My one wish in life would be to send my 105 to these guys to sort out all the little niggles that most mechanics/ builders ignore. Love how thorough they are.
I absolutely love watching these series where you build a truck. It’s a great way to learn, as a novice like myself. I’m in the very beginning stages of building a tourer for North America.
It's great to hear seasoned experts critique your Troopy and how they diagnose the vehicle. Especially since despite the drivetrain working, they still plan to open the axles and visually inspect the diffs.
Alternative jobs Paul could do: 1. audio book reader 2. air traffic control 3. instructor 4. hostage negotiator 5. POW interrogator. 6. Bad news doctor - as in "You have cancer but it's not all bad news. You still have 3 days to live."
Hook line & sinker Andrew.. I take it we might see a little revenge, as we watch this build? Rubber snake in an inaccessible place perhaps? O.o I'm sure with your wealth of experience in the SA bush, you will think of something. O.o LOL G'day to Gwynn, hope she is enjoying her time back in SA, Catching up with old friends, etc. Take care, stay safe.
No. A low pressure turbo can work with a 1HZ as long as one closely monitors the EGTs. These engines are not well suited to adding a turbo. It usually damages them.
Only time ya foot touches a clutch pedal is to change gears and press to floor , lazy people rest their foot on pedal at lights and clutch is slightly engaging slowly wareing out
500000km's is no big deal i have Mitsubishi Delica petrol v6 with 648000km's same engine same gearbox (auto) starter motor same alternator and it's used hard moral is regular maintenance .
😁 I thought the same thing, I love watching your videos they are always great but maybe in situations where there is lots of noise you may need an external mic. Either way keep doing what you’re doing!
@@4xoverland im in Australia as well. Owned a 76 with a V8. Horrible layout, starter motor a two day job, injectors at $4500 a set, Alternator at sump level, great for creek crossings, exhaust manifolds and Turbo also inaccessible, front wheel track 2" wider than rear. Weak gearboxes, never tow long distance in 5th gear. A disaster if breakdown in remote areas, without laptop and full toolkit. Nice Aircond and exhaust note really all it had going for it. Rubbish car.
It's like flogging a dead horse. You will throw good money at it but there is no way you can cover everything. Taking the old clunker out to remote country with that nagging thought am I going to break down. That's not fun when you are in a fairly inhospitable country.
Lordt…it’s a Land Cruiser. I have 283,000 + MILES (455,444 KM) on my 80 Series and wouldn’t think twice about driving it around the globe. Granted, I’ve replaced the power steering pump, valve cover gasket, cylinder sheaths, all the hoses, radiator, the entire AC system, new starter, alternator, water pump, new suspension, new brakes (and new calipers at the back), and a new rear main seal, but I know now exactly where she stands and she is bulletproof.
I recently purchased an FJ Cruiser with 406,000 kms. It just needed a new serpentine belt, rollers and tensioner and all fluids change. Runs perfectly and I trust it enough compared to 2 defender and 2 discoverys I've owned in the past. This Troopy is not bad at all and can be trusted after a bit of TLC. I mean it just did a 1600 km trip😮
@Larry Queen lord. You have already almost rebuilt it. I know it a Toyota. I have had a few myself in Australia and we joke saying they are like White goods ( refrigerators) on wheels. Reliable. I have a mate who used a trooping in his plumbing business. He loved it but eventually it wasn't just drive train that failed. Metallurgy also took its toll. He had to park it up and move on. Andrew Intends to use this one in one of the worst countries to tour. Not only around Jo'burg.. you break down and when you come back to rescue it it's stripped or burnt. Plus did you hear the drive train noise and the broken passengers seat. Poor Gwen. What a clunker. He looks like he has plenty of cash. I can't see his reasoning. If Paul actually charged him the correct mechanics rate to work on it rather than mates rate i bet he wouldnt do it.But I suppose he gets some video channel mileage then knowing him he will do a little trip then flip it and move on. He is a motoring journalist not a true expedition adventurer.

drivetrain working does not mean that is perfect condition, at this milleage, check everything, i don't see it like as bad thing...
Look on Joubert’s face is characteristic of every mechanic, except a mechanic on UA-cam. Look forward to a very exciting series.

Loooking forward to seeing what these two can do we the truck
Haha! I was thinking, “Don’t fall for it, Andrew!” 😂
too late! The buggers got me. Again!
There’s nothing I enjoy more than those two working on Toyotas
They need there own channel
Check out the Car care nut.
Nothing worse than intelligence and cheekiness in the same human 😉
Sad to see on their test drive the beautiful neighborhood with all the walls and fences and gates oh my.
You can rush but bring a checklist to make sure everything is working well
Interesting. Can you please show how you fix the sagging rear door? Mine does the same :)
replace the hinges and adjust the slammer plate.
Awesome as always.A great build series. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
A landcruiser with a working handbrake! Defiantly on a winner there.
Unbelievable, right?!

Great content.
Poor Andrew, always being hazed by his buddies 😂😂😂
I had to do a double take during the test drive, I nipped out of the room and got back and thought you'd had some work done, are you related?
Would you add turbo on ?
No. A low pressure turbo can work with a 1HZ as long as one closely monitors the EGTs. These engines are not well suited to adding a turbo. It usually damages them.
Cool
How the heck does anyone wear out a clutch after only 30,000km?!?
I've driven vehicles over 300 000 km and sold them, still running the factory clutch. And most of it was city driving with constant stop/starts. ☺
looks like you got a good un
There life in the old dog yet 😊
Wonder who the "little jerk" is they keep referring to?🤨

those niggles are the least of your troubles. I used to own that Troopy, it has been rolled and rebuilt.
Was it you? How do you know it was the same one?
Old joke
yeah. old joke played on me when I rebuilt the 105 in 2019.
Andrew, terrible background noise… 😅
Its the car. It was so noisy that at times Gwynn and I could not speak to each other.

Toyota making another SWB >
WE wants off AFRICA 🌍, SAFARIS, 👉🇿🇲ZAMBIA 🇿🇲, LESS SHOWING,WHY,

Too noisy and uncomfortable reliability not everything
Except when you're remote, which is what the vehicle's for

@@Queensizemusic Indeed, I should’ve !
@@Skyman007AS 😊🤙🏼
Andrew....Just fix it up and sell it.... Or do something new and go on a "Safari" in Africa.
Notwithstanding global events that prevent travel, will be using this Landcruiser for an expedition in Africa in 2024.
You guys in Africa lucky you never got the V8 Diesel. Horrible engine.
I have the V8 diesel in Australia. In my other Troopy. The engine is fantastic. Reliable, powerful, not overly thirsty.

I hear you. Not great for servicing, I agree. PS. The V8 is available in Africa. But the 1HZ is better for the low grade diesel there.
@@4xoverland the 1HZ is gold. Great engine, they are getting harder to buy over here because their value is understood.

It's a Toyota, not a Land Rover.
I think ASPW knows if he can trust a vehicle or not.
