For people who don't have steaming capability or don't want to buy equipment to do it, look up "shen jian bao", a Shanghai staple where they cook the buns by putting them directly in a pan on the stove, brown the bottoms, and then add water to steam. You get a crispy bottom to contrast with the soft steamed top. People who don't want any crispy can basically just add water immediately. You'll probably still get a little bit of browning, but you can control the texture (and the crispy goes away after refrigeration anyways). The advantage to pure steaming with the baskets is basically just that people could stack them to steam many buns at a time efficiently, but that's not so much a concern for the home cook just making 1-2 servings at a time.
next time you need to proof dough in a cold kitchen pop it into the oven with just the oven light on, it will get nice and warm in there without getting hot enough to damage the dough.
Him at 11:08: granted each skewer should get three or five for luck. Me with my Chinese heritage: and you gave them the number of death. Him at 15:25: I want to try for 7. Me: that’s an unlucky number. associated with death. Like dude are you trying to curse them?😂 Or is this your version of foreshadowing? 🤔 Also, the food looks so tasty. It’s a pity I’m too lazy to make it. 😅
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it is Japanese and I don’t think it’s the same in Japan. But I could be wrong. It was just my initial reaction. And I thought it was funny, so I commented it. Even though it has pretty much has no relevance. After all, it is a different culture.
I definitely would like to see a recipe from the indie game Dave the Diver. Surely, a few of those recipes are not impossible. I've never seen a cooking video making a dish from the game. I might just do a video myself if i had the equipment in both cooking the food and making the video.
Chef-San demonstrates it here but doesn't really make mention of it. Top tip for baking with yeast is to keep the salt separate from the yeast and sugar for as long as possible, because the salt will kill the yeast and you will get very little leavening if any.
One little tip for forming nice little balls (from a play-doh perspective, not a culinary one haha) is to cup your hands instead of holding them flat while you're rolling them.
I see we think the same. I did just that yesterday. Mitarashi dango is next. I didn't get into this one yet 😄 I'll try it your way next time, I not that skilled but it was edible at least xD
🤔🤔🤔🤔 Was just thinking, what's your best kitchen set (pots and pans) set that you purchased ???? And you being a world class chef🤩🤩🤩 why's haven't any kitchen ware companies given you support ????
After you mentioned potato mochi I just went, "Potato mochi hits the spot after fighting God and his children, and leaving them in a nice ranch, to try and convince God to send Train man home"
I highly doubt anyone cares but whats up with the wood clap above the fridge ? gotta say been watching on and off so I may be lost... but anyways amazing content as all ways and thank you for creating and sharing this with us

Went to Japn, had flat dongo, didn't realize it was dango, and now I really need to recreate it. Thank you for the recipe ❤
now scrolling down... why is your sugar in a carton?
It's castor sugar, a very fine sugar used for baking. No idea why it's in a carton lol
@@CHEFPKRbeing in a carton can help it from being squished like if it were in a bag. I think it also is tradition, but I'm not sure on that one
@@CHEFPKR probably doesnt help being from aus. lol thanks for the reply. love your work chef
Do I spot a fellow Aussie?
@@mercury_117 nah yeh

isnt the show made and staged in Japan? sorry if I’m wrong or it’s the same in the Japan or something I was just a little confused-

“Each skewer should get 3 or 5 for luck” (proceeds to put 4, the unluckiest number)
I don't need luck.
