    Adrienne made a good point. The definition of "wife material" has changed over time.

    • @janedough6410
      @janedough6410 6 років тому +63

      I think the traditional definition is the same. However the term is relative per individual. As men grow up not witnessing traditional representation, their idea of "wife" changes -- aesthetics over qualities.

      @@janedough6410 that's def not true many men grew up seeing traditional settings and still rather a woman that contributes more than staying home and cooking which is great but doesnt work in our world. Back before the 60s women could be home makers and live off their husbands salary. I'd love to stay home with my kids instead of having them thrown in daycare and I love to cook and was raised to know cleanliness is next to Godliness. BUT we could never survive off my husbands salary and most families couldnt survive off the husbands salary. Most men especially in my generation with a middle wage income that wants children is going to choose a woman that works hard and beings in money as being wifey material hands down. My grandma finds that crazy and has always told us paying half the Bill's isnt for wives it's for roommates but shes from a different generation. That isnt working in ours. Time and time again the couples I see where the woman insists the man takes care of her ends up cheated on and left unless her man is making 6 figures because men rather a woman paying half the Bill's so they can live comfortably, go out and enjoy each other than having no money paying all the Bill's on his income and being stuck home every day off

    • @janedough6410

      Possibly too literal. The term "wifey material" in this context are young ladies that possess qualities for an ideal wife. Most guys inquire when they're serious and have their life in order. Finances is not a factor. Young ladies get this title while in school, and it doesn't mean to be a housewife. RE: Grandma - She's right IMO. When you're married tabs shouldn't be "half" because it's combined incomes. One or the other pays. Half is for an acquaintance. Some of us pay full tabs for friends. Your spouse take hierarchy.

      @@janedough6410 ain't nothing wrong with both parties paying the bills and both taking care of the house. My aunt and her husband chose to do that : combine their salaries to pay the bills and stuff and they both cook and clean etc so no one in society should put a standard of what and husband and wife material is like do what you want

      @@cecemac988 idk what you are talking about but idc who I'm married to, they better have a source of income cause nowadays, its so expensive to just live. The stereotypical stuff is ridiculous like fixing a car, opening the door, paying for dates, etc. However, I think the reason why having a job and paying the bills is a lot of women's standards is because sometimes their income is not enough to support both people. (and that's without kids) So i don't think wanting the person to have a job is a bad thing. (as long as you aren't being hypocritical and wanting them to pay for you the rest of your life)

(aka, having a preference which is perfectly fine) Only sexist people use that term and that's few and far. From what I've heard its more men saying that though but either way your point doesn't make any sense because that term, "its a woman's/mans job to do this," is never if rarely used.

    • @cecemac988

      Grace S is you’ve never heard these phrases that’s fine but I hear them all the time. You mentioned preference earlier. That’s my point. If a man “prefers” a woman who can cook, clean and wants children why do so many women get offended and say that’s sexist? If he thinks all a woman is worth is cooking, cleaning and breeding then yes, thats wrong. But otherwise I don’t get the outrage?

Don't make me complicit in the marginalization of other women because they might not fit into what is a man's ideal for a wife. Also I have a lot of aspirations and qualities I want to be respected for before being a good wife.

      Thank you EllaBelle18. I'm so tired of men looking for qualities like their mom that they fail to see anything else inside of me. I met a guy years ago that didn't even know my full name or anything about me, knew him for about 2 hours and he decided I was the one, meanwhile he was married and tried to hide it. He started talking about me being a step mother to his kids and I had no clue he had kids or other women with his kids. He felt by the 3 questions he asked me, through a text and 2 hours of hanging around me was enough for him to come to the conclusion of making me an option. He thought he knew me. I find that a lot of men are looking for "Mom material" not wife material. My ex thought I was his mother. He had no plans of marrying me or anything or providing. He was lazy AF after we lived together for a few months. Which snuck up on me. He wanted me to be the man in the relationship and be his mother and every other title. I got rid of his sorry ass, he wasn't like that at first but he waited until I did better in life financially and was a selfish opportunistic asshole.

    I think the issue is that sometimes the term "wife material" can be used to looked down on someone.. I have a lot of guy friends & some of them look at a girl for & see that she's sexy but can't cook..& other traits that the stereo typical wife material. & deem her as just for fun & sex, w/c is totally unfair. I think that instead of stop using it.. we jut redefine it a bit & spin it into more positive, like they say emphasize how it could be different w/ every peron. or emphasizes other good traits like being loving, loyal & such cause I think thats more important than cooking skills honestly.

      T Y my friends being sexist.. they are not sexist or even a bad person in general, because if they were, i will not be friends w/them.. they are just not that woke, or they are conditioned to think that way(because we live in a more conservative country), or even simple ignorance..
      i am not excusing their behavior, in fact as their friend i take it as my job to help correct their behavior by educating them on this.
      the world is not black & white, yes there are those that are very good & very bad but there are plenty of kinds of people in between & a lot f the are more on the good side, gou cant just dismiss those just because there not perfect. YOU yourself ARE Not perfect. does your flaws define you? because labels such as "being sexist" is not thing you just throw around on anyone. its such an condemning title reserved only for those who truly deserve it, cause if you start throwing it on anyone, it looses its true weight.

    Wifey material is subjective to the person using the term. It is not bad if the person is using the term to describe a person they desire. It becomes bad when they use it in the sense of a social construct as if there is baseline version of wifey material.
    If I had a wife I would allow her to cook if she wants to cook but it’s not because of that skill that makes her any less “wife-able” than the next girl. For example talking to your friend about how wifey material is like having a conversion about how they are applicable to the status quo.
    I don’t think it had anything to do with sensitivity. It’s just acknowledgement.

  • @Yuli2013
    @Yuli2013 6 років тому +7

    Yes!! Adrienne got it. A “wifey material” shoutout be someone that can cook, clean, take care of house duties. A “wifey material” it’s someone that is career focused, has future plans, is motivated, serves God, can lead others into being successful, and so on.
    Cleaning and cooking is something that can be taught. The rest, it’s something that has to already come with the person.

  • @JohnneseP
    @JohnneseP 6 років тому +77

    I think wifey material depends on who the person is. Your definition of wifey is your definition, it might be different from person to person. I agree with Tamera on her points.
    As for husband material I need you to love God because I do, definitely a family man, he has to be stable in what he wants to do in life (dude can’t be figuring it out... he has to have it figured out).
    Now calling my Mama by her name Lawd have mercy, I would be dead lol. But I only do it when I’m playing around (but I say her whole name) or she’s just not getting it.
    Same my parent would not let us respond with “what”, “huh”, or “yeah”, they would literally restart their question or say “what was that”.

      @@filmadcamp1512 jeannie filed so Freddie could have the family he wanted, meaning kids. She let him go so he could truly be happy. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the next lengthy clips is where she mentions why she filed. That would prove how she put Freddie's needs before her own. And he didn't contradict her putting that out there. I don't he's said anything on the divorce yet. His side chick baby mama has been doing all the talking.

      @Ash Tree EXACTLY!!! Jeannie spoke positively of him up to when he announced his pregnancy. Now all of a sudden she is saying something different and is allegedly contesting a prenup she signed.
      Jeannie said many things about Freddy and her marriage that made me see that she no longer wanted to be married. Beginning with her admitting that she did not want to marry him to begin with.

    When my older sister was little she use to call my dad by his name Tony because that the only thing she'd ever hear other people call him.
