No problems with the low gearing. 15 tooth in front and 41 at the rear 😁. Heated grips and a small original screen. Top box and one side bag (original) and the bike is ready to go 😁. I also have a BMW K1200LT ( 400 kg) and I love them both. But for the most part I drive the Triumph. Talking about the ccm and horsepower I remember in the late 70th and early in the 80th I and mine wife went on a Honda CB 550 Supersport from Norway to Bosnia and all countries in Europe. We did that several years. That bike had 50 horsepower and was heavy. This small Triumph is much faster and has more comfort. So when everyone is talking about that either the power or the comfort (or both) are not enough I think it’s because either we are to lazy/to old and not in shape/ or spoiled 😁. In the old days driving a motorcycle was something special and we could manage some pain in the ass and back😂. That’s some of the sjarm 😁😁. Ride safe

I agree. 40 hp is plenty. This bike absolutely rips. People are idiots. They believe these UA-cam vloggers when they say it's underpowered. It's not. One idiot said they wish it had a meteor 350 engine in it. I called him out on how stupid that comment was. I don't think he liked that.

@@regregor I found the bike very comfortable and quietly ,enjoy riding a smaller bike faster as well as a fast bike slowly . Most of the bikes we ride today you would be lucky to be able to ride it at anything like its potential on the road, for long ..
I did find the gearing on this bike restricting and most 400/450 bikes offer more outright speed as a result . If people are happy with that , great . Personally I would change the front sprocket . I would prefer the power later .

    • @michaelmam

@@jimgordon3468 It is under geared . First is , in my opinion , wasted unless you are planning on rock climbing in the local quarry .
I agree with you on the 350 meteor engine though . The Truimph engine has more power and torque .

@@michaelmam remember that the biggest market for this bike is India. That’s why it’s geared so low and the brake pads are mushy/ don’t take so much. But after changing the sprockets and changing the front pads the bike is great. I have had bikes since the late 70th and think I have some experience after all these years 😁😁

Triumph made the perfect little bike. I am 6ft 3 inches tall and I weigh 225lbs. This bike absolutely rips. Zero power issues at all. I added a tall custom windshield, auxiliary lights and a 15 tooth sproket. I have over 3000 miles on it in 45 days. Great great bike.

    Hello Michael, Fred in Virginia.
As the owner of two 2012's; Bonneville and Thruxton plus a 2020 Speed Twin 1200 and now age 74 I considered the Speed 400 until joining the 400X/Speed 400 forum and seeing multiple instances of stalling, lights coming on in the ugly TFT for no reason and excessive noise in the valve train caused by soft cam lobes with a few buyers waiting to have complete engines replaced under warranty 😢
After decades of buying many new bikes and never having a single warranty claim there is NO way I would gamble on any of the newer Triumphs; am selling my ST1200 because of its nit-picky antics. The dealers have massive discounts of well over 20 percent which puts the Speed 400 in the mid $3,000 range for a new 2024 "with warranty" that over 20 percent of buyers are taking advantage of. Thanks for yet another excellent review and ride video.

@@frederickwoods5943 Always good to hear from you Fred .
Certainly haven’t heard of wide-scale problems with the bikes here🤔
New bike sales are slow and there are some bargains to be had but hadn’t noticed any particularly low price offers on the small triumphs . More on the larger cc , and high priced luxury bikes .. BMW , Ducati etc ..

I’ve got about 3500 mi on mine with none of the problems you noted. Some riders were having those issues early on but I think most of those issues have been addressed at this point. I’m also in Virginia and find this to be a great bike for the many dirt and gravel roads you can find in VA and very good on the many two lane country roads.

I bought the Scrambler 400X two weeks ago and like you found the gearing short but it doesn't present any problems. I found the seat higher than I'm used used to but can flat foot it and at traffic lights can stand proud of the bike although swinging the leg over doesn't go smoothly. Having the New Forest to the east and the Purbeck Hills to the west the bike handles itself well on roads which can turn into tracks. Really the only problem I have had is with the display which fogged up in the heavy rain. Triumph say that they would deal with that when I take it in for its 1st service in 2 weeks time. I found your review valuable
