I’m the schmuck who payed $416 at the same dealership as Matt ($28 of that tax, $281 in labor!!). I now am feeling totally ripped off. I’m no mechanic at all but do my own oil change and valve adjustments etc on my TW200. But I thought for this my first brand new hi tech bike, I’ll let the dealership do all the inspections… (they may do?) software etc… I do not accredit this to Triumph, I totally think its the dealer. Im trying to also get a warranty piece of work done they want me to pay for but that is another story. I’m with Matt, I have absolutely loved the bike, it’s got pick up! But.. just be aware, I feel it’s the new model blues, some will be fine and some will have issues, add that with parts not available from India and cheaper quality parts on it. I love that it was cheap for what it is.. but my credit card is starting to rack up at the dealer making it not cheap. Jury still out :)
Well ... Triumph is not a cheap brand for sure. And I would not feel ripped off if you really felt helped and serviced at the dealership. The people there have also to live from something ... But if you don't feel good afterwards and you maybe have another dealer to go to ... give it a try. Good work can cost a dollar more, but it has to be good work in the first place.
Street T 765. Spanner (service) light on, 12k, did the service myself all original Triumph parts, took it to dealer and they won’t turn it off unless they’ve done the service themselves 😮 This is despite having bought all the (expensive) parts and tools for the service from them. I just ignore the spanner now😂 My Yam Tracer mt09, I can reset light myself.
Holy moly! 400 us dollars for the 1st service? Insane lol! Here in India its just 2000 INR or 24 dollars for the 1st service which includes oil change, washing the bike along with chain cleaning and lubing.
Sadly a common occurrence ad US dealerships. Worse still is that they’re also well known for very sloppy workmanship. It pays to learn to do all your own work.
I agree, great bike. I just changed the front sprocket from the 14 tooth to a 15 tooth as most UA-camrs recommend. I did the work myself, found the correct sprocket on Amazon (get the one with the rubber strip around the circumference front and back of the sprocket). It shipped from the Netherlands but got here in a surprisingly short time. Ridge Roamer and Bankrupt Pensioner YT channels have good videos on this. Haven't had time to test performance on the highway but it extends 1st and 2nd gears on my dirt road. Reported to drop the RPMs about 300 to 500.
I never let anyone work on my bikes, including my new 400X. Did the oil change myself. Bought two filters and oil -about $45. One thing I haven’t much comment on is the amazing engine breaking it has.
Sweet!! Thanks Ben! This bike has been a blast. If you getting it just for the street though I would recommend the Speed 400. Better wheels and shorter seat height. However, this bike is a great time on the road too and the suspension is great right out the gate.
@@MOBStreet83 Thanks man! I think both of these bikes look really good and seem to be great values. I appreciate the advice and tips you are putting out.
Hi from London. I don’t own one of these (yet), but it’s top of my short list, maybe look for a nice bargain used one in the winter. For some nice accessories, have a look at the K-Speed site, they are in Thailand. I don’t know how much the postage to USA is, or how long the wait… but they do a tail tidy for about $50 and a couple of different cool looking straight through exhausts for less than $400 ! Happy Trails!
Thinking strongly about getting one of these. As long as the dealer in New Orleans doesnt try and tack on a $1000 like most dealers around here do. I think Im in.
Only had the bike for just over a week and clocking up the mileage. When I bought the bike the dealer said that there would be no labour charges for the first service so total cost will be £92. So parts costing more or less same as USA. I'm enjoying the bike, handles well
I wish our dealer would do that! I really like the way the bike handles right out of the box. It has been great and I am looking forward to some sight seeing rides with it. Thanks for watching!
I have a Tiger 1200 that I had the same issue with. I was able to download an app to my phone and use a standard Bluetooth OBDII sensor to connect to the bike and reset the service light for oil changes and things like that. The App was about $70 and the OBDII was about $13.00. You have to register your V.I.N. on the app and I think it's good for up to 3 VINs. The App is now on my old phone that use specifically just for that, but if you're interested I could reply back with the name (assuming it's still available).
@@MOBStreet83 Hey, I'm sure I replied to this but not sure if it was removed on purpose. I don't want to put the App Name back on in case you removed it for a reason. But let me know if it never posted and I'll resend it.
BMW LED turn signals make yours sound like a bargain! 💰💰💰💰💰 I’m loving this bike, I’ve been riding the street one around the last week, the Scrambler is where it’s at!😎👍👍
I love all your videos and basically I did buy my 2023 TW 200 because of your recommendations. I love the TW but wish it had a little more power to keep up with traffic. So I am stoked about what you have to say about the Scrambler 400 X. Now my legs are kind on the shorter side. How do you handle the higher bike in comparison to the TW? I am looking forward on additional videos. Keep up the good work.
Awesome!! I hope you like the TW, I love mine! So, the Scrambler I am a bit high-centered, but it isn't bad on the road. Trails I might not be as confident.
I'm loving my Scram but your mates service cost was nuts. I paid $300 in Australian money for dealer logbook service. That's I think about 150 merican monies
I bought this bike this spring, my Triumph dealer was supposed to see that I got $250 worth of gear which never happened. I am doing all my service work myself. Ì don't care how many service lights are on from now on.
I installed the Evotech tail tidy on my 400x. It's just ok. I don't like how exposed to the elements it leaves all the wiring. It's strange, because Evotech's tail tidy for my Tiger Sport 600 is excellent, plug-and-play, and completely encloses the wiring. Looks like Brogue Motorcycles has a tail tidy that might be better quality, but it's hard to see from just the photos. I'll probably be ordering that one if my turn signals start failing. Shame, because I immediately purchased from Evotech because it was such a great experience on my 600, so I was surprised the 400 tail tidy wasn't up to the same quality level.
I was torn between this and the Suzuki V Strom 250sx, I eventually got the V Strom, first service at 1000kms was free (oil and filter change) I bought a service kit for it for the next service at Suzuki, I paid $50 😂 for a 250 this thing kicks real good, it almost drags my 08' Klr650, after seeing your video I'm glad I skipped the Triumph
My 1st service was covered under the warranty. Only paid for the oil change which I’ll do myself next time. Great videos and I look forward to more 400X content.
Hoping the aftermarket picks up soon for these bikes and maybe with the 2025s they'll fix some of the issues I keep hearing about (randomly shutting off, etc). Still have my eyes on picking one of these up just to have a small bike to ride fast for fun and do some light offroading but some of the posts/videos of issues have had me hesitant and hearing rumors of an updated DRZ400 from Suzuki and stuff so I might just wait till EICMA and all these announcements are done to solidify my choice.
Dude, my new RE Shotgun 300 mile break-in service was $800!!!!!! That's what Young Power Sports, where i bought it, charges for it. That's mostly labor costs for doing valve work. Friggin' ridiculous. They do the same thing every 3k miles. Doing it myself next time.
Love RE bikes. But valve clearance check every 5.000 km. Are they kidding? Check service intervals of that bike outside the US because you might be suprised. Some works are simply a tax that you pay to maintain the warranty.
Holy moly! You guys pay 400-800 for a service, I literally pay 45-50 usd for servicing my motorcycle, and not to forget the first 3-4 services are FOC + consumables(oil and filter) in India
I'm close to 600 miles on my 400x and also think the $416 service cost is a rip-off. I love the bike, but I'm used to inexpensive self-service maintenance costs for Hondas and Yamahas.
@@logicalindian_777 Cost of living in India is different than in Europe or the US so it is the average income. Having said this, 800€ for a break in service is outrageous even for USA standards.

$400.00 for a 600 mile service is ridiculous. Parts for the Triumph are too expensive. Back in 1978 I bought a Triumph TR-7 and it was fun to drive but the workmanship of the build was questionable. Saying that, I wished I still had that car.
One question and one point... What is included in the 1st service that is would cost $416?! Basically an oil ad filter change, a quick tug of the chain, a once over to make sure nothing is falling off... No thanks. I trust myself MUCH more than any dealer tech. And I hope someone comes up with the proper sequence to turn off the service light! Hi Mat there is a company here in the UK which make a high quality tail tidy for the 400 bikes. They are TEC a family run business. Drop them an email and ask if they will ship to you. All the best.
Hey Neil!! I really appreciate it and I will check them out. Thanks for the insight!
Geeze, how many idiot lights are on that speedo⁉
um........there are a lot of them!
the dealer required for service reset is a deal breaker---ill never buy a triumph
There are some products that I am starting to see that allow you to connect to the bike.....I haven't used them yet.
Gold forks are hideous.
Well, that's what they come with so I just gotta deal with it for now.
Brogue motorcycles makes a kit for that.
I'll check it out!
