I like the looks of it better than the Outback. It just seems more balanced. The Outback looks like what it is - a lifted station wagon with lots of cladding. The Ascent looks like an SUV.
Eyesight safety system is the best. All wheel drive is superior. Never had any issues with cvt on my Outback. Just drove well. I think the ascent is a great family hauler but styling is rather bland imo.
Finally took an Ascent out last weekend for a test drive and it felt like we were floating down the road. We also test drove Forester Touring, Highlander, Rav4, Passport and CR-V. All felt great and biggest disappointment was the Rav4. It was such a rough ride that’s why I’m surprised it’s the top selling SUV in its class. Suspension felt like it came off a 10,000 lb truck or maybe they had the tire pressure set at 60 psi. We haven’t picked which one to buy but I think we’ve narrowed it down to 3.
The window switch is crap. Same design on my 2021 Forester. Two of mine broke within the first few months. Subaru choose form over function with the interior. One window is already broken and won't go down. Thank God the car is mechanically in great shape with no issues at 60,000mi.
@@stevedott715 Well, I am at 90,000mi now and everything that has that chrome trim on the interior is breaking. Multiple switches and vents. Battery is not outputting many cca, so starting is a little slower than normal. It has been a great car so far.
Does the Ascent have the feature that makes it turn off/on every time you stop at a red-light or stop sign? If so, I’ll keep what I drive until the wheels falloff.
@@stevedott715 I actually bought the wife an Ascent Dec 16. We had test driven a few and it’s the only Subaru model they haven’t added the goofy feature to. The wife loves the Ascent, it feels like you’re floating down the road. It’s hard to beat all the great safety features.
Great walkthrough. Thank you. I was curious on the rear seats. I wish I had the money for the ascent. However, I paid 28,000 for my 2021 Forester. Huge price gap.
Hey I went in yesterday to see trade in value for my 2018 crostrek and I was blown away with what they offered me it took a huge chunk out of how much the ascent would cost. It be worth a try if your really wanting an ascent
Subaru dealer gave me a $28,000 trade-in on my 19 36,000 mile Forester towards my Ascent. I'd paid like $31,000 for it 3 years prior. I miss the Forrester's 34 miles per gallon highway but day to day mpg is nearly the same at like 24.
@@brz757 That doesn't seem right. I paid $28,000 (before taxes) for my 2019 Forester base model with zero miles. Why would they give you all of your money back for a car that should be worth less as it ages.
@@brz757 You had me thinking. Three months ago, in October, I went to the dealer to see about getting an ascent. My car is valued at $15,000. My loan was at $20,000. I'm belly up. They said if I break even on the loan, and put $3,000, I would be able to get a loan on an ascent. I could get a longer term loan and possibly have slightly lower payments, which would be helpful. However, I would still have to come up with $8,000. Not going to happen when I can't afford my bills already. Bidenflation has me skipping meals.
With the outrageous cost of used vehicles purchasing a new Subaru is good alternative for families. My only concern is too much driver nannies you cannot easily turn off or override.
My wife used to have a Subaru (2018 Forester Turbo). It was the last year of the Turbo Forester. It was fast but non-luxurious. My wife kept it for 4-years then traded it in on a 2022 Lexus NX 350h, back in April. She put 60K miles on it. I never liked that car.
It’s the literally the most quiet car I’ve ever driven. It’s dead quiet inside. I got 12K miles on mine, it’s sweet for long trips on the highway at 70+MPH
Subaru doesnt make any, they make horizontally opposed engines, all of them. But, yes a six cyl would be good, but i think theyve phased them out in favor of just turbo 4s.
Hi Ben, question is since first accent came out it has cvt problems just like forester. I have question that did they fix cvt issues or still same crap of subaru cvt issue strolls in 2023? what is the cvt warranty?
I won't touch it with a ten foot pole until the get rid of the Eyesight system. It does NOT work in bad weather. No foward collision warning in heavy rain or snow. It shuts off with no warning when passing a truck in the rain (if you were on cruise control .. you slow down and stay in the truck's blind spot). It should be UNACCEPTABLE until a Lidar/Radar safety system is installed.
I had the previous version on my 2020 forester and now on a 2024 ascent. I’ve only had it disable in the forester a few times. Maybe a dozen and it was honestly when there was a ton of snow, or dirt on the windshield so I could understand when it could t see.
Great vehicle.
That engine is amazing in the Outback. Real sleeper.

I'm really impressed by this Suv, this might be in the same league as the Toyota Highlander.
Well dang, I know what I'm saving up for lol looks great 👍 (minus that leg room in the back row but we can't have it all I suppose)

Dam I've been over looking this because of the sti models lol this looks way more convenient than a forester

Yeah but you turn it off once and it’s off forever
Ascent does not have the start stop!

this feels like when the cx9 first came out
Love my 22 ascent. Glad it doesn't have that stupid touchscreen HVAC control.
Needs hybrid powertrain.

It has no moonroof so I'm looking at the onyx edition
“If it’s got adaptive cruise and steering assist it for sure has blind spot monitoring” …. Toyota: 👀
LOL
Amazing Subaru !!
That's dispointing that the rear seats are not power
Needs an all digital dash.
Ben, whats a fair price on the ascent? Onyx edition?

not V6 ???🤨🙄☹
Would be a flat six with Subaru, but still no

Turbo 2.4 would put majority v6 to shame
Subaru does flat designed 4-stroke piston engines, not v designs.

Good but CVT
Maybe practical but ugly exterior design
