I'm definitely finding this to be true. I was doing a little something with an Infinity G37x and when we did a 20 roll I fishtailed. Did a 40 roll and still spun out, just not enough traction. Definitely gonna do a tire upgrade soon. Thanks for the awesome content man, keep it up!
I ended up putting 295/40/20 in rear and it made a world of difference in cornering. I feel more comfortable going faster and deeper. No rubbing of any kind at stock height. Putting on the Eibach lowering spring pro kit this weekend, so will see how that changes handling even more. Visually, I could have went 305 in rear. The offset of my new rear rims were 26.
Nice 295 is wide as hell, great job! You should be able to do some upgrades to the engine without being worried to much about tire spin. No lowering for me until my driveway gets fixed!
Totally agree with your assessment. I have a Mopar '11 with the 3.91 rear end. The factory 245's would break loose and wag the tail at any full throttle application under 40mph and got a hard bark (with grin inducing tail wiggle) on full throttle 1-2 up shifts. Switched to the 275's on the rear and it is night and day. I can now torque break up to about 1500-1700rpms without breaking them loose. My 0-60's improved because my launch technique could improve. I dropped form 5.0-5.1's to consistent 4.6-4.8's depend on ambient temps and tire heat. And they look GOOD They will not fit on the front though I tried. They looked amazing but rubbed to much. A smaller spacer (13mm) would probably cure it but I will not put a spacer on my front hubs (never get the balance correct).
I hear my rims can fit 315's so that might be going on next time (with some spacers as you mentioned). Sounds like you experienced similar results & it's 100% worth every penny for them. It really does make the car look beefier to so that's a nice plus as well. Thanks for the support, I appreciate it man!
I have not decided if I want 315's on the rear yet but may do it more for the aesthetic than for performance boost. My ultimate plan is to get different wheels (the Mopar wheels are beautiful though) with the correct offset to run 275's on the front. The only problem I have experienced is those 275's are pushing my 245's resulting in more understeer than before. My car has Mopar sway bars front and rear, Mopar strut braces front and rear, Mopar stage 1 springs w, Bilstiens all around so its a handler not just a cruiser. Since this is the first time I have commented here is a quick parts list. Above mentioned suspension mods, Mopar CAI, Muffler delete, and Mopar TCM. So if anyone has questions about any/all my current parts just ask.
Mine is a 2011 Mopar Edition. The car came factory with the 3.91's, sway bars, strut braces, and TCM. So as far as the TCM goes I cannot compare apples to apples. My wife drives a 2015 Challenger RT Super Track Pack with the 8 speed so that is my only comparison. My car acts like it has an old school shift kit. Up shifts are harder, holds gear longer at part throttle and light acceleration and downshifts happen quicker and more frequent than the Challenger. For example while coming to a stop my car will auto downshift into first at about 15mph. If a jump on the brakes it dials up downshifts as fast and as hard as jumping on the throttle does. It is never looking for the best fuel mileage like the Challenger seems to be. The biggest performance option was that 3.91 rear end. My car will beat 6.1's and I have caught some 6.4's sleeping. Any none 5.0 Mustang is done and some of the 5.0's depending on their rear end (Ford makes it easy to spot because wheels packages are part of the rear end options).
If you are racing on the street yes the 245 isnt enough but I took my daytona to the track last night and those 245s were plenty enough tire. I only got to run it 3 times and 1 time I totally forgot to shift haha and the last run was 14.4 in my opinion sucked but I wasnt using launch control and had issues launching it right. So next time I go I'm using launch control. That should make the difference.
The track has much better traction but the upgraded tires will still certainly help. Your 1/4 mile time is very high - that's the highest I've heard anyone report back. Are you running above sea level or super hot day?
Gotcha, ok - makes sense. Still fun as all hell going to the track & zipping down the track I'm sure. I need to find a strip close to me & make a day of it.
That is true, my 245 spin a lot that has to do with my times and launch, I am definitely going to upgrade to 275 but at least on back but unfortunately, I wont be able by the 0-60 challenge :( ,what brand of tires you use on the back and are they good for daily or just drag?, Great info.
OH man you can't! Run it anytime this week & just schedule it to go up for Saturday - or at worst just upload it then link it to mine on Saturday. If you can't no big deal... I WANT my tires to spin! Lmao! My car is RWD. I checked yesterday out of curiosity, and oddly enough, my front tires seem to be more worn than the back ones. I've had the car 2 months, and it still has the crappy Michelin tires that came on it. It'll be stored for winter and when spring comes, so do the mods. Just can't do it right now. If anyone has any suggestions on what are some good tires, let me know.
The shop said I could've went 285 without a problem - wanted to play it safe. Good to hear you're running those wider tires trouble free. It really is a great investment.
@@hemiheritage even with t/c off it still grips pretty good. This was using Perelli P zeros. After about 5k miles on the tires I did notice a few tire squeal on launch. Still solid grip for the most part.
DIdn't use it a ton but yes I tested it out. Didn't result in better times for me. I've tried so many combinations to better my time - traction control fully off w/ Launch mode on/off etc.
As far as straight line launches...with traction control off and driving in manual mode or sport I haven't spun the wheels except once but it was from like 0 to 25 then she hooked. But if I power brake her to 2000 rpm then it's a Rediculous burnout to 40 mph before she hooks lol. I'm sure the 275s help tremendously for handling purposes. This is why i thought buying a scat pack is silly, its just my opinion, but now that there is the dynamics package it finally makes sense. But for everyone who purchased a 15' or 16' scat pack. You have to literally go out and buy a full set of tires right after you drive off the lot, those 245's paried to a 392 is just the stupidest thing ever, a lot of us have no idea what Dodge was thinking.
They wanted to make sure people still wanted to get into the SRT's. The Scats are still RT's so they needed to make sure not to step on the toes of SRT.
It had NOTHING at all to do with stepping on any toes AND EVERYTHING to do with just making a few more bucks on every car sold. If Dodge had put larger rear tires on the Scat Packs it would've cost them money they could keep in their pockets.
Did you put the wider tires on the stock charger wheels? I have a challenger with stock wheels and I really don't like the 245s so if I can put 275s that would make it drive better I feel

Aaron Ferguson so you have AWD? If so be very careful with staggered fitments. The width does not matter it is the height you need to worry about. Front to rear must be the exact same height with AWD.
Correct but what you have to look at is overall height of the wheel / tire combo. For example your 235/55/19's are 29.2 inches tall but 245/45/19's are only 27.7 inches tall or -5% form stock. Us RWD guys have room to flub some of that but you AWD guys do not. I'm certain that your running in the danger zone having a 275 on an 8 inch wheel. I tried the same thing a few yrs ago and they wouldn't even sell me the tires. Be careful bro.
Really - They said I could've went even wider. I'm going to look & see if there is any rubbing happening. Thanks though for the heads up.
R/T Life I don't think it's rubbing that you have to worry about. It has more to do with running that wide of a tire on skinny rim. When I had my R/T I ran 20×10.5 with a 275 on the rear without any issues.
Will 275 45 r20 all around ? On 07 dodge charger se
Check out this video - you want to keep the same diameter with tire upgrades ua-cam.com/video/1geHSDooo7c/v-deo.html
I got it! 2011 challenger rt has aftermarket exhaust and kn cold air intake. You on Face Book if you are find me. Stomp NU is my user there. The car is sick as fuck. I need tires. I am sure wheels to we need to consult. lol Have a great day man.
Nice! Glad you're enjoying that Hemi - yah I have a facebook facebook.com/james.pealer.92
Why not 295?
I believe I could have went 315 but wanted to play it safe this go round.
R/T Life You answer my question with a Big Bang ! 315... my man👍🏼
R/T Life Do the RT's really have only 8 inch wheels ?How could you run 315 tires on 8" wheels ?
Yes but you might need some wheel spacers so there is no rubbing, check this video out ua-cam.com/video/1geHSDooo7c/v-deo.html
What's your wheel size? I have the 20" x 8 will 275's fit my rims
That's what I have as well 8" - You can go as large as 315's but you might want small wheel spacers.
Thanks I appreciate it. I thought all RT's were 8" in width. Is the 8.5" just for the RT Road & Track trim?
speedforhire so are the gloss black rims on the blacktop 20 x 8 or 20 x 8.5
speedforhire will 275 40 20 fit 20x8 rims or would it cause problems? I'm putting them in the rear
speedforhire alright thanks
I can’t believe they put 245’s from factory. Crazy. 275’s are still too small but better.
hellcats come with 295,s and that is not a enough at ALL.... my dad recently bought one and all he does still in 2nd gear to 3 gear is spin
Did he upgrade the tires yet? I would imagine being the 1st mod every cat owner would do. So much WHP going to those back tires!
its just 3 weeks old so those new tires will be coming 315,s
Name something sound better then a RT flying pass you on the highway 🛣😈🦋🤯
A hellcat
I have a 14 rt, I’m going for the 275 in the back for sure but I also need front tires is 275 all around pretty good or just for the back end where all the HP is happening ?
You should be able to fit 275's all around - I just did 275's in the back though. I like that beefy back look
@@RTLife yea only problem im running into is my wheel size 20x8.5 which isn't recommended for the 275 9 is the smallest rim but i'm really in a knot here because i know i could get them to fit but would it really be worth making them
Putting the 275 on 8 inch rims scare me.
Check this link out - might make you feel better about it tiresize.com/calculator/
I looked at that and it states the 275 tire has to be 9-11 inches wide but is still highlighted green which has me scratching my head
