Hello, I am Brazilian and I am a big fan of PORTNOY ... it really changed the way I play the drums, my influences in all directions. Congratulations Sabian for sponsoring a master of the art of playing, hugs Brazilian friend!!
So many haters for the stick tricks and the song being simple, are you all forgetting he also wrote Dance of Eternity right?
+Drumguy Lol you mean the wannabe over techincal dorks who cant even write a song like Learning to Live let alone play it? Guess what. 10 of the worlds top "modern" drummers couldn't even play dance of eternity in the audition as MP played it. Scrub.
+Drumguy Actually they did just a show. Secondly no ones ever heard of you. So nope, still a nobody just trolling.
Joe Peffer And no one has ever heard you too dumbass
Mellow Yellow why does everyone expect a rock show, I'd rather hear a laid down groove to hear the cymbals!..
that fill at 3:10 its awesome! those hats and chashes are ised in an awesome way, making the guitar solo more intense
Hugo Rezende the fill is really awsm!!!! nice to talk to you man!!!!!!
love mike. such great feel and musicality. . amazing with any kind of riff
I like Mike Portnoy more since he left Dream Theater. I thought that his style would not fit in a poppy song like this but he fits perfectly! I love all the fast little fills and accents that he throws in. This version is actually a bit more active than the CD version.
KAYLA muito boa essa musica com mike é claro..
The mix of the choirs before the solo is amazing. You can't really notice so many voices in the album version. This should be the mix of that part.
Art in motion.
Nice. The way MP composes the drum parts, I wouldn't want it to be any other way..
My god do i ever love that Freq crash!!! i definitely need it!!
They are apples and oranges. Much is made of Portnoy's departure and there are certainly a lot of naysayers.
I didn't actually start listening to DT until then. All I can really say is that Portnoy is not Mangini and Mangini is not Portnoy. I appreciate a lot of the work Portnoy has done since, Flying Colors, Winery Dogs, even Adrenaline Mob, and I enjoy DTs work immensely as well.
He is god of drummings🙂🙏
MY MENTOR HE ONLY GET'S BETTER AND BETTER AND BLESS'S US THAT A'RE STUDENT'S OF PORTNOY
This is a fantastic drummer!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you. Greatest way to explain the situation I have ever seen.
I'm diggin this song.
Love his facial expressions, reminds me of Keith Moon.
I love the main motif in this song
Kayla by Flying Colors. They are truly amazing lol
His toms sound so amazing... o_____o
The only thing that makes me NOT give a thumbs down is the cool performance from Mike!
Perfect!!!..... The Best!!!! \m/
I agree with you big time dude.
I Love SABIAN...\m/
Epic drummer....
best mike!!!
Mike Portnoy Genius !
A legend
Portnoy is a brand forever ......none can touch him....
mike rocks...sabian knows it.
wow!
MIKE THE BEST.. DRUM
Flying colors, self titled album
MASTER
His drums sounds best all time!!!!!
Kayla - Flying Colors
Nicagando compadre esto es 4/4 y 6/8, nada mas nutritivo para una buena cancion, saludos desde Chile
super:D amazing ATTITUDE
yes.
Flying Colors, one of Portnoy bands
Nice song, the voice of vocalist like elfonda mekel
ofcourse
maybe you know at what parts of the song are these signatures? I swear it has a vague 4/4 feeling, but you feel that its rhythm has something more !
FUCKING AMAZING!
Kayla by Flying Colors.
how pretty ;3
Do ppl not notice he isn't playing killer crazy because HERES A CRAZY IDEA HE ACTUALLY WANTS U TO HEAR THE CYMBALS.... If he was playing its all loud and crazy fast like usual u can't hear all the cmbals because when playing fast the cymbals interrupt and crash making it harder to hear them individually...but uk it's just a hunch
His fast chaotic style of playing would not even suit this song as it's a rock ballad.
Hey!
It's difficult to see but I'm almost sure that is't an EV RE20.
Inside of the kick, pointed straight towards the beater.
This mic is about €450 in Europe.
The RE20 is also used for radio broadcasting.
Thom Yorke of Radiohead is also a known user for his voice.
Hope this helps you!
This made me hungry
No, it's Flying Colors w/ Neal Morse also
3:10 very nice
I agree with this completely! Yes MP was a big role in the years he was in Dream Theater but, Mangini is also a bad mother fucker behind the kit. They are both good fits for the bands and each have different playing styles for the same kind of music. I love both drummers but, Mangini approaches drums in a way more technical sense which have brought Dream Theater to the next level.
Which kind of Bass-mics did you used?
7/4 and 6/8
Isn't it 4/4 and 6/4
Anyone know the time signature in the beginning? Can't seem to figure it out myself
I was thinking 7/8 followed by 4/4 but that doesnt seem correct.
im pretty sure it is 3 bars of 7/8 and 1 bar of 4/4, and he repeats this twice
Kristian André Aspevik 7/4
wat? songs pretty good wats it called?
wich ride did he use?
LOL! EXACTLY!
Are those the new Portnoy model performance enhancing sunglasses?
So sad that He does not perform like on The album :-(
oh man, i was so excited to see Portnoy's fills on the end of the song, but they cut it right after the solo ):
What record is this song Kayla from?
Which song is this?
I actually like it :P guess everybody prefers stuff over other stuff. :D
"don't need to listen to the drummer with blue beard if his play does not interest me." Yet here you are.
song's name plzzzzzz ?
is mike mangini the second youngest person in the drummer hall of fame?? i think not
It´s always be harder for MP to be off the click than on it.:-)
My issue with mangini is that his sound is to soft and doesnt lend any real punch to any of the songs dream theater has recorded so far. I also cant seem to find any real zen groove in dream theater anymore. Since portnoy left its just become all about speed speed speed. And now DT sounds like crap.
Thats exactly my opinion, The drumsound on the last two dt-albums with mangini sounds like trigger with no dynamics, snare sounds death... imo, best portnoy snare-tone is on Train of Thought, a wooden slap in your face
MrHuchsley87 lol "snare sounds death" totally agree. Mangini is a machine but that machine lacks feeling. Now it's just speed and weird ass time signatures that I find incredibly difficult to headbang to on heavy riff.
Yeah dude, can't agree more. Its hard to enjoy DT songs with headbanging now. Maybe yes, Mangini have an incredible speed, but Portnoy absolutely know how to entertain, how to make even the most difficult song looking so damn enjoyable. Ex : The dance of eternity. Plus, Portnoy know how to put some emotions on DT's previous songs. Ex : Spirit Carries On (God Blessed This Song!).
i'll start loving mangini when he'll be able to play "Constant Motion" like portnoy does !!
MrHuchsley87 That's the mix engineers fault. You can't blame that on Mangini
is this adrenilne mob?
mike does a really impressive job of not showing off the cymbals smacks are awesome
The bright AAX Crash on the right is aweful...
His power comes from his blue beard
Winery Dogs!
+KranksterOnMaui flying colors
the verse melody sounds very close to muse's unnatural selection
I wish Mike Portnoy would play more interesting parts like that guy Mike Portnoy used to.
This video is meant to show off the cymbals, and Mike does a great job of that in this song. That is all, so quit your whining.
DT hasn't been heard of much since MP left. The only reason they got nominated was because of their label roadrunner.Mangini is better technically but lacks creativity and the dynamics MP brought to DT. DT old stuff sounds so plain and empty with Mangini behind the kit.I can easily tell the difference.. But Mangini was the best replacement for DT thats for sure.DT's last album, the drums sounded mediocre, but some are saying its due to Petrucci wrote theh drum parts...Says something about u MM
what's good about it?
This "easy" song is not Portnoy´s first , and not last . Mangini definitely owns him in DT imho. Just for comparsion
lol
I liked the studio version better with a tighter choke on the hi-hat and no bass drum flams on the uh of every 2
This apple tastes better than that orange.
If someone say "play like a beast" I imagine Zbigniew Robert "Inferno" Promiński ......not Portnoy :D
Get Shawn Drover and Roy Mayorga for the next cymbal vote, but keep Portnoy
And who wants to feel free to meet my channel and my videos here on youtube, anything I add on facebook (Chapola drummer) big hugs!!
In the beginning it's 3x 7/8 and than 4/4. Nothing complicated
What the hell is that cymbal on his far left?
BOOOOOOOOORIIINNGGG!!!! :(
je penses que c'est une cymbale d'effets
What happened to the amazing DT drums?
Yeah I'm not really a fan of Portnoy but this is a really good song
crawl back to the shadow.. flame of uudun
The more I listen to something 'simple' like this, and then try listen to the new DT album, the more I miss the overall feel and groove of Portnoy. I used to think he 'overplayed', but now I truly understand what overplaying is - and I miss the overall pocket Portnoy created. This song didn't need anything more than what was presented, it's a basic light rock song.
Nah, Marco Minnemann easily outclasses Mangini as far as creativity is concerned. But it's ok, cuz if Marco had gotten into DT we wouldn't have gotten The Aristocrats.
What a great piece of drummer DT had lost..
did I hurt your feelings fan boy?
Ehh.. what??
He is the boss but, too much sizzle in Hi hats...A clear chick sound would make the song sound better and give some Idea about the hi hat...
Low skill and creativity? Are you kidding? Watch some videos of him with dream theater like stream of consciousness and you''ll definitely change your mind
