I remember meeting Mr. Borgnine back around 1976 when I was a kid. He was in Playa del Rey, CA filming Future Cop. There were a bunch of kids wanting his autograph. I came up and asked, "May I please have your autograph?" Mr. Borgnine looked at me with a big smile and said, "That's the way to do it!" He right away signed an autograph for me. I've never forgotten how kind he was.

I opted this remarkably engaging man chatting up the wait staff. I didn’t realize who he was at first and the. saw that big gap toothed smile and a waiter asking him to sign a menu and put it together. He just had phenomenal positive energy and presence. Once in a while you encounter someone with that bright inner light and Mr. Borgnine was surely one of those.
Ernie looked great for 95. He was certainly proud of his vehicle, i am glad he enjoyed it to the very end. He was a wonderful actor and was in many classic motion pictures.
@ronnie doorzon Yes he lived to be 95, but this documentary wasnt made in 2012, look at the clothing and the trucks, what an amazing guy, in 2012 the year he died he voiced a character in the Lion of Judah
Just a regular guy that made a few bucks in the entertainment industry. No fakeness or BS. It's wonderful to see how welcoming and down to earth he was. God Bless.
Nice guy. Down to earth. Definitely not the Hollywood type. He stopped by our campground in Pennsylvania years ago. Just a regular guy enjoying life. RIP.
I remember seeing a show where he was being pranked and he arrived home to find his house wrapped in a huge fumigation tent. He enquired politely what was going on and was told his house was infested with an insect that had to be eradicated before it spread in the US. He then asked how long before he could get back inside his home and was told a few days. Instead of going into" the don't you know who I am" or having a tantrum he simply said I suppose we can go and stay in a hotel for a few days. It was a show that preyed on people acting badly in a stressful situation, it flopped with Ernie as he was so polite, and understanding and remained calm and reasonable the whole time.
Yes I have seen Ernie in so may movies ,acting the bad guy it would be strange to me to see him calm. I would be disappointed not seeing him turn that character of the wild guy . ( Like his part in " Bad Day at Black Rock")
This is the best piece of information which I can use in my feature talks in the church about being a nice human being and a gentleman. Thanks brother. Salisbury Park ,Pune.

@@bobd9868 I would say this was filmed mid 1990's given the style of TV in the bus and also his age. He died in 2012 at age 95 ... he looks more like mid 70's in this clip. Also read somewhere that this bus was for sale and it was manufactured in 1994.
What a great guy. I knew he was a great actor, but it’s lovely to see he was such a regular good guy. I’m glad he seemed to be a happy and fulfilled chap, with a good family life.

Awesome. My grandfather told me stories about hanging out with ernest in the 40,s when he was in the service and would get leave, he said ernest was one of the most down home people he ever met and that he never got angry about being approached by fans. R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine, Yesterday Sept 6th, 2018 another favorite actor of mine passed Mr. Burt Reynolds. Thanks for posting this video a thousand THUMBS up!!.
Ernest Borgnine was a tremendously talented actor who is sadly missed after his passing. I loved him in everything he was in, whether television or film. Today’s actors have nothing on him. Ernest outclassed and out acted them all.
My wife & I met him in the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville, TN. He was with George Lindsey(Goober), they both were very kind & down to earth. I know it must be hard to be famous like that & go out somewhere always knowing that people will notice you & want an autograph or a picture with you. I just told them both thanks & shook their hands. Really enjoyed this video. Just nice to see them both doing well back then. Nowadays so many stars seem to be out of touch with the world around them.
Ernest has always appeared to me as a good guy. In the few interviews he's done and one the silver screen. Not the typical Hollywood snob. Like Tom Selleck. They should happen to be actors and in show biz. :) Plus Ernest and his wife have to mix with "regular folk" driving across the country. Wouldn't be doing this if they weren't comfortable or Hollywood snobs.

@Josh - I see no reason why he might not have been a nice guy. I worked in the audio and video recording industry. Ive worked with many more famous musicians and actors than most people. Many of them are nice. None of them were down to earth. They have no idea what life is like for the little guy. They only know they would pay any price to have to avoid returning to living an ordinary middle class life.
John Parker he was a veteran meaning he probably worked pretty hard in his old days. With that I think it’s safe to assume that he knows what it’s like to put hard work in and understands both worlds. In general I’d say he’s probably the one of the most down to earth guys I’ve ever seen.
All your comments are spot on , A classic of a man and personality, Is truly missed by many. Used to have to be in the house at 7:30 friday pm for Mc Hales navy, Even in the summer , And we were !
We will always remember you Mr Borgnine and the joy you brought to us whilst growing up. There will never be another actor like you as you are the best and very much truly missed. RIP Ernest.
Mr. Borgnine reminds me of my father inlaw. He was a WW 2 navy vet, and loved being in the navy. Down to Earth loved his cars. He also loved driving and traveling. He wasn't afraid of trying new things and lived his life to the fullest. Many of these guys have passed away and I miss the greatest generation. We could use more guys like this today.
He passed away on July 8th, 2012 at age 95. Not sure when this video was shot but it says January 21, 2012. Like to think he was driving his rig at 95! RIP
Really nice and well made...my dream to live in one like that...to travel.and see the US before I can't any longer..she's a beauty..thanks for sharing your fun bus...
All my tough guy heroes sadly have passed away.As of writing this Clint Eastwood is the only one left.Feel blessed to have grown up as a kid back in the 70s watching guys such as Ernest Borgnine wreck havoc on the big screen in their prime.Feel even luckier to be able to see Ernest on you tube being a regular, cool down to earth guy. Really makes you miss being a kid again. How quickly the time goes by.
Joe Flynn was the star, Tim Conway was the second star, but EB was the perfect straight man, the glue who held the ship together, not forgetting Bob Hastings (Carpy), the sychophant of all sycophants,..great casting.
I love your bus, it's awesome, I remember when I was a kid going on camping trips with our motor home, great fun !!! So sad that he passed after making this video, so many will miss him!!!💞☀
He passed the year this video was put on UA-cam, but not when the video was shot, which was 17 years earlier in 1995. He was 78 then and eventually died at the age of 95 in 2012.
@@JosephGibson Not leftism, that's a cop out. You are sounding like Captain Binghamton looking for a scapegoat. The powerful have gotten more powerful, the super rich have gotten ever richer. Mediocrity is rife in the arts and entertainment industries,... having the right look is more important than substance. If Mchale's Navy had never been and turned up tomorrow for the first time on your TV, the character of McHale would look nothing like EB. The lead would more likely have chiselled facial features and a buffed body because that look is perceived as generating dollars. Superficiality is the order of the day in 2020,...stay safe!
Proud as a peacock about his motor home. Gee,Ernie.wearing his blue stretch jeans & laughing...just like any other Senior across America. Got to love 'em. The Angels must have welcomed Ernie with open arms.
Most young people couldn't say anything about the older actors, just as I couldn't tell you who these young actors are. But, in my generation they were loved & admired and will be remembered forever...
Damn, Ernie. Just happened upon this video and it was bittersweet. It's good to see you again but reminds me of all our friends who are gone now. I wish I'd known the last time we saw each other was going to be the last time we saw each other. You are missed.
i met him in alaska when he was on vacation at the bird cage or bird nest bar the bar was slanted from the earthquake yrs ago we took a picture together what a great guy
Me and 2 of my friends stopped at that bar back in '78-79 when we were stationed at Elmendorf after a day of fishing. There was a French horn kind of looking thing by a window and friends told me that if you blew it, quail would come out for a free handout. I blew the horn....getting a face full of sawdust! Yeah, it was a gag the owner has played or seen played on more than one visitor.
This man was beautiful inside and out. He loved life truly, plus he was a great character actor. Just watch Marty, Airwolf or Escape From New York. You can tell he enjoyded that bus all around!
In the late 1980’s I had a friend that bought a big bus RV that traveled all the states, said he parked near another big bus RV and sat around the fire chatting then realized it was Ernest B.
Ron Williams i was guessing early 1990s since he had a early 90s Ford Explorer like 91 or 92. The cockpit reminds me of the EEDC in Airwolf all the buttons and gadgets
*Pastor Paul D:* Read *RealFarknMcCoy's* comment above - apparently this video was filmed in 1995 when Mr. Borgnine was 78. He still looked good at that age anyways!
My uncle got to meet Ernie back in the early 80's,my uncle owned a optical eyecare center in Soldotna , Alaska. When Ernie was in Alaska on a fishing trip in Soldotna he stopped in my uncle eyecare center to have his glasses repaired.I was a teenager then i thought it was cool he got to meet Ernie.
I've been playing these videos of Borgnine on the road, over and over again. His voice is comforting to me. I grew up watching his films, as I did Gene Hackman's, Clint Eastwoods, etc etc. I miss those days and those that were there then. Watching these Borgnine videos feels the same as watching home videos made by my parents so many, many years ago. Too much change.
Enjoyed him in the Dirty Dozen and Airwolf. He was obviously a down to earth guy, can not imagine him chatting it up on cb radio, pretty cool. You were a true American sir
Great man great father, great friend and most of all great actor watched his shows and movies, a real American Hero. Rest in peace sir you are missed always. It would have been an honor to meet you. SJ
I liked Ernie since in the 50's when I was a young man. The movies that I saw, impressed me as his personality came through and he was indeed of good personality and character. Memories of a great actor and a friendly nice fellow.
For all the 40+ here, isn’t it incredible to see the stars of the 70’s -80’s in real life moments. Didn’t have that access obviously so it’s really cool to see them off camera.
He died in 2012 at 95 years old. Thanks for sharing. This video had to be from the 80's or 90's. Always like that episode of Magnum P.I. where he played a wrestler.
I met Mr. Borgnine back in the 1960's at a party in LA, when I was just a kid. He was filming McHale's Navy at the time. I remember him fondly as a a truly great, honorable, and decent gentleman with a heart of gold! God speed Mr. B! When we lost you, we lost a national treasure!
You can tell that Ernie loved his bus.And he does like to travel. He was such a nice man.R.I.P Ernest Borgnine you are missed.

In general I’d say he’s probably the one of the most down to earth guys I’ve ever seen.
watched the whole series with the sun bum, brilliant insight into a great actor.
All your comments are spot on , A classic of a man and personality, Is truly missed by many. Used to have to be in the house at 7:30 friday pm for Mc Hales navy, Even in the summer , And we were !
Great guy. I miss him. One of the few actors who could play funny or dark characters and both convincingly.
We will always remember you Mr Borgnine and the joy you brought to us whilst growing up. There will never be another actor like you as you are the best and very much truly missed. RIP Ernest.
I loved him and Tim Conway in McHales Navy TV show!
WD - I JUST got a look at this and ALL I can hear over his very familiar voice was the McHale's Navy theme song, playing over and over again.......
Earnest was always a Class Act and Real.
Dang , I wish I would have met him.
Yep
10-4 good buddy remember keep on trucking and keep the rubber side truck driver 10-4
Over the years I have had a growing appreciation of Ernest Borgnine. I loved his small role in R.E.D. Great guy!
Thank you ernest for all the great movies.
I've liked this guy ever since McHales navy first came out.
from here to eternity was a good one too
and airwolf too
Me too. Watched that show 6:00 am in the morning, before I go to school.
You must see Marty. Beautiful movie.
I looked forward to watch6that show!
Last of the great actors. Love Ernest. Poseidon Adventure, great movie. We need to see more of him
Tim Fowler you could always know that if he was in a movie.... It would be a great one to see
Loved him in the Devil's Rain with William Shatner, Tom Skeritt and John Travolta.
Mr. Borgnine was 80 years old when he filmed this.
He was pretty robust for an 80 year old. Good genes, lived to 95.
He also road horses like he was doing the wild bunch movie again. Icon.
He passed away on July 8th, 2012 at age 95. Not sure when this video was shot but it says January 21, 2012. Like to think he was driving his rig at 95! RIP
@@jeffg8482 no way this video was shot in 2012. This is for sure the early to mid 90's going by the vehicles.
@@gradyeilers7533 Good point and I did say I was "not sure when this video was shot",just what it stated. Thank you and excellent observation!
Seems like a nice guy. Great way to spend your senior years traveling around the country.
I grew up watching this guy...i miss this generation...as a boy they made me feel safe and strong
MAMA! MWAHHHH MWAAHH
Lovely video clip !
R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine - You will be sorrowfully missed !
RIP Ernie.
A true gentleman.
Regards.
Oz.
Man l wish l would have run into him, he was one of my favorite actors. I loved McHale's Navy with Tim Conway and the gang!
He was also in the U.S. Navy for ten years!
Tom is gone now too. Sad May they Rest in Peace!
Tim Not Tom, my mistake.
So sad that he passed after making this video, so many will miss him!!!💞☀
Loved Ernie too!! You could hear the labored breathing
Sad that he passed that same year. He was a great actor
He passed the year this video was put on UA-cam, but not when the video was shot, which was 17 years earlier in 1995. He was 78 then and eventually died at the age of 95 in 2012.
@@FTStratLP Thanks for the correction. I just saw the 2012.
He seemed to be such a nice man. Really a class act.
Met him mid 90s, talked for quite a bit. He was exactly the nice guy you think he was.
I was on cape cod when I saw this big guy getting gas on rt 6A/rt134 I went over and said hi he was very nice
See gang? Not so long ago, celebrities were just regular people... Unlike today. Sad.... R.I.P., Ernie.
I was thinking the same thing. How did we go from this great guy and WWII veteran to the self-absorbed creeps we have in Hollyweird today?
@@1notgilty leftism
@@JosephGibson winner
@@JosephGibson Not leftism, that's a cop out. You are sounding like Captain Binghamton looking for a scapegoat. The powerful have gotten more powerful, the super rich have gotten ever richer. Mediocrity is rife in the arts and entertainment industries,... having the right look is more important than substance. If Mchale's Navy had never been and turned up tomorrow for the first time on your TV, the character of McHale would look nothing like EB. The lead would more likely have chiselled facial features and a buffed body because that look is perceived as generating dollars. Superficiality is the order of the day in 2020,...stay safe!
you probably don't know any celebrities
Ernie was such a beautiful soul, and wonderful man. The world was a better place with him in it. Rest in peace.
Proud as a peacock about his motor home. Gee,Ernie.wearing his blue stretch jeans & laughing...just like any other Senior across America. Got to love 'em. The Angels must have welcomed Ernie with open arms.
Ernie was one of the very very few Hollywood actors I'd of loved to have met. Great guy. May he rest in peace.
IKR??He had the look of a man who had a great love of life.
I met him and his wife. He really was a great guy. I'm not just saying that. He would talk to me as long as I wanted to.
@Ilich Ramirez Sanchez You mean "I'm a douche" don't you?

God bless you Ernie, I'll bet I've spent 1,000 hours enjoying your movies and TV shows. Thank you.
What a great guy.I miss Ernie.
Yep
10-4
Most young people couldn't say anything about the older actors, just as I couldn't tell you who these young actors are. But, in my generation they were loved & admired and will be remembered forever...
Really nice down to earth guy just like his wife Tova was xxx
Damn, Ernie. Just happened upon this video and it was bittersweet. It's good to see you again but reminds me of all our friends who are gone now. I wish I'd known the last time we saw each other was going to be the last time we saw each other. You are missed.
I sure do miss him. We don't have many Hollywood types like him anymore.
i met him in alaska when he was on vacation at the bird cage or bird nest bar the bar was slanted from the earthquake yrs ago we took a picture together what a great guy
Oh my god . Lucky you .. It's impossible for me now ..I always wanna meet him
Me and 2 of my friends stopped at that bar back in '78-79 when we were stationed at Elmendorf after a day of fishing. There was a French horn kind of looking thing by a window and friends told me that if you blew it, quail would come out for a free handout. I blew the horn....getting a face full of sawdust! Yeah, it was a gag the owner has played or seen played on more than one visitor.
Fellow Air Force Veteran " Happy Veterans Day ! & Thank You for your Service as well !
Great actor in the movie, Martie! In which he earned an Oscar for best actor , great movie!
Sure was great in the poseidon adventure too..mr rogo...awesome performance
I remember that movie ❤️he was such a genuine guy, evan when acting 🎭 I love this guy
Marti 🎭🎭🎭
He was 95 years old in this video, still stomping around and living it to the fullest. Died six months later, but God bless him.
Ron Williams 95 in this video? He looked great, what a wonderful man.
This was filmed in 1995!
He was 78 in this video, which was filmed in 1995.
Fun Fact: he played mermaid man too
I've been playing these videos of Borgnine on the road, over and over again.
SJ
One of the most talented actors, ever, and a truly remarkable human being. Rest in God’s eternal peace, Mr. Borgnine.
I loved this video...thanks for putting it on youtube!
He died in 2012 at 95 years old. Thanks for sharing. This video had to be from the 80's or 90's. Always like that episode of Magnum P.I. where he played a wrestler.
Beautiful
A big fan of Mr. Borgnine and McHale's Navy, may he rest in peace.
Wow loved him in The Dirty Dozen and The Wild Bunch!!
It's beautiful. And very cosy. Thank-you for showing us around your precious Bus.
