really feel like the redeemer has been shit on, it has nothing anymore really. to get most of the potential you need 2 pilots and even then you would probably lose against this monster. if i think about a gunboat like the redeemer i think of a ship that you NEED to stay out of fire range of because an arrow should have like 6 seconds to live in front of a redeemer, the tactic for small ships should have to be to sneak into close combat and outmanuever it, unless you have 2 comrades which cover the dead spaces you cannot cover as a single pilot. thats in my mind its weakness as single seater that even the smallest ship can get you because you have too much deadspots and against like 3 heavy fighters the redeemer should simply have the highest front boost because of its nutcrackers which are INSANE boosts forward its a real get in and let hell rain ship. instead its fire power is at best that of a usual medium fighter while its tankyness is about that of a heavy and its manuevarability is that of a capital shit aswell as its footprint being waaay too big for how little its shiels are. theres no world in which the redeemer would be picked above another ship by any means, if you have 3 f8c you are better then a 3 people redeemr at any job BY MILES! ships are so horribly designed in star citizen, if you overbalance and dont allow for niche then nothing is balanced.
@@dragofire5063 Might have some reason to equip at least a few ballistics. The bespoke mini-turrets also encourage downsizing to size 2 while _increasing_ damage. I'm thinking replacing the standard size 3 hardpoints with 2x size 2 gimbaled, make that 8 gimbaled size 2 lasers in total, and 2 size 1 gimbaled ballistics on the outer pylons. That'll decrease damage throughput, but the gimbals _do_ work on smaller ships. Would also give the F8 a dedicated anti-fighter role while leaving bigger prey to teammates.
@JoshSweetvale no such thing as gimbal mounted anymore. Weapons all will be coming with default mount that has gimbal/fixed mode, gimbal will increase hits on target, but with reduced rof. Only despoke weapons and specific fixed mounted weapons are the exception.
I was just about to coment that, the way Jared rate limited him constantly and stuck to his a$$ staying agresive is a damn master class about how to use the arrow; Agresive, pushy and a pain in the butt to anyone who does not know how to "get creative" and make space. Really nice flying there.
As a cargo / salvage pilot with almost no interest in PvP / PvE, I'm more than happy to let y'all duke it out for this one over the next week. Hopefully Brio's will be a more peaceful place for a while haha

I think I'd give the theoretical edge to the scorp. Just because turrets have vastly larger mags, should have the ability to be on target 100% of the time, and could keep the F8 from recharging shields. Also it has twice as many missiles, which doesn't mean much now, but might later depending on their finished state.
yeah never udnerstood why small fighters are supposed to be so strong, they shouldnt be, they already are invaluable by being small and manueverable probably having tiny footprints and able to get in closer and personal before the other ships targeting can even get into effect. yet you can barely hit em and they easyli hit you with more firepower then its healthy or rather a ship with big shields has no meaning its a just a damage sponge. star citizen does all the wrong design philosophys with ship combat and im so so sad about it.
It will get nerfed. It has to, because there are many ships that are space superiority fighters; that is what a fighter ship is. The game has to stay balanced. If one fighter is better than the rest, then none of the other fighters will ever be used so they all get pointless. All the dev time that went in to make them will be wasted. That will also remove any advantage for the Lightning, because everyone flies it, but the now game is boring because everyone flies the same fighter.
@@sc_cintara That's not, and there aren't "Many space superiority fighters" The purpose of a "Superiority fighter" is specifically to kill other fighters. It does its job, and it does it as expected. It isn't meant to be a competitor with light fighters, it's intended to be a counter.

That arrow fight was something else. Makes me think that perhaps the F8C isn't as overpowered as it might look on paper. Granted it's still 2v1 but 2 decent light fighters being able to take on a heavy fighter makes sense in my head, and there's NO way if there were two Jaredd's against you that you'd come out on top, or at least one of them would have had to make a huge mistake early on.
it's not and i wouldn't be surprised if there is a small nerf to its rolls, they just launched 3.21 so the bug with the bubble shield is gone and its back to front back facing like its supposed to be. It's a strong fighter its designed for superiority against other fighters, something like the f16 being very dominant in its capabilities even against a 35 and 22 granted its because they have to limit both the 35 and 22 otherwise the 16 cant compete. Honestly this is more like a yf-23 the other option over the 22 that barley lost and may end up coming back in a way for 6th gen, minus the fact the f8 doesnt have stealth.
I've been a backer for star citizen since 2015 and sometimes it's tough to keep up on all the ship names and what they look like, mostly because I go play other games here and there and come back to half a dozen new ships every few patches, so a picture to a name would help me as well.
The whole reason why the F8 came out? The F7 was getting stomped by heavier Vanduul fighters and the Gladius is really getting long in the tooth and the Navy doesn't want to keep spending credits to get new upgrade blocs for the Gladius(It's the whole reason why they're literally being dumped on the market). I suspect the F8A(The one that most people will get a taste of,in Squadron,then use their voucher to buy in verse) will really be a solid fighter. OP? Probably not. Is it unbeatable? No. But i do think it'll probably get a few balance passes,namely that roll will get adjusted most likely. But with it being a carrier fighter,like the Arrow,Hornet and Gladius,I think it makes a nice progression. When armor becomes more relevant I think the F8 will be more or less in a good spot. It won't be an instant win against crewed larger ships(thanks to armor pen) but it'll be a good fighter muncher.
I just managed to unlock it to buy it. I found the golden voucher on a nine tails body in a bunker mission. Make sure you check the pants and all armor pieces they are wearing.
From the perspective of single fighter balance and ship balance in general, I think it's appropriate to have some ships be "overpowered." The reason for this is that each ship takes up space and resources to use. If a ship carrier has to choose, 1 F8C Lightning or 2 Arrows, suddenly the F8C stops being so "overpowered."

problem with the scorp is its not tanky at all and roughly half the damage is in a turret so you really need a good pilot and gunner working together. The scorp has a better roll and some other benefits over the f8 but its definitely not as tanky once you get through its shields.

I am surprised you didn’t call it overpowered. You never took any hull damage and you were out-turning a ship in a lower weight class. Most of the heavy fighters are 2 person ships so the added offense and durability is balanced by the fact they need a extra crew member, but this ship looks like it would slap a hurricane or scorpius around with very little trouble.
It's a higher tier single seater, like an end game ship. It is better than many others but on par with a few, depending on the mission. Progression in a game like this means there are bigger, more expensive, and 'better' ships to aim for. Not every fighter should be equivalent.
Been testing the F8, both variants. This is the very first time I have flown a ship that DOES NOT need any major alterations to its flight model outside of flight control surface tweaks when it has those added. This is the FIRST TIME in Star Citizen where I have flown a ship that I actually FELT like... i.e. had a FEELING of flying. CIG should NOT, NOT nerf the F8 but use it as the template to balance all other fighters against. The Superhornet is one that should be close to the F8 in capability as a heavy fighter, possibly a couple others, but the F8 should be the top dog overall in the right persons hands, yet that same person should be able to outfly the F8 against those flying it who are not such good pilots. While the F8 has NOT had its gold pass, I hope CIG pays attention and does everything they can to keep the F8 as nice as it is now to fly. The roll and turn rates are right on and give the ship a feeling of power in both flight and combat. As we see in the video, other fighters have other advantages over the F8, while the F8 excels in its own abilities. All that being said, Vanduul and other species MUST have a ship that meets or possibly exceeds the F8 in combat so that we have a good challenge and have to use the F8's advantages to defeat Vanduul and other enemies (both SC and SQ based)
Ship looks awesome! And the survivability seems decent. I am sceptical about the weapons tho... Once armor is in the game, i doubt the 6x S2 would just bearly scratch a medium ship :/
It would be very strange if a heavy fighter could not damage a medium ship. I think you may be expecting too much of the mythical armor they've been talking about forever
do you really think that when armor and physicalized damage comes in that the damage values of weapons aren't going to rebalanced? if that were the case all light fighters would be useless
@@stratvidsI mean, based on what I've read the devs say throughout the years, light weapons will be ineffective at penetrating medium to heavy armor, however they will excel at taking out exposed components like turrets, thrusters and so on. Gone will be the days where an arrow can singlehandedly take out a connie, maybe disable but not utterly destroy.
This ship isn't really a big ship hunter. It's meant to take out things in the same size class as itself unlike the hurricane and vanguard. Think the only ship sort of in the same class as the scorpius with a blade.
This ship has been my favorite concept fighter for a while. A friend of mine hopped in looking for the redeemables and ended up in your server, seems he made it in the video!
most content creators i've seen so far just show the quest to get the golden ticket, then they just fly it around a bit to look at it...thanks for actually putting it into action!!

Love my anvil Arrow, solo pirate and vanduul swarms were a blast and bounty hunting is great fun... this will be amazing!!! I am however sad that it is not like a special unlock for completing SQ42, though i can see that if that was the case it would be "untested" publicly for a the most part... so for "testing" I can accept this, but truly, it should have been hidden behind some accomplishment in SQ42.
Pretty cool ship but I'll probably just wait to earn mine. Got plenty of fighters as it is and when I fly fighters I prefer bringing my SO with me in our Scorpius.
I hope they keep the fact that its a modern fighter by SC standards in front of the Nerf bat. Its supposed be state of art compared to some of our 300-year-old ships. with that out of the way, how long before CIG goes after the agility or does something to the ECP after the sales have dried up? Sorry to be so cynical but if it isn't a Gladius it has been wack a mole on other ships with said Nerf bat.

Ship is live to anyone with a catch. You have to get a gold ticket which are fairly common in loot crates and mission npcs and interact with a rental ship kiosk. It auto rents you one for 24 hours and unlocks buying one on the website until 11/7 iirc, but the cards only drop the next few days. It's like ~260 lti warbond or 300 with store credit and 6mo insurance, no CCUs. The platinum card is a free LTI ship outright, but you have the kill the dev that's flying a dev F8 and get it back to a kiosk while the whole server hunts you that wants it. The star map and HUD markers show where the plat ticket is at all times when active. Server I was on it was 3 hours of slaughter and piracy until someone got it back to a kiosk alive. It's a lootable physical metal card. The gold ones people leave them around random places because they find a bunch.
If this is using it at level 10 I am at lvl 1 but I totally feel the same. When things look easy like the fight vs the Arrow you know it is not. That was fun to watch
My favorite part of Star Citizen is that these fights still *mostly* come down to skill. A person who spent $45 on the game and becomes an amazing Arrow pilot can still beat someone who spends $300 on this ship (unless they are also an Ace pilot)
Would love to see more of this in arena commander because I doubt anyone in the ptu is rly going to want to take this on in a 1v1 so good luck crashing events because y’all don’t get invited to them
I don't like this jerk, but as a rookie pilot I THINK he knows what he's talking about, so I was eagerly awaiting for this video, because opinions on the ship range all the way from OP to bad. My personal opinion is that it looks and feels really nice.
I like the 8 guns because it does give you a variety of ways to outfit the ship. I know the majority of people will just be boring and mount 8 laser repeaters on it, but maybe someone will try something else. Probably a couple distortions. And less commonly ballistics.
I quite like going gimballed with quad S2 laser repeaters and dual S2 and dual s1 distortions. Another loadout I like is 4 S2 laser cannons and the rest being ballistic cannons
@@gyratingwolpertiger6851 just for fun I gimbaled all of them. 4 NN-14s and 4 distortion cannons on the wings. And when I went to try it the NPC immediately rammed me and I died. 🤷

im somewhat upset you couldnt upgrade to f8c, I didnt have 260 to throw at it and wanted to just upgrade to it with my harbinger that had lti because I dont really use the harbinger anyway but I ended up having to melt it so eventually I will need to buy back the misc razor with lti that the harbinger originally was

It's a higher tier single seater, like an end game ship. It is better than many others but on par with a few, depending on the mission. Progression in a game like this means there are bigger, more expensive, and 'better' ships to aim for. Not every fighter should be equivalent.
Been testing the F8, both variants. This is the very first time I have flown a ship that DOES NOT need any major alterations to its flight model outside of flight control surface tweaks when it has those added. This is the FIRST TIME in Star Citizen where I have flown a ship that I actually FELT like... i.e. had a FEELING of flying. CIG should NOT, NOT nerf the F8 but use it as the template to balance all other fighters against. The Superhornet is one that should be close to the F8 in capability as a heavy fighter, possibly a couple others, but the F8 should be the top dog overall in the right persons hands, yet that same person should be able to outfly the F8 against those flying it who are not such good pilots. While the F8 has NOT had its gold pass, I hope CIG pays attention and does everything they can to keep the F8 as nice as it is now to fly. The roll and turn rates are right on and give the ship a feeling of power in both flight and combat. As we see in the video, other fighters have other advantages over the F8, while the F8 excels in its own abilities. All that being said, Vanduul and other species MUST have a ship that meets or possibly exceeds the F8 in combat so that we have a good challenge and have to use the F8's advantages to defeat Vanduul and other enemies (both SC and SQ based)
Ship looks awesome! And the survivability seems decent. I am sceptical about the weapons tho... Once armor is in the game, i doubt the 6x S2 would just bearly scratch a medium ship :/
It would be very strange if a heavy fighter could not damage a medium ship. I think you may be expecting too much of the mythical armor they've been talking about forever
do you really think that when armor and physicalized damage comes in that the damage values of weapons aren't going to rebalanced? if that were the case all light fighters would be useless
@@stratvidsI mean, based on what I've read the devs say throughout the years, light weapons will be ineffective at penetrating medium to heavy armor, however they will excel at taking out exposed components like turrets, thrusters and so on. Gone will be the days where an arrow can singlehandedly take out a connie, maybe disable but not utterly destroy.
This ship isn't really a big ship hunter. It's meant to take out things in the same size class as itself unlike the hurricane and vanguard. Think the only ship sort of in the same class as the scorpius with a blade.
no idea how those guys can do that with an arrow, I use to duy after take 1st shoot, the guy took a lot of damage and put up hell of a fight

All weapons hardpoints are S2 on the civilian version, on the military.... they are S3... Oo
2x s3 and rest s2. The F8A is 2x s4 and rest s3.
Like the f7a is 2x s4, 2x s3 and 2x s2
the "C" versions of all anvils are civilians yes, as on all the hornets.

With the shields, HP, and 8 guns most of your opponents are essentially fighting two (3?) fighters worth of those things.
Love my anvil Arrow, solo pirate and vanduul swarms were a blast and bounty hunting is great fun... this will be amazing!!!
I am however sad that it is not like a special unlock for completing SQ42, though i can see that if that was the case it would be "untested" publicly for a the most part... so for "testing" I can accept this, but truly, it should have been hidden behind some accomplishment in SQ42.

Pretty cool ship but I'll probably just wait to earn mine. Got plenty of fighters as it is and when I fly fighters I prefer bringing my SO with me in our Scorpius.

I hope they keep the fact that its a modern fighter by SC standards in front of the Nerf bat. Its supposed be state of art compared to some of our 300-year-old ships. with that out of the way, how long before CIG goes after the agility or does something to the ECP after the sales have dried up? Sorry to be so cynical but if it isn't a Gladius it has been wack a mole on other ships with said Nerf bat.

Ship is live to anyone with a catch. You have to get a gold ticket which are fairly common in loot crates and mission npcs and interact with a rental ship kiosk. It auto rents you one for 24 hours and unlocks buying one on the website until 11/7 iirc, but the cards only drop the next few days. It's like ~260 lti warbond or 300 with store credit and 6mo insurance, no CCUs. The platinum card is a free LTI ship outright, but you have the kill the dev that's flying a dev F8 and get it back to a kiosk while the whole server hunts you that wants it. The star map and HUD markers show where the plat ticket is at all times when active. Server I was on it was 3 hours of slaughter and piracy until someone got it back to a kiosk alive. It's a lootable physical metal card. The gold ones people leave them around random places because they find a bunch.

How, been stealing these in game for months now.
My favorite part of Star Citizen is that these fights still *mostly* come down to skill. A person who spent $45 on the game and becomes an amazing Arrow pilot can still beat someone who spends $300 on this ship (unless they are also an Ace pilot)

I like the 8 guns because it does give you a variety of ways to outfit the ship. I know the majority of people will just be boring and mount 8 laser repeaters on it, but maybe someone will try something else. Probably a couple distortions. And less commonly ballistics.
I quite like going gimballed with quad S2 laser repeaters and dual S2 and dual s1 distortions.
Another loadout I like is 4 S2 laser cannons and the rest being ballistic cannons

4 NN-14s and 4 distortion cannons on the wings. And when I went to try it the NPC immediately rammed me and I died. 🤷

Looks like a competent light fighter will still be able to kill a F8C in Master Modes where resetting the fight is much harder.
Would have loved to see a match up against the Khartu-Al, seeing as the Khartu-Al has significantly better manoeuvrability. Anyhow, great vid!

im somewhat upset you couldnt upgrade to f8c, I didnt have 260 to throw at it and wanted to just upgrade to it with my harbinger that had lti because I dont really use the harbinger anyway but I ended up having to melt it so eventually I will need to buy back the misc razor with lti that the harbinger originally was
