One-week construction time-lapse with closeups: Week 13 of the Ⓢ-series

  • Week 13 in the ongoing Ⓢ series, which follows the construction of a new 13-story senior living building in San Francisco. This is a #construction #timelapse with various closeups and "sub-time-lapses" at various speeds, condensing the week of April 27 - May 2, 2020, into about 49 minutes.
Most of the closeups are concentrated on Thursday and Friday of this week, just the way it turned out. Although there are some scattered throughout. Monday only has one closeup (causing the video to have somewhat of a slow start) and Wednesday has none, while Thursday has a boatload. Some good views of the concrete pumping high-rise tower on Tuesday.
Trying an experiment on Monday and Thursday with showing the tower crane as an inset in the upper left, since the tower crane is not usually visible as we usually focus on the construction below. Not sure how well it worked out, but worth a try. May or may not continue it, as it adds more work for me! (You may notice flicker in that inset, because it comes from the base time-lapse camera and I didn't have time to run the deflickering software over it, which can take literally many hours of processing time.)
On Tuesday and Thursday nights, and during the day on Monday and Thursday, there's some work going on underneath the street. Possibly removing/replacing some electric power equipment, although I can't say for sure.
A lot of columns go up and get filled with concrete, there's always more rebar, and more shotcrete. Progress continues on the shoring/decking.
There's a drive-by protest parade circling around and around the neighborhood and the site for a while on Friday. Yep, this is one of the few construction time-lapses you see that includes a protest parade (can't call it a march, because they're not marching, they're driving).
And a little bit of fun and fooling around here and there. There were a few minor editing mistakes, but noticed them too late in the process to fix them.
There's no construction work on Saturday, but the camera catches a local "artist" at work on Saturday evening.
Set to a potpourri of music tracks licensed from Audio Network (in chronological order by first appearance):
Femme Fatale - Barrie Gledden, Tim Reilly (1418/4)
Rest Is Noise - William Davies, Edward Nutbrown, Charles Nutbrown (2338/2)
Previous Convictions - Jason Rebello (3369/5)
Rain Song - Igor Dvorkin, Duncan Pittock (1209/2)
Super Fi - Marc Jackson Burrows (3168/9)
To Be Me 3 - Evelyn Glennie, Igor Dvorkin (1193/36)
Dynamite 3 - Per Ljungqvist, George Nakas, Sara Gunnarsson (2784/10)
Have You Heard - Jeff Dale, Tim Reilly, James Scholes (3229/3)
Eagles 2 - Julian Emery, James Irvin (3374/68)
Bully Beef - Tom Quick (1548/3)
Proud Kingdom - Paul Mottram (1877/4)
As usual, you're always welcome to listen to your own playlist instead if you prefer (there's no dialog in the video).
00:00 - Mon (wide shot, tower crane inset)
06:37 - Tue (concrete, forms, misc)
13:42 - Tue night (street work)
14:35 - Wed (wide shot, concrete, forms)
20:09 - Thu (many closeups, tower crane inset)
36:16 - Thu night (street work)
37:17 - Fri (concrete, forms, protest, misc)
48:08 - Closing, Saturday "art", preview

Hello H C, another great video showing that it is coming together. It was very busy as always. The crane shots gave us an idea how busy it was and all credit to the operator for keeping his concentration at 100%. Slowly but surely the concrete pour begins in stages. Great work and thanks for sharing. The site is keeping up with the medical checks so I hope everyone including all at H C continues to stay safe 😷

These videos seem incomprehensibly complex to me. Like watching a large ant colony or wasp nest. So many people working on so many different things - from the crane operator, to the guys climbing rebar, to the sweepers and traffic directors. Mesmerizing. I'd love to learn how all this is organized & tasks laid out.

I understand the interest in getting in the crane, but I vote against the inserts. They don't seem worthwhile to me and feel a little intrusive to me, even though there's not much of interest in that corner of the view.

What's going on with the underground utility vault at the lower right corner? at 14:25 they removed what looks like several large transformers. I never saw them replaced before they covered the vault up again. At 36:55 they put in some small pieces of equipment, but nothing that would replace the transformers, I'd think.

I have no definite knowledge, not having any connection to the project. But this is my guess. The old building that was there before got its power from that location (you can see it during the demolition over on my "Hotel Demolition" channel). I suspect the new building will be getting its power from the left side somewhere, since there was no evidence of any power going in on the lower right when the concrete was poured. I suspect they were removing old equipment no longer needed since the old building was demoed. I have seen some old (probably obsolete) plans for the new building that show a room marked "transfer switch" over on the left, side so I suspect the power will be coming in from the left side, perhaps in one of those places they've been digging up the street. Just a guess on my part.

Also, those transformers may have been utility owned and removed since they were no longer needed. The new building transformers may be inside the basement of the new building with high voltage lines coming in from the street. They may also have been removed because they contained old hazardous materials like lead lined cables or pcb transformer oil.

    • @timothybarney7257
      @timothybarney7257 4 роки тому

@@HospitalConstruction Transfer switch may refer to the proposed location of what is known as an ATS, or Automatic Transfer Switch, that handles cut out of commercial utilities and cut in of a backup power generator during power outages. That would typically be located with the rest of the electrical line gear. Something like Senior living would very likely include that due to potential need of emergency power for medical monitoring gear for the residents, power for the lights and elevators, etc.

My only honest criticism would to ask you to stay on the task of construction. You have a channel and could easily edit or cover social issues/events and post them separately. Also stick to a single filter, it my sound picky, but it does hurt the eyes (particularly when your color blind.) I actually at one time asked the wife if there was something wrong with my device. Last and again an opinion, but could you remove the crane shot? In all, I really do enjoy your channel and do look forward the next episode,

    - Sorry, but not. I already wanted to ask you stop using this crazy filters if i see that on this one here. But you improved yourself and adding strobo (which mostly using for stabilisation of course).
I catch that for a half of second, and that was enough to stress my eyes for half a hour, until they stop jumping. Be more loyal please.
If you try to learning or get research and experiments (on using filters), make that not for mass public please. There was a reason why no one use that things in movies. But to be clarify, that things very popular in medicine, for stressing eyes or brain to catch problems.
