Your explanation of why they do water last makes a lot of sense. At the same time, the fact that they're going from most risky to least risky so that they can use a single device doesn't mean that they're doing the test in a way that is fair to the phone or most useful to the viewers. And yea, I agree to that it's great that they're actually doing real hard tests.
It seems like almost every torture test episode the water test isn't fair. I think she should do the water test before the drop test for more accurate results! :)
I'm surprised at how easily that broke. I was considering getting a Note II but not after this. I work outside and need a durable phone, my Photon has dropped off of roofs, been slung accross the room and fallen out of my truck countless times. The screen is hardly scratched so much as cracked. Shame, I was looking forward to the stylus, loved it on my HTC View. Thanks for the test! Saved me time and money.
My first note 2 died a month after I got it. Went for a long walk with it in the pocket of my parker jacket. Started raining and the moisture that got into the pocket killed the phone. Sent it to get fixed but it came back with a faulty touch screen (unresponsive). Got a replacement Note 2 and it has survived over a year now :) Otherwise I love the phone!
I dont see how it failed the drop tests when on other videos like dropping an ipad and it has a massive spider web crack but it still passes? These people are payed by Appld
you shouldn't keep your phone in that black hole you call a purse! Its inevitably going to get scratched with all the keys, and shiny objects you women have in there!
It's not even the screen (digitizer) that needs to be replaced. It's just the sheet of glass protecting the digitizer. That can be bought online for $10-15 and replaced if done properly.
+Jordan Kwok yeah galaxy 3 and note 2 has the same shape it is so vulnerable! other series such as galaxy s2 and note 4 5 etc does survive many drops! Their designs are more stronger and different. It is just s 3 and note 2 that is round shaped and breaks easily god!! haha
What are you talking about? It's extremely prone to screen cracking when dropped... I've seen *tons* of reports of it cracking from small, knee-high drops.
did you see the surface the note 2 droped on...all drop test people say that your phone has a way higher chance on smooth surface(indoor, deck) but hard surface(concrete, whatever they dropped the note 2 on) will almost always crack if it goes face down
The larger a plane of glass the more likely it is to break, so its pretty self explanatory that the note 2 would be more likely to have a screen crack or shatter.
I'm pretty impressed by that submersion test, especially since it was already compromised. Is it coated or something? Were the charging port, buttons and/or jacks sealed off?
also, I've read that it is the same stuff, it's just, that with the larger screen, it is much more susceptible to 'shattering' due to impact (for other reasons than how it (itself) falls)
My HTC Magic recently fell down the wooden stairs up to my attic and then another story down onto stone tiles. It survived it without any (further) cracks, but I don't think it'll do it another time.
Not incorrect. It comes down to whether you want a professional factory replacement or an as you say, mucked up ebay job. No one said that it couldn't be replaced...just that it costs a grip to have it replaced back to factory specs.
Also, the drop tests are inconsistent cuz she drops them from different heights onto different surfaces (of course dropping onto a pillow vs asphalt will change results). The phones also drop at different angles (which is realistic, but doesnt follow the scientific rule of only changing one variable).
Water is probably the most high-risk test you can perform on an electronics gadget. They probably perform the tests from least risky to most risky so that there are more chances they will be able to use a single device throughout the testing. I doubt they have enough disposable money to destroy several of these things. I'm happy we get these hard tests at all, a lot of other people will test the devices VERY squeamishly, almost as if they want to keep the devices for themselves afterwards.
Something has to be said for the screen still working after it cracked. That is more important to me anyway. Screen may not look as nice but at least it functions.
Can you guys devise a torture test for a desktop computer, like the iMac? That would be so cool! I love these torture tests, please please please don't stop making them!
would it not make more sense to do the water test before the drop test simply because if the screens were to crack and make the water test fair. It doesnt even matter if the phone were to work after the WT to do a drop test because one would only be concerned about cosmetic damage from the DT
i dont know how u did the drop test on 4s coz my iphone 4s glass broke twice and that too just from a 4 feet fall... u i can not say wheather the drop test you guys do predict a guaranteed result... rest you guys are doing a good job and i really love your show... take care Tej
The Gentlemens Choice, The ONLY way I'll ever give up my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, is when the Galaxy Note 3 comes out. That being said, I've dropped mine from a height of 1 foot and she cracked like a baby. However, other than dropper it, this machine is a horse, I truly love it. Great review. Thanks Kurtis K. Cullen
well sometimes people do this and cnet tries to show what will happen if this happens to you. and don't cry because this can handle the torture and your iphone can't
I think torture test should be at same location and use same type of material to dry it out. I looked at multiple torture test vids, but it was different this time because it wasn't normal concrete but a bumpy rocky ones. Same goes with iphone, why drop one(iphone5) on concrete but another on lobby floor(iphone4s)? I think to be fair you should drop it same way, same place. Wildcard is always interesting but all others should be done in same way. My two cents
Maybe it gives a thought that manufacturers actually stress test these devices before releasing it to us? I like these videos. Even though some of the things aren't really practical in real situations. But at least you now know what your damages your device is capable of.
2:19 "everything come backs on"
Do the Note 7 Torture Test in the oven and smash the battery
2:22 EVERYTHING COME BACKS ON?? I love you, Molly
*puts phone in the oven at 200 degrees*
Phone doesn't turn back on .... " how is it not working I'm a little surprised "
it pisses me off that shes the one doing the torture test but shes actually worried about the phone and calling it "little guy"
Note 2 drop test: lightly pushes it downstairs. iPod 5 drop test: *chucks at ground*
iSheep Joke
ill be funny if this was her boss's phone
😂

Do the note 3 torture test
Ryan Connolly I agree
luckily that was the note 2 and not the note 7
like if she is still on cnet
Note 3 is the best note ever!
Do the note 8
I love your torture tests. Please keep continuing them they are cool to watch. 🤩🤩🤩👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
If I was the kid I would of ran off with the phone 😂😂
lol
XD
in all fairness though, if you drop any phone on a concrete service from that height and it lands in the right spot, it will probably crack.
It seems like almost every torture test episode the water test isn't fair. I think she should do the water test before the drop test for more accurate results! :)
Thank you Molly, I always enjoy you when you are with the Cnet group lol. Good test!
I nearly dropped my note 2 on the concrete today but my headphones saved it thank god
Sorry to say, but your "god" did not save your device. The samsung engineers that designed it did.
I didn't say god saved it ?
I'm surprised at how easily that broke. I was considering getting a Note II but not after this. all you have to do is keep it in a zip lock bag at all times keeps it safe from rain just don't take a bath with it.
They should bring back this series
At least it won't blow up
A good case for an expensive smartphone is always a good investment.
6:04 happens to me!
Love the show, don't stop making them!!! I will never stop watching them, and u make the show more fun to watch!!!
I dont see how it failed the drop tests when on other videos like dropping an ipad and it has a massive spider web crack but it still passes? These people are payed by Appld
+diamondminerHD Mcpe player Well it cracked that means it got damaged.. the point is to make the phone/screen alive
Because Samshit sucks
Jake Samsung is better then a lot of things, I can tell you are a kid and don't have a clue what you are on about
DMHDTrains - Too the everywhere
JakeMini123
I'm surprised a note 3 torture test hasn't been done yet. The phone was released in October and is very very popular. I can't wait til it's done.
you shouldn't keep your phone in that black hole you call a purse! Its inevitably going to get scratched with all the keys, and shiny objects you women have in there!
Lol you think your so funny but in reality your just cancer.
It's not even the screen (digitizer) that needs to be replaced. It's just the sheet of glass protecting the digitizer. That can be bought online for $10-15 and replaced if done properly.
That bestie thing was pathetic
You're pathetic too.
Sweet! I've been waiting for this one since the unboxing.
should have dropped the s3 on concrete
ikr! but dropping them on 2 different grounds and comparing them after is pretty much unfair :C
+Jordan Kwok yeah galaxy 3 and note 2 has the same shape it is so vulnerable!
other series such as galaxy s2 and note 4 5 etc does survive many drops! Their designs are more stronger and different.
It is just s 3 and note 2 that is round shaped and breaks easily god!! haha
I always put my phone in an oven for an hour while im away, what are you talking about?
What a waste african kids could have eaten that phone
If i had a gun i couldve shot you but i didint did i
CNET when are you going to do the note 3 I been waiting for ages
Great review as always! I like your personality. It adds to the fun of the video!
What do you think.. Dropping out of a 4x4 onto jagged rocks and it would survive?
What are you talking about? It's extremely prone to screen cracking when dropped... I've seen *tons* of reports of it cracking from small, knee-high drops.
did you see the surface the note 2 droped on...all drop test people say that your phone has a way higher chance on smooth surface(indoor, deck) but hard surface(concrete, whatever they dropped the note 2 on) will almost always crack if it goes face down
When you picked it up from the fish bowl, It was still on. When you said it was shutting down, the screen was just dimming from the screen timeout.
You should try testing it in the same drops as the gs3 because the drop out of the car was on pretty big gravel dont ya think?
The larger a plane of glass the more likely it is to break, so its pretty self explanatory that the note 2 would be more likely to have a screen crack or shatter.

do you know what the word "Torture" means?
My HTC Magic recently fell down the wooden stairs up to my attic and then another story down onto stone tiles. It survived it without any (further) cracks, but I don't think it'll do it another time.
When will you make one for the Note 3? I love your videos!
Molly you are aware that at tempuatures in excess of 130 fareinheit that the battery deionizes faster resulting in draining. Right?
Why do you always do the drop test before the water test?
Not incorrect. It comes down to whether you want a professional factory replacement or an as you say, mucked up ebay job. No one said that it couldn't be replaced...just that it costs a grip to have it replaced back to factory specs.
Did you use a gopro for the fridge shot
Also, the drop tests are inconsistent cuz she drops them from different heights onto different surfaces (of course dropping onto a pillow vs asphalt will change results). The phones also drop at different angles (which is realistic, but doesnt follow the scientific rule of only changing one variable).
You gave the Note 2 CPR at the start but you forgot the defibulator.
It is supposed to represent leaving your phone in your car during the summer or winter when temps can range from 200 degrees to below zero.
On the out of car test the phone hit rigid concrete, this means the most likely the phone will crack. Not a fair test.
@ThreeDCG then how did the iPhone 5 survive?
2:22 you've got to come back, everything come backs on! 😂
It might not have a meaning as such, however it implies something that you could find if you googled the meaning.
Is there a torture test for the Optimus G Pro??
i wonder, after the water test, is the speakers broke?
Ur tests r amazing and so helpful, but also u have to try calling after the tests to check on the signal, microphone and loud speaker..
Water is probably the most high-risk test you can perform on an electronics gadget. Can you also do the drop test (car) with the s3 also? :)
way bigger too. how do you fit that thing in your pocket???
actually why battery drain out after heating?? is it kind of protective action by note?
Can you guys devise a torture test for a desktop computer, like the iMac? That would be so cool! I love these torture tests, please please please don't stop making them!
I may be wrong but i didnt see the apple get thrown down all those wooden stairs before its drop test.
How many time did it pass inside the package?
would it not make more sense to do the water test before the drop test simply because if the screens were to crack and make the water test fair. It doesnt even matter if the phone were to work after the WT to do a drop test because one would only be concerned about cosmetic damage from the DT
To be fair, it has been frozen and heated prior to doing the drop test
THANK YOU FOR THE TEST, I LEARNED THAT THE BATTERY CAN BE REPLACED, LETS HOPE MINE NOTE 2 DOES NOT FALL INTO PERIL.
I like how there were people trying to save the iPhone but not the Galaxy from the freezer
You should test the camera after the water test
i dont know how u did the drop test on 4s coz my iphone 4s glass broke twice and that too just from a 4 feet fall... u i can not say wheather the drop test you guys do predict a guaranteed result... rest you guys are doing a good job and i really love your show... take care Tej
how often does your car get 200 Fahrenheit hot?
AFTER THE WATER TEST CAN YOU DO A SPEAKER TEST TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS?!
Is it broken if you just droped it will still might work
The fact that you froze the phone and then cooked it may have weakened the glass... First drop test I've seen it fail.
Please do the note 3 test I am very curious what my phone can go through
The Gentlemens Choice,
The ONLY way I'll ever give up my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, is when the Galaxy Note 3 comes out. That being said, I've dropped mine from a height of 1 foot and she cracked like a baby. However, other than dropper it, this machine is a horse, I truly love it. Great review.
Thanks Kurtis K. Cullen
i wonder if the sound on it still worked?
why don't you got there?
You should do a torture test on the HTC one
it breaks my heart to see videos like this
well sometimes people do this and cnet tries to show what will happen if this happens to you. and don't cry because this can handle the torture and your iphone can't
I'm pretty sure you're suppose to open the beads, and just leave them in the wrapper.
I thought it had gorilla glass 2nd gen on it? Does in the UK
I think torture test should be at same location and use same type of material to dry it out. please tell me that did not come from that deamdau5 video
it kinda weird using a gal 2 because it look more like i'm talking to a brick that thin
Can't believe she just said "... come backs on." It was supposed to be "... comes back on."
Why would you put a phone in an oven? What is that trying to simulate?
i understand your sarcasm, but the Xperia Z was not even announced back then :D
Hi, can you do a Droid Razr HD/ Maxx HD?
can it make a call after all the torture?
You put it in the freezer, you put it in the oven, you kicked it down the stairs, and you get all upset when it cracks in 4 1/2 ft impact
The whole point is to test if the phone can survive the heat.
A good trick for cracked screens in the temporary is to put clear packing tape over the cracked parts of the screen
no dip
is Gal Note 2 safe for travelling to the Sun ? I am going to the Sun soon and I want to post some cool images on the facebook lol ....
why do ppl say this is useless? the oven test is like leaving it in a hot car freeze test going out camping in cold weather i suppose
Yes me to! I am just using a flimsy thin case for my Note II. But now I am nervous!
