1:46 Mark said on his Discord that Turpentine is "everything he loves about Tom's songwriting". I don't know exactly who did what, but feels like Tom's mostly responsible for this gem.
Yup and those parts sound like they could've been on Tom's To The Stars album (similar kind of vibe as New World)
It's severely underestimated how badly Tom's guitar work was needed back in this band.
He may not be the most amazing musician on paper but stuff that sounds simple actually has the right amount of spice to make things sound amazing.
People think Tom is a bad guitarist because he’s not shredding or doing the most technical stuff but Tom is the best example of less is more. He knows how to write simple riffs and yet add little things to make them so re-listenable even years later.
People slept on Angels and Airwaves which easily has Toms best work on guitar, he really is a great guitarist, he’s just not a shredder and I wish more people would notice that. Dudes a creative genius
That's why we love their songs 😊
Another great video!!
I would love longer form videos and you possibly speaking in them. I get the idea but it all goes by so fast. Great work as always
Keep it up pills
💪
Mark wrote bad news, right?
I thought I heard something about Tom writing it and then Mark reworking it.
Awesome job breaking these down! This album, more than any other blink release, has been a little tougher to distinguish the guitar parts simply because each song has so many layers of guitars stacked on top of each other that it's hard to tell what's actually going on. I really wish I could have someone send me all of the stems from the Dolby Atmos versions to break them all out!
With Turpentine for example, to me during the verse, it almost sounds like he's going from a C power chord to a Csus2... but it could be an added D octave chord (like you played) or even a second guitar stacking a higher G5 on top of the C power chord! It's so difficult to pick out what's going on when they're all mashed together like that.
I thought it was a Csus2 originally too, but I'm pretty sure it's just an inverted G5 (which is what I played in the video). If you listen to Mark's bass, he plays a C, then goes to the G - so that would make the most sense to me.
@@SugarpillProd I definitely see what you mean. It does make more sense that the rhythm guitar is holding down the inverted G5 like you did in order to stack onto the low G of the bass.
I like how it shifts from the C to the Csus2 in the chorus (though that part might actually be two stacked guitars) so I started playing it that way for the verse too. It makes less technical sense that way, but the Csus2 over the G of the bass still sounds pretty heavy!
Great!
Thanks for these hints! Hints for making DIY hits! 😂
what daw you are using? and the other softwares? your videos are great!!
Thanks! I use Reason 12 for recording & arranging, and Reaper for mixing & mastering.
Your my boy blue!!!
Idk if you do anything with lyric writing but if you do you got any tips I’ve been struggling with it
I can't say that's really my strong suit. I'm OK with editing lyrics which have already been written, but I'm sure you'd be better off finding someone else who can teach that kinda thing on UA-cam. Have a dig around you'll likely find some useful video on the topic elsewhere.
What's the name of the song you are using between takes? The 8-bit one.
San Diego 👍
Are you blending a Plexi with a Soldano on your Axe FX?
I use the CA3+ Rhythm & CA3+ Lead, then blend those together 👍
You almost got turpentine correct
Lol what's wrong with it?
What do you mean by "droning"?
The A string rings out continuously, while you move the octaves around.
First? Yes I am that person. Sorry
There's always one 🤣
