Actually it is quite possible to use the Dragonator 3 times on that quest, and break its left tusk faster. I did it twice back in the day; still, it requieres a godlike timing.
I didn’t have internet connection so I had to solo everything in this game, and beyond the times it destroyed my ship at the beginning I don’t remember this fight being hard at all. So here’s what I noticed we did differently. The first thing I do is blast the cannons until I’m out of cannonballs. When it allows me to climb on his back I do some mining and destroy the cracks just like you did. I also use the Dragonslayer and gon just the same. A big difference is that when it shows it’s tusk I usually attack it to leave it weakened. Finally phase two starts and I just ballista the tusk till both are destroyed, and from there just attack it and use gon and dragon slayer as much as possible. As for my equipment, my preferred weapon is that sword that looks like a giant glip which has about 1200 damage and dragon bonus, however I believe when I first fought the Jhen I didn’t have it yet, but I can’t remember my previous weapons much. I also didn’t use sets or any booster seeds or anything, I had the black pants from the Egyptian dog armor and the top where that cat that shoots spikes, because they together look like normal clothes in my hunter. The results where that once I managed to keep it from destroying the ship, I always repelled him, never lost even once to the timer, and eventually I started killing it all together which must be when I got the 1200 sword I suppose. So, the likely reason you had such a hard time was because you didn’t use the cannons whereas I only stopped once I was out of cannon balls, and you also don’t seem to target the tusk which I’m not sure but maybe they lower his defense or something? I just wanted the materials but maybe it played a part on my victories I didn’t know about. Anyways, for me the first phase is cannonball, mining and damaging the tusk and back cracks as much as possible. Second phase is ballista and everything seems to have gone the same. So, use cannons next time.

Something to know is that you CAN use dragonator 3 times in this fight. IF you time it correctly in the early phase when he does his first side slam to the ship you can hit the horn with it. It was a speedrun strat used to break the first horn fast. This was shown by Kogath I think on his youtube channel for MHp3rd, but worked just as well for MHtri. But due to the situation of doing dps with weapon I am uncertain if it's worth to use the early dragonator or focus on melee on his back.
Even players who played 3U don't have a clue just how unforgiving vanilla tri was. Barroth was nearly unbeatable for 80% of the new community because after a charge, he could spin around almost instantly, and it was not uncommon for him to hit you ONCE and then you can just put the control down because you're going back to camp. He also required earplug to not be stunned by his roar, and contrary to ALL monsters up to this point, his head is armored and his tail is held way off the ground. This was the monster you needed to beat to go from 2 star village quest to 3 star village quest, and Barroth is a 4 star monster. You also topped out at green sharpness by this point. Barroth honestly showed you who was boss and how to hunt.
11:14 I feel this reaction right here summarized awesomely well thrilling it felt to win against Jhen solo the first time. The burst of adrenaline, coupled with the relief and satisfaction of knowing you put in the work and you locked in and it finally, *FINALLY* , paid off. I don't think I've ever experienced something that's motivated me and given me the pure happiness that winning this battle did, and I'm actually grateful for being able to feel that good. Unfortunately the real world isn't as rewarding for some of us. Oh yeah, the fight starts to get gradually easier (or you get better?) over time in such a way that you'll likely never feel the ultimate rush that your first win made you feel, but I feel that first win is something not many hunters will easily forget.
The biggest problem tri had was with enemy HP amounts. It was somewhat present in solo as well, but every major monster was (or at least FELT) SUPER tanky relative to earlier and later MH games. MH3U seemed to have solved it, but I can't speak for the NDS version or other 3rd gen japanese exclusive versions.

I never used GS or lance on Shen. The DPS is too slow. Either LS , DS or SA. Natural ESP to not bounce is great! either critc eye with sharpness+1 Or Atk L with sharpness+1 . Loot the spears and focus on 1 horn first. Use the bong to counter the side ram before it touches the ship. Put the 2 dragon bombs on the last horn. Massage the back. Let it shake you off. Grab the last 8 shots from the blue box. you should be able to get on top of him 4 times and even mine the blue stones on his back, (one mine site per mount, back breaks on 2 and 4). Land phase. Loot for spears to shoot at it since its out of bounds. Then focus on the legs once they are inside the arena. Use the ballista binder ammo when on land, to counter the belly flops. (After you used your second dragonator, and second bong). Break both legs. And when its upside-down, focus on the mouth. If you do it right, the ship integrity wouldn't even go below 50%. And you will kill it, all the time. Never repel!
My memory of doing this is a little hazy, but I definitely remember doing it. I used to do this in a leather set with a charm and maybe 1 loclac piece (I don't remember exactly). I would have spd gather, gathering, pro transporter and felyne bombardier. You try not to use too much ballista ammo before the land phase so that you have a lot to flinch with and a full inv when it starts. I usually used bowgun, no idea what setup. Break back with bombs, then use more bombs once it's broken and run. Before land phase you could cannon it when it was coming in to the ship instead of gong or binder and just take the hit to the ship, or if lucky, flinch it. Making sure you get the two dragonator hits before land phase is essential for saving ballista shots. Don't die because the little shits jumping on deck flinch you before a tusk swipe. That's pretty much it.
I hate to sound like I'm complaining about the newer monster hunter games but this kind of optimization, preparation, and relentless trying is the kind of gameplay that hooked me on the series in the first place. Bravo, and congratulations.
blast from the past. feels so nostalgic for me seeing new content for tri on youtube. i have so many memories with this game as my first monster hunter and one of my first online games, meeting new friends, playing and just hangin out and hunt
Mh tri was my introduction to the series i was too young to understand how quests worked and only got in the forest to kill enemies stopped playing and a year After picked the game tried the quest and begun to advance but my small child's brain didn't understood why upgrading Armor " the monsters are too big , I already have the leather armor so i'm good" I played bowgun because the safety and distance with the monster helped so much. M'y first road block was gobul in the water it was impossible to evade and almost oneshot from the attack where he sucks water in and jump for a full saturday day I played it to finally win by the end of it. Then everything was okay until rathalos who dealt so much damage to my frail body with leather armor. There were 2 problems 1) often being two shots and failing the quest 2) staying alive but by playing carefully wasted too much time and time's up. I tried an ungodly amount then lagiacrus was the same problem until I thought maybe a better armor would do the job and I looked through the armor and choosed the tankiest looking one Aka barroth armor made the full set and first tried the lagiacrus with my new armor my hype was real still not looking at the defense number only thinking "this looks sturdy imma make it" beat ceadus shortly after and never really played again until mh3U and now rise still one of my favorite franchise to this day and the game that introduced me to grinding and mastering pattern of opponents TL DR: didn't know the armor system played with base armor until lagiacrus. Amazing game 10/10
u made it the hardest way possible without making good use of the siege weapons. also there is a dmg threshold on the first phase, about 30%. so u know when u done enough dmg when first phase ends early. another thing is, u can jump onto jhen when he's about to be on the side of the ship but the ready markers arent there yet, it just has to be done perfectly on time. second phase u can bomb the sh*t out of him with the canon. most of the time i killed him, he was so far behind the invisible area wall, i couldnt loot him that way, lol.

@@flyann2 It bothers me that's even an issue, like guys....if you are gonna make us fight a giant behemoth, maybe give us enough ammo to fight said behemoth. I was able to kill High-Rank village Jhen only barely because I see repel as a failure for me personally, I hate running out of ammo so much. Also I found placing the anti-dragon bombs in his mouth to be pretty good as they are his biggest weak spot. I feel like we should have been given more of those.

I seem to remember using all the ballista ammo available to you and all the cannonballs being essential. Do you get buddies (shakalaka) on this quest? I don't remember
I remember it was better to bomb the head with the dragon bomb, you can place it right above the jhen's head instead of in the armor holes. but instead of buffing attack, I remember I went with speed gather and gathering +. with felyne food skill(Bombardier) that buff explosive, it's possible to slay him without doing all those buffing, In the 2nd phase once he gets into the range of the cannon, I spam bind and just bomb the hell out of him with the cannon.
I remember doing this, it was so difficult. but I had high level gear. I believe you can also charge into his hands/mouth infinitely. seems to stack affinity and damage. easily sleep him.
So this is much difficult than P3rd, since there Jhen Moran is further away at the second phase, and I can bring cat friends to shoot cannons and ballista for me
Ah the good old days when online didnt scale for 1 player. I soloed 3U and never had this problem. But either I was using high rank gear from the village or they changed tthe health pool on this quest between Tri and 3u. Congrats.
on one hand, games should always have a backup system for P2P connections so anyone can connect with anyone so long as they have an internet connection. on the other hand, this might not have ever happened if that was a thing for this game. tough call.
I never played tri, but I think they're the same with mhp3rd, just like what the others were saying you can break both of the tusks early game with cannons and ballista, break skin on both forearms before the final phase. I suggest you use dual sword, most op weapon against jhen mohran, useless spear in my opinion, have shield but can't be used, bombs can wait till final phase, bring every bomb possible, bounce all of them, maybe bring some materials for combining, always use gong if possible, since it will give you a good amount of time to deal dmg. Hope you see this HHAHA
I've played Tri only a few hours (I don't like the Wii controls), but in MHP3rd you also need to defeat a Jhen Mohran to get to High Rank, it is pretty difficult, specially in comparison to the Village Jhen Mohran. Still, since I think MHP3rd is easier than other MH games, probably the MHTri Jhen Mohran is harder.
funny how in mhp3rd the village jhen hunt was so easy that i went in with leather armor to increase mining and carving speed then farmed him untill i had all of his weapons and armor sets. literaly the easiest hunt in the game.
It's funny, for me, this fight never was ULTRA hard to solo. Also, my internet was extremely laggy so i couldn't connect to MH3G online, and the solo G rank Jhen there is so obnoxious, but I think it's because it was an event quest if i recall correctly because I don't remember purple Jhen to be that bad.
I'm glad this is getting attention lol. I remember spending months on this fucker as a kid. I remember beating him him with excessive use of ballistas, cannons and a GS cuz that's all I would use as a kid lol.
Similar thing happened to me in mh4u with a dhen morhan in high rank guild if I remember correctly, even with a fully upgraded diablos gs and the baibai kaiser armor set, I couldn't repell the damn thing and gave up after 5 tries
is that any diffrent from monhun 3 rd portable jihn mohran vilage quest? i fought him so many time and still can kill it with 30 minute quest has given time
I wonder how much this compares to MHG Dual black diablos in G rank, the stamina drains twice as fast compared to fu and Diablos has twice as much hp, having 16k aprox, meaning they have as much hp as a lao shang lung (32k) and iirc more than fatalis (28k)
I can assure you the G rank version is incredibly hard to do solo in MH3G. I had to do that and it literally had me in tears of frustration. It was only when I discovered that 2 hits with GS in the mouth of the downed Jhen in final phase was the make or break. I will never attempt it again. It was so hard. So I feel you!
Uuuuuuuuhhhhh......... Kelbi deershot + Awaken, blast damage all the way to the end, you can easily defeat It alone. That doesn't look anything hard In comparison to this video tbh, In which the guy was In constant death match.
@@emishimaru-sama6449 each time blast deals damage the monster gradually gains immunity to it, so kelbi bow is not suitable for those with high HP, such as Jhen, Dire Miralis, Jojo Brachy, etc... But regardless of existence of blast type weapons it is true that beating Jhen from MH3 is more of a challenge than doing the same to the one from MH3G/U.

If not wrong, Kelbi's first charge's shot was spread level 3, with like 6 bullets at once, and whenever It landed slime with It, It was something like 350 slime each bullets (350 x 6 = 2100 slime Inflicted ), so It was quite broken.
6:47 a japanese strategy is to lay a felvine bomb, use an item to buff up, the bomb explodes shortening the animation (felvine bombs don't do damage), and now you're buffed up with a pink mist on you than lasts 3 minutes (same amount of time as the buff). When the mist expires, so does the buff.
This whole thing plays out like one of those complicated heist movies, where there's like 10 people all with specialties to get the job done. Except this time it's just one dude.

I seem to remember using all the ballista ammo available to you and all the cannonballs being essential. Do you get buddies (shakalaka) on this quest? I don't remember
In MHP3 you can go into his mouth when he topples and attack the inside for huge damage (this hitzone is super soft), idk if MH3 has this
I remember it was better to bomb the head with the dragon bomb, you can place it right above the jhen's head instead of in the armor holes. but instead of buffing attack, I remember I went with speed gather and gathering +. with felyne food skill(Bombardier) that buff explosive, it's possible to slay him without doing all those buffing, In the 2nd phase once he gets into the range of the cannon, I spam bind and just bomb the hell out of him with the cannon.

So this is much difficult than P3rd, since there Jhen Moran is further away at the second phase, and I can bring cat friends to shoot cannons and ballista for me

Ah the good old days when online didnt scale for 1 player. I soloed 3U and never had this problem. But either I was using high rank gear from the village or they changed tthe health pool on this quest between Tri and 3u. Congrats.
on one hand, games should always have a backup system for P2P connections so anyone can connect with anyone so long as they have an internet connection. on the other hand, this might not have ever happened if that was a thing for this game. tough call.

G rank Double Black Diablos was the most difficult quest I had to solo in all of the games
I did not know this was doable solo without using the cannons

I never played tri, but I think they're the same with mhp3rd, just like what the others were saying you can break both of the tusks early game with cannons and ballista, break skin on both forearms before the final phase. I suggest you use dual sword, most op weapon against jhen mohran, useless spear in my opinion, have shield but can't be used, bombs can wait till final phase, bring every bomb possible, bounce all of them, maybe bring some materials for combining, always use gong if possible, since it will give you a good amount of time to deal dmg. Hope you see this HHAHA
I had the same experience trying to kill Extreme Behemoth solo on MHW. Even with master rank gear i could never finish the fight solo.
I've played Tri only a few hours (I don't like the Wii controls), but in MHP3rd you also need to defeat a Jhen Mohran to get to High Rank, it is pretty difficult, specially in comparison to the Village Jhen Mohran.
Still, since I think MHP3rd is easier than other MH games, probably the MHTri Jhen Mohran is harder.
funny how in mhp3rd the village jhen hunt was so easy that i went in with leather armor to increase mining and carving speed then farmed him untill i had all of his weapons and armor sets.
literaly the easiest hunt in the game.

It's funny, for me, this fight never was ULTRA hard to solo. Also, my internet was extremely laggy so i couldn't connect to MH3G online, and the solo G rank Jhen there is so obnoxious, but I think it's because it was an event quest if i recall correctly because I don't remember purple Jhen to be that bad.
hardest fight for me has to be alta and fatalis in MHW, the irony is I've killed both in the past(well, crimson fatalis anyway)
For me MHFU was the hardest because when I was a ckid I just mashed all the buttons.

Similar thing happened to me in mh4u with a dhen morhan in high rank guild if I remember correctly, even with a fully upgraded diablos gs and the baibai kaiser armor set, I couldn't repell the damn thing and gave up after 5 tries

I wonder how much this compares to MHG Dual black diablos in G rank, the stamina drains twice as fast compared to fu and Diablos has twice as much hp, having 16k aprox, meaning they have as much hp as a lao shang lung (32k) and iirc more than fatalis (28k)

I can assure you the G rank version is incredibly hard to do solo in MH3G. I had to do that and it literally had me in tears of frustration. It was only when I discovered that 2 hits with GS in the mouth of the downed Jhen in final phase was the make or break. I will never attempt it again. It was so hard. So I feel you!
Idk if you ever want to go back and try it but Peirce hbg makes it pretty reasonable

@@emishimaru-sama6449 each time blast deals damage the monster gradually gains immunity to it, so kelbi bow is not suitable for those with high HP, such as Jhen, Dire Miralis, Jojo Brachy, etc...
But regardless of existence of blast type weapons it is true that beating Jhen from MH3 is more of a challenge than doing the same to the one from MH3G/U.

If not wrong, Kelbi's first charge's shot was spread level 3, with like 6 bullets at once, and whenever It landed slime with It, It was something like 350 slime each bullets (350 x 6 = 2100 slime Inflicted ), so It was quite broken.
6:47 a japanese strategy is to lay a felvine bomb, use an item to buff up, the bomb explodes shortening the animation (felvine bombs don't do damage), and now you're buffed up with a pink mist on you than lasts 3 minutes (same amount of time as the buff).
When the mist expires, so does the buff.

This is a classic speedrunning tactic, some even use it to switch zones after buffing or dodging.
