I agree 100%!👍 In a way, the Police were being subversive by taking their well-known signature tones & the general bright mix heard in most 80s hits (by many bands), while telling a rather unnerving story! IMHO, choosing different tones for the synths (*) & gtrs (or giving it more of a blues-related beat) could instantly transform this song into a song that creates great discomfort in the listener.🤔 (*)For example, using the Emulator II "Marcato Strings" heard in the Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls" and Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach"?🤔

Andy came up with the brilliant guitar with the quick delay time which is what made the song a phenomenal hit in my opinion. They left a drum machine to play the bass drum throughout the track for some odd reason.
