Nice, I have a 81 YZ 465 that's currently a basket-case project. Sadly it's one of those things I keep talking about and haven't started yet. I have too many things that all need fixing at once. The YZ is going to take some time, I want to do it right and it's going to be painted a similar color choice as Mike's 125. But I'm wanting to do it in more of a late 80's early 90's theme. Almost like a KX 500. :)
Hot Rods is 50/50. Sometimes they're great and other times the rod snaps at the piston and takes out the entire engine. Had one that lasted hundreds of hours on a big bore trx450r and still running. And another that lasted 20 hours. Always weld the crank
Did a yz125 big bore kit a few months ago and I had too port the bottom cases to clear the piston skirt it would hit at the lowest stroke and the power valve would get stuck ,so definitely Polish that rough finish

If you don’t like that color combo on the clutch covers, I would strip it and go burnt bronze Cerakote and whatever the gray is. The colors Niemela uses.
It's going to look great. I like the dark "chocolate" color. The gold I would have gone a bit brighter. I'm thinking like Honda gold, but metallic. Doesn't really matter, it's going to look badass.

Wiseco and hot rods are the same company now, and they have not alleviated the issues, rods on both of those cranks need pulled apart, checked for tolerances and then re trued, dealing with several of their cranks that have locked up with less than 5 hours
Definitely don't recommend them in a modded engine. I have tons of bad ones here and their crank bearings are even worse. I have video where I talk about oem, hotrods, weisco cranks and show the difference

Oh and hey I just dropped 1900 on a yfz450 stroker kit from BP and tried to use your code over the phone. He said he would. But then didn't. And gave me some number of "oh the price is actually going up on that kit so we charged u what it shows online" says I still "technically got the %10" but I wanted to lyk b.c. If its supposed to help u out or your sponsorship then thats kinda b.s. 1900 a big purchase u brought them lol and now the pistons on back border i guess. I tried for u bro, love all your builds man!!!

Dude for as long as I have been riding and wrenching on bikes quads I have never seen a cylinder look like that. I would call then about that most definitely. Looks like the took it out of the mold and packed it on the spot. Never seen that shit before. Well I know where I'm not but a cylinder. Lol

Those Athena kits are garbage their cast Pistons do yourself a favor throw that in the garbage and buy a wiseco piston make sure you chamfer the ports really good as it wasn't done good out of the box
If you weld that crank you’re gonna have a helluva time truing it because it’s guaranteed to get tweaked, I don’t think a YZ125 makes enough power for it to matter.
Those power valves will only work in the Big Bore cylinder it's the same if you have a cylinder overboard and replated you have to have the power valves cut to match the cylinders are garbage Athena makes garbage they make good gaskets that's about it
Hotrods crank bearings are Chinese junk. Cranks not far behind but better than weisco. I would recommend not useing the crank bearings and get koyo or ntn for it, 40$ on eBay. Goodluck 🔧🔧

I think you should smooth the cylinder out and coat it.
Dilute Muratic acid to about 1/2 a cup and the rest water. Makes aluminum look brand new. Saves a lot of time!!!!!
