This is a great informative series Andrew. Paul provides wonderful explanations and the team working on the vehicle appear top notch! Thanks for taking us along.
Years ago, I purchased a BJ 60 for next to nothing due to it being high mileage, 980 000 km to be exact. The vehicle was a one owner with all dealer service records since new. The seller said he never had a mechanical breakdown during the 20 years of ownership. The transmission and transfer had minor wear, but i refreshed both with the Terrain Tamer kits, as the labour involved dismantling / assembling along with re and re, made it a no-brainer. The engine still ran fine but was using oil. Luckily, i had 5 new factory short blocks on hand, so I replaced it and rebuilt the head using the aftermarket pre chambers, a common weak point.
fantastic informative thorough series of videos expert advice and a real insight to the things to look for when purchasing a Cruiser on top of that a real time on the road advice and look at the way things work and differences between products etc etc etc , just endless . Credit to you and thank you. Also a rare sense of humour and honesty including the missus very well done.
Awesome team there in Cape Town with Paul, Joubertina and Cape Transmission. Andrew, could you provide a list of 'Good guys' to support like them here in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth?
Note to self: NEVER strip a gearbox alone. ALWAYS make it some one else’s problem. But incredibly satisfying for buying second hand! Well done Mr Andrew and thank you for the awesome team.
Noticed the "P" Reg UK Land Cruiser in the background behind Paul! Do they work on all types/makes of Gearboxes? Do they have an upgrade gearbox kit for Land Rover Discovery 300tdi, I wonder?
I guess different types of driving gives different wear. My old LR had a pto driven air compressor and soo even though the milage was low the engine and transmission was really worn but the axles, wheel bearings and steering is still in great condition. 🤔
Man I would love to record and mix sound for you. Love the idea of a rebuild kit. I have a discovery at the moment, but going back to an 80 series with a 606 soon I hope. Thanks for the content.
As a normal person, would my car get the same kind of care? And would I be able to afford it or would it boost the cost up to the level of a factory new car?
Would be interesting to know what the Terrain Tamer gearbox kit costs in SA - just for interest's sake? Is it possible to state that or is it "verboten" for some reason?
LOL! So the long and short of this video is to NOT! use genuine parts ... where once upon a time the advice was to only use genuine parts ... great to see that you can have your cake and eat it too! 🤣
Paul Marsh and his trusted associates are modern day super heros.
Pure pleasure watching them.
Well put
The trick is finding the people who can do the job correctly.
Good, things are rarely cheap and cheap things are rarely good
Yes, and that seems to be getting more difficult day by day. The other thing that’s getting hard to find is someone who actually gives a toss.
100%
Agree
Am I just so old school that learning to do it yourself is archaic?
Brilliant. The guy from Cape Transmission was excellent. Very knowledgeable and presented well.
Great video, the man from Cape Transmissions is knowledgable and very well spoken. Excellent to see.
Always a pleasure watching Paul work on a Toyota and take the time to thoroughly explain exactly what we are seeing. Well done as always Paul.
Always a pleasure to listen to people who know what they do very well.
Impressive. Educational. Respectful.
Its pure joy to watch professionals of this caliber.
This is a great informative series Andrew. Paul provides wonderful explanations and the team working on the vehicle appear top notch! Thanks for taking us along.
I could listen to Paul Marsh's dulcet tones all day, what a legend
Always a pleasure watching these shows! I need to become a patron!
This is a gem of a video Andrew. You're helping many for sure.
Great guys who know what they are doing. No bullshit!
Always such interesting and informative videos, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series, learning so much. Nice work guys!
Humans at their best. Thank you
I find pleasure in watching this.
These last few episodes have been so informative. So much knowledge between this team

A mate of mine has a LandCruiser ute. 1500000 km all original. Only had 4 engines. 5 gearboxes. And 3 rear diffs on its 2nd chassis and 2 Nd cab.
Sounds a bit like Triggers brush out of "only fools and horses" LOL
“Only” 🤣
I know what's original - the rust - maybe. Or the radio aerial.
Blimey, my landrovers (even new ones I've had) would KILL to have as little play and leaks as this 500k box!!

Loving the series. Not only entertaining, but very educational, too. You don't see that combination very often. Thank you very much!
5:46 oh a fellow Davinci Resolve enjoyer
I enjoyed that very much. It’s hard to find good workshops. Thank you for sharing.
There is no need to guess… underrated statement.

Great video! Also really like that funky jazz at the intro 🔥🔥
Me too .
Thanks for the look inside the gearbox, not something you get to see very often if ever.
Paul Marsh is an honest professional and his o.d company footloose 4x4 sadly missed
Note to self: NEVER strip a gearbox alone.
ALWAYS make it some one else’s problem. But incredibly satisfying for buying second hand! Well done Mr Andrew and thank you for the awesome team.
😂,, While you're in there... 🙌. Man,, those Terrain Tamer kits are freakin SWEET🍑CHEEKS. Love it.
Very interesting video. Wouldn't mind more videos on specific problems on 4x4s
I'm looking forward to an African Expedition...Australia is nice but I think Africa is far more diverse and interesting.
very insightful!
Cheers!
Enjoyable and informative. Good work on that videography Andrew. Always hard to film a moving part up close.
Marty from Perth
Is this the A750F transmission? I may have missed that part. Thx
Please can you post the full, unedited stripdown footage?
Noticed the "P" Reg UK Land Cruiser in the background behind Paul!

Do they have an upgrade gearbox kit for Land Rover Discovery 300tdi, I wonder?
They are Landcruiser guys. So I doubt it. Plenty of LR specialists in SA that will be able to help.
Do they have upgrade parts for LR 110 gearbox LT 72 I guess ..
thank you for video
Is the transfer case integrated into the transmission?
I guess different types of driving gives different wear.

very good overall
Nice vid!!
Information is king. Great video, where did you shoot the video, South Africa/ Australia?
In Cape Town
Cape Town, South Africa.
Great content ,as usual , I wonder how much it did cost in the end and the amount of time it took ( gearbox reconditioning) . Thank you
The last realy though drivetrain are the J8.
Any transmission specialists in Western Australia that could do this sort of rebuild?
Looks like brand new if you change the filter and oil every 10,000kms.
LOL! So the long and short of this video is to NOT! use genuine parts ... where once upon a time the advice was to only use genuine parts ... great to see that you can have your cake and eat it too! 🤣
That’s the little gear box do a H55 swap.
Never seen this problem with a Patrol.
Toyota say that gearbox is also rusty.
R151 ?
ah yes i see the 5th gear
500k for a cruiser is only just run in!
Have no idea how old the box is. It could be a box that was put in 250,000 ago. No one knows
500k...yeah na prob removed at least once
kijk dar boetie
