Lighthouse remains one of the most underappreciated Canadian bands ever.
The saxophonist on that cut was Howard Shore, who went on to composed the scores for over 80 films, most notably for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. He won three Academy Awards for his work on The Lord of the Rings.
I'm certain that Keith Jollimore was the sax player at that time......at least that's who I always saw at all the Lighthouse concerts I've been to. Let me know if I'm wrong cliftonbancroft. Thanks & cheers from Peterborough
Lead singer on this song was Bob McBride who sadly fell victim to trouble with the law and illnesses from drug use, passing away in 1998 at 51.😢
OMG OMG OMG! I have been waiting and waiting for someone to to react to this absolutely amazing song! Thank you to Louie who requested it, whoever you are! Those horns, that guitar, that voice, the strings, that bass! So Good!
Absolutely! This is a bona-fide Jewel!!! Still as fresh as when released. It's been on virtually every play list I've ever made.
Great Canadian band 🇨🇦
This is 1971
Formed by Skip Prokop (passed in 2014) in 1968
Our version of Blood Sweat and Tears or Chicago
Lead singer of BS&T is Canadian.
@@johnbrowne3950 yes David Clayton Thomas
2nd version of BS&T
I knew Skip Prokop back when he was in The Paupers in Yorkville.
Harri must be introduced to Moxy!
Yes that's what I've always said too. Our 🇨🇦 version of of Chicago. Another song from a Canadian group at that time is called "Sun Goes By" by a group called Dr. Music. Same style of music but a little smoother.
Brass groups had their peak in the early 70’s. Lead by Chicago and BS&T other groups were still amazing also like Lighthouse, Ides of March and Chase. Love this entire album. So underrated and sadly forgotten. Yes it was 1971 and the album is worth checking out.
NEVER forget Edgar Winters' White Trash! Check out JIve, Jive, Jive or Give It Everything You've Got.
They were not referred to as brass groups, they were called jazz rock.
It's because they were Canadian. And I say that as a Canadian, but they had arguably the best trained musicians in the band out of Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears etc. These guys were in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Yes.....Chase "Get It On". he should do that song.
Love that period of music especially, all those groups you named are favorites of mine. Brass does add a really cool element to rock music.
Another fab Canadian band! Loved Lighthouse back in the day.
I was a newly wed 19 year old when this song hit the charts. My wife and I were expecting our baby in a few months.
So this song resonates deeply with me, 51 years later!
It brings back all those memories of being a young couple in love, working together for our future and our future family.
I'm glad you liked it!
One Fine Morning was Recorded and Released in July of 1971.
See what Chicago started and let loose...!!!!!!
Great band! Phenomenal song! My favorite by them is “Pretty Lady”.
The 70s were the eclectic decade. Well said.
It's been awhile since I last heard it. I crave for the days when this was new. Good music and talent abounded in an analogue world. It has been way too long since I spun an actual record!
Always appreciate hearing tracks from great Canadian groups from the past. Lighthouse is the Canadian Chicago! Have all the LP's of this wonderful band! Next we have to introduce Harri to Moxy!
Moxy Fruvous?
Another time we Canadians loved to hear one of our own on the radio. I saw them at Ontario Place in Toronto on a summer evening. It was great.
I haven't heard this song in decades. This is an excellent song that has the sound of Blood, Sweat & Tears. The lead singer sounds a little like David Claton Thomas, and the horn section is very solid.
Maybe because he and DCT were both from Toronto?
@@coldlakealta4043 Yes, it's the canadian's air !
@James Ferris,
Oh yes, very good. I was trying to think of what this overall sound is reminiscent of. Blood, Sweat and Tears of course.
@@coldlakealta4043 Thanks I wasn't aware that David Claton Thomas was from Canada. Some excellent talent came out of Canada 🇨🇦.
@@jamesferris4573 Thanks, James! One of the CDN sleeper acts was Steppenwolf, who were big on the Toronto scene as Jon K and the Sparrows B4 they went to California and named themselves after the greatest book in Jon's native Germany. He immigrated here around 1957.
As a 10 year old kid I saw this band when they came to my small town early 70's. They made quite an impression, a rock band with horn and string players . Let me tell you my mind was blown sensory overload..one of the many reason I am a musician today.
It is a gem of a song. Great music from a bunch of professionals!
I was Class of 76, when Hippie Music turned to Disco. Rod Stewart going Disco broke our hearts.
This song was actually released in Aug of 1971.
Sunny Days is another song by Lighthouse that is worth a listen.
HarriBest - "One Fine Morning" is from the album of the same name released in June 1971, this was the second single released from the album in August 1971. The song was written by drummer and keyboardist, Skip Prokop.
One of my favorites!!
I only heard this for the first time about 4 years ago. We are lucky enough here to have a radio station that plays only 50s, 60s, and 70s, and although I usually know most of the songs, once in awhile someone will request something awesome. Like this
Dang- been awhile since I’ve heard this one. Takes me back
I saw them in the later days in my home town of Brockville Ont and was blown away
Lighthouse were from Toronto Canada. The song was released in 1971 (not 1976), and can be found on the album sharing the same title. I saw a Lighthouse perform live many times. The band typically consisted of around a dozen full-time members. On stage they were also incredible, not often do you see a band with that many members able to keep it together and play so tight. I saw them live no less than a dozen times since the 1970s. On a side note, saxophonist Howard Shore was a member right from the beginning in 1969, and stayed with the band until 1972, appearing on four albums. Howard would eventually have a career as musical director on Saturday Night Live, 1975 - 80. He would then go on to a career scoring soundtracks for many films, including the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, Silence Of The Lambs, Gangs of New York, and many more. It's amazing how many people are unaware of this little fact :)
Me, too, they do such great music for driving around or traveling in the car.. great road music..
back when music had soul...... and musicians who strived for perfection
Lighthouse was / is more than just a "Brass band", they were conceived as a rock 'n roll band with a horn section & a string section, one step further than Chicago, B.S.& T, Chase & Vehicle.
This is feel good energy music. Lighthouse is a great Canadian band who used elements of rock, jazz, classical music with horns & string instruments. They had their biggest hits in the 70's. "Hats Off To The Stranger", "Feel So Good", "Take It Slow (Out In The Country)", "I Just Wanna Be Your Friend", "I'd Be So Happy", "Sunny Days", "Pretty Lady" etc.
OMG one of my faves from back in the day, glad you loved it!
I love watching reactions to real musicians playing instruments and singing without auto tune. Magic.
There you go Harri, more of the Jazz rock music,,,, enjoy
Skip and Ralph both close family friends .
My brother and I both drummed . We received Skips drum set from the Pauper’s days . Although successful the band never got appreciative support they should have .
So true...Lighthouse was so great and so missed.❤Catherine...Toronto
it was 1971. Thank you for playing this song!!!
Thanks Hari and @LOUIS - great song. Sunny Days was a great song by them as well. Great horn section.
They played in Hamilton Ontario, hometown to some members, a few weeks ago.
1971 is only 2 years gone from 1969. So the vocals sounding like the 60's doesn't surprise me. I grew up on the NW Canadian Border. Used to sing this early in the morning in my car (badly), with the sun coming up behind the Cascades mountains, with the northern Puget Sound behind me! Truly some fine mornings! (I used to call them "Chicago of the North)
Another great Canadian 🇨🇦song ! Thx Harri!
This was the first album I bought as a 15 year old!
This has always been one of my favorites. I can’t believe you chose it. The lead singer’s voice is amazing.
You smart, knowledgeable folk with the bits of history are super. I can't think of a better use for this venue. Excellent. Much appreciated. Keep it coming -- and thanks . . (my keyboard is presently exclamation mark impaired, else I'd have used several . . )
I've been waiting a long time for this one. This is a bona-fide Jewel!!! Still as fresh as when released. It's been on virtually every play list I've ever made. Bravo, Harri!!
Now you have to do Crowbar, Oh What A Feeling. Another staple from Toronto's Q107 Psychedelic Sunday.
Oh lighthouse is a fantastic group I listened to them all the time back in the day. I was actually going to suggest Sunny Days which is another great song of theirs. One of many.
Sittin' stoned alone in my backyard. great lyrics to Sunny Days
Epic song I just cant say enough good things
I remember this song. I have not heard this in years. Probably around Fall 1971 is when i first heard this song
That's when it actually came out not in 1977
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Yes because i can relate what i was doing at that time songs came out.
One of faves as well as 'Pretty Lady' by them.
A masterpiece indeed! Love this song! Great reaction! Thanks!
More Lighthouse, please, Harri! 'Hats Off to the Stranger', 'Sunny Days', 'Take It Slow', 'Pretty Lady', 'Broken Guitar Blues', to start.
Saw 'em in a high-school gymnasium in '72 or '73, great band. I've had a couple of friends who were in the band at various points, a keyboardist, and a cellist who also played with a couple of string-player siblings on U2's 'The Joshua Tree' and hung out with Jimi Hendrix years earlier.
1971 solid gold-another song at the same time that's a must hear is the band Chase-Get It On-another great horn band.
Actually it’s from ‘71 however it’s still an awesome piece of work
Thank you! I have been asking almost all the reactors I follow to do this one - great great band and song. You need to see the live version at Massey Hall in 1972.
Such a fantastic song that was mostly forgotten. I started covering this with my band just a few years ago, and it was a delight to see the smiles of recognition on the audience members who were old enough to remember it...
Santana did a smokin hot cover of this as well. No horns, but fantastic organ, and of course, Carlos on guitar....
Skip Prokop was the drummer. I heard a story that he once received a phone call from someone from Janis Joplin's band asking him if he would consider coming to play in the band. His answer was that he couldn't because he was working on a big, new project which was Lighthouse. Canada sure does have a lot of good music! I agree with 'pushpak'; my absolute favourite by Lighthouse is 'Pretty Lady'. Harri, you need to hear that one. ua-cam.com/video/CaWSjoSE8tc/v-deo.html
One of my favorites of that time, the days of horn rock with BST and Chicago. I still have this album. I think 99.99% of the world has forgotten all about it. They had one other hit (in the U.S.) called 'Sunny Days'. If you dig this check out another forgotten horn rock classic Chase's 'Get It On'
I can't believe you just were exposed to this great sound from the 70's. Glad Louis suggested it to you.
It's from 1971. Sunny Days is another great one from Lighthouse; it's a fun summer anthem.
I'd forgotten about Lighthouse, so I thought this was Chicago. Thanks for reminding me of this band
Another excellent Canadian group from that era was Edward Bear although their sound was different. I bought this album in early 1972.
Another awesome Canadian Band I think you would enjoy is Downchild blues band "flip flop fly"
Wow, it's been awhile. My favorite song by them was PRETTY LADY ... and it reminds me of the Raspberries with Eric Carmen. Also, they did a song I believe called Sunny Days and the vocals reminded me of Paul McCartney. Thanks for playing this.
I Saw them live in 1969 - hey were fantastic!!! A very talented bunch of musicians.
this band played at my high school! love it. peace and love from Canada
Another great Canadian group. Love One fine morning. Good choice. Great tune to react to Harri. 🙃🇨🇦🇨🇦🕊️💟😎🇺🇸
You’ll love their “Sunny Days”!
Thank you for another great trip down memory lane. Lighthouse played at our high school many years ago. Have you listened to The Tragically Hip ? Another great Canadian band. ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
You have to check out "Pretty Lady" by Lighthouse (1973). I don't know why Lighthouse didn't do better than they did in the states. Maybe they were ahead of their time. Perhaps they brought more music to the game than yanks were ready for. A few years later, E,W&F. and Starbuck brought that level of music to the charts and were well received.
I have two of their albums on vinyl. This is their best.
Lighthouse used to headline the annual spring free concerts at High Park in Toronto, circa '69-'71. High times, indeed.
Lighthouse...In their day had a similar and yet unique sound comparable to Blood Sweat and Tears and Chicago...alot of talent in this Band...Thanks brother
I was a fan of Lighthouse,Chicago and the usual suspects.Check out their live album at Carnegie Hall
HAHA..i have this one on a loop in my spotify play when I drive..love it
Great job, Harri and thank you Louis for the suggestion. "Sunny Days" is one you will enjoy!
These guys are sooooo good.
Lost AM gold.
Love this band. The Canadian “Chicago”
Thanks Harri. Memories of my youth in Toronto going to see them at the CNE.
Good band from Canada,,had many hits in the 70s
Pulled me back to my kidhood....
1971. To me, the sound is like the group, Blood, Sweat and Tears.
Get it On by Chase is another one to check out
Love it. Sukses to you
You're the first person I've seen react to this Canadian classic. You said someone named Louis suggested this to you. Well, Louie Yacknin was one of the group's bassists and his sister was my next door neighbor for many years.
Unbelievable song
Sunny days is another good one by lighthouse
Howard Shore of Lighthouse was the composer in the Lord of the rings.
13 piece rock orchestra with horns and strings. What you hear on record is what you heard live.
Definitely 70s vibe!
This song brings back great memories, what a classic. 1971 was the release date of ONE FINE MORNING. I believe in my album collection that I do have the album by Lighthouse that features this song. So many great bands and artists have come from our neighbors to the north like Celine Dion, Rush, BTO, Guess Who, Neil Young, Arcade Fire and Bryan Adams.
Good to hear this band - missed them at the time.
You may also want to try their Pretty Lady recording, they sound like Chicago on that one!
They were sorta CANADA,S version of CHICAGO.
There are actually 13 members in that orchestra.
As we're moving into summer, check out their hit Sunny Days.
A touch of Chicago band in this one too.
Glad to see someone reacting to Lighthouse. They are still playing. Check out Sunny Days, Hats Off to the Stranger, 1949.
Glad you found this. It is one of the better one-hit wonders.
Lol, 1-hit wonder is a very relative term. Take the band Status Quo, in the U.S. they are considered a 1-hit, but in the U.K. they have released over 100 singles and 33 albums ( 23 of which made the top 10). Lighthouse has had 11 singles in the top 40 in Canada, so not really a 1-hit wonder here.
@@Louis5900 Loved "Pictures of Matchstick Men". Good to know that both bands were not one-trick ponies.
Mr Wondrous-Not a one hit wonder.
@@angelajakem366 2-hit wonder? That's not very special. There was so much competition back then.
A really good Toronto band which formed around 1969/70. The main personality was a drummer/everything else guy named Skip Prokop, who had also founded a band called The Paupers. which played at the Monterey Pop Festival. They styled themselves as jazz fusion, and there were many iterations through the years, and times when original members dropped out and then came back. . When Skip passed away around 2017 he was replaced by his son Jamie. My personal favourite song is Sunny Days. Last I heard they were still touring Canada.
Totally sounds like Chicago!
or Blood Sweat and Tears - jazz fusion rock
@@coldlakealta4043 - I was thinking that too, along with Ides of March.
