I recently achieved this style, with ZERO experience braiding using this video step by step. Total cost was about $25 dollars (braiding hair, comb, small Jam jar and rubber band pack) and total labor time was about 4.5 hours. 17 braids total for me, wore these with and without beads. Excellent video. Thank you! #newsubsciber 💯
I love her so much. @thechicnatural Been following for YEARSSSSSSSSS since I had UA-cam i think lolol and before that. I don't questin anything she gives out. Love her content. ❤ Doing this style Wednesday for Aruba trip!!!
I’m about to attempt this. Y’all please pray for me 😩. I’ll come back with an update Update: I’m done and it came out wonderfully. I can’t believe I actually did this by myself for the very first time!!! It took me 6 1/2 hours with 2 short breaks in between.
Great info sharing u took breaks. Idk why but I was getting overwhelmed thinkin bout doin thus until u mentioned breaks😅. Of course! And THANK YOU for sharing how it went! Gonna try!
Same girl! I took way more than 2 breaks but was also proud of myself that I did it and it looked so professional. The ancestors were with me for sure! Also took nearly the whole day too but I still did it, took me about 7 hours. Now folks I know want me to braid they hair.
I did my daughter’s hair last night and she is so happy with her look. I made the braids a little thinner to better fit her head but it was easy and now her hair is protected and cute a a few weeks 😁thank you!
Hi, love ❤️ My hair is 3c(ish) and I never do my own hair. Tonight, for the first time ever - I braided for 3.5 hours and although I look stunning (🤩)It made me feel super proud of myself ! I also started to take a better care of my skin and generally I treat myself alot better, and you're definitely a major part of this blessed change in my life. Thanks a lot for everything. Sending you tons of appreciation, all the way from Israel😇
Good for you!! honestly ,I have similar hair. Taking my first step in braiding my own for the first time cuz I don’t have money lol and time to seat in someone else’s house all that time.
as a momma of 2 mixed little girls, I thank you! I've tried box braids on my oldest once before but couldn't get the root right. then I payed someone to do her hair & I just don't have that type of money & it looked a lil sloppy. I think im ready to go back in & try to do them myself! she loves her braids & I love the extra sleep in time in the a.m. before school lol. thank you!
My jaw dropped and I just went “WOW” because you made this look much easier than I’ve always thought. Just purchased hair from Amazon and will be trying tomorrow! I hope it’s as easy for me as it looks 🤞🏼
This tutorial was very helpful. I never braided my own hair with weave. From the method to the way she showed how to grip and measure hair. I was able to get 24 braids. I used 2 1/2 packs of Xpressions pre-stretched hair. This tutorial is perfect. I got so many compliments at work. Thank you boo! I wish I could upload a picture.
Best tutorial on UA-cam for self-braiding beginners trying to install box braids!! I tried doing box braids on myself once before and it was so awful, I thought I'd never be able to do it. Then I came across this video, and I'm sitting here in awe that I finished my OWN jumbo box braids!!! If it helps to know: - it took me 2.5 hrs just to part my hair. I was very meticulous with the front parts and didnt bother with the backwards-in-front-of-the-mirror thing for the back, I didnt have the patience for all that. Your braids will cover the back parts up anyway. - it took me 6.5 hours to braid my hair. In my defense 😂 I decided that if I was going to follow her tutorial, that I was going to go ALL OUT. Enter in my brilliant idea to go with waist-length braids on my second time ever attempting doing this 😂🥴 but i was able to do it thanks to this video!!! TL/DR: For $40 and 9 hours (at home!), I was able to follow this video and get the box braid style I want. I'm doing my own box braids from now on. 💙
You are heaven sent!!😭🙏🏼 My very first time even working with loose hair and I was finally able to give my daughter box braids that she's been wanting for the longest!!! Thank you so much for making it so easy to follow! ❤
I know this video was a year ago but WOW! I did exactly what you said and I have now braided my own hair twice with this tutorial. THANK YOU for making this an easy process and my hair looks great! I am so happy with this process.
Same this saved my life not even joking I have so much hair and I'm tendered head I don't like other ppl in my hair and I want protective styles so I don't have to be in my head every single day. Especially in the summer when I swim.
Can we talk about how much I LOVED her hair after she took the twists out before she braided it 😍 braids are cute too, hope mine turns out just as cute 🤞🏽
so i watched and did my hair today, i then wrapped the ends with rods and hot water them to make the curly, i feel so proud of myself, i will continue to watch and keep learning, no more hair dresser will be braiding these hair again.
I did it! After watching your video several times, I finally got the courage to attempt this style and color! I am so proud that I did box braids for the first time. Thank you!
Girrrllll, you saved my life, I have been practicing sooo many different ways to do box braids by several different UA-camrs, and yours is THE ONLY technique that was successful for me!. I’ve been at my hair all day and still going, lol but I’m loving the look so far, thanks for your video💜
Just finished doing my hair and I love the look. It took the whole day mostly due to detangling and parting but I’m so happy with the results. Thank you for this tutorial. Subscribe button clicked.
Girrrl, say that AGAIN ‼️: "UNTIL I START." 😂🤣😂🤣 I tried to do these typa braids following her tutorial. It took me 3 days, hair was all over the place... in the end I just wasted my time AND money on the supplies, because I just ended up paying a professional. 😩 She makes it look SO easy!! Kim is like the Beyonce of UA-cam for me. 😂 Consistently solid execution, great- quality content, private af (we know EXTREMELY little about her personal life: not a last name, zodiac sign, where she lives, NOTHING except that her name is Kim and she's orig. from Baltimore w/2 kids... we can't even go digging for tea bcuz we know so little). AND, her channel and the comments underneath each video are positive, which is sadly uncommon for UA-cam. 😩🤣 I have never seen a negative comment under any of her videos. And I'm sure that all of this is exactly the way she wants it.👌🏾
I am SO mesmerized by your videos! I have a combination of curly, wavy, frizzy, easily tangled hair that rarely does anything that resembles any real style. As a white woman, I would never try to appropriate or wear these exact styles (although they're freaking AMAZING). But I'm learning so many tips and tricks from your videos about different styling aids and products that are starting to give me a little more control over my combination hair. And the videos are just so informative and fun to watch! I'm really glad one of them popped up on my video feed 🤗
I have watched many of your videos. Incredibly straight forward, easy to follow, and no matter who is watching(novice or professional) we always come out winning! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you! Be blessed!
Finally a braiding video that I feel like I can do! Then other ones be looking like rocket science with a bunch of little ones all over they head. I know I don't have the patience for that but the bigger ones seem easier.
Thank you so very much for this video. I have been working really hard to get my adopted daughters hair strong and healthy the last 4 years. I’ve watched lots of videos but this was by far the easiest to follow to learn how to braid it for her. She is so happy today. It took 3 1/2 hours and looks pretty good for my first attempt.
Girllll…you are great and I tried it your way after looking at many other UA-camrs and couldn’t get the technique. The others were braiding just too fast coupled with all the background music. You made it look easy and so it was. I did it, not on my own hair but my beautiful grand daughters. Yes I’m 60 years young and I braid my granddaughter’s hair for school, play and church. Thanks to you..my grand said “Ma Ma I love my hair.” Of course I just melted when she said that. Thanks again!
Omg I did them and they look AMAZING!!! My family can't believe I did them myself, they thought I went to the Africans 🤣🤣 I'm so hooked now. I'll be wearing braids from now on thanks to this video EDIT: I've been wearing braids ever since this video, my Afro has grown and gotten thicker and I LOVE wearing braids, I wear them smaller now, but I wanted to do some big ones again today and came back here...I'm truly thankful for this video...I no longer wear wigs, I gave all my lacefronts to my Mother In law..she lost her hair.
Oh my gosh bless this video. This gave me so much power over my hair to stop waiting for someone to do it. It took maybe 5 or 6 hours because parting is UGH and it's not perfect AT ALL but THANK YOU. ❤
I’ve watched this video and your other one about 20x’s over the last couple months. I have a 9 year old who has been asking for box braids and finally tonight I started them for her! Your method is surely the best for beginners!
I followed your last jumbo braids tutorial! I really think the style fits me so well. I tried something different because of you, you make everything look so amazing and pretty! Thank you!
I change my style and color every months (we go over the top, and burgundy is sort of my baseline) and indeed, it feels like becoming a new person every month. Thanks for this. I've been doing my own hair for a year now, and starting to get more fixed on making sure I'm blending well. Also appreciate seeing a video that doesn't make me feel lame for starting with the front.
I did it!!! Wow~ I can't believe it worked so well! Any goofs are easily hidden, I so appreciate your tutelage! Thanks, won't spend another dime paying for another one to do it. 3.5 hours with my daughter helping me with the parts (I'm trash on parting when it's my own head). THANKS!!
I just followed your other chunky box braid tutorial last week and did my braids. Nonstop compliments!! And I just received your cookbook, can’t wait to try those recipes! Such amazing quality!
Hello. Thanks for posting this. Im new to braiding with fake hair lol. I’ve always done my daughters hair, she’s now 10, but never done cornrows or box braids like this. I watched several videos to learn after having several people let me down who could not come through and after doing half of her head, I got the technique down…three hours later! Anyway a key point in this is on the second braid you do, you show the loop and after going back to review the video, I was watching you do the first braid where you don’t mention the loop and that’s the key to helping the braid stay in place while you’re beginning to attach. Ugh!! Wish I would’ve caught that hours earlier but eventually I figured it out lol. Thanks again and should be much easier next time. Keep in mind guys, she did say she has been doing this for years and many of the comments I read said it was your first try like mine. But I was not gonna be defeated by some damn hair!! Thanks again!
I love your videos, I am doing my daughters braids Because the cost to get them done is outrageous. You are teaching me and I love it!!! You make it easy!
Ma'am seeing how easy this appears on this video is making me want to try it on my 2 little cousins. I just might once the hair store opens this morning.
So I watched this video repeatedly over the past couple weeks and finally got the courage to try it on one of my three daughters hair . This is my very first time and my braids are kind of lumpy and bumpy 🥴but I’m proud of them . Thank you for this tutorial ‼️
Great job! It’ll get better the more you practice. I do all my own styles now. It’s part of my “me time”. I put on a good movie and sit in front of a mirror and try to get cute.
Just got this color for my daughter. I'm mixing it with some color 1 because her hair is dark but so far still gives a lovely ombre at the bottom but a bit darker at the root and the color really shows nicely. I blended it pretty well so that most of the roots don't have any streaks of color.
Getting ready to braid my daughter's hair for the first time. I watched your video a few times, and we're excited to see the her hair when it's finished. Thank you so much for this video, it is so helpful for a beginner like me.
I've been reading and understanding the culture and history of braids. From the past to how it's used now a days. And I have to say it is truly amazing how much time and dedication you guys give to your hair. It truly is beautiful. Black culture is truly beautiful. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. I hope it's okay if I do this hairstyle not for views or anything. But because I truly admire the culture. UGH the results is so beautiful 😍 Dedication and time really shows. Hair is absolutely stunning flawless and gorgeous! Kings/Queens of hair! 😍
I want to say thank you for setting the example of how we should be learning and growing with each other instead of hating each other simply because we don't understand each other's culture's. If all humans did this the world would truly be a different place! God Bless you and I hope you continue to make a difference even if you don't realize it.
YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE! One of my front braids just fell off and I was like « oh my gosh what should I do, how to put it back? I gotta go to a birthday » 😭 And then I looked for a tutorial and found you!!!!! Lemme tell you FOR YEAAAAAARS I could not get how to install braids. Everybody tried to teach me and I always failed! And now with you I JUST LEARNED! My style is saved and I will definitely revisit this video to challenge myself and braid myself on my own. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH 🙏🏾🙏🏾 🙏🏾🙏🏾 May you be blessed for all the good that you do 🙏🏾✨✨✨✨
Do u have a picture of your hair if you don't mind me asking I'm pregnant and I can't get nobody to do my hair so I rather try to practice in my own head
@Kashish Gupta no, it's not the same without the fake hair. I can braid natural hair but I've always struggled with the extra hair.. but that's what I want.
I'm giving this tutorial a try tonight on my granddaughters hair. It looks so good and you make it seem so easy for beginners, because that's what I am. I'll let you know how it goes and thanks for giving us the help we need.
Wow! After spending over an hour attempting to redo one of my braids (watching a tutorial of someone installing a braid on a mannequin) i said let me pull up DIY hair braiding and you popped up. OMG! The rubber band method. You’re amazing. I found 1 small rubberband and put your method to work…. I got it. Thanks hon.
Great tutorial! Your step-by-step instructions are super easy to follow. I love how you explained each detail thoroughly. Thanks for sharing your expertise! Looking forward to trying this out.
You made this look SO easy. I can braid others hair, but not my own - biggest problem is I can't see the back - but the fact that you made the parting look so easy, I like the making 3 strands before you start I think that'll help me TREMENDOUSLY with the back of my head. I can't wait to try this when I get off work !!
Thank you so much for this video. My daughter really wanted braids and is super tender headed. This allowed me to do her hair and give her a style she loved.
I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart! i thank you, my wallet thanks you, my higher self thanks you. I am typing this now in 2022 with half a head done knowing I have to wake up and drive a hour and a half to the beauty supply tomorrow to get more hair just so I can finish my head because today, tonight, well actually yesterday at this point because its 1 am I started braiding my hair and it looks so GOOD! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
That is exactly what I'm using it for, a Cruise Vacation. I usually wear two strand twists that I do myself, but have been longing to try braids with extensions and you have given me the confidence to do it. Thank You.😮
I've been wanting box braids FOR YEARS, but could never quite get it right. This video helped me get there. Great video. And your hair looks amazing, btw!
Thank you sssoooo much, girl! Thanks to this video, I braided my daughters hair for the first time. I never thought i could! She is happy, and I am extremely proud of myself. It's far from perfect, but still, it looks nice & cute. God bless you❤
I wanted to try my own braids but couldn't imagine how I was going to do it and up pops your video. After watching you I am sure I can do it, including the all the tips to get a really neat looking head...Thank you so much for a great training video!! I love the color and it is beautiful on you and so is your eye-color! 💕
Thank you so much for this video!! I have never braided in my life (using extensions). Today I braided my daughter’s hair for the first time and she loved it. You did a great job explaining everything. 💜
I just did this today! Definitely took me longer than 3 hours but it was my first time! And I have no idea what the back looks haha! But from the front, I am very happy with how it turned out! Thank you for this tutorial! :)
The color is perfect on you!! I just did box braids for the very first time on my sister and boy did I struggle with making the braids tight. This video is a game changer though. If I ever do braids again I'll definitely use your tips!!
I did this 2 weeks ago for my trip back home to visit my family. My best friends were shocked that I did it myself and proclaimed I had "skills." This tutorial was the absolute bomb. Hope your experience is great as well.
Awesome tutorial! Tried and succeeded! Not perfect as yours but decent enough for my beach trip and I know I’ll only get better and perfect it each time I do it! Been subscribed to you for years and you never miss! The hair, the meals everything!
the way that im white and yet here i am. watching a woman do box braids. (im trying to learn for future purposes AKA i want to do baby sitting and im going to be prepared for any hair type. i pray.)
Don't listen to the negativity anybody tell you about our hair. As a black woman I applaud you because I know alot of yt ppl who can install braids, weaves, and wigs and do a better job than most. Do your thing sis ❤
can't leave without saying that you made this look sooo easy! definitely adding this to my personal playlist to try soon. You look gorgeous with the colour too!
Yes!! I saw your video and finally purchased the hair, gel, and parting comb! Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I got medium knotless braids done this summer…cost me over $200. I hope I can master this so I can save $$. Total cost=$25!
Omg girl it is, it only took me 40 minutes came into work looking fresh🥰even my boss who's Russian was funded by box braiding now he wants to get his daughters box braiding he loved it.
I just wish I could show you photos of how my first attempt turned out! All the compliments I received?! Thank you SO MUCH for giving me the confidence to try braiding my hair for the first time (and saving a girl some serious dough)! Keep shining 🫶🏾💛✨
Beautiful real hair! Thank you for washing the fake hair first! That’s what I’m talking about!! You did that! This need millions of views! I definitely shared it
You make it look so easy!! I just know the minute I get in front of the mirror with my hair I’ll be on the bus to struggle city 🥴😩

How did the parting go? Especially the back . That’s the part I’m terrified about lmao
@Schae-Ann Salmon I used a tri side mirror that can be hung up to do the back of my head. I got it off amazon for $19

Same thing, I have a one year old, I refuse to pay all of that money at a salon. I'm about to try this style now!
I remember learning to braid my own hair. It's a process for sure! How'd it turn out for you?

The last time I braided my hair myself was 2011. Thanks Kim, I was ably to braid my hair using this technique. You’re the best when demonstrating 💕
I watched your first tutorial of braiding and this is the second time I have braids on my hair made by me and I am proud of myself. Thanks for sharing
You go Wendyyyyy. Glad to help!
I’ve watched this video and your other one about 20x’s over the last couple months. I have a 9 year old who has been asking for box braids and finally tonight I started them for her! Your method is surely the best for beginners!
I did mine today got loads of compliments already! Thank you for sharing Beautiful ❤
I followed your last jumbo braids tutorial! I really think the style fits me so well. I tried something different because of you, you make everything look so amazing and pretty! Thank you!
How many bags did you use?
Baby I swear she could have parted the Red Sea 🌊😩👏🏽
Lmao 😭😭
I abs love this comment😭
Oh my God!!🤣🤣 you are hilarious!
😂
i am DEAD lmao
I change my style and color every months (we go over the top, and burgundy is sort of my baseline) and indeed, it feels like becoming a new person every month. Thanks for this. I've been doing my own hair for a year now, and starting to get more fixed on making sure I'm blending well. Also appreciate seeing a video that doesn't make me feel lame for starting with the front.
Box braids are one of the prettiest hairstyles ever honestly
I did it!!! Wow~ I can't believe it worked so well! Any goofs are easily hidden, I so appreciate your tutelage! Thanks, won't spend another dime paying for another one to do it. 3.5 hours with my daughter helping me with the parts (I'm trash on parting when it's my own head). THANKS!!
So I’m about to be up all night and try this 😩❤️ I got this
Did u get it done. 👌🏾 we need to, to save ourselves some $
Update: How did u do lol??
Your box braids are always super cute ,neat and tidy. I love your banding and jam technique
YOU'RE A LEGEND GIRL, I CAN NEVER DO THIS WITH LONG NAILS, IT CAME OUT SO CLEAN AND NEAT.
I may make a trip to the hair store to try this method on my daughters. It is the best beginner tutorial that I have ever seen.
Omg I just attempted for the first time and it came out great. Even though I was really intimidated and almost gave up
I really admire people with this skill and patience. I salute you. As for me: that's why hairdressers will always be in business.
She the only one that shows how exactly u add the hair ilyyyyyy

Thank you ! You haven't said anything offensive. I love learning from other cultures as well! God bless you!
What a lovely comment. Keep being wonderful .
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH 🙏🏾🙏🏾
🙏🏾🙏🏾 May you be blessed for all the good that you do 🙏🏾✨✨✨✨
The rubber band tip is pure genius!! You're so talented! I always love your makeup also. God bless you for caring and sharing🧡
Took 2 hours and ended up making 8 braids out of my hair...looks perfectly fine!!😊
Do u have a picture of your hair if you don't mind me asking I'm pregnant and I can't get nobody to do my hair so I rather try to practice in my own head
@@jenniferbell4627 Well u can try it without fake hairs also...I just used a bunch of rubbers and alovera gel to make them
Cool 👍🏾I want to see a picture!
@Kashish Gupta no, it's not the same without the fake hair. I can braid natural hair but I've always struggled with the extra hair.. but that's what I want.
8 brains..?
You did a great job explaining the process, especially for beginners! Thank you! I'm definitely trying this!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I’m convinced that you look so pretty with any style you do♥️
Did these on myself step by step and my braids look so good!! Thank you so much for THIS!! 💜
I tried. How’d you keep the hair from slipping? My rubber bands show a little. Thx for your feedback.
Trying for the first time today wish me luck 🤞
@@fancyndzefu7798 good luck
u learnt so fast
I’m about to do this. Same amount of braids and everything. Wish me luck. 🤞🏾
U got this boo 💯
How’d it end up looking?
Me too…..
This is the best best explained tutorial. That's why I love your channel ❤
That is exactly what I'm using it for, a Cruise Vacation. I usually wear two strand twists that I do myself, but have been longing to try braids with extensions and you have given me the confidence to do it.
Thank You.😮
I had it done for a cruise too, but I would love to learn how to do it myself.
Awesome 🤩 looks so simple, which means it would take me the whole day
😂😂😂
Right or 2!! Lol😂😂😂
Frfr 😅
😆😆
Me too, but I'm determined to learn, save big bucks...
I've been wanting box braids FOR YEARS, but could never quite get it right. This video helped me get there. Great video. And your hair looks amazing, btw!
Thank you for showing the parting pattern. This video is so helpful.
Thank you sssoooo much, girl! Thanks to this video, I braided my daughters hair for the first time. I never thought i could! She is happy, and I am extremely proud of myself. It's far from perfect, but still, it looks nice & cute. God bless you❤
I love coming back here to see all the step-by-step methods to do my hair
Not only did you make it look easy, IT WAS EASY! ‘My hair came out looking good and fresh. Thank you! Also it only took me 3hrs
thank you for showing us the EXACT parting and how much hair you used. i feel like other youtubers don’t go into this much detail
The color is perfect on you!! I just did box braids for the very first time on my sister and boy did I struggle with making the braids tight. This video is a game changer though. If I ever do braids again I'll definitely use your tips!!
This video has really helped me☺️
I have just finished braiding my own hair and it looks awesome 🥰🥰
Bonsoir madame je me vous cheveux
Bonjour Madame merci beaucoup
🌆
Yes I tried it too and I love it! This video was a hit! 💕
The color is so cute! I will try this next month for my trip!
Yes it's the perfect color wanna see if they have it at the beauty supplies in my area. Where are you going for your 'hot girl' summer vacA"?
I did this 2 weeks ago for my trip back home to visit my family. My best friends were shocked that I did it myself and proclaimed I had "skills." This tutorial was the absolute bomb. Hope your experience is great as well.
Very straight forward. Good job on teaching others on how to braid. Keep up the good work.
I'm going to try it this weekend and I'm probably going to get stuck doing these all the time. It's beautiful
(im trying to learn for future purposes AKA i want to do baby sitting and im going to be prepared for any hair type. i pray.)
Get out of our business
@@tla2344this is such a dumb comment. We don’t claim this stupidity
Don't listen to the negativity anybody tell you about our hair. As a black woman I applaud you because I know alot of yt ppl who can install braids, weaves, and wigs and do a better job than most. Do your thing sis ❤
Agreed
So they can make even more $ off of blk ppl and take $ out of bok braiders hands...Smart!
can't leave without saying that you made this look sooo easy! definitely adding this to my personal playlist to try soon. You look gorgeous with the colour too!
thank you so very much!
Tysm for this video. I was able to do my 12 yr Olds hair for school for less than 20 dollars and it only took 4 hours. She loves it.
Yes!! I saw your video and finally purchased the hair, gel, and parting comb! Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I got medium knotless braids done this summer…cost me over $200. I hope I can master this so I can save $$. Total cost=$25!
True indeed!
I love this hairstyle so much 😩❤️
Thank ya!!
I’m definitely going to try this! This looks so simple to complete!
I was just thinking the same like I may actually be able to pull this off LOL!!

This is the best technique I have seen so far! I will try this the next time I put in braids.
You are so freakin talented!!!! I haven't seen anything I didnt like from you, I wish I had the patients you have you go girl💪
