I graduated high school in 1970 and the music of the late 60’s - early 70’s was the best. To bad everyone can’t experience how great life was being young during that time.
@@ATalkingBadger Hey don't sad at all that you were born in '95. You apparently have great taste in music, and that transcends time in my humble opinion : )
Who ever recommended this song was spot on. This song always makes me feel some kind of way. The 70's was like no other era. So glad I got to experience it.
One of my all time favorite ballads! When I was young, we used to roller skate every weekend. They had a moonlight skate where you could skate with a boy while holding hands. They would dim the lights and fire up the disco ball. Skated to this more times than I can count! Such great memories!
OMG Kathy!!! I remember those days just as you described. Holding hands while skating with the lights dimmed and the disco ball shimmering. Seems like those were such simpler times. Brings back a flood of memories for me right now. I wonder if there are any skating rinks still around these days? Anyways great comment!!
I don't know why I love seeing people younger than me enjoying and understanding the quality ot music from the past. I like some of the music now, but nothing compares to the 70s and 80s music. Thanks for taking the time and sharing your enthusiasm with us. 😁😁🎸🎤🤗
Came out in April of 1979 and topped the charts hitting #1. ... "Sad Eyes" is one of just a few non-disco, or disco-influenced, songs to top the 1979 pop charts.
Oh wow! This was a 'blast from the past.' LOVED this song when I was in high school. Was quite a while before I actually heard the words, and realized he was breaking up with 'sad eyes' cause his woman was coming back, and 'sad eyes' was gonna have to go. LOL This is STILL great music! And I think the music of the 70's was the best. So many fabulous artists, and the style of music was so different back then. There were still real, honest to goodness romantic songs that were being written. You just don't hear that anymore. Great reaction, Jay! I'm so glad you don't just listen to the music, but that you FEEL the music, as well.
OMG! Who is giving these recommendations to you? Almost feels like the're pulled from my playlist. Can you please listen to My Eyes Adored You by Frankie Valli and I Go Crazy by Paul Davis?. I just feel blessed that I came into my own when the music was at its best. Who ever is asking Jay for these, Thank you and Thank you Jay for reacting to them. Everyone stay safe.
As a baby boomer on the younger end of the generation, we were so lucky to live thru all this good music, from the Beatles, and Elvis and Motown, to Foreigner and Journey to Disco etc. we really need to clean up our music today and take some advice from all the old records and bands on how to make music that every one likes.. once again.
I was born in 1950. 60's to the 80's. So many groups and soloists and so many different styles. Now it's just noise. The kids don't know what they're missing.

Thank you for listening to my request from yesterday on your Ambrosia reaction video, your reaction and comments were on point! Just so you know, that was actually Robert John himself hitting those high notes at the end with his beautiful falsetto...no other voices were needed! I was introduced to this song as a child listening to my parents' vinyl collection. Even as a kid I would get goosebumps hearing the emotion in Robert's voice. I also used to sing this in karaoke except I used whistle notes in place of the really high falsetto notes he sang lol. If you'd like to hear more songs that were sung with pure emotion check out James Ingram, such as Just Once and I Don't Have The Heart. Thank you again for trusting your subscribers to show you great music from every era!
Love this song!!! It was an instant classic to me. I remember slow dancing to this song at school dances when it came out. Brings back some great memories.
This song is on my playlist.... on my patio playlist where I just sit and listen. I couldn't put it on my walking list cause it is just too sad. Thanks for your reaction, Jay.... loved it. Take care and be well. Peace.
Jayvee. I knew you'd love this song, I easily remember when this song came out - 1979. I was 40 years old and just had retired from the USAF two years prior. WE HAD THE MUSIC EVER IN THE 70s! EVER!! I don't care if I'm 53... I was a kid listening to the majority of songs you're reacting to... and I wouldn't trade it to be young again....EVER! Soon, I'll be gone like all our bro's and sisters of the past. Thank GOD I was a kid listening to the 70s music - this, Roberta Flack, Firefall, Paul Mc Cartney, Kansas etc etc etc and so on! Scout Finch so sorry for your loss 😢it’s weird how music has that effect on us. My baby sister was murdered & I too hear certain songs that make me feel that way.
Watching an episode of Young Sheldon right now and this song happens to be playing in the ep. I had a flashback of my Mom and I shopping in one of our local department stores when I was around 11 or 12 and I just had to have this new K-tel record and begged her to buy it for me. This song was one of the songs on it and I played it till I wore that album out! Today also happens to be the two-year anniversary of her passing and have been thinking about her so much lately. Would like to think this is one of her signs to let me know she's around. And it's still a fantastic song. 😊
Jayvee, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS..YOU've got the nicest smile and such warm sparkly eyes. .It's awesome seeing your reactions to music I grew up with. I'm 58 yr old Canadian woman and these songs feel like it was only last year when they were on the radio. Brings me back. .they're still great songs today! So happy that you can hear what we heard back then!
I had this song on the first compilation album I ever bought with my own money. The kind you order from the tv commercials. I was 9. I listened to it over and over and over. Learned every nuance of it. Beautiful song. First thing I ever remember actually owning for my own. I was the youngest of 10, so I treasured it with my whole heart.
This Song holds the distinction of taking the Longest Time to go to Number One which was 18 Weeks. He also did a cover of "Hey There Lonely Girl" but he didn't go far. He also did American Bandstand.
I was a young kid in the 70s but even in my teens in the 80s (which were also great), I liked the 70s music better. That decade was the Golden Era of musical talent.
Robert John sang the background vocals also. Listen to " If you don't want my love", where he really bangs out the falsetto. He did some covers of other songs but really never got the material he deserved to be really great. Highly underrated performer.
Had the same experience when I first listened to this mid 70s. A unique great voice. I still love this song. I believe he had a few other good songs. Agree, very sad but such beautiful song.

There was no girl singing backup. All the singing was by Robert John, who, as part of a group called The Tokens, sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Maybe you would like "Into the Night" by Benny Mardones, or "After the Love is Gone" by Earth Wind and Fire...
Whoever disliked this must be a fan of autotuned singers or songs that repeat the same thing over and over. Maybe they need to put down the mumble rap and open their ears to real music! I feel sorry for those who can't appreciate somebody that genuinely enjoys hearing stuff that isn't on the radio today. Not saying there aren't a few good tunes here and there on the charts now, but they're few and far between, unlike music from older generations where people were putting out great music consistently. I don't see the problem with having an eclectic taste in music, not to mention sometimes you don't find something you truly like until you step out of your comfort zone! I have to admit my favorite music comes from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, but I'm not afraid to explore other genres like @JayveeTV is doing here. Good music is good music plain and simple!
