    1. I am a doctor avoider also and didn't go to the gyno until I was 32!
    2. Tracking your cycle can be a form of birth control. Determine when you are ovulating (which is just 1 week a month) and do not have sex then. There are several apps you can use along with temperature tracking. You will only get pregnant if you have sex during ovulation (or the week of). You can also have sex during that time; just use condoms. There is a great book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I highly recommend it! The rest of the time, you do not need to worry about protection or birth control because it is impossible to get pregnant. This does put you at risk for STDs, so please only do this if you are in a committed relationship with 1 partner who you trust.
    3. My sister tried the IUD to get away form the pill. She experienced worse symptoms than on the pill. Weight gain, water weight, and high anxiety.

Umm, I really like your mommy but I'm STUNNED that she didn't talk to you about going to a gynecologist. Every mother or grandmother or other female mother-type has a responsibility to tell their daughters about their healthcare and the first part of that is a baseline pap smear, breast exam, and a talk about birth control options. It's important for the person you talk with about an IUD knows the details of your situation. And when I say "situation" I mean she or he has been up in there in a medical way. Last: go to a female gynecologist--they understand what you're talking about. Be well be your own best healthcare advocate.

I have an IUD! I’m in the UK so idk if it’s any different (I assume no) but I have a 5 year hormonal IUD called Mirena. I was actually recommended it because my periods were so heavy & irregular that I would literally bleed every day for MONTHS. I’ve had it for 4 years now & it was the BEST decision I ever made.
I have very light, regular periods now. No acne, no moodswings, no side affects! I will say, the insertion of the coil is 30 seconds of the most intense period pain you’ve had x3. But only 30 seconds & a woman’s mind is more powerful & just tell yourself to breathe through it. Happy to answer any questions because half of the population on this planet bleed & we’re all in this together 🥰

I've had my Mirena IUD for 5 years, and it's now been approved for longer. The nonhormonal copper IUD last even longer. You will hear more bad experiences than good just because people will post more about a bad experience. Everyones experiences are different. I took Aleve or advil before hand but I feel that it does not do anything. You should talk to your gyno about pain med options (anexiety/relaxers, numbing shot, numbing cream) I have a normal to high pain tolerance, it hurts but is definitly bearable. It was "toe curling" but not fainting/screaming pain. I would prefer an IUD insertion over having any stitches with no anesthetic (or having a baby😅). It will start off like a pap smear, then they will clamp your cervix to stabilize it (they will say a pinch but this hurts too), insert a measuring tool into your cervix to find the right length, and then insert the IUD the same way. The whole process should not take long. Usually you will feel a sharp pain for about 2 minutes during insertion, and cramping for a couple days after. It is recommended to schedule it while on your period so you cervix is slightly more open. A week later they will do an internal ultrasound to ensure proper placement. I had constant heavy spotting for 3 months, but have had no period or issues since and its been very effective. I think the pain is completely worth 7 years of not having to worry about birth control and I plan on getting another one. The pap smear should not hurt, maybe a light cramping when they swap the outside of your cervix. ALSO i LOVED the brain video.❤

    • @3ikilee
      @3ikilee Місяць тому +2

I had a similar experience with Mirena and thought it was great - I used it twice, and sure inserting it hurt (it’s your cervix after all) but then I had 10ish years of no cramps, low to no flow, and absolutely no possibility of missing a pill - I only stopped getting it replaced because I decided I no longer needed birth control.

Same I've had 2 in the last 12 years and it's been great I had spotting for almost 6 months after my first ever insertion but then nothing no period no cramps and most importantly no baby 😂 I recommend it to all my friends. You can ask your doctor for a pill that will soften your cervix. You take it the day of insertion so it's easier and less painful to insert.

Do not go with the IUD. I know experiences are different for everyone. But for me, it was awful. The insertion was extremely painful. No type of pain medication or anything. While it was in, it always felt like it was piercing something inside of me on my left sign and no one at the doctor’s office took my concerns seriously. Not the nurses there, not even the doctor who inserted it. I eventually just opted to get it taken out because something seriously felt wrong. They had an intern try to take it out and I was in tears it was so painful. The intern ended up not being able to pull it out so the doctor had to come do it. Once again, no type of pain management for that and I was in actual tears for that. I had it in for about 2 years and it was effective birth control but a painful, uncomfortable cost. Intercourse was painful. And now after it has been out for over a year, my periods are about 45 days long. I believe something is so messed up, and once again I am not taken seriously in the slightest with my concerns. It brings me to tears to even think about because I really feel as though it’s messed everything up. Anyways, just really think about it and try to see a doctor that will take your concerns seriously and not treat you like a child when you are a grown woman. Best of luck.

my gynaecologist and IUD experiences: the pap smear can be quite uncomfortable, they scratch off some tissue around your cervix, so make sure you take a deep breath! IUD wise I've had both a copper IUD (no hormones involved there) and now a hormone IUD (as it hinders the growth of my endometriosis tissues). I'd say the insertion can be really uncomfortable (it feels something being inserted somewhere where nothing should go, gross) and it might take a few weeks to get used to the IUD. But overall it's very much worth it!
The copper one can make your period a bit heavier, that's something to think about especially if that's already an issue for you. The hormones in the hormone one are much less concentrated as in birth control pills as they work locally and don't have to travel all the way through your body 🤪. I personally do have slightly more issues with my skin since the hormone IUD though 🙂

I've had the non-hormonal copper IUD for 3 years now. After being on the pill for YEARS (I also started taking it for acne as a preteen), I opted for a non-hormonal bc option. The most painful part of the insertion process for me was when they measured my cervix prior to actually inserting the IUD which was not what I was expecting. The pain was so short lived, I'm now delusional and don't remember it hurting that bad. I didn't really experience any abnormal spotting, but my period did get a little heavier (which is common with the non-hormonal IUD) I experience cramping on the first day of my period, but overall it is so worth it for me personally! No pregnancy scares, no hormones and my periods are manageable! I would definitely ask your gyno about the copper IUD too!

Having an IUD for three years made me gain and hold weight like crazy, stopped my period, didn’t help my acne, made me angry all the time, I got off and made me stop feeling emotions, when I got off of it I started my period again and felt happy and / or sad again but since getting it out over a year ago I haven’t been regular, and my body chemistry or something has changed bc when I do have my period I can’t use pads or tampons bc they give me a yeast infection every time. I wouldn’t recommend I just don’t think there’s enough research into birth control and how it affects women bc no one ever has a great experience and something is always wrong but that’s my hindsight opinion good luck !

I had an IUD for 2 years after constantly messing up my BC. If you decide to get one, ASK TO BE DILATED! The night before, my gyno prescribed me meds to take to dilate me (just slight cramping) and it made the insertion process soooo easy. Yes; there was pressure and discomfort but not bad whatsoever (because I was dilated). Fair warning that you’ll hear otherwise from people who weren’t. For me, the removal was far worse because no dilation.
Everyone is different. For me, it made me have zero s-drive (similar to BC) and I had a dark cloud of depression over my head daily until I got it out. But I have friends who have had no issues.

I got my IUD (gold IUD instead of the hormonal one) about a month ago and I was so scared before but luckily I had such a good experience!! I took hormonal birth control for almost 10 years and am soooo happy that i stopped. I had pain killers an hour before my IUD was put in + it was put in during my period since the cervic to the uterus is a bit more stretched then.
I had pain gel put directly at the cervix which I would 100% recommend doing so if your doctor offers it. It reduced the pain during the procedure and hours later enormously.
I had spotting for about 1-2 weeks and now am just super super super happy that I did it! Finally not thinking about taking the pill everyday + no hormoooones!!
Obviously it is a totally individual experience but luckily it’s not as harmful for every woman out there. ❤️

After a year I needed it out & come to find out it had dislodged itself or was placed wrong. Which is why I was in so much pain, and it was a terrible experience getting it removed as well. i've had two IUDs now. The first one, I had the paraguard with no hormones for 6 years. If you arent on any hormonal birth control, the transition is easy. If you go to non-hormonal your body basically purges. It took me about 6 months to re-regulate to no hormones but with the IUD. Honestly, it was just heavy periods that were consistent. But after that, it was easy sailing for the next 5 years until I decided to take it out to have a baby. My cycle was 4 days and light and I loved it. I was also able to get pregnant 2 months after removing the IUD, if thats something you might be considered or worried about in the future. Insertion was just a quick deep cramp that felt really weird, like a cramp in the deepest part of your body youve never felt before and then it was over. Pro -tip, it is easier and less painful when you schedule it to be inserted during your period since your cervix is thinner and more open. When I got it taken out, it was super easy and not painful at all. I got my second one put in while they were closing me up from my C-section. So no pain lol but I'm back to my typical cycle and no issues. I genuienly have had a good experience with paraguard and its the only birth control i'll do. But I have heard other people have different experiences.

  • @nicigiusto6124
    @nicigiusto6124 26 днів тому

I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years and it worked great. Didn't get a period for 2.5 of those years, but bled for the first 6 months, pretty much nonstop, it just got heavier during my "period" week, but never stopped for those first 6 months. CRAZY cramps first 8 hours after getting it, thought I might die from the pain or taking more ibuprophen that you're supposed to, but it passed really quickly. Getting it in was so painful I almost asked my gyno to stop, and I have a STRONG pain threshold, I'm able to dissociate from pain really well, but that pain I couldn't. I honestly imagine it is exactly what a labor contraction feels like because it was insane. But I got it in, the whole process from start to finish was less than 2 minutes, with the worst of the pain being maybe 15 seconds, but wow did it hurt. Once the 6 month mark had passed, I felt like I wasn't on birth control at all, since the hormones are so limited, but I would get really bad back pain pretty often, especially during what would've been my "period" time, so that was a trade off for no longer bleeding monthly. I do think I had a cyst at one point, which I had never had previously, but I googled the symptoms I had and it was exactly what came up. Sharp, intense stabbing pain a few inches below my belly button, and it stopped pretty quickly, so I think it must've burst and then luckily didn't happen again. So yeah.. it's a very mixed back imo, because with the hormone IUDs you'll probably have no period, metal ones I've heard almost no good stories about, I'd avoid those like the plague, but for every positive thing it kind of comes with a negative one as well. I got it out 3 years in because I would rather have a period than constant back pain, and as soon as I got it out the pain was gone. I wouldn't do it again, but I don't regret trying it out, my experience wasn't bad enough to say I regret it.

Because you asked, I had a copper IUD (non hormonal IUD) for 5 years and had a decent experience. Before getting it I already had pretty intense cramps every month and the copper IUD I was told would make them worse for about 6 months and then would go back to normal- it definitely made them worse / made my period heavier and did not go back to normal, but I kinda forgot what normal was and just dealt with it. I didn’t really notice until I got it out and didn’t have hardly any cramps and had a light period - forgetting what my “normal” was because it had been 5 years. So, it wasn’t amazing but not terrible either. I just used my heating pad religiously and took a lot of midol.
But I still would say I liked it because it’s the only option (that I know of) without hormones & I personally would rather have bad cramps for a few days a month. I took it out because I wanted to get pregnant and got pregnant the month after :) taking it out was not painful at all.

I have an IUD right now. The process of putting it in sucked. It felt fairly painful putting it in. My uterus was just BARELY big enough for it so I had to get an ultrasound at the check-up appointment to make sure it was still in. At the check-up appointment they noticed it started falling out so they had to take it out and put it back in which sucked because it hurt to take it out and put it back in and that meant I had to come in a third time, but at the third appointment it finally stayed in place and I feel fine right now. I like it because if you get the copper one like I have you can leave it in for up to 10 years so it's not like you have to remember to take a pill everyday and I heard it's one of the most effective forms. And my period cramps have only been super painful once so far. I'd recommend it.

14:11 100% truth! You can love a person but that is totally separate from if you should be with them! You should only be with them in a long term relationship if you love them AND you want the same things in life: same priorities, living situation, lifestyle, quality time together vs time apart etc. relationships are not about: so I like them and do they like me. Instead, one should ask themselves, “are we compatible enough to run a business together?” Because life and especially raising kids is literally like running a business together. How they deal with setbacks and how committed they are makes all the difference for the success of the business (relationship).

ALSO they need to be on the "same page" in life as her! which is what i came across in life that usually messes things up like if i was ready for kids but the guy was more just focused on moving on and to another state for his job and things like that. Most peeps know if they are looking for something serious in their lives and usually they arent which means they arent on the "Same page" in life, which sux THATS THE TRICKY PART :(

Ive had a great experience, got the Mirena in July 2022. Periods have not completely gone away for me but they’re incredibly, INCREDIBLY light and short and NO PAIN. EVER. They can get a little irregular at times. But Ill take that over everything else.
No negative or positive side effects or crazy changes other than that.
It felt like a few minutes of bad cramps when it was put in. Like a deep pressure. That was it. More uncomfortable than painful.

I'm currently on my second IUD. The first time I had one I was 6 weeks PP, it felt really fluent and sorta uncomfortable. Once that time was up and I needed a new one (five years later), I had it removed. I will say that it did hurt worse to have it removed but I hadn't just had a baby a few weeks before. Now when I had my second one put in a few months after it HURT, it was VERY uncomfortable for about 20 seconds. I did bleed after it was inserted and everything. Thats really the gist of having it put in and removed. Now the everyday effects of actually having it vary. With my first IUD I bled for 6 months straight, constantly on my period. But my second one has been fine. I don't really bleed because y'know its supposed to get rid of your periods. But, maybe TMI but when I DO actually bleed now its because its after the naked tango. But, IT DOES ITS JOB WELL. If you're looking to not get pregnant then get it. That is my only form of birth control and here I am many years later with no more kids. Hot dog straight OUT of the package and OVERCOOKED before taken out of the oven if you know what I mean and no kiddies in sight.
I hope that was at least helpful LOL

I’m 29, and I’ve had my IUD for 2-ish years now. I feel like you’re always gonna hear more horror stories about them online…simply because those stories are more “fun” to share (as compared to the positive, uneventful stories).
It hurt to get put in, but I’ve definitely experienced more painful period cramps before! It’s a different kind of pain, but nothing unbearable and it doesn’t last long. I cramped a bit for a few days/a week afterwards, but it truly wasn’t bad at all. I’ve got a pretty low pain tolerance, and have always been blessed with very mild periods, and I would still consider my IUD insertion to just be mild to moderate pain. For the girls who are used to having painful periods, I feel like an IUD would be so easy!
I have LOVED mine. Made my periods a bit worse for a couple months but then they really leveled out, to the point where I basically have zero period now, and very few PMS symptoms at all! I love being able to just forget about it and know that I’m still being protected for the remaining years that mine will last.

Glass hacks: use a cut open raw potato and press it into the tiles. It'll pick up even little pieces of glass and they stick in the potato + then you clean behind it with paper towels n then cleaning products. ❤

After some initial bad experiences with birth control, I got a Mirena IUD 6ish years ago. When this one needs to be removed, I will be happily replacing it with another one. It works for me and I love it. I gained a lot of weight on other birth controls and had crazy mood swings. The IUD has helped my PCOS symptoms without any noticeable side effects. I honestly forget about it 99% of the time. Plus for me it completely got rid of my periods and I really like not having them because I had really bad cramps when I did. Insertion is uncomfortable. I was given a tylenol about 30 mins before, but there was some pain but nothing unbearable and insertion was over in probably 10-15 minutes. Basically enough pain to just make my eyes water, but nothing crazy. Then for a few days after I had some cramping. When I got it, it was approved for 5 years to prevent pregnancy. However ongoing research and trials on it has caused that to be increased it's now up to 8 years. Personally 15 minutes of paid and a few days of cramping to not have to worry about it for 8 years has been really worth it.
