Appreciate the white paper under your plate; it was especially helpful considering the different colors being layerd over each other. Also thank you for showing each paper BEFORE you put on another layer--very helpful in determining what happened. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
It’s my pleasure to share! Thank YOU for noticing that I do that little glimpse of the paper before each pull. I think it’s really important since I’m bouncing around from paper to paper.
I loved watching you play I loved the use of the brayer, I love a little brayer everyone talks about wanting bigger brayers I love the control over a small brayer even on my giant plate. Please give us more fun when I can’t play I love to watch others having fun thank you for a great video xxx
Thanks for you sweet comment! You’re right, so much control with a smaller brayer and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. I did a series of landscape paintings with my gel plate and rarely used the larger brayer! I’ll be back soon with another video. 💕💕
The small wooden brayer of your mom’s is probably a tool used in applying wallpaper to press and conceal edges and seams. I’ve done a lot of wallpapering, yet I multipurpose a lot of tools, packaging, empty plastic containers of all sizes for painting textures, backgrounds and creating patterns, so many tools and items headed to the trash can has potential of becoming a free & cool tool by accident. You look at EVERYTHING differently! Good luck & best wishes! Hugs from TN
Hi Serena! Yes, I think it’s a wallpaper tool as well. I have several tools that I have grabbed from a box full of her wallpapering supplies. 😍 And yes, so many things have potential. I’m constantly holding on to things for my gel print sessions! Thanks for your comment. 💕💕

Wow! That made my day! Thanks for sharing that with me, Tracey. 💕💕💕 I love that you and your neighbor share artsy goodness with each other. Have a wonderful day!
This is fantastic and I really enjoyed your color combinations. I believe those small wooden brayers are seam presses. They are used to press seams at the sewing machine instead of having to iron a seam flat. They were very effective on the gelli plate too! Thank you for sharing your process.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Ohhhhh, I will ask my mom. She’s a retired Home-ec teacher and maybe this ended up in my stash from her. 🤔 Thanks for commenting. 💕💕
I think those wooden tools you’re using are used for rolling over wallpaper seams when installing wallpaper. Still a good idea to use for gel plate. Can’t wait to try this technique.
I would love to see some of the art you make with these. They are so bold that I am having a hard time imagining how I would use them. Would you use just a couple small pieces per art piece? Thanks. I love your studio. It's the max!
I agree about the beautiful green paper at minute 27. There were many of these prints that were better before something was transferred on top of them. They were finished just as they were against a white background, in my humble opinion.
I do believe the 2 wooden “brayers” you showed are actually what people who wallpapered used to get the seams to stick down - at least the few times I wallpapered that is what we used them for. Some were flat & some were rounded like what you showed .

Hi, i love your videos showing all your trials. What do you do with all these pieces of art? Will you frame some of them or use them in collage in the future?. I have a big box of my own production similar to yours. I love the process but not sure how it will evolve.
I'm glad you've enjoyed this video! Yes, I'm currently using them as both finished pieces of artwork and collage pieces. Or I imagine if I scan them in, I could have them as both. :)
What do you do with all the beautiful papers that you create? I have just started doing this gel creating and love it so far just not sure what to do with my creations?😊
I do a few different things… unlike some people, I love creating finished pieces of artwork! So I love to layer paint up to achieve that. (I even teach a course that shows you how to create landscape paintings if you’re interested!) Anything I make that doesn’t create a complete painting can be added to mixed media pieces or collage. I also use this process to loosen up and experiment. And there are days when the act of creating is the most important part - so even if I don’t like what I’ve created, the process was important and I can cover those pieces up another day and try again. 💕
I love your video ❤😊 ! It was really cool to see how many collage papers you made! I love the colours you chose, especially the Magenta! Can you tell me if those paints are available in Canada? The Purple and the grey in tubes, I don't think so. Thank you for your video and I'd love to see you make intuitive collage!

Some great ideas. Now I need to figure out how to convert 1 of my old brayers to make stripes. Those stripes were beautiful! BTW What are the advantages/disadvantages to having such a large plate?
You could maybe do rubber bands around it! Or rubber bands around a paper towel roll make cool lines too! Personally I love that the large plate allows me to move around more. I can appreciate the small plate using less paints, etc. But it feels so expressive and freeing to create on this bigger plate.
This is just fantastic Jennifer! Love your prints and how you work. Could I ask- the large white sheets of paper that you generally use for painting, what is the weight, size, did you could them to size yourself? Thanks so much, could watch all day 😊🌻
Hi Clari! Thanks for being here & I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos. I have been using Canson sketch paper. It’s a “Biggie” sketch pad that’s 18x24” (50 lb) and I cut it in half to use with the 12x14” gel plate. I happened to get 2 of these sketch pads and a drying rack for really cheap from a therapist who was closing her office. So, I’m really just using what I have and I appreciate that it’s acid free. Overall, I do enjoy this paper!
Thank you for sharing your ideas and process. Could you also share what that jumbo roll of paper was you cut at the beginning of your video to put under your gel plate?
Hello! I'm not really sure where that paper roll came from. I got it from a swap of supplies between teachers back when I taught elementary art. Basically any paper I could get my hands on, I'd grab. :) So, it's not anything special, I was just grabbing something cheap. ;)

Hello, Mary! I got my large gel plate from Amazon. Here is my affiliate link for the 12x14" Gel Press gel plate: amzn.to/3lIeQiG -- I make finished paintings by layering up the paint in different ways, sometimes on the gel plate and sometimes on the paper. You can read more about that on my website, if you're interested! www.jennifertobinart.com/courses Thanks for your comment!

Hi Teri! It's definitely not the strongest paper or high quality in any way! There are many times that I don't worry about the paper quality, and I'll just paint on anything, even cardboard. But, for things that I want to last or things I want to sell as high quality pieces of artwork - then I only use the good stuff: artist paper or panels, good paints, high quality varnish, etc. There's a place for all of it in my art practice, but I can see where that's not the case for some. Thanks for being here! Happy creating!
Delicious! And you have a very pleasant speaking voice. Sad to say, some people’s voices make it almost impossible for me to watch the video. I have that kind of voice, I couldn’t do videos because my voice is annoying.
I Reeeeeally wanted to know if the softest ones re better, i am thinking of buying a SILICONE brayer, but worried aboyt sticking issues and qud LOVE to know if anyone has used silicone brayers on gel plates???
I reach for my soft Speedball brayer constantly and LOVE it! I have a link to it in my video description so you can see exactly what I have. 💖💖 What brand is the silicone brayer you’re looking at? I want to look it up…
If you look at the one on the left at 30:56 in to the video.. the black on the left and bottom right side... look like people. do you see it? Or is it just late and I'm seeing things?
In a typical gel plate session that would be the advice. But in this particular video I’m working with brayers in a variety of different ways to create different textures. I hope you give it a try. Enjoy!
Really love that you just get on with the job and there is NO faffing about talking about irrelevant things..BRILLIANT videos

I like the ones on a paper that looks like a grocery bag. What is that paper?
Brown packing paper in assorted sizes.
Delicious! And you have a very pleasant speaking voice. Sad to say, some people’s voices make it almost impossible for me to watch the video. I have that kind of voice, I couldn’t do videos because my voice is annoying.
I’m glad you enjoy my voice. I moved around a lot as a kid and I think that helps me have no accent 🤣
Oh my goodness, I see it!!! I’ve never noticed that! Thanks for sharing! (I also thought I saw a horse while waiting to see if I saw people. 😂)
@@jennifertobinart Oh thank God you see it, thought I was delirious... I would save that as a whole.. the whole thing has interest.
@@jennifertobinart Yes I saw the horse too.. it almost center, in white.
Yes! That’s where I saw the horse. 😍
And thanks for your feedback. 💕
I thought you are supposed to roll the brayer in the same direction ??
In a typical gel plate session that would be the advice. But in this particular video I’m working with brayers in a variety of different ways to create different textures. I hope you give it a try. Enjoy!
It must be packing paper.
Yup! That’s correct.
