It's the tightest 777 economy seat I've ever sat in and the (quite long) flight was extremely unpleasant as a result. Really made me wonder why everyone was so raving about them. The A380 was 10 times more comfortable.
Well I think you hit the nail on the head there- I'm not sure anyone raves about the 777... For years Emirates has been gliding on their A380 and more recently 777 FIrst class marketing.
100% agree with this.. I flew 777 economy with Emirates about 9 years ago and the only thing I remember about it is how small and uncomfortable the seat was. It has forever left this bad impression of Emirates, as if they are just trading on their first class product.
For someone born and raised in Lahore, who moved to the United States 35 years ago, it is such a pleasant surprise to see my favorite UA-camr, Kevin, to visit Lahore and Karachi. You are truly a world traveler.
The numbers you mentioned about the new airport are just mind boggling. Still trying to let it sink in… Thank you for another great review jam packed with so much background information 🙏🏼💫
Wonderful review Kevin! I flew the Emirates 777 with the 3-4-3 configuration on my flight from Dubai to Dallas (16hrs). I didn't face much difficulty with the legroom, but that just may be cause I'm 168cm tall. Cheers!
I would have done the same. That said, I remember my feeling when sitting in Cathay's 3-4-3 to be much more favorable than on Emirates. That said, CX's aisles seemed like they were 20cm wide.
The interior of the 77X is 4.5 inches wider than the legacy 777s. Play around with the aisles a bit and you've got 0.5" per seat of extra width in 3-4-3, putting it on par with standard 787 3-3-3 seats, which aren't fantastic, but much better than current days 777 3-4-3
@@Jamesdevil Probably. The 777-9s have about the same room as the 787's due to "better designed" internal wall fit out but I "lazy avoid" 787s too. It sucks because the 777 is my second favourite plane to fly in.
9:56 Emirates already installed 3-4-3 layout all the way back in 1996 when they first received the 777-200s. Back then, majority of airliners offered 3-3-3 or 2-5-2 in the same aircraft, but sure Emirates weren't afraid of making the seats so tight!
@@tfft As someone who's been flying Emirates since the early '90s I'm pretty sure they have followed the same standard throughout all their 777s, and I've flown with them a couple of times.
Excited for this series, I finally got enough miles to get to Dubai (buss class) from sfo. I am mainly excited to fly the a380 and visit Pakistan. Please hurry with the rest of the Vids!
Kevin having flown in multiple 777 economy from multiple airlines I have never seen a 777 not having 3-4-3 configuration. I do think that older 777s on emirates are not as pleasant as the newer 777s but I do absolutely love to be able to have working power outlets on every single plane. Apart from few Asian airlines I don’t think any 777 seat configuration is much different.
I flew with them last month, 3 out of 4 sectors I got planes equipped with IFE older than the one you got, with one of them coming out from the 2000s. Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that, with how much they take pride of their state of the art IFE. The crew are hit or miss, I got one who is really nice and one who woke me up by slamming my window blind shut on the same flight. Meals are pretty good but the service is kinda slow. All in all I wouldn’t fly economy with them again if I have the option, except if I’m sure that all of the sectors I’m flying with them are with the A380 or hopefully the A350. I honestly got whiplash when I hopped out from the 777 to the A380, the difference is night and day 😂.
That view of DXB is my favorite, because if I’m seeing what’s in the vid, it means I’m getting out of the sandbox for points elsewhere, and that’s a good day, especially during the 7 months of summer the country has.
Agree 100% with this assessment. If on EK in economy it’s always an aisle seat and always on the 380. The overburdened tray is a particular bugbear of mine - not so bad if you’re lucky enough not to have someone sat next to you, but a real pain otherwise.
Yeah I'd actually really like to try out one of the A380 economy seats on the upper deck with the side storage bin. That seems like an upgrade in itself to me.
This is why I religiously avoid 3-4-3 on the 777, even after 300 flights and 500,000 I've never flown it. 2-4-2 A330s, 3-4-3 A380s and 2-4-2 787s all the way! That extra inch or even half an inch is worth its weight in diamonds.
We’re flying DXB to DEL in December. At 6’ 7” I’m glad I paid for extra legroom seats. For two of us in economy it was over a $1000 in seat fees for round trip travel from YYZ. There are times when I’ve been unable to lower myself into the seats if I don’t manage to get extra legroom. At least these days you can book in advance even if it costs a lot. In the old days I’d turn up three hours early and have even been known to cry when they said no!
Now I understand why Airbus promos the XWB factor on their A350. They're taking a deliberate shot at the B777. Great meal, I would be very happy with that in economy.
So many times flying economy to have my knees pushed up hard against the arm rests infront of me. Certainly not a fun time. That master plan though wow wow whee wah, giga terminals, it would be unreal if they built thr whole lot out in 10 years. Another great review ❤
Ever since I jumped onboard during your “hub” series, I was wondering if Pakistan would make the list and was pleasantly surprised to hear it would in the last video! Really enjoyed this one Kevin, next time you find yourself in Pakistan try to hop aboard EK600 to Karachi, the very flight that started Emirates.
I rarely agree with the host of this channel but on the 3-4-3 issue he is 100 % correct. My last ANA flight was on a B777-300er and I was in an exit row seat and it felt tight. I am 5 ft 8 in and weigh 150 pounds. Because of this I now avoid ANA when I cross the Pacific ocean I cross the Pacific Ocean and back at least 3 times a year.
I really liked my 2hr Emirates 777 flight to Delhi after a 14.5hr flight from Vancouver. As a somewhat shorter person, I wasn't bothered by the seat tightness, and was moreso enamored with the gigantic IFE screens and the wonderful (vegan for me!) breakfast. It was definitely a full flight and I had trouble finding space for my overhead bag though the FAs were incredibly kind in helping find a space for it. Would definitely fly them again...but also hoping to fly direct YVR to DEL on either a new Air India plane or with AC again sometime soon.
Kevin - any Virgin Atlantic Business Class trip(s) coming up? With the new dynamic pricing - there will be a lot of us experiencing Virgin and it would be GREAT to hear your thoughts on one or two of their airplane options in Business Class (no one does it like our Flip Flop Traveler!). Thanks for all that you do for all of us!
Yeah ..well I had 14hours in one of those seats a few years ago due to a downgrade and it was the worst!! EK is all about premium cabins which they do quite well … most of the time .. economy nah .. 400 gates at that new airport .. let’s hope that doesn’t come at the expense of people literally losing their lives building it - great video Kevin as usual 👏
I 100% agree. I love Emirates A380 economy but I avoid the Emirates 777 for flights longer than 3-4 hours. Hoping for the EK A350 is better than the 777.
Had a similar experience myself when I flew Emirates economy class from Cape Town to Delhi via Dubai last year, with both legs on B777s. Cape Town - Dubai was a fairly comfortable flight for its near 10 hours, but that’s largely because I had an aisle access and a vacant neighbour seat, and the crew served atleast 50% more calories per meal than any other airline I’ve flown till date. But the cabin was a bit dated - probably due for a refurb - and the crew was a bit curt (though not impolite). Transiting in Dubai was unpleasant. The terminal was awfully crowded, toilets were dirty, and all the shopping and dining choices felt squarely aimed at squeezing the most amount of money out of you. I probably had my most expensive cup of Cafe Nero here. Honestly glad to have left, and couldn’t understand what the hype about the airport was all about - perhaps only if you’re flying at the front end of the aircraft. Dubai - Delhi was very similar to your Lahore experience. With a packed flight, the tight seat was woefully apparent, and even at the short flying time of under 4 hours, I felt very cramped when I finally deplaned - and I’m not even a very tall or big fellow. However, the food service was excellent, the crew was very warm (they were even taking Polaroid snaps of all children flying onboard and handing them out with a goodie bag - haven’t seen that happening in a long time, and I was honestly feeling jealous!), and the aircraft legitimately had the CRISPEST IFE screens (both seat-back and on the hand-held consoles) I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to your videos from Pakistan! As I’m Indian, I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to visit the country, so always glad to get a chance to live vicariously through others’ experiences :)
Can we just take a moment to admire the production value of Kevins vids? The flawless editing, the perfectly matched ambient music, the spot on historical information. Sorry for the fan-boying. But this is next level!
Yeah, you are totally right the seats are quite narrow, that why I love premium economy 😊😅! Again thank you for all the great videos you publish! Quick question, what hotels would you recommend in Dubai? Thanks!
Another great video. Ugh, your poor knees 😖 can you imagine if the person in front of you reclined! Thanks for always giving awesome advice and reviews. Continued safe travels.
I just flew my first 3-4-3 777 flight last year, granted it was a 1 hour flight with ANA, so I didn’t have time to feel any real “pain”. I’d have to do a long haul flight on one to see if I have the same sentiment. Even with 3-3-3 config, I don’t find the seats any wider, just that I can squeeze past a flight attendant with the cart in the aisle.
4:06 Given that Emirates has more than 50% of all A380, it is funny to imagine that if Emirates had their modern day route network in the 1990s, they would be flying Boeing 747 for nonstop flights to Australia, Americas, and beyond.
I flew a 25hr routing between DC and CPT on Emirates on both the A380 and the 777. I actually liked the 777 more. Now don't get me wrong, not having maybe 10+ brats running around the cabin and kicking your chair for 14.5 hrs helped, but it just felt larger and more airy. Now, here is what I think the situation is, and peoppe need to remember this. Aircraft manufacturers don't choose layouts, airlines do. Boeing had repeatedly stated airlines can get a cabin with whatever config they want and it can fit 18" 10 abreast. The difference is, and I think it was Qatar who got into a fight with Airbus about this, Airbus won't sell seats less that 18" wide on the A380 and A350. There is also a performance reason for this as Airbus aircraft don't have the performance of their Boeing counterparts. Now I don't fly Emirates enough to care, but it is my understanding Emirates generally has two configurations for the 777-300ER, a regional version and a long haul, and the long haul has wider seats and is more comfortable. I think that's what they told me when I interviewed there a decade ago I just realized. Also, Emirates is partially funded by Dubai real-estate, just a fun fact.
I just flew emirates 777 from Dallas to Dubai and then return again, and let me tell you it's one the most uncomfortable seats out there. Both 777-300 and 777-200 are too outdated now. Specially 777-200 my tv didn't even work man.
As someone who's travelled on the 777, 787 and A380 as well as A320 (or 321), by FAR, Airbus has much more comfortable seats. As for any flight to the subcontinent... lol. This is the worst flight of my travel itinerary (because of the passengers) and I wholeheartedly feel sorry for the cabin crew. It's not a "je ne sais quoi" - it's just that the passengers can be quite a bit of a challenge (as a fellow passenger myself, and someone who lives in the region). But once you're on a flight that does not land/originate from the subcontinent, there's a MASSIVE difference (in a good way).
I recently flew a similar product on Etihad .. only the frame of the seat pocket in front was half pulled off and gave me even less legroom (im6’1tall), the food was almost inedible, the cabin aircon wasn’t working properly… oh , and this was a flight from AUH to MNL .. 10 hours on that hellhole .. the plane was so old that it still had the original Etihad livery - they hadn’t bothered to update either the outside or the inside of the plane .. I just wonder if Emirates and Etihad continue to subject paying customers to this kind of treatment, simply because they’re flying them to 2 of the less wealthy countries on their networks ? 🤔🤔.. thanks as always , Kevin .. 🙏
I've flown Emirates on many occasions but on a recent Emirates flight (777) I chose an extra legroom seat and it was horrendous. Unfortunately, the one nearest the door (My bad). The middle seat was vacant which I thought a godsend (until 30 minutes into the flight somebody with arms everywhere decided to move into it!). The galley area became a party zone with people helping themselves. My complaint was registered and acknowledged and then completely ignored.
In my life, I’ve only flown on 747, a330, a350 and 777 on a 3-3-3 layout. Lucky me I guess xd so I was just curious… what’s tighter? 3-3-3 on 787 or 3-4-3 on 777?
@ aight thanks. Now I know what to avoid 😂 I think I’ll try 787 just to tick the box. Will try JAL 787s if I can. And ofc a380s have been my goal ever since. No luck yet. My destinations and timings don’t match. Everytime I book SQ it’s always a350s and 777s on the schedules I need. My parents got to fly the sq a380 and I was so jealous 😂
@@keisuke5468SQ’s A380s now have similar Recaro economy seats to the newest A350s they have and their regional A350s and 787s. I don’t think you’d be terribly happy with that. The seat back is black plastic that seem to make the whole cabin feel very tight. They previously had light-coloured seat backs, which do a lot to brighten the cabin and make it feel more airy. Also, these new seats are THICK, great for back support, not so great for legroom and the IFE screen is literally in your face before the passenger in front reclines. Just a very tight-feeling space all round. I honestly prefer Emirates seat as they look to be using a modern SAFRAN model, that I encounter on Asiana Airlines, much more space and still comfortable enough.
10 seats in a row in a 777 is a nightmare, when I used to fly economy the 777 had 9 seats like the MD11 and Lockheed Tristar. 10 seats should only be allowed in a 747 or A380.😡😡😡😡
@@tfft thanks to remind me of those early 777-300 (no ER) before 2000. I've forgotten about them. You must be a long time traveler with 20+ years experience.
I've flown Emirates economy between Singapore and the UK many times - with and without kids. They are generally good - I'm not a fan of Dubai airport though, far prefer Doha these days. Singapore, Qatar, Emirates being my top 3 airlines - all in economy. Never flown the Japanese or Taiwanese airlines though, would love to try them out.
I personally hate the emirates economy. Especially with how strictly the enforce the paid seats for bulkheads and exits. I was welcomed on board by the cabin manager for my platinum status with Qantas and they asked if I need anything, I asked if I could move to the completely empty bulkhead and they replied with only if I pay the $90USD upgrade fee for a 6 hour flight. The bulkhead really is not much better either, I just didn't want to be crammed next to everyone.
Tbf, I love (LOVE) airlines that enforce this. I pay for a specific type of seat like 80% of the time in economy and I have no problem if my row is full, but if I paid extra to sit in that row, I think others should as well.
@@tfft I just don't believe you should pay for seats that are no different but closer to the front. If anything these are worse as you can have your feet under seats Infront of you.
If I am flying emirates economy, it has to be A380. Their 777 Economy is not worth it, no matter how good entertainment or in-flight service might be. Not sure how airlines are getting away with 3-4-3 in 777 economy in this day and age.
Emirates is very stingy in economy; and even more stingy in their 777 business class. And typically more expensive than most of the alternatives out of Dubai.
I’ve been flying in & out of DXB since 2008, and I’ve never, ever flown an EK flight for the exact reason you’ve mentioned. There are cheaper options, especially for a biz class flights. I might break the trend when the A350 routes are announced and the travel reviewers have their say.
@@get2dachoppa249 - Yup. I fly to Manila and to the US frequently. Emirates is literally double (and less comfortable) other options including Turkish, Kuwait, Qatar (on occasion), and Oman.
I totally agree about Economy class amenities like pillows and blankets. There’s no place to stash that stuff when you have carryons to consider. I end up grumbling about the flight before it even gets off the ground! 12 hours into a 14 hour flight, I see pillows strewn across the plane. My only reservation from yelling out “Yesss!” to this video is the lack of much history of Econ Class reviews on your page. Do you have other products or sources to use for comparison if you are featuring mostly Business or First Class flights?
ohh I can't wait to see the review of fly jinnah. I'm originally from Pakistan but live in North America and besides the middle eastern airlines there aren't many good options to fly there if you want decent service. And with UAE on the boycott list for supporting genocide in Sudan and Congo, i want to see what alternative airlines one can take for taking you to a hub of an airline like Qatar without having to pay the ridiculous "flying tax" govt of Pakistan has implemented. Last time I flew business to pakistan, about $1400, yes 1400 dollars was just the "tax" going to the pakistani govt. Before it was just on business class or higher but now its also on economy flights but the % of tax is far lower.
Emirates also uses crappy planes and seats for flights to Pakistan and India. I am not flying them because they treat temporary workers like crap in Dubai. So F Dubai!
It's the tightest 777 economy seat I've ever sat in and the (quite long) flight was extremely unpleasant as a result. Really made me wonder why everyone was so raving about them. The A380 was 10 times more comfortable.

That also was 9 years ago

It allows them to sell cheap ticket to price sensitive passengers. That is their only concern with this configuration.

Yes, but only soon if you consider 2026 soon 😂
@@tfft I'll consider that as time dedicated for mental preparation 😆
I just flew my first 3-4-3 777 flight last year, granted it was a 1 hour flight with ANA, so I didn’t have time to feel any real “pain”. I’d have to do a long haul flight on one to see if I have the same sentiment. Even with 3-3-3 config, I don’t find the seats any wider, just that I can squeeze past a flight attendant with the cart in the aisle.
I am always flying Emirates and I must say as a tall guy my legs do struggle in economy😂. Flew to Auckland in those seats and it was a rough flight.
Kevin are you an English teacher for ESL students in Asia??😂😂you just give off that vibe
Welcome to Pakistan.
Great content as usual.
Have a nice trip.
Thank you the video ❤ Emirates Airlines my favorite 🥰🥰
Always until the end including the ads!
I flew them for the first time in January from JFK to AMD. The DXB-AMD-DXB 777 seats were extremely tight. I’m 6’2 so I was struggling.
Hey , indigo has deployed their business class on Delhi to Mumbai flights. Any plans to cover them?
Dubai’s slogan; go BIG or go home.
I’ve never quite understood the expression “you can’t have your cake and eat it”, I mean, what’s the point of having cake and not eating it 🤷🏼♂️
Fly Muscat to Khasab on Oman Air, do a daylinght flight, you won't be disapponted (I have lived in this region 20 years)!
In my life, I’ve only flown on 747, a330, a350 and 777 on a 3-3-3 layout. Lucky me I guess xd so I was just curious… what’s tighter? 3-3-3 on 787 or 3-4-3 on 777?
777 is tighter. 777 3-4-3 are generally 16.8-17.1”, 787s are 17.3”. 777 aisles will also be narrower.
What's with the strange fog in the distance in Lahore?
10 seats in a row in a 777 is a nightmare, when I used to fly economy the 777 had 9 seats like the MD11 and Lockheed Tristar. 10 seats should only be allowed in a 747 or A380.😡😡😡😡
2:24, Dubai's first airport was actually built in November 1936 (almost 1937).
For the flying boats landing in Dubai Creek? Most wouldn’t consider that an airport per se.
Thank You ✈️
777, 787 & 737 ill avoid if they have dense configuration and wide armests
Hope you will fly the last flight of Vistara
i have flown on the b777
emirates . the middle ones are ok kind of
The MIDDLE ones? lol noooo
Sad thing is Emirates 777 still got more seat pitch than Air France or air Canada 777 - the latter which uses them for 12 - 14 hour flights!
Err Kevin, did I hear you correctly? Cebu Pac …. lol. Bless your soul in 2025 😢
I don't understand why a premium airlines like Emirates keep 3-4-3. Even all Thai Airways 777 (both 300 and 200) are 3-3-3.
Thai actually did use 3-4-3 in the mid '00s. And as for the reason... money lol.
@@tfft thanks to remind me of those early 777-300 (no ER) before 2000. I've forgotten about them. You must be a long time traveler with 20+ years experience.
you are going to fly cebu A 330 voluntarily???......oh dear!!!
I'm pretty sure emirates had 3-4-3 prior to 2005.
nice
I've flown Emirates economy between Singapore and the UK many times - with and without kids. They are generally good - I'm not a fan of Dubai airport though, far prefer Doha these days. Singapore, Qatar, Emirates being my top 3 airlines - all in economy. Never flown the Japanese or Taiwanese airlines though, would love to try them out.
Especially in Economy EVA and China Airlines would both blow them out of the water.
Now imagine how is it to fly on this same seat 14h30 to Rio. 😖
I`ve not enjoying the flight
If I am flying emirates economy, it has to be A380. Their 777 Economy is not worth it, no matter how good entertainment or in-flight service might be. Not sure how airlines are getting away with 3-4-3 in 777 economy in this day and age.
First
Thanks for watching 🩴
If you pay for leg room you struggle with waist room, if you don’t pay for leg room you suffer
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Emirates may have some negatives but I don’t get why people trash talk it sometimes.
Second
Thanks for watching 🩴
Emirates is very stingy in economy; and even more stingy in their 777 business class. And typically more expensive than most of the alternatives out of Dubai.
Agree, but was honeslty surprised how cheap this flight in particular was.
So F Dubai!
3x4x3 is disgusting!!!
Is Emirates the worst service in ecnomy company to others next time try singapore airlines
Yes, next time I'll be sure to try Singapore Airlines when flying from Dubai to Lahore... lol
@@tfft how was service like how bad was cabin crew service abd was their snacks on demand
