    The sound in the beginning sounds like a quartet of four female voices from a fifties choir, beautiful. I’ve never heard this from any synth I know.

      That’s such a beautiful analogy! I kind of hear it now as well 😄 but apart from whatever it is I always thought that the polyphony of the Perfourmer has something deeply intense and special. At times even too emotional for what you’re looking for 😊

    They need a visual representation of each editing process in a comprehensive manual since there is zero feedback or any way of confirming any changes made for things like intervals,midi channels ,sync ( LFOS and external midi clock) have been set correctly. Also tuning is quite a pain in poly mode too . That’s why it never gets used here. The manual doesn’t even reference the buttons on the left hand side to set things. If anyone is interested I have one for sale with the cv midi ins and outs etc. 👽

      Oh no 😄 I think it can take a while until you appreciate it, what made you sell it? Also it seems like they’ve been out of stock for quite a while now.

      I had to pay for repairs on super short notice so it had to go unfortunately - but yes, you're right I've been watching the availability on Thomann and it looks like quite the wait, they've also gone up in price by a substantial amount since I got one last time !

      @@stinkypete9070 Yes, this I also saw. But would be sad if they stopped producing it, it's really one of the most unique synthesizers in my opinion.

    This is an interesting analog synth. What are your thoughts about how this differs from the Soma Synths Pulsar-23? I’m trying to figure these machines out because I love experimenting and getting expressive results…even if unplanned. I’m new to this world of instruments. Does this have an internal sequencer that you can adjust on the fly or does patterns actually come from an external sequencer?

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 роки тому +2

      It really is! In my opinion it has a high value in terms of "unique selling point". I just checked the synth you mentioned. It's similar in terms of 4 voices, but the Pulsar is more centered around drum sounds, so it's more a drum machine. It has more options though through all the modular connectors for future connectivity. The Perfourmer does not have an integrated sequencer, just a few internal sequences that you can play with. It doesn't look like the Pulsar has one either. So to me it looks like the Perfourmer gives you way more options for melodic, polyphonic and harmonic ideas, while the Pulsar is more of a drum and bass groove box, that allows many modulation possibilities. But that's just my quick 5 minute judgement 😄

      @@JannisLeWolff Thank you so much for the detailed response! The Pulsar-23 does have a built-in sequencer but it is very fluid and nothing is preset so you can create patterns manually or use the posts to create time signatures you want and even have irregular/ducking type patterns. If you hold your finger on any pad, the sound will continue until release making it possible to use any of the voices as synths as well. You can use external MIDI for sequencing, too. It’s built very sturdy and weighs 4kg (8.82 pounds). Speaking of sequencing, I figured I will use the Elektron Octatrack Mk2 (“OT”) for my sequencing needs. If you have not used this device, it is more a “sampler mangler all in one” device. It has eight individual tracks that can be used for audio OR MIDI an is capable of MIDI controlling numerous devices while routing the audio back into OT for recording, slicing, etc. What this and other Elektron devices such as Digitakt, Digitone, Analog 4, and Rytm are well known for is the ability to have random “triggers” on any track or audio recorded. You can change the playback to extreme unpredictable patterns based on percentages of occurence. This is a device I will keep.
      I mentioned this because there is a device Elektron makes known as the Analog Four. It’s an analog synth but only has four tracks. I was considering getting rid of it because the OT can handle pretty much anything but I would want an analog replacement that doesn’t have a lot of built in sounds already. I like being able to control any feature manually and see what becomes of it. Have you heard of the Elektron Analog Four? Seems like it might be a good idea to have both the PerFourMa and the Pulsar-23 as my creative instruments. I would use the OT to control the PerFourMa. If you ever get to watch a video of the Elektron Analog Four Mk2, please let me know if you can see the PerFourMa replacing the Analog Four Mk2.
      Lastly, do you have any videos that show how to set up the PerFourMa with an external sequencer? And how the sequencing works maybe connected to an OT?

    Really interesting exploration, thankyou! I learned synthesis back in the day on a Korg Mono/Poly which is a little similar, especially in terms of individually cycling through oscillators. The PerFourmer has so much more of course. I've been selling little bits of gear for months now to save up, but it seems the PerFourmer has been out of stock everywhere for ages :(

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Richard, thanks a lot for your comment! I also saw that it seems to be out of stock, which is a huge pity. I really hope it will be back soon, it really deserves to be on the market ❤So you could also do this step by step through oscillators thing with that Korg? What was the exact name of that synthesizer? 😊

    • @RichardDeHove
      @RichardDeHove 2 роки тому +2

      @@JannisLeWolff The Korg Mono/Poly. It's greatest feature for me was putting it in poly mode then cycling through oscillators with the arpegiator which is like a little taste of the PerFourmer. Of course it doesn't have multiple envelopes per oscillator etc. Behringer made a clone recently which I got but it seems to lack some of the old magic - or more likely it's me inflating things from nostalgia.

    • @JannisLeWolff

      It looks really fun, also in terms of the design. Seems like having some vintage price tag already though 😉 Do you still have it?

    • @RichardDeHove
      @RichardDeHove 2 роки тому

      @@JannisLeWolff Silly vintage prices like all the good old gear. I've only got the clone now.

    • @JannisLeWolff

      @@RichardDeHove I heard from quite some people though that the Behringer stuff is getting quite close with all their emulations. I just recently discovered that they almost copied any classic synth. But I guess there is also some part inside of you who doesn't want to admit that it sounds as good 😉 I realize that I have this with Behringer sometimes, totally unconnected to any actual user experience.

    The jazz standard you played through it was great! Was that pre-programmed midi that came from a website, or did you play it in? I would like to find a database of midi tracks like that, so I can feed midi into my synths while I test settings and fx. Thanks!

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! I programmed/played it myself. There is quite some midi available for classical music, but not that much for jazz. Lots of re-arranging in terms of rhythm has to be done as well.

    Kannst du bitte diese Spielmodi erklären/zeigen?
    - monophon, wobei alle vier Synthesizer-Stränge zu einer mächtigen Stimme kombiniert sind
    - monophon, aber die vier Stränge werden mit jeder Note "rotierend" einzeln nacheinander gespielt
    - duophon mit zwei Stimmen bestehend aus je zwei Strängen (in zwei Varianten, rotierend zwischen den Stimmen und normal duophon)
    - polyphon vierstimmig mit einem Strang je Stimme (in zwei Varianten mit unterschiedlichem Verhalten beim Note Stealing)

    Does the MIDI implementation on the Perfourmer allow for control of everything on the front panel?

    • @JannisLeWolff
      @JannisLeWolff  2 роки тому

      No, the knobs are only for the sound and have no midi connection/can’t receive any. You can only receive midi for the note/velocity, modwheel/pitchbend and midi clock.

    • @JannisLeWolff

      Ich habe ihn damals gebraucht gekauft. Ich finde im Vergleich zu anderen Synthesizern hat der Perfourmer einen ziemlich fairen Preis. Man bekommt 4 unabhängige Synthesizer, unzählige Möglichkeiten die durch Software schwer zu emulieren sind und eine exzellente Verarbeitung. Die Regler fühlen sich unglaublich wertig an. Dazu eine eher kleine Firma, die nicht ihre ganze Produktion nach China auslagert und nur wenige Produkte im Sortiment hat, aber diese dafür unglaublich hochwertig sind. Viele andere teure Synths haben Funktionen, die man mit Software auch bekommt. Der Perfourmer ist ein seiner Konzeption dagegen total einzigartig und kann quasi alleine eine ganze Band imitieren. Aber man sollte auch bereit sein, sich auf das Instrument und seinen Charakter einzulassen 😉
