Those boys.... You really get to hear the full beauty of the track like this. Their careful, combined use of synths, keyboard and 'real' instruments and vocal layering is so gorgeous.
I saw them at Massey Hall in Toronto when this album came out. It was a great live show and the could replicate the album, live, very well. They had Mel Gaynor on drums- awesome drummer. Curt's guitar playing was really good- nailed it.
Living in the 80s for the first decade of my life is a blessing I’ll never take for granted. The track to my childhood is just unreal and we didn’t realize at the time that the 80s and 90s were the peak of human creativity music wise not to mention all the pop culture stuff that we just can’t replicate these days no matter how we try. Just awesome memories are left….and of course the UA-cam Time Machine we all love so much

Agreed, in the (rather toxic) 1980s froth about how brilliant roland was etc (of course he WAS talented) they lost sight of Curt's skills and his subtle but powerful contribution to the band. Watch them live now... to my mind Curt rules it!
I think his subtle musical contribution to the group was more substantial and influential than he is often given credit for, with the sometimes-toxic 'adoration of Roland'.
I always thought that maybe if he felt more encouraged to songwrite he could have produced some amazing stuff. But Roland was so prolific and powerful maybe he felt he couldn't compete. Even so, their dual chemistry was vital to the songwriting process because Roland would often write for Curt's unique voice. Or would use Curt to help shape his ideas. Or their fraught relationship would produce impassioned lyrics. Haha. Truly without putting a pen to paper Curt already contributed so much to their catalogue. But he writes a lot for them now! Looking forward to their new album this February!!!

Wow what an incredible find... I always liked this song as a young kid in the early 80's and i never heard this version until today, really like finding lost treasure.
I think the downvotes are from people challenging the veracity of this mix. To me it sounds like it tries really hard to be period, and whoever made it should be proud of the effort, but it was done from compressed stems (like from a Rock Band rip, or something), and not actually from the time. It's a little unsettling to hear this without the echo effect on Roland's voice; kind of like seeing an old friend and suddenly they're missing a body part.
