Nice to see you back Rick. The dolfins 6:57 take me back to the mid 90’s. Me and a friend were surfing on Rottnest Island in Australia. A pod of dolphins swam with us for about 15 minutes, good times. Don’t leave it too long for your next video. 👍🏻👊🏻
I’m glad to see you posting again, Rick. But I am very amused by all of the Florida neoprene at those temps. My last session on my Placid here in Maine was at 39 water temp and the air an unusually warm 35. I suspect that Florida now is like New England summer. Thanks for keeping the sup stoke alive and for providing a glimpse of your beautiful winter location.
Hi John, glad you are enjoying your Placid! I did get sidelined this fall with an eye operation, so out of the water for a while. All good now! More videos in the pipe, they will start to drop with regularity! I do not miss the extreme cold... except for flatwater paddling. I do love those days in the teens with zero wind, when the estuaries are still and serene. Wildlife slows down and being on the water is soulful
Florida here, but spent summers in Maine back in the day. The water here in FL never gets close to NE temps. Coolest is maybe low 70s. I remember 90 degree days in Maine with a packed beach but only a handful of people in the water because the ocean temp never got higher than the mid fifties. The air temp might be a bit cool here in FL, but these guys will never have to deal with cold water 🤣
@@jimmyfun22 I was "lucky" to start surfing in the mid 60's when there was no thought to wetsuits at all, you just accepted the cold water as part of surfing. Accepting that surfing came with a degree of discomfort has stuck with me for life. I can pull a frozen wetsuit out of a trunk and put it on standing outside in a 15* snowstorm and not even blink. @@rickweeks I am looking for a paddle size to catch more waves 😁 aren’t we all but I have had the same paddle for many years which is a Naish Carbon Plus 85 blade which I am not sure what that translates to.
Hi John, it was great talking SUP with you! I hope you ended up with a board the suits you! Apologies, I must have missed the latest contact... thanks for checking in on me! Yup, alive and well 😄
Rick, I’ve looked at a lot of your videos and they are amazing. I’d like to ask what your actual home break is these days. I live in Maui and ride a Jimmy Lewis Hanalei. I am 6’1” and 188lbs. This board allows me to ride in waves as small as 1 foot high. Anyhow, great what you have come up with!
Hi Pixel, my home break is always Cape Cod, even when I am in Florida all winter.(this video is in Florida) On Cape Cod, our sandbars are special at producing good waves from minimal swell and prevailing wind is offshore! The breaks are protected by a large number of Great Whites hunting inside the surf zone, which keeps the crowds down most of the time. The Ghost is exceptional at maximizing potential in small to medium surf!
Thanks Daniele! Mounted on the Stiff brim of a Trucker Cap with full chin strap I designed this mount years ago and made a video about it. The only cam I use is an old Hero Sessions5 (tiny and perfect for a hat mount) I highly suggest finding a used one! In this video, the cam was actually set up with a more "Right Bias" that day because I forgot to adjust it for the mostly left break, so it missed much of the shoulder on the lefts. Hat info in the video is no longer accurate anymore because Da Kine does not make a stiff brim Trucker cap any longer. My old hat is wearing out and thus, too much shaking in the video. I am ordering an FCS "Surf Trucker Wet Cap" with stiff brim. I hope it will handle the cam as well as the old Da Kine!! Link to my Kook Hat Cam ua-cam.com/video/nCiANANgGTQ/v-deo.html
