch is what basically got me into Fortnite because I was just looking for free games, and I think almost anyone with a switch can relate to this. I'm thankful for the joy Nintendo switch has gave us, and I think it's time for a refresh for Nintendo switch. When they release a new switch with better performance I'm buying it right off the bat lol
Yes I still play I think it looks better docked. Some of the loading characters still happens , ever since OG you do see the fault skin then the one you pick loads.
But yeah it looks better.

Tbh, the only reason I have Fortnite on my Switch is portability, and if the graphics are the price i need to pay, so be it ! It's super useful to be able to take it to a friend's house and each play on their own console easily or just to be able to lay down in bed and play instead of my usual PC setup which can get a bit uncomfy when it comes to extended play sessions
I played on switch since I started in 2018 but I switch to PlayStation 4 a year ago. Back then I liked it and had fun with it but now I just can’t play on switch anymore.
as I am a HUGE Splatoon enthusiast, and i mean reaaallly huge (10.000h across the entire Franchise), I never got another console. Just like that I made my first Fortnite experiences on the Switch all these years back and still play to this day, mainly together with friends. Most of my time I spend playing Chapter 1 with a short start into 2, but then having a long break only comming in Chapter 4. Around this time I also got friends interested in the game, also starting their journey on the switch - but it shouldn't last long, as the low frames, terrible graphic and overall poor performance bothered them, rightfully so. So they made the switch to PS5 and this is the Squad to this day.
Over the time playing - 3.500h as of now - I got used to the rather mediocre performance on the Switch, but what truly bothers me personally is the crossplay, where I know just platform wise I will be outperformed by like 92 players per lobby. I've gotten quite good, but when it comes down to fighting and I have to deal with massive framdrops when buildfighting and my counterpart does not face the same issues, while being on a similiar skill set, I just have no chance to keep up.

I am on play station and spawning on the battle bus is very common as well as seeing other skins as default so this isn’t just the switch that has problems
i don't remember any of these bugs my ps4 was outta comisson when fortnite first dropped so i was stuck with it on the switch
I remember during chapter 2 season 3 at one point I just couldn’t install the game because it was too massive and I wasn’t able to play again Until chapter 2 season 8 when the reduced the file size

I first played Fortnite because of the Switch. I first played Chapter 1 Season 7. It ran well besides the laggy internet
I don’t even attempt to play on the switch because I’ve just had a very poor experience with it. Skins never load and the frame rate is a choppy mess. Mind you this is when I tried to play when the OG update just released. Hell my brother has started experiencing these issues on his xbox one we’re skins aren’t load properly and everyone looks like a default.
Idk i boot up fortnite on my switch and i get lag often, if theres a bunch of players on screen the frames drop like crazy and the first minute landing the textures take forever to load in
Nice video on the history of Fortnite and the Switch! I recommend installing Fortnite to the internal storage as it runs a tiny bit better having it installed there. I'm assuming it has to do with assets being able to load a bit faster than from the SD card. It's not a miracle fix but it does help a tiny bit 🤏
Its hard to make a phone play fortnite well, and fortnite isnt made for a phone, and by extension a switch. Switches are low power, but thats ok, because the games that are meant to be run on it, run beautifully. Its not that switch cant keep up, its just that fortnite isnt compatible with the switches design. And yeah, im in denial.
I don’t have a pc or laptop. So I have to play on my switch. But it doesn’t prevent me from having fun like eating popcorn while I see someone waiting outside of a ffa spawn area to shotgun me
I’ve been playing Fortnite on switch since the games port, and after trying Xbox One, PS4 and PC, I feel left out! The switch version is very slow when loading (half the time I load in I’m already kicked out the bus) and the constant frame drops. It feels almost unplayable on switch
Yea I get that they want fidelity, but there really should be a performance mode on switch that works just like pc. Makes the game have mobile graphics. It could definitely get to a solid 60fps. If an iPhone can get 120fps a switch can too.
That being said I still play fortnite on my switch in bed pretty often.

Mobile devices have become far more capable and demanding than the Nintendo Switch. I get the argument, but it’s hard for me to agree when mobile can run games like Genshin Impact and Resident Evil flawlessly, while the Switch, well, will never get the chance lmao

i use my switch to play in bot lobbies on my pc and thats it , i really hope someday epic gives save the world more love and ports to the Switch tho

Actually, the Switch version used to run perfectly in 2020 (that's when I started) and it still holds up, just you know, a few options would be great, like turning off grass.
The Switch version was the only way to play when I first started. This completely changed years of my life, no joke!
to correct your statement on STW, the reason it never made it to the Switch is due to how intense STW is in general. The Switch already deals with performance hikes all the time and one issue with STW is that it utilizes so many effects to a higher degree than BR does (that even the PS4 version struggles to get 60FPS)
by effects, i’m referencing the storm, lightning, etc. Also STW sold 1 million copies in 2017 so it definitely wasn’t a failure. sure BR got more attention but STW also had millions in sales within the 1st month or so
3:42 Not related to the video but a week ago one of my RAM sticks (8gb) broke so I've been playing with just 8gb RAM and I swear to god this is EXACTLY what happens to me the first 2 or 3 games, textures and models bugs everywhere it's frustrating, I totally get the anger of Switch players when that happens
I remember when the pickaxes sounded wayyyy cleaner and that mic glitch when you go back to lobby sucks and the capes they also need to fix, but I hate how they pickaxes don’t sound as clean as they do on other consoles

Kind of reminds me of when Minecraft PE was retired for favor of bedrock on mobile; A lot more content is added, but at the cost of performance.
