Not eating the crust is a nod to medieval crusts (shoutout to Tasting History). Back then, it was merely a way to cook and eat the filling. They didn't think of creating a dish with edible crust, so the crust was hard and unseasoned. These recipes would be found in the houses of nobility and churches (sometimes you can't tell the difference) because of the presence of eggs. Both the houses of nobility and churches often had chicken coops. Eggs didn't count as meat, so it wouldn't violate the rules of Lent. Pretty much all Western custard recipes could be traced to churches. There's a reason why there are a lot of fat friars in media.
@@Salt-Upon-Woundss Nah, not true. The stereotype we have of medieval poor people not having enough to eat is mostly false. Most years, people had more food than they could actually eat, and wouldn't think anything of discarding some unflavored crusts or giving them to dogs. Well.. if they'd have something like a dutch oven they could bake with just a fireplace. You wait until you get a nice hot bed of coal and set the dutch oven in it, then scoop hot coals onto the lid. That's why the lids of dutch ovens traditionally have some kind of design feature like concentric ridges, a bowl-like shape or are completely flat.
It makes sense that Senshi said not to eat the pepper and why the peeling method was wrong. Japanese folk tend to dislike the flavor of bell peppers, and therefore tend to be very inexperienced with cooking them. Bell peppers to Japan are basically brussel sprouts to America.

PK you talking about this being your favorite way to cook potatoes, made me think of mine. You may or may not have heard of these, as it seems to be a slightly obscure recipe. I have told people about them and they all say the same thing, "they would be too salty for me". Yet as long as the skin on the potato is not broken, they come out perfectly seasoned. They are called Syracuse salt potatoes, the history as i understand it back years ago the workers in salt factories would bring in bags of potatoes and tie them on a rope and cook them in the boiling salt brine until tender and eat them. When I make them I use either the "baby" potatoes or fingerling potatoes, clean them and add water to your cooking vessel and keep adding salt till it does not want to dissolve anymore. Bring that to a boil and put in your potatoes and cook till fork tender. Take them out and put them on a plate or wire rack, no paper towels or anything. As they sit ther, the heat from them will quickly evaporate the water and leave this very thin layer of salt on them. My favorite way to eat them is either with unsalted butter or sour cream with garlic and powdered chives ( I either use my mortar and pestle or spice grinder to powder the chives).
I played around and experimented with some of the mandrake recipes from the anime and tried to use parsnips for them. And my god did I realize that I'm absolutely in love with parsnip!
