Nicely done gents. Now I'd really like to see how well Avenger__One & GrandPhenom in Gladius' can defend against a mess of competent pilots in Hornets.
Nice. I am not sure _why_ mediums were left out in the cold like they were. Accident or not, making the Hornet more relevant can only be a good thing and a chance for CIG to actually determine if such changes improve the dynamic.
This is some unexpected good news, and hopefully CIG can learn from this for medium/heavy fighter balance. I liked the hornet before and this would really help increase its survivability. Great fight, lots to learn from it. Thanks for the video!
I really hope this bug turns into a feature and propagades to all medium fighters. They really need a leg-up and better accel always made sense for them.
Chris wants WWII style dog fighters. This just brings more of that. You have light fighters acting more like your Zero and Spitfire turn fighters so making your medium fighters fit the boom and zoom roll of things like the P-47 makes sense.
I would love the same buff to the sabre (with a bit of more maneuverability). it just makes sense with its larger profile and low durability for a medium fighter.
Man, what a great point. It is almost like they might still be determine the development of all things and they will all change for better or worse until they like where it is at.
I'm glad you put this out there and posed the question why not have something like this for medium fighters? I really did not like the hornet series until this patch and now it's one of my favorite.
I miss playing SC so much so I'm going to build up that desire to play again so then when I get back into it I wont burn out so fast. These videos are fantastic to show the state of dog fighting in this game. The feeling I got when I saw a Citcon where the dude pulled his helmet out and did a little flip with it then put it on, jumped into a hornet and flew out of a HANGAR! and into space where he then shot two hornets down. Albeit glitchy, the feeling was amazing to just watch what was coming our way. Your videos give the same vibe for me as that first demo flight. Please keep them coming.
Make use of it while you can. Expect the glitch to be nerfed at the earliest possible moment, because there’s nothing else more important to be resolved…😁
If they'd keep this that would be cool. Hornets are THE SC classic. Hope they'll get around to do something for my Sabre, too. That ship needs a LOT of love.
Great piloting. Very fun to watch. I fly the Heartseeker and I have a hard time keeping my guy from passing out, lol. Just curious if you would care to share how you have this thing set up and why? Why did you choose Badgers and Panthers? Thanks!
My personal ideals for balance would be these: - light fighters have high maneuverability and can mostly keep their nose always pointed where they want, but have low endurance; - medium fighters are less maneuverable but have high max speed and endurance. They may have a second pilot with double controls or a more limited duplicate role excluding them from piloting and guns; - heavy fighters have more health, guns and shields than the lighter fighters but have the highest profile and need a second pilot to reach their full potential, this typically being a turret with the goal to cover the fighter's lower maneuverability and slow acceleration.
Say goodbye to this with Master Modes even if they don't change the main chord accel - hit your SCM speed limit in 1.2 seconds, and the light fighter will be able to outspeed you in SCM - maybe the overspeed in boost might give you a momentary speed superiority, unclear how large and for how long. I guess it depends on how quickly they let you swap between SCM and NAV, but they have said it won't be instant.
Nice to see how things have come along. I'm getting back in game now after a long hiatus, and this sort of fighting wouldn't have even been possible due to desync and lag in the past. Little bit of desync here, but not bad, not bad at all. CIG are wizards to be able to have this smoothness on 7 fps servers with like 2-3 fps lows.
That was some great fighting, I loved it, but I hate that desync. I hate it when you are on target and dotting his eyes when all of a sudden, he disappears and shows up 300 meters off to the side.

Still balancing the fight model around medium fighters (hornet) sound like a solid plan. and very cool to see the hornet back in the fight!

I think once the update rolls out all of the ships will perform the combat roles much more better.

Main thruster buff? No, I think CIG just finally remembered to turn it on. The Hornet and Gladiator have been flying on their maneuvering thrusters alone for many years. I've been saying for quite a while that medium fighters were too close in stats to light fighters for the handling performance gap. My take was a bigger gun capacitor, another shield and more hull HP (for everything except the Hornet, which already has good HP), but boy does this work wonders! I think it points out three major things, though: 1) combat remains an "Applied DPS Race", just now it's about pip wiggle instead of shield tanking 2) the flight model archetypes are a failure and destroyed all the years of granular balancing of speed and handling characteristics around ship role and other stats 3) acceleration (including both main and strafing acceleration) matters a lot more for ship agility than turn rate stats do. I'd have thought v2.5 would have proven that to everyone, but years of "Arrow UP" over a 3° turn rate stat shows otherwise... It probably would be controversial as all hell, but I really think sometimes the game would be better without shields. There'd be less incentive to try to duck in and out of combat range constantly and a better opportunity to actually balance the ship firepower, armor, and agility characteristics than there is with the weirdness of regenerating HP. If shields were less of a big deal (particularly on small fighters), lots of other aspects of combat might get better.
I like this fact. I heard that the Golden Child [Gladius] in current wave PTU AC mode gets Fwd/Rear shield like med size shields away from the Light/small "Bubble" shield. 🤦♂🤷
I tried PvE in my Heartseeker (Super Hornet skinned variant) and acquired a Ghost and configured it similar. its not 'a bit fragile' it will conk out seemingly randomly taking a huge chunk of your DPS with it. Better to go with admittedly less but stable DPS .
I've only found the nose turret to get buggy in PvP weirdly. The hornet is one of the few ships where going all gimbals is viable, Hawk and Tana being the others, so using a non-buggy nose turret would be welcome.
@@demonicsquid7217 Buccaneer works as well fully gimbaled… It’s just the Hornet nose turret is ugly on all Hornets except the white Super Hornet and Heartseeker. It's a good change for now, certainly, but I'd just rather see these medium fighters have way more armor and fire power (and operational range) instead of pulling more g's than the light fighters in any direction.
IMO its not just weapons, but armor that medium fighters have. They are NOT (from my understanding) supposed to be the all around superiority fighter between light/med/heavy. The general order of superiority SHOULD function loosely like: light fighter > heavy fighter > large ship > light fighter. Medium fighters are a COMPROMISE between light and heavy. A bit slower, a bit tankier, a bit more damage potential and missiles, BUT still quicker than a heavy fighter. IMO it was a BIG mistake way back when CIG buffed the gladius's hard points and started giving every light fighter s3 hadrpoints. I feel their current fix of not sizing down for gimbals was the rout they should have taken way back. I feel like s3 cannons could have been an armor gate CIG used to differentiate light fighters from med/heavy. s2 cannons could pen med/heavy fighters, but 3s cannons were ideal to break through large ship armor, and s4 for cap ships.
Honestly I think the community should vote to leave this change how it is and let CIG know because it feels so fun to fly in. The ghost is pretty much my flag ship since 2015 so I pray they consider keeping this how it is.
Missiles...they need to make S2/S3 missiles lethal and difficult to shake. That is what should distinguish the medium fighter. As the F4 obsoleted the F8 the medium fighter should excel in payload by carrying these nasty missiles that the light fighter airframes can't or can only carry two of. Then as a follow on to this is the heavy fighter filling its traditional role of long-range patrol and escort, able to carry the payload over a long distance and loiter for independent patrol.
@@ghostlight_tv so far the damage output of the ion cannon.... I have killed about 30 ships with it in the last day. if they keep this accel with master mode, the hornet being able to zip around with boost significantly faster than anyone else could be really powerful, but turn rate could matter more at low speed, who knows how itll play out, but i cant wait to see it
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the hornet. It's a cool medium fighter, but I hate its current look. I would love if they updated the current Hornets to the tier 2 version of the F7A
The hornet and the ares inferno are my two favorite combat ships in the game. They may not be the best, but the curb appeal is too high for me to use anything else.
I really hope CIG considers not nerfing it back into the ground again. CIG should also consider a similar buff to the Sabre. If they think it is too OP, maybe a very gentle nudge down at most. Having the ability to engage and disengage has made the Hornet enjoyable to fly again, and I think makes it somewhat relevant again. I wouldn't call it the meta, what I saw in the video was teamwork winning the fight, and not a grossly OP Hornet.
One small step for the hornet, one giant step for medium fighters!

Then as a follow on to this is the heavy fighter filling its traditional role of long-range patrol and escort, able to carry the payload over a long distance and loiter for independent patrol.
Does this boost also apply to the two seats version ?
The ion got a shadow buff as well btw it feels so much better and the damage output feels so much better ad well
What’s the buff to the ion?! The Ares ships are my favorite even though they’re not in a great place.
@@ghostlight_tv so far the damage output of the ion cannon.... I have killed about 30 ships with it in the last day. And it is 2-3 shot on a cutty , 10-15 shots on a reclaimer if you land the shots where they need to go.
M50 is 1-3 shots
It's definitely not what it was back when the ares launched. But it's in a really good place right now.
I had two of my buddies grab theirs and go try bounties in them and they both said the same thing. It seems like it got a buff.
@@JuanBrolo hmmm I’ve been using the ion every patch since 3.17 and it doesn’t feel any different to me. Maybe it’s a small change and I just didn’t notice since I already use it.
@@ghostlight_tv could be I'm not sure. I've been using it for a while and this recent patch it feels better to us
Huh. Have to think on the physics there. That poor guy in the wildfire was way under-experienced. Gladius fight was nice
if they keep this accel with master mode, the hornet being able to zip around with boost significantly faster than anyone else could be really powerful, but turn rate could matter more at low speed, who knows how itll play out, but i cant wait to see it
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the hornet. It's a cool medium fighter, but I hate its current look. I would love if they updated the current Hornets to the tier 2 version of the F7A
Cool video!
Finally!!! ❤❤❤❤
they might be testing the San'tok.yāi's capabilities with the Hornet(speculation)
The hornet and the ares inferno are my two favorite combat ships in the game. They may not be the best, but the curb appeal is too high for me to use anything else.
Any good suggestions for EU based orgs that teach how to fly pvp?
I really hope CIG considers not nerfing it back into the ground again. CIG should also consider a similar buff to the Sabre. If they think it is too OP, maybe a very gentle nudge down at most. Having the ability to engage and disengage has made the Hornet enjoyable to fly again, and I think makes it somewhat relevant again. I wouldn't call it the meta, what I saw in the video was teamwork winning the fight, and not a grossly OP Hornet.
What will the Sabre get?
Great, now let's see that with F7A turrets.
