  • In this video, I resolve the rough and surging idle on my 95 Mustang GT. These instructions and parts listed below, will work on 94 -95 Mustang GT. I replace the Idle Air Control Value, throttle position sensor and PCV valve. I have seen these issues on most of my old Ford cars and find replacing all three parts, resolve any idle issues.

    So just change stuff good or bad. I will just swap the whole engine to be sure.

    The OP didn't explain how to set the voltage on the TPS sensor with a volt meter. Most times you'll have to modify the bolt holes in the TPS to achieve KOEO voltage between 0.79V and 0.98V

    Good luck getting those screws out of the TPS next time with the thread sealer. I had to drill the heads off of the stock bolts first time I removed. And those parts store IAC’s are junk. Always go motorcraft for those.

      I have never had a problem removing them on Mustangs but I had the issue you described when removing the original TPS bolts on Ford Ranger.

    Is there a specific way to put the TPS back on? I took off my TPS and am now getting a 52 code. Going to replace the IAC as I’ve already cleaned it in the past, wondering if I should just replace the TPS as well. & The PCV is so hard to find!!
    Thanks for the video! Nice to see engines that match mine 😝

    • @chasingmustangs

      Yes, you have to make sure there is pressure on the plastic tab, but not actually moving the throttle. If you put it on wrong, if will increase idle and throw a code.

    Hey I’ve got a pretty well built 5.0 in a 95 gt, the motor always runs great, no misses,skips,pops, anything. But the car feels like it has half the power (no joke) for the first 30 minutes of it running. Then it starts to randomly feel like it’s running at full power and it will go back to running at half. Constantly going back and forth. Any thoughts?

    Hello,
    I recently acquired this engine for a swap project. However I intend to run it on an aftermarket engine management system. I'm having trouble locating the crankshaft position sensor. Has this engine got one or it uses a similar technology with the distributor system that it has? Many thanks!

    • @chasingmustangs
      @chasingmustangs  2 роки тому

      It sounds like you got an engine management system from a 96 to 98 (or later) Mustang and you are trying to use it on a 94-95 Mustang. 94-95 Mustangs have a distributor and the sensor is in the distributor. The 96 - 98 Mustangs use coil packs and the crankshaft sensor is located on the timing cover next to the crankshaft. I believe it is on the passenger side.

    My 98 4.6L GT doesnt have an idle problem exactly but it is actually very difficult to drive when i havent let the car idle for at least 15-20 minutes. The rpm's absolutely DUMP back to idle as soon as i put the clutch in, it will occasionally stall on the way out of my parking lot, if it doesnt solve itself by the time i get to the road i have to blip the throttle in between shifts so that the rpms will match to the next gear and so that it doesnt stall on the road. Its extremely frustrating but when it gets up to temp, its perfectly fine to drive.
    I do understand that i should let any car warm up before setting off but it takes what feels like 45 minutes of idling for the coolant temperature gauge to show anything but cold start cold. I have no idea why its doing that. There is also a coolant light on, but i check all fluids daily and nothing seems to be changing, leaking, moving. Anything

    • @chasingmustangs
      @chasingmustangs  2 роки тому

      Is the temperature gauge working in your car? The computer reads coolant temperature and it sounds like your car is not running correctly until the coolant heats up. I would look into fixing your coolant low issue and possibly replace the coolant temp sensor. You can always buy the part at Autozone and return it, if it does not resolve you issue.
