A route from Brazil to Japan or China via USA makes a lot of sense but the major problem is that US requires transit visa for Brazilians. JAL used to fly from Japan to SP via JFK on the 747 but as soon as US started to require visa for transit, they finished the route. The people prefer to pay more and fly via Europe or Middle East than the process to get a transit visa. We used to have also KoreanAir ICN-LAX-GRU but they stopped because of the same problem. Now we have AirChina via Madrid.
San Francisco has a huge Brazilian population that’s growing day by day, so it makes sense for there to be a direct flight between there and São Paulo in the near future.
My parents came to California from Brazil via Panama City. No need to change in São Paulo and it is a chance to stretch the legs right in the middle of the flight.
Morris Air Service started as a charter operation in 1984 but when they obtained a FAR 121 certificate, the name became Morris Air & they were a scheduled carrier with 21 Boeing 737-300s & served up to 30 cities in 10 states & Mexico. The hub was SLC.
Hey, I think you mixed Viracopos and Congonhas. Until Guarulhos Airport opened, Congonhas Airport, within São Paulo city limits, was the main airport serving São Paulo. Viracopos was a tiny airport until not too long ago.
980 dollars for a business class ticket for a flight of that duration is definitely good value for money, considering you would have paid over 1000 dollars for a business class ticket to fly on a 4hr: 30 min flight from Entebbe to Lagos! Great review and thanks for the video, Patrick.
The thing about the Brazil - Asia connection via USA is that USA requires every Brazilian even in transit to have a US visa which makes it much harder for people traveling to Asia, also there are many options connecting to Asia with less headaches like via Dubai, Europe, South Africa and so on. Also most Brazilian airlines focus on vacation destination in the US like Miami and Orlando. LATAM used to fly to Vegas and L.A before they canceled both and just recently relaunched their L.A flight. It is very difficult to maintain a US - Brazil route out of the big "Brazilian Hubs" on the east coast. Many Asian Airlines used to operate in Brazil, but they stopped operating unfortunately.
the US should give up their Visa policy for transit passengers, and yes the US has to invest in their airports to set up proper transit areas in order to avoid immigration when you are just in transit.
Really enjoy your storytelling & how you relay your journeys. Another awesome vid ✈️🌏.. Hopefully Azul will improve their business class meals & service..😁
Flying through the US is a pain, I'll never do it unless they lift their idiotic transit visa. If Azul were to launch a service to SF to connect to China and Japan it would still be useless for most people in Brazil, so I doubt they will ever do something like it.
Is San Francisco slot controlled? It could work for a South American connection if United was willing to give them the slots they need to go there. Also, not sure how expensive SFO is for other carriers as far as landing fees and such
Patrick really nice video. Never heard of this airline also never heard of the person that started AZUL up. You said same guy who started West Jet and Jet Blue right. Interesting information I got from this video thanks.
That steak looked awful. My dog would probably sniff it and walk away. As you say, the food is the only major flaw with what looks like an otherwise decent long-haul premium product.
I always had great food in Azul. The thing here is that it was not a regular filet mignon. If you read carefully, it was a Sun dried filet mignon. Sun dried meat is very popular in the northeast of Brazil, and in my opinion, does not look the best but it’s very good. So maybe he was just unaware of that, since he was expecting medium rare steak when having a sun dried steak 😂
Of all the air travel reporters I follow on UA-cam, you are the only one who has visited Brazil and flown our airlines. Thanks a million, kiddo!

Most people prefer Emirates to travel from São Paulo or Rio to Asia. Much cheaper and better quality.
hello from brazil! azul is the best airline i've ever flown! good service, smooth flights and all!
One of my favorites airlines, is great to know to see you review them, See you soon on Brazil.
Another great video!!!
Many thanks from Sao Paulo, Brasil.❤️🙏
Thanks!
Every single time i thought that i heard every pronunciation possible of the word 'pão de queijo', someone shows me a new one

I love São Paulo! Great video
Brazilian here, Congonhas was actually the main airport in sao paulo before 1985

I appreciate your work Patrick keep reporting 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Mornin’ mornin’. Wake up everyone Patrick Shea just dropped another awesome aviation vid 🤌🏽🤙🏽
Thanks for the info + video!
Breeze planes are also all blue in color 10:09
Azul translates to Blue, JetBlue has blue in the name as well guess he really likes blue.

brazillian here, i LOVE the viracopos airport! what a stunning place where i’ve been to..

Time to vicariously experience this through these videos

David also had a position with Southwest for a short time.
Good review as always. The history is interesting.
Thank you Patrick for another great business class trip report.
Best way to start my day!
I 💙 AZUL!
Funfact about Azul and David Neeleman: Azul in english is Blue, the color that maybe is David Neeleman's favourite one
Great Trip Report And Info
Cool !
Great video. How do you mess up steak like that? I mean you really need to be trying.
Flying through the US is a pain, I'll never do it unless they lift their idiotic transit visa. If Azul were to launch a service to SF to connect to China and Japan it would still be useless for most people in Brazil, so I doubt they will ever do something like it.
How many hours did you sleep on the plane?
No mattress for the seat?
There was a video on youtube with pilots of this airline complaining the company threats them when they report any failure.
Dang... I've heard of that in other places but not with Azul. Tough to hear that
Great video. Not to be pedantic, but LATAM is not Brazil’s flag carrier-there is none.
Is San Francisco slot controlled? It could work for a South American connection if United was willing to give them the slots they need to go there. Also, not sure how expensive SFO is for other carriers as far as landing fees and such
Cheapest business fares are Angolan , Avianca and TAP, Azul is not really competitive ...
Only two AMPLE descriptors. Impressive.
Patrick really nice video. Never heard of this airline also never heard of the person that started AZUL up. You said same guy who started West Jet and Jet Blue right. Interesting information I got from this video thanks.
Massive review.... but this merge of Azul and Avianaca never happened and Latam is domestic market share.
Yeah that's weird, Wamos operated by Avianca and Latam only fly to Los Angeles, but not San Francisco.
1:48 Why are my people catching strays here? 🤣🤣🤣
Keep an eye on your IPhone….😉😉😉
Brazil does not have a flag carrier nor is it a "latin american" country.
Yes we are a Latin American country lol. What the hell are you on about us not being Latino.

Always see business class lounges as promoting obesity..
B grade airline, but I guess you get what you pay for 🤷🏻♂️😅
