Hurricane Hilary: California, Arizona rain total impacts, flooding concerns grow | LiveNOW from FOX

- Hurricane Hilary rapidly intensified into a Category 4 cyclone on Friday, and forecasters said that the hurricane's path means the storm could bring "significant" impacts to Southern California and the Southwest by the weekend and into the first part of next week.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), rapid intensification occurs when a tropical cyclone's maximum sustained winds increase by at least 35 mph in a 24-hour period.
"Rainfall impacts from Hilary within the Southwestern United States are expected to peak this weekend into Monday," the NHC said in an advisory. "Flash, urban and arroyo flooding is possible with the potential for significant impacts."

People don’t realize how bad it’s going to be by Sunday night. Flooding, landslides, rockslides, mudslides, flash floods, high winds, and it’s going to rain more rain that it does in an entire year in Southern California. Be safe and prepare accordingly
And the thing is most people that live there say nothing bad will happen. And we are talking about night time when it starts. Their infrastructure is not even ready for this power outage coming.
We will see what happens. The storm should only be a tropical storm when it goes over San Diego. This is NOTHING compared to real hurricanes at Cat 3 through 5 that come into the east coast. Stop crying, dear snowflakes. This is barely a blip on our screen here in the east coast. I lived in San Diego 15 years - a years worth of rain was 9 inches.
California deserves it
California we in Florida are praying for you!
Never wish these on nobody...
@@mamacarrol5799I second that , 🙏
I don't think they ever mentioned Mexico. They're in the midst of it right now, and yet no one even referred to the people there and what they must be going through right now.
I said the same thing like it’s probably crazy over there
Hopefully TX and AZ can get in on a lil of this. Sure could use the rain.
Maybe it will wash all of the human locust transplants back to California.
@PC--Doctor I think Vegas might get it. Not a direct hit but a lot of rain
SoCal native, lived in Louisiana during Katrina, evacuated and never went back. Prepping for this one and hunkering down. These storms are no joke, no hurricane party happening here.
Yeah, other states had to absorb all of the ne'er-do-wells and criminals who left your state. Hopefully this isn't going to be a replay of that.
😡The rich Oil Oligarchs made huge prophits & live on high ground. Bet’ch they don’t give a darn about us as long as they make 💰💰💰💰 encourage Gov’mt to FORCE them to stop killing us.
Maybe it will wash away some of the California stench
Gross. We don't need that in the ocean 🤮
I'm hoping.
I know it is hard for the west coast, we in AZ need the rain in the worst way.
When the ground is extremely dry it actually increases the likelihood of major flooding because the water just flows over the top and can't saturate it. So yes the area needs the rain but be prepared for flooding as well
@@Pauly93I didn’t realize that so thank you for sharing. I’ll be spending my winter in AZ again this year.
@@patriotgrammy8632Indeed.Even if it DOESN'T come down in buckets.
A steady light rain can cause flooding too.
Az.has already seen a few small storms and wind already today. The very N.tip of the storm is pushing moisture into Az.
It was windy and cloudy this a.m.

@Pearly7 Actually 1939. Either way a very long time.
plenty of hurricanes in the eastern pacific near mexico every year. its just most of them head west out to sea and die. sometimes due to winds they are pushed toward mainland or baja. they hit acapulco or cabo every once in a while.
Where did this storm even come from? I never even heard there was a storm on the west coast.. and in California? What's going on?

With a name like Hurricane Hillary it sounds like it's going to do a lot of damage to this country, and if they ever forecast a "Hurricane Joe" or a "Hurricane Barach" then I highly recommend leaving the area
It's named Hilary, not Hillary.

I just moved from SoCal and I know which freeways flood in a hard rain. It's going to be a mess as Seal Beach floods with the tide. We're going to hear of damage depending where and how bad it is going to be. There are burn scar areas in the SoCal area and this rain is going to get debris flowing or possibly anyway. I am sure that homes will flood as they flood if we get a good rain. There will be a lot of car accidents as people drive like crazy in the rain.
I lived here for 40 years - it is going to be a normal weekend . Stop being such a boot liking sheep follower. This guy is a complete hack who has no idea what he is talking about. It will be some clouds.

hopefuly it will clear off the feces so the homeless can start over.
Like the cool windy 74° summers when 100 30 miles away in pasadena
tide flooding is unlikely as storm is coming from the south up and not west coast in, but could happen.
I'm sure California will get help quickly, meanwhile the citizens in the other states will have to wait their turn. Just like our citizens in Maui, my heart goes out to them for all the losses there.
I truly hope and pray to God that this storm does not do horrendous damage no matter what path it takes. We experience many hurricanes on the east coast and I know the damages that they can do. Prayers for all people in the path of this storm!

@@robertnicolau8748nope! I double checked.
Typhoon is for the NorthWEST Pacific
While hurricane is northEAST AND Atlantic pacific.
A cyclone is South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
They all cover the Pacific. It will switch names when it moves to a different area of the world. (Starts out typhoon. Moves over towards USA it switches to a hurricane)
It also doesn’t help that the area this formed in is actually considered to be an area too cold to develop any storm of this magnitude! So, I’m not surprised at people or being sure what to call this!
It actually formed on the grey area between typhoon, cyclone, and hurricane!!!
If you’d like a visual map for my explanation google “Differences between typhoon, cyclone, and hurricane” and you should find a map that shows the different areas.
Otherwise, there’s NO difference. It’s just a different name for a different location!
