- Yeah, I said I wouldn't but what the heck, let's give the fake AliXpress 5Dev cranks (FauxDev!) a try on the carbon Chiner mullet. I mean they look pretty sweet right?
I'm sure this will work out great and there will be no problems at all!

We have set. They are going on the test machine. We will send you the results. 🤣
Thanks, I look forward to seeing the results!
You should also test the Evosid Dub varient too
What are the results ?
These are very similar to the AC Components cranks from the late 1980's. They were prone to snapping in half. Happened to me. I believe they were CAST billet aluminum, not forged billet.
Also had Grafton cranks. 400 grams. Also cast billet and prone to spiderweb shattering... after just a few rides, numerous hairline cracks at the bottom bracket interface. On two sets, both replaced under warranty. Both had a lifetime warranty, both went bankrupt. Probably due to serious injuries.
I snapped the AC Components cranks in half during a moderate speed tree stump to alley gap jump. Upon landing the drive side crank sheared in half and went tumbling down the sidewalk along with the pedal. Got very lucky and rode out of it.
With the tapered axle part being so short, it is likely that it bottoms out and starts to press against the bolt too early. No amount of torque will then help, because any extra torque will not cause the tapered surfaces to move - they've already bottomed out! That extra torque will only tension the bolt threads.
Thanks for sharing this!
The biggest explanation is Chinesium "metal", Be worth going for a torque up without grease though. Theres 2 torque settings, wet torque and dry torque. Wet torque is normally lower than dry due to increased pressure from the grease/oil/fluid medium. Admittedly they still shouldnt have snapped so easily
Products like this have to be removed from online marketplaces. It's claiming it's something it's not, and its dangerously bad. I don't have anything against brands that make their won product, and sell it cheap, but plagiarism, and dangerous products have no place on the market.
Totally if they are sold as real they should be seized by customs, in principle. Thing is usually they are not branded 5dev, the ones I got are "evosid" 😂
I have purchased the fake intend grace stem to compare with the real thing, the way you install this stem (prying it open with wood shims) is pretty unnerving for a 200$ part, would I use the 60$ fake? Nooooo 😂
@@LaurentiusTriarius I sure wouldn't.
@@LaurentiusTriarius wood shims! Oh man I have to look for that.
Nice, I bet they upgrade them thanks to your fine review.
It's like the spindle/crank interface is missing those flat wedges like some bmx cranks have
The same failure occurred for me! The bolt is cast aluminum and needs to be forged aluminum so that it can withstand torque required to tighten crank arms.
Yeah. I guess I could hit the hardware store and try to find a bolt but I don't think I will.
Steel bolts
Cast from low grade aluminum, not forged nor heat treated. Basically made of cheese.
Sounds about right
See my comment above. Tons of components in the late 80's were made from CAST billet aluminum, made in America, and nearly all were prone to catastrophic failure. All were lifetime warrantied and all went bankrupt. I still have a set of Nuke Proof hubs that are riddled with hairline cracks. Tried to warranty them but, they were already bankrupt, and later sold.
The ones (evosid branded) I got are on my beater hardtail, the spindle is DUB sized came with the boos 6mm of spacers total, they are tight in place. Okay this bike didn't see much use but everything is still tight, torqued to 40 nm
I guess QC is an issue, who would have thought 😂
EVOSID is spline interface, not square like in the vid.
Why do you feel dirty? He didn’t make him I mean they’re just cranks dude use them. I look pretty as long as they perform. Well that’s all that really matters.
Suntour zeron 1X cranks have the same type of crank interface
I want to see you test the bucklos 5dev copies
@@edwardvandenberg3004 I have, check the other videos
I really don’t understand why these companies don’t make a better product. They can 3D scan and measure every bit of it, but they just have zero RD and most don’t ride or anything so they don’t know the products. But that’s a simple hurdle to overcome. So I really don’t get it and I lived in China for 10 years. Learning about cultural, social, environmental attributes that create the type of culture they are in. And I understand so much about pride and negotiations that just seem outlandish when I first began checking it out. I just don’t understand why they make products that are 90% of of a good product product yet fall short. And they’re doing this to make money they want people to buy more of it. It doesn’t make any sense. Many of these companies use proper machine and equipment and materials. They just miss the detail of development.
I apologize those are garbage. You know you know what they would look nice in the trashcan because they fell. You were right I apologize.
What’s wrong with 36T? With how big first gear cogs are getting, 36T seems pretty short
Nah man, for short crank arms you need less teeth not more. I've tried 36 on 165s already and it was not good.
Is there a link to purchase these cranks, would mind trying them on my commuter
were these branded as 5Dev, or just generic?
If they weren't branded 5Dev I wouldn't say, counterfeit cranks but rather homage cranks
Oh no, they were branded with the logo and everything.
@@VisionMTB damn! I don't mind a counterfeit watch, but I'm not messing around with fake MTB products. I used to work in a shop and guys would bring in fake Cervelo frames for us to build up and we would refuse.
I mean, if you just riding in the trail because you wanna show show off stuff if you’re showing off your skills rather than a comp
I ride SX cranks on my trail bike because they are very cheap and reliable, when they look like shit you just throw them away, can't beat that price and if someone judge me I pop a manual to endo; "can you do that?" Usually it's a no 😂
5dev cant even make theirs correctly, ill be damned to trust a knockoff one.
5dev cranks are garbage and brake all the tme, so I'm sure knock offs are even worse. Any company that doesn't allow comments on posts is covering something up. Stay away from 5dev.
Hmm, that's interesting. I hadn't heard that before.
Nope, wouldn't even waste the time.....fun vid.though....lol!
Get your money back.
Alixpress, not worth the hassle.
@@VisionMTB I understand, it is more of a principle. I always try to get my money back from Aliexpress no matter how small the amount. I've ordered lots of parts from them. Good thing you were not injured.
