I had two defender in the past and obviously lots of nostalgia but I like this one very much. Congratulations to the designers, it was not an easy task. I see here a modern Defender. It looks good and promising. I want one.
Great to see Rory Reid back. Big talent and too soon dismissed from TG!
People fail to accept that times change and design language updates. This new Defender looks spot on. Enough like the old one but right in line with the way things are going. Top job Land Rover!
Lawsyy 1 nah I'm one of those that failed
Missing you on Top Gear, excellent review/reveal. Hope it's good.
Yes, I want one too. It looks amazing. Like no other car and way ahead of any other off roader. Performance and beauty. Perfection.
Honestly if I want a modern suv I'll go with Land cruiser or Range rover. I just think the defender should keep it's boxy old look like the g wagon does.
Would you be willing to pay $90k+ for it? Land Rover explained they could not produce a small volume product like the G-Wagon unless they moved it more upmarket. They decided to use the architecture of the Discovery as a starting point (beef it up) and broaden the appeal to a wider audience. Essentially LR is building two distinct vehicles off a shared architecture to save money and keep the Defender line alive.
I’m pleased to see one thing that’s still as iconic as the old one. The badge.
Loving seeing this guy present these cars...and what a car. I think I may need to add my name to the waiting list! However, I'd still settle for an old one.
Спасибо ! Недавно провёл тест - драйв на 2020 Land Rover Defender 110. Впечатления самые лучшие ! Англичане опередили в этом классе и немцев и японцев Крутой автомобиль !
I love it, the 90 version is my dream car. I would love it just for myself and the odd passenger here and there.
I love it. I’m placing my order this week. So looking forward to experiencing the very much anticipated Big Daddy of all the off-roading SUV
Most comments on here that are negative are from people that want to live in the past, not the Now and definitely not the future. Why not go and buy an old defender and why your at it but an old black and white crt TV. They were crap as well, but no doubt you could fix it with a hammer. This new Defender is a brilliant piece of kit ( from what we know so far) Looks and talents to beat any off road vehicle out there. Yes I definitely want one. The 90 steel wheels, dark green
Looks to be spot-on to me apart from the pricing. The old Defender was a rugged utility vehicle that could be repaired in just about any garage across the world. This is priced like a luxury item or high end fashion accessory. It needs to be about £10k cheaper
It kinda reminds me of the Isuzu Trooper...but I like it. They manage to merge old school with new school quite well 🎉🎉👍🏾
Very good looking off roaders as SUVs but are they also going to make the workhorse long wheelbase & short wheelbase pickup trucks for workhorse vehicles for farms and other options where it's needed for every day working in most terrains all over the world plus for the military services etc or just another suv ? . the outgoing defenders had a good workhorse options for most terrains? anywhere?
At a starting price of £40k it will not be used in the same way as the previous. Yet another premium SUV not a work horse. Yes I like the design but I could never afford it.
Loving it. Im in the US and I refuse to get a Jeep Wrangler.
Ju M. I’m in the UK and have been lusting for the Jeep Wrangler. However I think I will go for the defender now!
Saw these at the LA Auto show and San Diego Auto show last month...they look awesome in person and I want one!
Rory is special 😊
My next coming car 🙏🏻
I am in love so far...definitely going for a test drive
If Land Rover would ring me back I would have ordered one by now..
Best of the Best, a must car to have
Question: I'm just curious to know why don't JLR just renew the classic Defender to modernize it with update equipement, like what Mercedes is still doing with the G-Wagon, just fyi, the G-wagon sells like hot cake in china, the price is like 500,000 GBP for the top spec v8.
Anyway big respect to JLR and the team who developed and manufactured this vehicle, really nice and honest.
Always enjoy when you do the reviews fam. 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! We appreciate the feedback.
Well presented, great review! Looking forward to your driving review.
Awesome review I really love defender
The old defender could traverse a 45° angle aswell so that's nothing new, also remember JC testing the porsche cayenne and grounded it on a killer knife edge just as a class 2 defender went up, over and down the other side.. effortless.
Still Love the car, the presenter and the review. More please Rory.
So its a honda element?
So JLR now sell 10 different luxury SUVs, but not a single utilitarian 4x4.
I will wait for the reviews. This is just an advert
Land Rover will delete All Reviews available on UA-cam because it's Discovery, not defender
Shame on you
Certainly has the old defender's body shape, I like it.
I share the same fondness for the Honda Element as the designers at Land Rover. Thank you for a great review.
This is really well presented by the host.
The 110 looks absolutely awesome. Was going to get a Range Rover Sport but will wait until you test drive this because it looks fabulous. Got loads of character!
@Ego Planer Bad?
@Ego Planer Thanks buddy. But air suspension is best avoided in general? Why?
Not sold on the 110 but the 90 looks great! Good video too guys :)
They have done a great job at a good price.
Love the green one with the steel wheels.
This shouldve been the new disco
Can someone please tell me how you choose to add the protruding front bumper? Is it because of the front winch?
It's no longer a practical rugged utility vehicle. Doesn't look like you could easily repair or replace parts and bodywork or hose it out.
All that tech in areas where no or virtually no phone signal and dial up internet at home is going to be handy. It's another Chelsea tractor.
David Marsden you can hose it out. Rubberised boot floor and no carpets. Designed to be used as a defender
The back looks better than the front
@@brianhume4743 so true. Haha
The back looks like an eighties Vitara
The back is amazing so is the interior. But they should have retained that defender grill and the lights just like the G-Wagen
@@awgatsheni6598 true
Yes, with respect, I think you are wrong. From a design perspective ( I am a designer) 'change' or modernity are not the issues here. It's a great car. If they build it right, if its reliable, it will do well. Good! But it's a cop out. Design wise, this is the product of a safety-first mind-set. An urban mind set. McGovern did a great job with the Velar. This is his speciality. But, Velar is uber Bauhaus, uber urban. Defender isn't. Defender could and should have echoed the soul of Land Rover. The attitude of an iconic 4X4, not a warmed over Freelander. This car should have felt (and feelings are key here, Gerry) like granite. Sophisticated in every way, but with the personality of a warrior/a picasso/a Sean Connery (and yes, designers think this way). Instead, we have an accountant/a renoir/a Pierce Brosnan. They could have had it all. If Jags retired designer had done this, we'd now have EPIC, instead we have soap.
It does feel like granite. -Rory
They killed one of the last utility SUV's to bring another soccer mom SUV to the market. Too pricey, too many electronics, and an interior that will be wrecked after a few days when used as a typical Defender.
Too pricey? You do realize how much old model Defenders still go for right?
You have option to buy a Dacia Duster
I like the 110 👌
The Defender gave Land Rover its credibility, it now has a full range of luxury, gadget filled Chelsea tractors :(
Can you hose down the inside?
Stuart Ramsay yes you can
Only once, before the 85 ECUs light it up like a Christmas tree.
Xavi Chuvy This car has been designed with toughness and ruggedness in mind. Please don’t make wild assumptions before it has even been driven by reviewers. Unless that is, that you have driven one, in that case, you will have first hand experience.

😂😂😂
Xavi Chuvy an answer with no words and just emojis. Music to my ears. Because now I know that you are just narrow minded and unintelligent. As a result my faith in humanity is slightly restored
Absolutely fantastic design and features and choices ...... no end I LOVE IT! please be good....;-)
90 looks amazing.
The price is crazy no matter how capable it is,just ridiculous
Love it, please be good! 😂
ey rory!!! you're back!!!
Loving the look of the 90 with the explorer pack!
TG made a mistake. AT made a power play. Rory is amazing.
loved it
Nissan Cube gets a futuristic redesign and a 2-door option.
The 3 door is wonderful
I really hope there are some decent aftermarket mods to amend the issues at the front of the car... Otherwise im pretty hopeful this will be a success. I actually prefer the 110 to the 90 which is the opposite for its predecessor
Tata do not understand the concept of a utility vehicle. Every time they redesign a classic Land Rover they head down the road of urban bling and city style icon. We have just lost the last Land Rover that had a simple ruggedness. With 85 ECUs this thing will be a more familiar sight in Land Rover workshops than it ever will in true utility roles. Come on reviewers, stop being an advertorial for Land Rover and start an honest critic of how suitable this is as a direct replacement for the vehicle it supersedes. Tough, rugged and simple to repair just left the room, replaced most likely with an engine bay so tightly packed that anything other than a service will require a workshop engine out - good for dealer labour charges, bad for owners pockets. This Defender should be renamed Surrender, there is no way it will match the lifespan of the previous model. In 10 -15 years time all the tech in these vehicles will make them a valueless liability, uneconomical to repair.
😂 😂 😂 Surrender.
You hit the nail on the head. If I want a tech fest liability, I'll go for a Range Rover. The Defender was meant to be a rugged, go anywhere toolbox on wheels. I don't like this one. Such a pity.
If you think Tata designed this you must be Indian and STUPID!
G wagen has tech too, don't expect new cars to last as long as the old ones. These times are gone
A really great quick review 👍on as much as you could tell us. A Winner!..Please do be good 🤞
is this the guy from the new top gear. or his brother?
I prefer the original styling of the 90 but on the new version I think the 110 has it with the looks.
I want the commercial version as my work runaround
Please be good!! With extras, it will be very expansive. The tecnology is expansive...
Nice looks
It looks gangster.... cant wait defender SVR
Absolutely love it
It's the same fucking shot as the one in DRIVETUBE with Hammond. Did you two decide which clips to use so it wouldn't be completely the same??!
Excellent reviews
Agreed.........without actually driving it..............That said, Rory has been pretty much up front with his other reviews (limited or otherwise). I trust him (these are not words that I use loosely about bloggers/reviews for cars or other subject matter)
What on earth are the hideous painted panels on the rear glazing?
Useful for military purposes
Why is no one commenting on the fact there is no manual option!
Have you driven a modern Land Rover manual?
barely any SUVs are manual nowadays
This 90 could be the best looking vehicle for some time from lr
looks good, very good infact, not a huge departure from the previous looks, but of course internally its newer and better, just hope its reliable as that's where Land Rovers fall down.
What I really need to know is about its reliability. Had a LR3 before and promised myself I would never buy another LR product again.
I like it.
Does this look like a Skoda Yeti? Or is it just me?
I was thinking what it reminded me of... :-)
I like it. Especially the 90 on steel wheels. Just two things they need to fix in my opinion: 1) More colours from the classic Landie colour palette - especially some nice green non-metallic ones, and 2) Ditch those ridiculous painted panels in the rear side windows! Wtf are those all about? They look silly and hinder visibility. But both of these are easy fixes.
I totally agree on the side window panels, just looks wrong.
This may well be better off road than the old defender, but in all other respects it no longer fulfills the original brief. I can't see them in military service. You won't be pulling the body off to fit a crane, fire tender, box body, camper body, mobile workshop etc etc. If this breaks down in Zambia, I can't see the local mechanic and his hammer getting it going again. No, the defenders true British replacement will be the ineos Grenadier. Google it.
POSEUR WAGON does not replace the NEEDED UTILTY VEHICLE you burcs
"How do you redefine an icon?" Land Rover asks...Well, make it look horrible and take a dump on what the old icon stood for apparently 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤣😥😢😕😭
This is a very beautiful car, very nice design but i think it should not have replaced or even been called a defender. Could have been the new Discovery. They should sell the old design to some company to continue the old story.
Priced attainable. I will definitely be considering this car
3 door is gorgeous, 5 door is fantastic. #winning
looks great
Cant get over the old defender. This new defender looks weird. And with all the new fancy technology, it means break downs cant be fixed like before.
LAND ROVER DIED ALONG WITH OLD DEFENDER.....This one looks like a toy...Yet reviewers are dying hard to make it is better than the old one....such a shame.....grow some spine guys....
Thanks for the review/presentation.
Yes people don't love changes...
The car is an Icon...
I think the car has some features of the previous versions, specially the "Back Design". The back design and the interior are awesome.
It's a beautiful car overall.
Fans will definitely think the front, the headlights are too round, too soft, not enough tough or robust... Referring to how Mercedes and Jeep have managed the design for the G-Wagon and the Wrangler. The last version of Suzuki Jimny is interesting as well.
Must admit Land Rover is targeting a more wide market to sell its cars, not only a couple of aficionados. Really high tech cars.
Wait and see how future, feedback, evolution will impact the design of this icon.
To me Defender looks like a facelift of a Freelander first gen than a new defender but that's just me
no you are not wrong , i want one
Man they Killed the defender of It is over they should pay attention for G+> Glenda vagon designer
No Namibian trip?
A Jeep from 5 decades ago looks like Jeep today. The new Defender looks nothing like the classic, which is a shame.
I could not agree more
What's with the 9Volts at 3:58? Nice when car reviewers have a bit of car knowledge to add authenticity.......
"has all the ingredients to be excellent"
Except at all the things the old Defender was excellent at. And any off-roader for that matter.
Basically an SUV pretending to be a Defender, a fashion statement and an expensive one at that, which no doubt will be as unreliable as all the other cars on the current Land Rover range. R.I.P. Defender.
Xavi Chuvy Explain? Just because it’s a bit curvy doesn’t mean it can’t go off-road.
This must have been a challenge, equivalent of making Big Ben a digital clock
? = Which one? The 90 or the 110?
The rear differential looks like its off a ride-on lawnmower
I certainly wouldn’t want to take these off road, despite the wrap on the paint.
Here, here. The King is dead. Long Live the King.
