I’m on my second12v impact... love it too. It’s the perfect size and power for around the house. First one literally “fell” apart. If you haven’t had it happen, those small torx screws holding the tool together loosen over time and you’ll find tightening them makes it operate properly again. Since they are just screwed into the plastic housing my threads finally just broke out from the shear number of impacts and no longer could be tightened. My charger stopped charging couple months back and I’ll now fix that too. Thanks for taking the time to share! Side note, I bought an upgrade Hitachi/Metabo 18v “replacement” and it’s too powerful, harder to control the applied torque, and your finger activates the reverse switch doing single hand extended reach operations... fail!
Hi Rob, My identical Hitachi charger stopped working a few months ago, and while I was searching for a new one on line your video popped up. I just opened my charger up and found the exact same bulged out capacitor. Seems it may be a common issue in the older chargers...... Off to the electronics shop tomorrow to grab a couple of new capacitors :). Fingers crossed it fixes the issue as it did in your one. Love my little Hitachi impact driver - be great to get it back up and running again. EDIT - 470 micro Farad 35v capacitor replaced and the charger working like a charm again. Thanks for posting your video Rob :) :)
Hey Rob saw your video got a new capacitor installed it wrong smoked it replaced with a new one Its ALIVE !! luckily I have 18 more capacitors for when it blows again Thanks for the video saved me $50 on a new charger
Sweet! I love my little Hitachi which I've had for several years. Recently it just stopped charging and like yourself I took my charger apart and spotted the bulging capacitor - figured that may be it but wasn't sure until I just now saw your video. Thanks to UA-cam I've actually repaired flat screen monitors due to capacitor failure. Next stop Amazon. Thanks Rob! Note: I also have a brother Rick..

HaHa! That answers the question of what happens if you install it backwards!
I don't use my Hitachi too often, but it's hanging in there!
@@robertveldman1901 I use mine a lot for small jobs as long as the batteries keep holding a charge I won't replace them

That's hilarious! I also fixed a monitor with a capacitor issue, years ago. That's why I was clued in to look at capacitors.
