Brother I just want to say this is not only an incredibly well made video, production value, info, everything… you’ve now got a new sub 😎
Hey thanks, Just trying to get to your level!
The OTT guys are wizards!!
Ha ha I was waiting for someone to mention that!
People who think its slow have to calculate that this was over 4300 ft of sealevel. To compare, an NA 3.5 V6 is going to be even slower in the mid high 9s 0-60. At sea level this would be closer to high 6s 0-60
Interested in seeing the hybrid results
Can you share fuel economy? Did fuel mileage improve or got worse?
I haven’t noticed any major differences but fuel economy isn't going to improve with a performance calibration. The improved spool characteristics, improved throttle response, and 30+hp/ft-lbs of torque increase all require additional fuel due to additional air being moved through the engine.
I find my 2025 gas only pretty hard on gas! That being said it is fast! Still love my 2010 beater Honda civic thought can't beat millage with it!
At sea level that truck will be in the low 6s to 60. Awesome
With his tires and launch, no chance, power loss is generally 1.5% on a turbo and 3% on N/A for every 1000 feet of altitude/elevation gained. He is only at 4300 ft (6-7% power loss, about 20 hp).
20 HP gain isn't going to cut 1.5 to 2 seconds off of a 60. If you want a fast truck, buy a Rivian, cybertruck, or not a truck lol
@ I appreciate all your calculations, but I don’t fully agree. You have to take in consideration that the ecm no longer has any torque managing limitation with the tune. That alone with no hp gain will cause the truck to be faster. With all that being said People aren’t racing these trucks they just want a more responsive enjoyable ride.
Any change in your fuel economy? Also does this void warranty?
I haven’t noticed any big changes but fuel economy isn't going to improve with a performance calibration. The improved spool characteristics, improved throttle response, and 30+hp/ft-lbs of torque increase all require additional fuel due to additional air being moved through the engine.
Any aftermarket part or modification added to a vehicle can affect the warranty. ECU tuning is no different. There have been no issues or reports of warranty problems with OTT Tunes. If you are concerned about your vehicle's warranty, they suggest you do not modify your vehicle.
I wonder if this will affect the longevity of the engine.
Do 1/4 mile runs. My stock 2024 Tacoma ran 15.84 @ 87 MPH at the dragstrip.
What’s the elevation where you’re at?
@ Sea level in Hawaii. Try and get an actual 1/4 mile timeslip from the dragstrip. I’m the only 2024 Tacoma that i see online with actual 1/4 mile timeslips, not Draggy or GPS data thanks.
Toyota claims that BHP is 278. Test truck 277 BHP, or 236 WHP (15% loss) 250 WHP (10% loss). The graph shows that 10% driveline losses are assumed. Torque is higher than OEM which is interesting.
Regardless a 30 HP gain and 30 ft lbs whether it be reported at the wheel or the crank is noticeable with ones personal butt dyno. Curious what is the boost to attain these increases?
Any thoughts from OTT on doing the increased output on the 6 speed? From the
said they detuned it to handle the drivetrain shock... But if you're not whaling on it, could that output be acceptable when purely accelerating in gear?
@@DustinJJacobson hmm I have not heard that reason before. OTT will offer a tune to bring the manuals up to the output of the higher trims.
But will they be limited to that tune or can they go for the Stage 1 as well? I have a TRD Sport but it's a manual. Does that mean I can only get the OEM tune?
@ Great question, I don't know the answer to that. I would recommend reaching out to your local OTT tuner and asking him to find out for you. There is a link in the video description on how to find your local tuner if you don't already know.
@MuscleAmerican thank-you for the prompt reply!
I have a manual as well and have spoken to my tuner about this and there isn't clear direction on the manual yet. But I do feel as though your understanding of the manuals isn't correct. I have a trd offroad manual and it doesn't have the same powertrain as an sr trim it has the same as your truck. Toyota detuned them by 8hp/tq due to a drivetrain shutter in the clutch. This is what the other commentor was mentioning. But stating ott would bring them up to other trims leads people to think all manuals have the sr powertrain which is false. My tuner did say ott doesn't have plans of supporting manuals but if I brought my truck in for a scan he could request support. Maybe your tuner knows more update info since I've spoken with mine a few weeks ago.
I did a cursory search for a installer in Socal and their website does not offer that particular tune option yet for the 4th Gen Tacoma? Does it take a while to roll the code out?
@@c762x39 This tune is very new and should be available in 2-3 weeks. Check in with your local tuner and they can give a definite date.
New to the channel. Do you have any other mods? I saw that an exhaust and down pipes really helps too.
My “performance” mods would be a trial exhaust, and SXTH Element air intake.
You should do a comparison with the Jb4
Any plug in device or chip is the same as stepping on the pedal harder. Fools gold. Go with OTT.
Does installing the tune void the factory warranty?
yes.
Will they noticed if I return to the factory tune before arriving at the dealership?
Any aftermarket part or modification added to a vehicle can affect the warranty. ECU tuning is no different. According to OTT there have been no issues or reports of warranty problems across multiple platforms they tune with the number of tuned vehicles into the 10's of thousands to date. If you are concerned about your vehicle's warranty, they suggest you do not modify your vehicle.
@christiancarrasquillo7580 yes they can. With modern cars they basically have a black box that records everything like how fast you drive, rpm etc. Remember the whole TFL 4th gen tacoma failure debacle? Yeah, so if you blow up your engine/drivetrain they will look for a tune as part of the inspection to deny your ass.
Thank you for your response.
Is the throttle response comparable to tow haul mode?
Curious to see how this will work with warranty and the torque converter issues. Lots of unknowns right now…
Torque converter issues? I thought Toyota had it narrowed down by vin on which transmissions were bad? I also thought they were failing due to dirt durning assembly? I have a late model 24’ and it’s been fine.
@ there’s a surprisingly high number of torque converter failures, which Toyota has issued a recall for. Which is to be expected with any brand new generation of vehicle.
@@AviatorsGarage recall? I haven’t got or seen anything on a recall. When was this recall issued? Only thing I found or know of is a TSB on a select number of first run Tacoma’s and that goes by if your vin number falls into that group.
@ that’s a recall lol
@@AviatorsGarage a TSB is not a recall.. better look that one up. TSB and Recall are two different things.
Wonder if Cobb is gonna come out with a kit with an accessory and intercooler
Cobb or some other company needs to come out with a plug and play programmer. So you can recieve tunes or send data logs online to the tuner. Its an inconvenience to have to meet up just to get the overland tune. If you get a intake and catback exhaust you'll need it retuned. For $650 IMO doesn't seem worth it. Stock the new tacoma has plenty of power. Also Dyno jet dyno are always way exaggerated on on hp numbers. Its really like 10-15whp if we are lucky.
How much does it cost
MSRP is $650 but you should contact your local retailer for specifics.
@@MuscleAmerican OMG...
Voids warranty unfortunately.
I'd be comfortable doing this to a 3rd gen, but the 4th gen has so many issues as is that I wouldn't further complicate it.
How long does the tune last before you have to re-tune again?
It doesn’t expire. I could run this tune the whole life of the truck.
My tacoma trail hunter is still faster that's pretty slow it's not worth the tune
This is at 4300 ft in elevation. It would be quicker closer to sea level.
@MuscleAmerican okay
I would hope it’s faster you have about 30 more horse power and 100 more ft-lb of torque.
Trail Hunter is a different setup. Those are hybrids so of course they’ll be different. That was explained in the video.
@@mattheinbaugh46 I did a 0-60 in the pro and it isn’t any faster. It weighs a lot more. Check out my other video on it.
Does it mess with the resale value of the car?
@@Truth30555 no, you can always go back to the factory setting if you want.
Yes. And any warranty claims can be denied by Toyota because you screwed with the engine.
