Toyota Corolla Sedan review

  • The Toyota Corolla sedan is bigger and better than ever before - and it may come as a shock to some buyers just how much bigger the new sedan is compared with the hatch, or frankly any of similarly priced competition.
For the thinkers, the Corolla makes a lot of sense - it has that legendary Toyota reliability and its backed by a capped price servicing scheme, though maintenance is scheduled every six months and a three-year/100,000km warranty is four years short of best-in-class.
But it convincingly trumps the competition for interior space - and that’s a big deal for buyers of not-so-small sedans.

I have owned a 2008 model Corolla from new and it has been very reliable. Sick of people calling them boring. There is nothing boring about a reliable car.

Except they are boring. A good driving car with a powerful engine and responsive transmission doesn’t come at the cost of reliability, provided it’s also Japanese. Case in point: the Mazda3. It’s Australia’s best selling small car for PRIVATE BUYERS. Toyotas sell in larger numbers outright as a good chunk of them go to become fleet cars painted in Taxi White in base spec. Mazda3 outsells it in the private market, and those buyers often opt for higher model grades. A Corolla is just A to B transport, a Mazda3 for the same money proves that you can have a small reliable affordable car that isn’t an underpowered grandma’s car with a bland interior.

Mazda 3 stiff suspension, I personally enjoy a softer quieter more refined ride. My 2008 Toyota Corolla is a good cruising car

When someone starts running down a Corolla,my defence is very simple."The Corolla has continually been the top seller in the world for so many years.I proudly agree and understand why those millions of people bought a Corolla.I being one of them, have nothing more to add." Michael Einkamerer.

U blokes the Corolla is the best selling car of ALL TIME. No other car has sold more than the Corolla. Not even close mate.

It’s just semantics. It’s because they kept the nameplate unchanged, just like the Golf. Mazda went from 323 to 3, Hyundais sell hatches as i30s and sedans as Elantra’s. Toyota got here by selling the same brand for hatch, sedan and wagon across 50 odd years. It doesn’t mean anything to todays car, that they just kept a nameplate going.

Toyota corolla sales by volume out number sales of total Mazda brand.

I can't help but feel this version is better built with a more solid "feel" versus the one we have in the U.S. Especially models built in Ontario, Canada.

As an Aussie that has lived in the u.s. there is no comparison between u.s.built Toyota's and Japanese or Thai built ones. The u.s. ones are very low quality and packaging.

thank u for the review. unfortunately it was extremely one sided n really did little in the way of objective criticism or comparisons by point of reference to other manufacturers in this class. but thanks all the same.

I can't believe you mentioned the 80's-style digital clock as a "nice touch" instead of a poor design choice. It symbolizes all that's wrong with Toyota's - functional but oh so dull.
