in 16 years, ive owned 36 vehicles. only two of which cost more than $1000. my last one was a 2006 Impala i paid $150 for with a good safety sticker somehow. I immediately cut the cat off, and put in a piece of scrap pipe i had, bent with pie cuts lol. got my $175 for the cat, so the car was essentially free. I drove the bag off that thing for 8 months. 365k kms on it. the only thing i ever put on it were wipers, and tires from our scrap pile at the shop (still had 4/32" tread), aligned with a measuring tape. eventually the transmisson went, so i scrapped it for $600, which more than covered my registration fee and insurance for that 8 month period. FREE CAR! lol.
BUT, I will say. I have only ONCE got stranded on the side of the road, and that was due to a bad ignition switch. I had wires and a relay, as well as a momentary push button in my random bag of tricks and tools in the trunk, so i wired up my own switch and made it home unassisted!.
      Beater cars rule dude.

    I just had an idea...
When you're done with ROADKILL NIGHTS in Michigan.. ship the car to Dulcich in Cali and let him make an episode where he repairs the torsion bar holders and the floor pans.
Because you need this thing being better, and we need more of the big man.

    • @stephenlea5765

That’s the structural box trying into each side of the frame that provides resistance to the twist for the torsion bars. Need to figure out a way to incorporate that back into the car…or go with the aftermarket IFS coil spring front subframe that eliminates the torsion bars.

I know it's just a rusty clone, but there's something I really like about the dumpster fire Daytona.
I'm glad you got it running and it made it to Roadkill Nights and we got to see it for a brief couple of minutes on the live feed, but I understand that you didn't want it to fold in half (I was hoping to go, but health issues at the last minute prevented that).
I realize you have no intentions of actually restoring it, but I hope you eventually have the time or interest in at least fixing it enough to keep it on par with the work you've put into Death Metal.
I also know everything takes money, and you have things that priority over this project too. Maybe Birdsong would be interested in donating some time and/or parts at in the future to keep it at least more functional and less likely to crumple into a Mopar ball of decaying tin foil.
In either event, I'm glad you kept it from not being used and languishing more, and we get to see it. Hopefully it sticks around in the collection.

20:45 The torsion bar is the most stable form of sprung suspension ever devised because it has virtually zero jounce or rebound, as compared to oil or leaf type springs.
It is a sad shame that so few people realize how superior they are to coil or leaf suspensions when it comes to actual, roadable traction, especially on rough pavement.
Admittedly, well built air suspension is better, but it takes up more space and requires more work to install than to reinstall the original T.B.S.

We fit a lot of these side shift trans to various US and EU cars, the best way to box off the shifter area is to bend a vertical 3-side piece in the brake, and behind the shifter let it stick through the round shape of the tunnel a little bit. That way you can run the sharpie past the edge and have a perfect fit.

Ordered a nut sert kit for my shop from Amazon a couple weeks ago that has a range from 8/32 to 1/2". It's a tool I know I won't use that much but the times I've needed it and didn't have it were frustrating. Great tool to have. When I built my car and added a close out panel to the firewall where the ac box once was, I mounted my fuel pressure regulator to the panel by drilling 1/4" holes all the way through and mounting it with bolts. I needed help from my son to do this. With this tool I could have added nut serts to the panel and mounted the regulator myself. It would have been worth the cost of the tool for just that job alone.

I had a 68 charger back in the day. M/T N50-15s tucked under and in perfectly without any modifications. Don't remember what the offset of rim was. But it fit between rails and quarter. Satin Centerlines with 50's tucked, looked so badass from behind. Especially with the 68 taillights. 1968 was my favorite yr of the charger, because of the rear panel and taillights.

I have a 95 airbagged short bed Chevy, it's been a show truck for part of its life. I grew up in Montana, my teenager years I was a Cali, style lowrider guy. But I just subscribed to Truckin magazine. I knew I could find ol show trucks someday, still looking for the yellow ex cab shorty with chromed, wish bone front suspension..

All the old Charger needs is a pump sprayer filled with rust converter to hose it down inside and out so it might still be there the next time you want to road trip.

@FINNEGAN : You should contact QA1 for a front suspension. I am sure they would love to have it shown to all of your and Roadkill's watchers!! That will get rid of the crossmember issues and torsion bars taking up real-estate.. Also, looks like the hood is coming down on the air cleaner..

@Finnegan_GarageMike you already know that I'll be checking periodically. I've been watching y'all since the first Raunchero episode. My favorite episode was #23 with y'all building the General Mayhem with the RV 440 and the 727 out of the 24 Hours of Lemons car and then I think it was episode 32 when y'all took it to DirtFish. When MTOD became a thing I knew the price of subscription was worth it. It's been paying off ever since. Thank you for the years of entertainment in many different shows. I also really enjoyed the Corvette to the Bowling Green Corvette Museum episode. The gator head on the dash and the eagle's head on the toolbox was the crowning touch!
