    Pork - 4 lbs
    Scallions - 3 pieces
    Garlic - 8 cloves
    Lemongrass - 3 tbsp chopped
    Shallot - 1 medium size
    Water - 5 tbsp
    Fish sauce - 2 tbsp
    Vegetarian seasoning: Veggie Taste Brand: product of Japan - 1/2 tbsp
    Black pepper - 1/2 tbsp
    Annatto powder - 1/2 tbsp
    Cooking oil - 2-3 tbsp
    Soy sauce - 1/2 tbsp
    Brown sugar - 1 1/2 Tbsp
    Honey - 1 tbsp
    Sesame oil - 1 tsp
    Oyster sauce - 1 tbsp
    Carrots - 1 stick
    Daikon - 1/3 of a stick
    Sugar - 1 tbsp
    Vinegar - 1 tbsp
    Fish sauce dip
    Fish sauce - 1/2 tbsp
    Water - 3 tbsp
    Sugar - 1 tbsp
    Lime - 1/2 tsp
    Chili - to your liking
    Garlic - to your liking

      You can go without. Up the oyster sauce by 1/2 tbsp. 🙂

    I can't wait to make this. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii. Vietnamese food is almost non-existent. I had lemongrass pork chop in San Jose, CA, and loved it. I'm determined to make my own.

    I make this all the time, but I am going to use this recipe today as it sounds amazing! Thank you! The food processor is a must! Pro Tip: Fir Fish Sauce, combine water and sugar and micro for 45 seconds! This will allow sugar to dissolve. Let cool a bit and add other ingredients! I recommend Sambal Olek chili paste!

    Hi Aimee, I only have Annetto seeds, can I blend that to powder or do you have any suggestions? Tia

      Cook the seeds in the oil just like I did with the powder. The color will come out into the oil. Drained the seeds and use only the oil.

    Aimee you are a gem! I really appreciate you sharing your skills. I absolutely love Asian cuisine. Especially Vietnamese but the restaurants around here are very mediocre. I’ve used this particular recipes soooo many times, it’s my hubby’s favorite dish. The stews, the breads…I mean everything is cooked here on a weekly basis. You are godsent! Thank you so much.

    Looks good. I personally like the little bits of burnt parts because that to me means it's really grilled and has cancer inducing properties. LOL! Your garden is looking good. I cannot believe your tomatoes are ripe already. You should team up with Khang Starr since he does a lot of outdoor and hydroponics gardening and grows all kinds of stuff. He lives in Houston.

      @@AimeesCooking You gotz to be creative, girl! He had a garden tour video earlier this week where he showed various herbs and veggies. I know I'm curious how he uses them (I know some are relatively common herbs used in Vietnamese cooking, but he has others I'm not familiar with, but I also don't have my pulse on what's cooking in the Vietnamese community, either). You cook stuff, he grows stuff...you show how to cook stuff he grows or stuff you grow that's similar. :)

    What can be used in place of Anatto powder? Maybe paprika? Also, did you mix your daikon and carrots with the chili sauce you made for the rice? I only ask because I see chili and garlic in it and not the other sauce.

      Paprika, but taste will be slightly different. Ok to avoid the annatto if color doesn’t matter to you. Yes, I mixed a little bit of the pickled carrots/daikon to the sauce before serving.
