    People are always telling me how Tom and Mark are very basic, simple musicians when it comes to their talent with their instruments. My only argument is always “yeah but when you hear just the guitar section and no vocals, you immediately recognize it as blink 182 right? So obviously they got a signature sound, obviously they are doing something right.”

      I never understood this. That maybe be because I don't play guitar but I think the instruments being played by Blink seem way more difficult to play than a lot of bands such as Oasis or Linkin Park (this is coming from the top tracks I know of). Can someone explain what I am missing?

  • @martintemelkov

    People tend to forget that Tom is actually a phenomenal guitar player just because he left an admittedly successful band to pursue his life-long dreams and desires with the money he made for himself. Man is living the life he wants, and that's admirable. As a huge blink-182 fan, I wish the band still went on (Tom, Mark & Travis (with no offense to Matt Skiba, who is also a fantastic musician)) but in the end, Tom is chasing his happiness and I respect that.

      Haha... he's definitely not underrated as a guitarist... he maybe underrated as a person who comes up with blindingly simple, yet catchy, "riffs." I'm a fan of Tom... I started out with a Yamaha Pacifica electric guitar about 20 years ago, and from the beginning all of Tom's licks are approachable, fun and easy to master. I am not guitarist savant or anything of the sort. I'm sorry he is not underrated as guitarist in my opinion. What he does takes very little skill, and even less forethought. He's great to study if you are a beginning guitarist though, and Blink 182 music is super fun.

    • @SonikJesus
      @SonikJesus 5 років тому +36

      @@BSCo_Studio it takes skill to write riffs that catchy. just cause they're easy to play doesn't mean you could've created them. if it was so easy, you would have tons of hit songs too. just listen to the new wannabe blink album. there are no riffs. and the songs are not as well written and catchy as before. they were thrown together. tom is underrated cause people say he sucks but he doesn't. he's really creative. compare all of these riffs here to CA. there are like two riffs on the entire album. its a completely different band

    It's smart that you're alternate picking these riffs. Saves the wrist and elbow from lots of pain. I remember back in 99 having discussion during lunch breaks at school with my friends about who was the better guitarist, Tom or any of James/Kirk from Metallica. I was on Tom side totally biased because I was into Blink and could understand the Metallica attitude. I started playing guitar and realized that Metallica songs were a little harder to learn and ended up feeling like I was wrong with Metallica and they were better guitarists. Now, after 20 years, I know the definitive answer is that they are all masters at what they do. We have to praise Tom and the Metallica boys for being so good and consistent regardless the emotions they project through their music.

    Tremendous video👍🏻

    Wrecked him is a very rare example for Tom...he usually favours certain intervals but the tritone (#4/b5) in wrecked him has a way of sounding really happy rather than foreboding as it usually does when used in metal

    Great riffs in the end. Lots of creativity. Imagine him playing with delays and fx and all that like the edge, in the very beginning of bnlink. Those riffs from the first records some complex enough to give a whole new life to it with fx 🤣

    Dude in Australia Seen blink many times. My favourite was offshore 98. Tom and the band was signing auto's in a tent. Myself my brother and a mate smashed to smithereens walked straight up to to Tom in the auto tent and said, hey Tom and gave the demon fingers, Tom gave the demons back and we walked off ten foot tall. Everyone was left thinking who the fuck are the three idiots. Over twenty years ago mate!.
    Travelled over 1000 kilometres to see blink from NSW to Torquay in Victoria. After the gig we waited at the train station freezing our ass off waiting for the train back to the state. We were fucking freezing man, no shit we could not stop moving for fear of freezing to death.
    Worth every penny. Worth every minute, worth all it was worth at that time.🤠🇦🇺
