My name is David Garman and I am Mike's nephew who lived with him and his daughters. I have been on the sidelines listening to this podcast and ithers. I am not sitting on the sidelines and being quiet anymore. First Mike had contacted me at the behest of my step father Lyle Garman. Mike and Lyle were concocting a wrongful death lawsuit to sue a hospital and a few doctors over my mother's sudden death. When Mike called me that he was having a hard time trying to take care of Alissa and Sarah and asked me if I could stay with him to help him with his daughters because of his health issues. I did not ask him if I could move in with him, I already had a place. I was not homeless or destitute as he has claimed over the years. He also said he needed financial help as well so I believed his stories and thought I could help him. It wasn't until a few years later that I realized his true intention was to get me involved with this lawsuit and to convince my late brother as well because these idiots had an attorney file a class action lawsuit. Back then I was drinking alcohol, heavily. I was self medicating because I am a combat veteran and my mother had just died. One night I came home and found a VHS tape that clearly had Alissa and I believe one of her friends posing nude. As soon as I saw that I called a friend to come pick me up immediately and I left hastily. The next day I called my mom's mother and sister to tell them what I found at Mike's house. When I spoke to them they were not to terribly shocked because they were suspicious of Mike having an inappropriate relationship with Alissa. I wish that I had called CPS and reported this. But I didn't. I live with this every day because I was a coward. Mike didn't kick me out he didn't take me in because I was destitute. When I was approached by the Phoenix PD via a flyer about Alissa in 2008 I decided that I needed to do the right thing and come forward with what I knew. And I still will. I loved Mike Turney. He was more of a father to me than my real and step father. I truly wanted to aspire to be like him. I don't want any attention and I do not seek attention. This isn't about me. This is about a 17 year old girl whose life was snuffed out because her step father didn't want anyone to know of his dirty secret. Mike Turney killed her. And that truth will come out. My heart goes out to Sarah and her brothers and the hell that they have and still do endure.

I feel like he’s for sure the one who was SO obsessed with her and I didn’t like how much he was into her life like that.... people can see him as the “overprotective parent” but that was BEYOND that! He was literally trying to make sure, at every point that he can still have her to himself and I KNOW he was jealous of Alissa’s bf etc. She didn’t run away, no one in the union was fatter her. He killed her. And unfortunately, her sister Sarah probably got the murder story as accurate as possible. I believe that what Sarah was allegedly saying happened to Alissa, I believe that’s EXACTLY what happened. I just really hope one day they can prove it and nail this bastard.

Maybe he took pride in a sick way of having it on recording knowing that the evidence was there in so many tapes of him abusing and yet he still wan't caught. @@angelika_munkastrap4634 The dad IS a creep? We are not talking about a woman right now. This is a case where a man is a prime suspect. This is a case about a creepy man, not woman. No one said women cannot be creepy. It is not just creepy cause it is a man/dad. The mom is dead. What you said has nothing to do with the case. He sexually abused his daughter. Ellie Paget just because another charity was busted for fraud doesnt mean ALL charities are scamming people. That is why there are charitIES, they are not all grouped under one organization. They are all organized and ran by different individuals who have different morals. Some are shitty, some are not. The same as everything else in life. So please, unless you have direct proof that Thorn is a scam, please don't go around stating that they are. You could potentially stunt the growth of a movement that could help millions of children.

I was molested as a child and I can remember for so long, I would call the man who did it a paedophile: not knowing, everyone would tell me that wasn't a nice thing to call someone, but I was a child who was scared and wanted what was happening to me to stop and me calling him a "paedophile" was me desperately trying to get someone to notice and help.

I feel so bad for Sarah, losing her sister, finding out her father isn't the man she thought he was, now caught up in the whole story. I hope she finds peace in life and good things come to her.
Also, there is too much evidence against the dad for him not to be involved somehow. Either she actually ran away to get away from him or he had something to do with it. Like what the nephew said he saw on the videotape? Thats way too weird and specific to be made up. And all the other little things. He sounds like a creep, just was really good at hiding it. And he took all his creepiness out on Alissa, targeting her as the "rebellious" one and treating Sarah differently. How crazy. :(

the upsetting thing about media coverage in missing persons cases is that people just lose interest. if there aren’t leads being followed or the case has been cold for years, then media will often drop the case because they either don’t care anymore or people are losing hope. it’s awful when you think about it, because a little more media coverage could make someone talk. they might even bring closure to a family - whether that’s by bringing the missing person home or just finding out where they went and what happened to them.

I think that runaways should be treated the same as every other disappearance. It almost never is the case that they're running for no reason & then cases like this would be far less likely to happen.
If they find them, do an in-depth interview & if everything is hunky dory, then fine move on. It's nothing more than a welfare check & cops do those all the damn time.
Far fewer people would slip through the cracks that way.
    Have a great day!

Most people don't remember this but less than a week before 9/11, the Pentagon informed Congress that they had "misplaced" 3 trillion dollars. If we started holding them more accountable instead of handing contractors blank checks, we'd have more than enough. Seems our priorities are just way out of whack.

That video he made where he is calling her a stupid moron in that awful voice told me everything I needed to know about him. He sounded like such a bully and such a creep. He is obviously abusive. It is very clear that he did it.

Okay, so here’s what I think. I think that Mike was sexually abusing Alissa. There are a lot of red flags in this case, the fact that Alissa was not his biological daughter made it easier for him, after her mother passed away she didn’t have her to protect her from Mike, and he could have starting turning his attention on her as some sort of replacement for his wife. The fact that he monitored her constantly could have been from fear of her outing him as an abuser, but it also could have been a fixation on her, he was displaying jealous tendencies in terms of Alissa’s boyfriend. The video in which she calls Mike a pervert and he calls her a stupid moron, I mean, what kid says that their stepdad is a pervert unless it’s true? The whole incident with the cousin finding the vhs footage of Alissa is weird, and the fact that Alissa said to friends that Mike picked her up from school early and tried to abuse her and he picked her up early from school the day she went missing is another red flag for me. I think he picked her up early from school, tried to sexually abuse her, she fought back and said she would tell and he killed her and buried her. He probably had the note she wrote about running away because he had previously gone through her things out of jealousy and snooping, so he had it ready as an excuse and made sure Sarah found it and the staged run away scene in her room. It’s easy to make a teenage girl look like a runaway, and he knew how to manipulate the narrative around her disappearance to make her seem like she left. I hope that he gets put in trial for this, he should not be allowed to walk free if he did kill her. Okay, I know that was long, but I really hope that Sarah gets some closure on this, Alissa gets justice and Mike gets what he deserves. Thanks Kendall for covering this story and for all the work you do with Thorn. ❤️

Hey Kendall! Have you heard of the Elyse Pahler case? She was murdered where I live in 1995 by some guys in a rock band that killed her as a sacrifice to get their band famous. Its what the movie Jennifer's Body is based off of. Her parents were the ones that tried to sue Slayer. My brother went to school with her, such an interesting and twisted case

It's insane that with the majority of these cases, it's so blatantly obvious who the culprit could be, but it's still so hard to physically prove it. I mean...this guy recorded her, watched her at work, picked her up from school early and she was never seen again, and that home video where Alissa OUTRIGHT SAYS he's a pervert?!?! And those sexual abuse contracts?! I have no words

Kayla Balleste exactly imagine that it was a stranger then they'd be suspects for sure but because he was her dad it wasn't taken seriously
