Two of my favorite bands!
Two of everybody's favourite bands!
Good to hear Angus talking so highly of Gene
Yes, class act in that regard
Angus Young about KISS : Gene Simmons was very good to us when we came to America. He had gotten us a lot of shows with KISS. Today I am still grateful that he had done this. I remember when I came and saw us live the first time we played in Los Angeles at the Whiskey. He went to the backstage, approached us and said: Hey! I’ve been glued to the wall with your music.
I saw KISS and ACDC in Memphis! Best concert ever!
INVU
I was at the Capital Centre show and was blown away when AC/DC played. I had heard OF them and seen a couple photos but hadn't actually seen them or heard the music. They killed it and I still remember to this day after AC/DC's set was finished and the house lights came on, two guys sitting in front of me one turned to the other and said, "Who needs KISS after that?". I was a diehard KISS fan at the time but had to admit, he was spot on!
those are the comments we NEVER forget!
Interesting, that's the very same reaction KISS used to get when they were the support/special guest in 1974/1975.
@@bang-a-gonzo I know, my first KISS show was 11/30/74, they were opening for Black Oak Arkansas, I was there for KISS. Caught every tour from then on, sometimes twice, up until the 2000's, have seen 3 or 4 since 2010.
WOW amazing! I was aware of Kiss taking out Rush& Aerosmith but didn't know about Angus and the Boys! That woulda been So KILLER!! Jealous of all you guys haha, Mad respect!
I was there too! Still have my ticket. AC/DC that night was to this day the loudest band I’ve ever experienced
Gene is 100% correct . AC/DC and Rush are two bands that turned into legendary status with there own finger print. May Malcom and Neil both RIP.
Exactly and they would have become that being associated with KISS or not.
@@bang-a-gonzo Rush are no ones AC/DC are the biggest rock band of all time
@@asphodelraven8023 That would actually be Led Zeppelin (by far) - but at least RUSH is the biggest rock band to ever come out of Canada, that's no mean feat as well :-)
And Bon
@@bang-a-gonzohey let's not forget Triumph
I just wish Gene was as genuine as he appears to be
Gene is a cool guy.
You have to separate the person and the businessman, but I don't have to educate you about that ... duh.
My two all time favorite bands KISS and AC/DC in that order too!
What a dream bill!
vice versa for me !
viceversa of your viceversa for me@@CarlettoPuglia
I am honored to have been at the show in Louisville Kentucky. Two legends back to back !
Was It at freedom hall
@@TravisBrady-wn8fr yes. Great show I will never forget. I was just a kid. Went to see kiss, but left a huge AC DC fan
I was at that show myself .
It was amazing .
No one had even heard of AC/DC ,
I remember Bon Scott running through the crowd with ANgus on his shoulders during a guitar solo.
@RickFlanagan both bands are extremely successful , ridiculously wealthy and won many awards , sold millions of albums, and sell out massive stadiums. How about you ?
@RickFlanagan Who cares Rick? Nobody read that sad story of your life.
I saw them in Houston '77,
Styx was opening. My mom stayed in line over night for tickets outside Texas tapes and records. Thanks Mom.
Man, that's another incredible bill - STYX is one of my all-time favourite melodic rock bands! Glad I finally got to see them about 20 years ago.
Thats cool. I just saw Styx a month ago. Still kicking *ss😅
@@bang-a-gonzo not a huge fan of theirs, outside all of their radio stuff, but they are amazing in concert. first time was in 2001, with billy squier, bad co (with paul rodgers) and styx as the headliner.
I was at the Louisville show with my older friends.
My first concert, 3 days before my 13th birthday.
What a show!!!
me too, i was there....what a year..Floyd too
Two of my favorite bands
I was at that Memphis show! First concert I ever went to. 12 years old. Blew me away!!!
I didn't become a KISS fan until Spring of 78, so I missed the Memphis show by a few months unfortunately
I was at the Louisville show. Didn’t know until now after seeing your post how special it was. Thanks so much for posting. My most vivid memory is Angus on Bon’s shoulders running through the crowd. So cool. So grateful I was there. This 60 year old man was 14 at the time 😂
I have to comment ,i just randomly seen this video, last night ,and your recent comments...I love ACDC and this was the year before I was born,I have lived in louisville almost my whole life, and never knew about this ,but i did see them on rock N roll train tour in louisville!it was awsome
One of the lucky ones! Myself I didn't get a chance to see KISS until 1980 and AC/DC in 1984.
3 days before my 13th birthday.🤘
I saw this tour and it was amazing. Angus went out into the crowd and did the entire concourse walkway around the entire arena.
You sure couldn't get away with that stunt today!
LOVE IT!!!! Bon dosnt even know GENES name LMAO!!!
MY WIFE AND I SAW KISS IN ABOUT '76 AND WE LOVED THE SHOW. AFTER THEY STARTED THE COMMERCIALIZED, CHEAP, TEENY BOP MUSIC WE DROPPED THEM AND STAYED WITH THE REAL DEALS OF ZEPLIN, CLAPTON, WINTER, TED NUGENT, SKYNARD, ETC... GREAT PERFORMERS BUT THE SONGS THEY WROTE WERE ON THE LEVEL OF CHEAP POP MUSIC.
As a professional musician. I must say, I have huge respect and agreement about Gene's point of view about ( bands )
YES! There are very few stand outs in music as far as stage presence.
After hearing an interview with Angus....
He said people always offered him drugs. Asked him what he wanted...
His answer.
CHOCOLATE!
Listen, drugs have destroyed so many of my idols.
I too got LUCKY. I dabbled, but never lost myself. Came close....
But, I always wonder what music would be, if drugs didn't take some of the all time greats.
Mad respect for both KISS n AC/DC.
Truthfully, I have to say at 55. I'm still putting Zep as my favorite RnR band.
Bonham, as a drummer OOZED RHYTHM!
And something about that ( squeak ) in his kick drum pedal on the second album makes me smile to this day.
Cheers to all musicians, and music lovers who are picking up, what I'm laying down.
Gotta give Gene credit for not being afraid to have super talented bands open and give them a shot back then, especially ACDC. ACDC in 77 had the potential to blow any headliner outta the water and leave them playing to an exausted smaller crowd.
Having that version of the band with Bon and Angus left many a headliner feeling like spinal tap when the mini stonehenge came down.
I saw that potential first-hand September 1978 AC DC annihilated Aerosmith Cobo Arena Detroit two weeks later I witnessed Van Halen do the same thing to Black Sabbath
KISS obviously never needed to worry about that, absolute kings on the stage
I was at the show in Memphis. Incredible!!!! Been an AC/DC fan every since.
Wow, lucky you!
I was there at Market Square Arena. Front row. Got great pics. My first concert. Big KISS fan, then became big AC/DC fan. Bon Scott is AC/DC. I was 16 yrs old
COOL beyond words
It doesn't get much more bada** than this!
I saw Kiss back in the 80s and they put on an incredible show. Still one of the best concerts I ever attended. I can't even imagine how awesome it would be to see Kiss, Rush and AC/DC on the same bill! Back in 1977 these bands were young and hungry!
😊
Amen to that!
Always get a kick out of that clip where Bon can't name Gene..
such a popular guy! lol
Gene Simmons was not a household name in Australia in 1977, you have to remember that this is way pre-internet days....
I was there! December 12, 1977. Louisville, KY. Bon Scott took Angus Young into the audience on his shoulders
I've seen both bands live but to see KISS and ACCA DACCA together with Bon Scott would've been amazing.
Same for me!
Ac / Dc With Bon. Greatest Rock n Roll Band In History
I do admire Kiss' mentoring of up-and-coming bands. Bon Scott just doesn't appear like someone who's about to drink himself to death. He's always sharp and composed.
Bons friend harry probably gave him a hammer
He accidently choked on his own vomit, it's frankly something that could have happened to most of us if the circumstances were unfortunate enough
@@bang-a-gonzo The coroner's report said "acute alcohol poisoning" and "Death by misadventure", the media still tells a bunch of stories but with all of the flowery bullshit removed, he got pissed and went to sleep it off in the car and because he wasn't in Australia, he froze to death.
Up & coming in the US. Here in Australia they were huge. Hence the trip to the US. I was fortunate enough back in the 70’s to see these guys play local pubs, town halls & the like where I lived.👍🏼😎 P.s. I did first see KISS here in 1980 & subsequent concerts over the years & their last End Of The Road Tour! Still brilliant!👏🏼
@@bang-a-gonzohe killed himself with booze and to die that way? Sad.
I was at the Louisville Ky show in 1977, and it was an awesome show!
I went to one of those shows - Indy, in December 1977. I was 12 but I'll never forget what an intense dude Bon Scott was, he did a big monologue about Rosie before they played Whole Lotta Rosie. And Angus' raw energy was unreal.
I'd love to see this concert!!!!!!
Don't suppose it's online anywhere???
Bon was looking snazzy with his new teeth!!
Rest in power chords, you massive legend.
\m/ * * \m/
Actually, some of these dudes look hideous with their fake perfect white teeth. Just doesn't fit the rest of them . Geddy Lee is a perfect example
It's a shame he didn't live long enough to enjoy his brand-new smile. RIP.
Malcolm is playing a Telecaster in one picture. I've read somewhere that Malcolm Young used a Telecaster some early on. Great video!!
Thanks for the info!
I saw that too-just looked wrong but kind of cool at the same time
Imagine seeing AC/DC at the Whiskey with Bon Scott. That would be so killer.
Unimaginable!
I was at one of these shows in Louisville Ky.
INVU!
Saw it on 12/19/77 Cap Centre. Was ending my KISS phase and introduced to the next level of raw Rock n' Roll with ACDC. AMAZING!!
I was there as well. Did not know who AC/DC was and wasn't impressed with them musically at the time. I vividly remember Bon Scott with Angus Young on his shoulders wading through the aisles courtesy of the wireless mic and guitars.
@@akbarlebowitz8151 I remember the AC/DC set more than the KISS set. Yeah, I remember the Angus piggyback ride. Saw them again opening for UFO in 79 - one of the best concerts I've ever seen
Oh, Uriah Heep was toast by the time KISS debuted.
I saw Kiss Dec 21 in st paul 1977 with Detective. I missed ACDC by only 2 days. Damn
Detective was a great band, too!
I was at that show! St Paul Civic Center… Except, it was 12/2/77, not 12/21/77… I still have my stub! Yes, we missed that bill by a couple days! That would’ve been awesome…
I was at the Capital Centre show. My first concert ever. Had no idea who AC/DC were.
And that's why it's so important for upcoming bands to nail a support slot like that, nothing beats getting to play for 10.000-20.000 people per night (if you are good!)
I can see Bon and Ace hanging out.
Definitely 💯..Bon and gene or Paul??nah
Dude if bon and ace went out partying it might take months to find them! Those two would truly be toxic friends lol
@@Ohionortheast Bon always turned up for work ...he was a machine . Not sure about ace though 😆
@@ACDZ123 Supposedly, Paul and Gene put up with Ace's drinking in the 70's because he would be ready to go come show time.
Respect to Gene for this.
Amen!
It's just incredibly sad there is no photos of Gene and Angus together in 1977. Kiss in that era were HUGE, and very sensitive to photos without makeup. Gene has a magic touch for seeing who's going to make it big in rock & roll. It's very interesting how he saw Angus as being very different. And as we know now Gene & Angus share some very similar lifestyle choices.
gene's role in kiss- play bass, and concentrate on marketing! such a natural...
Back then there wasn't a lot of pics with Kiss out of make up. Only certain times and events. Their images was widely protected back then.
Guess that's true, I don't remember ever seeing any photo of them together.
Gene & Angus share some very similar lifestyle
Really😂Angus hates that Rockstar shit. Doesnt even have a drivers license. But he doesnt do drugs. Maybe you wanted to say that?
@@UserUli I don't know how you made the connection between Rockstar shit and not having a drivers license but you somehow manage it, well done.
Would have loved to se them on the same bill, Kiss and AC/DC. But, alas, i was way too young. Damnit!
I saw AC/DC, Van Halen & Motley Crue on the same bill in Sweden 1984, almost just as good!
Back in the day when several big time bands would play together 🤘✌️✊
AC/DC weren't really a big band at this point, they were upcoming
A bluegrass band named Mountain Smoke featuring a then 17-year old Vince Gill opened for Kiss in 1976 in Oklahoma City.
I love that Bon Said He hadnt heard of Rush! Very cool..
This is bon Scott talking about LET THERE BE ROCK era AC/DC touring with freaking UFO, RUSH And KISS. I mean HOLY MOTHER OF…. It just dosent get any better…as far as classic hard rock
If only we had a time machine!
I was there at the Capital Center in Landover MD for this show. Saw AC/DC for the 1at time. No idea who they were but saw that little guy was on fire and when he was hoisted on the singers shoulders and came through the crowd it was the most in your face moment I had ever seen. They left the safety of the stage and were going through the crowd. Still have that ticket stub!
I Kissi sono sempre stati unici in questo senso. Hanno sempre promosso band di altissima qualità senza preoccuparsi del confronto. I Kiss sono grandi!
Bon Scott had such a cool speaking voice.
Back when concert tickets were around $10 or so to see great bands!
The western part of this tour in 1977 was KISS & Cheap Trick, tickets were $6.50 👍
$10 in 1977 prices is $50 in 2023 prices - so ticket prices have really gone up way beyond normal inflation.
@@bang-a-gonzo In the 1990s, $40 was the norm for ticket prices here in Australia and I thought that was expensive.
In 1977, that was a powerhouse show. Back-to-back quality acts.. Respect to Gene for this..
KISS almost always had fantastic support bands, really giving the fans some value for their bucks!
I was front row at the Indy show.
When AC DC lead guitarist was carried around the concourse my sister grabbed a handful of his hair!
True story.
Ha ha, I guess he never really recovered from that, not much left today!
I first saw KISS on Dec. 19, 1977, with AC/DC as the opening act, It was at the Capital Centre, in Landover, MD. Great show.
One the of the truly lucky ones!
Going to a KISS concert where AC/DC RUSH and Motley Crue are opening would be crazy
That never happened but would have been very cool!
Little known fact: Comedian Freddy Lewis was a HUGE mark for Bill Aucoin! xoxo The Clarences
those were the days
I was at those Whiskey shows! I saw 2 of them!
Well in that case you're one lucky SOB! :-)
The bag of money on Gene's ballcap is cracking me up.
Gene could have been a very successful record company exec if Kiss didn't make it. He discovered many great bands.
I saw the first Western part of this tour in 1977. The opening act during the Western Canada, Oregon, WA and California part of their tour was Cheap Trick. It sent the band from Rockford, ILL on their way in the states!!!!!
Yes, KISS and CHEAP TRICK was another perfect match!
Ive always wanted to see pictures of Bon with Ace and Peter......
Never seen, don't think they exist
This "the bass player, what's his name" always makes me smile 🙂
Well, so much for "the REAL story" on WHY ACDC ONLY DID 4 opening shows for KISS but, oh well..Yes, it was a significant era of Rock music coming together/starting out for BOTH bands and WHAT WAS to come.......
This was a video about how the tour came together. I haven't been able to verify anywhere exactly why it only turned out with a handful of shows....
I still say the perfect show (they had it, but I never saw it) would be Cheap Trick opening for Kiss. Talk about a fun show ...
very impressive pin-sharp memory from Gene, even down to what Angua ate the first time they met. I guess that is what comes from no drugs and no booze your whole life
Gene can be incredible sharp but he can also be several years off on commenting on things in KISS' past....I guess at some point it all gets to be a big blur.
Louisville show was my first concert. So naive at 15 y/o didn’t know who AD/DC was at the time.
But you do now, that's what counts!
to see kiss & acca-dacca together mustve been like seeing the 2nd coming!!!
Surely a Top 5 of all-time coupling for a rock'n'roll show!
great video , now i have to be that guy ..... when AIC opened for Kiss in 1996 they were not an up & coming band. They were on their way out. In fact the Kansas City Kiss shows 1996 were AIC's last shows with Layne. The show is on YT
True, that's a good point - but they still were a support band from KISS
LOL!!!! What's the name of bass player in Kiss? Bon Scott was the best!!!!
You have to remember this was pre-internet days and information was not that easy to come by, especially as AC/DC was an Australian band and KISS American.
In 1977, that was a powerhouse show. Back-to-back quality acts.
The end of the road tour should've been marching to the beat of Peter Criss's drums. Oh well, maybe the next one
Pretty sure there won't be another one...but only time will tell!
Great video I just wish there was pictures & Videos of that Tour. pictures of them together, ive Never seen them together. 2 of my favorite bands ever
There's a ton of video and photos of KISS from that tour - but yes, I've never seen a photo of them together at that time.
Best bands in 77 Zappa and Grateful Dead end of story
I believe Rush was on that tour as well.
Rush was taking off in the US on their own by 1977 but they did tour extensively with KISS in 1974 & 1975.
@@bang-a-gonzo I saw an interview with Bon which I'm pretty sure was 77 and he was talking about they were going to be touring with both Kiss and Rush.
@@timlamb6196 I remember that clip. I think he meant they would be opening for Kiss on some dates, and opening for Rush on others.
Aussie Aussie Aussie. RIP Bon 🙏 Angry and the boys "Rose Tattoo" were/are to tough for Americans. 🏴✌️🤘🇦🇺
My two older cousins went to Ashfield Boys High School with Angus Young in Sydney from 1971 -72. 👍
I saw Rose Tattoo in Liverpool UK in 1981 and I think they were too tough for AC/DC! Brutally great gig.
That's another great Aussie band, I saw them live in Sweden last year.
@@craiggerrard5117 I doubt it. I met Rose Tattoo at their tattoo studio in 2001 when we were in Australia to see AC/DC. That studio is in the same road as Mark Evans (1st real bass player) guitar shop. They told us how tough the Youngs were and to "dont mess around with the Young brothers".
Tatts music wasnt that hard either. Thank God, because they are smokin hot too.
Greetings from Germany
Bon was British not Australian.
KISS was my first concert when I was 12. I think it was 78 and it was in Phoenix. My dad had press box seats. I have no idea who opened.
KISS didn't play Phoenix in 1978. They did however play there on August 22nd 1977, with CHEAP TRICK supporting....maybe that was the show you saw?
Maybe 79 then. I moved to Phoenix from NY when I was 11 1/2 in the middle of 5th grade so I wouldn't have been there until the end of 77. I did a lot of psychedelics a few years later so my memory could be off.
I do remember it opened with KISS rising up from the stage,.
@@mechanic6682 Yes, that entrance was only on the 'Dynasty' tour in 1979. They played the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, AZ on November 10th 1979.
Breathless was the support act (a band I am not familiar with at all, I must admit)
No wonder I don't remember who opened for them. I remember most opening acts. Def Leppard I saw during the High N 'Dry tour. They opened for Blackfoot.
Say what you want about Uncle Ted but he was a beast in the 70’s and 80’s. He had the songs and definitely had the chops.
Absolute legend back then!
I was at the Louisville show. 16 years old. Had no clue who AC/DC was. When they played Problem Child, I was like "Oh, I've heard that. Now get off the stage so KISS can play!"
I'm sure this was the reaction from most fans, only later would they realize how great of a band they just witnessed...
That UFO/AC/DC tour must have been amazing
Saw this exact tour as far as Ted Nugent he had been touring as a headliner long before Kiss ever opened a show !!

Gene gets a lot of bad press sometimes & sometimes he's got a big mouth. But i still bet he's a sweetheart. Ive been a fan of his since i was 6 or 7 back in 1976
It never occurred to me before how much Bon Scott resembles Hugh Jackman (or the other way around)! And I mean the face, not the physique..
True, now you mention it. Maybe they have a distant relation?
Kiss is a major pioneer of metal
Definitely in terms of live presentation, yes.
Hard rock not metal
Black Sabbath was the very first true metal band. NOBODY came close.

I saw Kiss with Iron Maiden as supporting act.
There allsome
Gene looks like he should be in ahome with his slippers on.
He will be soon! :-)
AND…. one of the early pioneers of wireless guitar systems! Both KISS and Angus adopted wireless around this time. Ace had been electrocuted during a set and Gene never wanted that to happen again.
\m/, ,\m/
Correct, KISS starting used wireless systems in 1976. Ace was electrocuted in Lakeland, Florida.
Very interesting to know that. I know that Angus isn't keen on using a guitar lead because he can potentially trip over it while he's running around on stage. With regards to Ace, I think you mean he had an electric shock. Being 'electrocuted' means killed by electricity. And Ace is still very much alive.
My first concert was at the Freedom Hall with Kiss and AC/DC. Didn’t know anything about AC/DC but I remember the difference between guys in blue jeans and Kiss wearing their costumes. Visually a strange show
eric and that other guy quickly looked away when gene started talking about 'unique'.
Oh, man. Reminds of one of my biggest rock show disappointments. December 1977. Phila Spectrum. My ticket says KISS w/ AC-DC! Even the local newspaper said the same (pre-internet, folks!). I had never heard of them at the time, but friends/family who had heard of them said they ROCKED! I was already a dyed-in-the-wool KISS fan so I borrowed some AC/DC albums. Wow. Blew me away. I could not wait for the show. The lights go down and on comes...PIPER! What?? uggh!
With Billy squier on vocal. That wouldn't be the worst thing. Or would it 😳
My ticket for that show only says KISS on it, AC/DC isn't listed.
PIPER was another cool band in 1977 but I would agree, not a match for seeing AC/DC!
"PIPER" down low/code name for "SKIN FLUTE 'ER! Pole Smoker🤭🤭😂😂😂😂😆

And Kiss '' Found Ac/ Dc '' And Ac/ Dc Fucken Rocked
KISS didn't 'find' AC/DC, they were already well established by then. But they did help to expose them to a mass audience at a time when it was very helpful Kinda like Ozzy and Metallica in 1986
Kind of strange combo with these 2 together
Not really, both hard rocking bands that came up in the early 1970's, in fact I'd say that was a perfect match at the time.
Kiss can't handle competition and getting blown off they stage. They did it many times over the years. The way they act you'd think they discovered every band. Get over it kiss fans they where a pre-teen band. Then you discovered real music. Most kiss fans living in the past like them. Honestly its the truth face it
Whatever you think of kiss is fine trust me kiss never got blown of stage by anyone in 77 if you were alive then you would know kiss was on top acdc were unknown and kiss in concert was untouchable
I was alive pre teen comic book band.
Odd then that they are still headlining every major festival in the world in 2023....?
Wow, you're not a pretentious douche at all.
@@bang-a-gonzo shame people are going for music and get just backing tracks. People go for the experience trust me not the music. It's all propaganda just like their so called alive albums. Malcolm caused Geezer Butler to break his ankle horse playing at a hotel pool haha
When was this please?
Nah, Geezer threatenend Malcolm with a knife on their tour in 1977. Ozzy came in and called Geezer a fool and to stop that shit. AC/DC were kicked out of the tour then.
Imagine that, a time when UFO was bigger than Rush.
The bass player from Kiss. Carl?😂🤘
