The leaves! The grass. The LEAVES! Oh….the GRASS! Captivating ❤ and love your commentary!
@@joannc147 the grass is my favorite!! 🤩 Thanks for your kind comments. 💖💖
That was fun! Ok, now I need to get a gel plate! 🤣❤
@@joannc147 yes!!! Come join the fun! I have links to supplies in my video descriptions if that’s helpful. 💖
I always respect the artist more when they show what they believe is a failure. You have to show the good and the bad. Kudos!
@@kristinaandthegerman4554 thanks for your support! It’s all an important part of the process. 😍
Brilliant! You made me subscribe because you stated about the brayer and what shapes it makes when spreading painting.
@@Karibee61 thanks for subscribing! 💖
Love your work, and this is so well explained! I'm rediscovering Gelli printing, and I'm so frustrated - I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong this time. I just end up with a splotchy mess because it just doesn't pull up all the paint. Is it the paper? Is it the paint? I'm using Utrecht paint, making sure not to use too much or too little. I'm making sure to wait a full 5 minutes before pulling, and the plate is brand new. Argh. I'd love some advice because I used to be able to do this! Thanks for any help.
My brayer is picking up all the paint off gelli plate!!😢
@@user-qe3ce6os7i hard to tell why without seeing it. But you might be over rolling. Like if you roll too much and it starts to dry, it pulls up the paint!
I Reeeeeally wanted to know if the softest ones re better, i am thinking of buying a SILICONE brayer, but worried aboyt sticking issues and qud LOVE to know if anyone has used silicone brayers on gel plates???
I reach for my soft Speedball brayer constantly and LOVE it! I have a link to it in my video description so you can see exactly what I have. 💖💖 What brand is the silicone brayer you’re looking at? I want to look it up…
Love the grass prints!
They’re my favorite! I need to do more! Thanks for your comment. 💖
These are amazing! On the grass prints, how long did you let the paint dry before doing the pulls? Thanks for sharing your techniques.
Honestly, not very long! Just until I can touch the plate and I don’t have paint on my finger. You can zap with a hair dryer on cool setting to speed it up. Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 💖
I’m impatient & like to keep the paint session moving. 😜 So I now usually work on 2 plates at once.
@@jennifertobinart Thanks for sharing the various paint colors you use. This was helpful in selecting a pallet that's complimentary to foliage.
@@clayfisher3194 you’re welcome!
Could you please tell me which paper youre using for the prints? It looks thin and nice
It’s actually packing paper that my movers used. 🫣 Not claiming it’s good quality or anything. But I had TONS of it and I do enjoy using it on my gel plate. 💖💖
Amazing my first time with the gel plate thankyou
You’re welcome. Have fun playing and experimenting! 💖
Better paint = better prints because good paint has more pigment. Have you tried Golden or better yet, since you like layers, Golden Open? I can’t help imagining your prints made with Golden.
I love Golden paints! So delicious!!! I think Opens are one of the few I still haven’t tried. I should prioritize that. 😍😍
Super! After painty leaves dry, but before they get crispy, i press them in books to use for a collage. Metallics are especially lovely.
Fabulous idea! Thank you. 💗
Thank you, finally someone told about which paper can be used ☺️🙏
Love that my videos are helpful. Thanks for commenting. 💗
I love the long grasses! I will try and subscribe..thank you.
Those are my favorite too. Thanks for following!
Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. I just got a gel plate and am looking forward to trying it. I was wondering if you are letting paint drying in the plate and layering on the plate, have you had issues of the paint layers not adhering to the paper or other item properly? Thank you
Hello! Yes I do a lot of layering! Depending on what I’m working on will depend on if I layer things on the plate (yes, letting dry between) or layer things on the paper. You’ll start to learn what you love the more you play! 🤩 I also have other videos where you can see how I pull things together and layer up, in case that helps you. Enjoy!

Cool!
I like your style.
Thank you! 💗💗
Although posted two years ago I enjoyed listening Into your studio tour. I connected to your comments about sewing and the sewing machine because it reminded me of amazing Australian Fibre artist Lorna Crane whose online workshop "Perfectly Imperfect" liberated me from my inner sewing critic ( be quiet Barbara is the best I've heard yet!) Lol😂). All the best I look forward to following your channel.
I’m so sorry I haven’t replied yet! I remember reading this the day you posted and being so glad you got a laugh about my inner critic mug! Thanks for sharing and I need to look up the fiber artist you mentioned!! I appreciate you taking the time to post such a thoughtful comment. 💖💖💖
Wash the gell plate before putting it away
This is very interesting. Have you videoed making picures for me to watch?
Hi Clare, I’m not exactly sure what you’re looking for when you say “making pictures.” But I have several other painting videos on my channel. Enjoy!
Cute : )
Great video! I love the tempera on panel idea!
They glide nicely on panel! I enjoy it. 💗 Thank you for commenting.

I have one word. “Cooooool”
You’re coooooool. 💗
this is great 😮❤
Thank you 😊
You shouldn't use music... Your video is a great asmr
I used to do that more and need to go back to it. Thanks for commenting. 💗💗
??? Whats the point of that ??? It's easier to use paper
This is paper. 💗
I really enjoyed your video. Love seeing the progress and appreciate the commentary.

I just happened to come across your video tonight. I’m always looking to try new artistic methods. What company do you use to purchase your gel plate and stencils? What do you do with your finished pieces?
Hi Shelley! I purchased my gel plate on Amazon (links in description). But they are also available on art supply sites as well. I started with a 6x6” when getting started and also highly recommend the 8x10” size that’s in this video. I also link stencils, but personally love @stencilgirl So many options for using the prints. They are very commonly used in collage and mixed media artwork. I also love making finished pieces of artwork including landscape paintings. And I also make earrings! Feel free to check out my website where you can see examples of things I’m made and techniques I teach. www.jennifertobinart.com 💗💗 Thanks for your comment!
Basic 101 of gel plates: use the correct side of the gel plate. I was using the wrong side and it wasn't working.. use the shiny side.. Thank you for this it really helped me!
Hi Becky! Have you taken the shiny plastic off of both sides? Just making sure! 💗💗💗
@jennifertobinart yes I did I thought both sides worked the same so I didn't even bother Checking which side I was using. You made it look so easy and I figured out something was wrong... it's fine now. Can't wait to make more papers..
@@beckyfinkelstein1688 mine is the same on both sides. But I can’t speak for every brand. So I’m glad you got it figured out. Happy printing! 💗💗
Was lookng into gel plate for vegetable printing for fun in culinary class. I really enjoyed all of the techniques you demonstrated. Thank you for your time
You’re welcome! I should try veggie printing. Fun idea!
Hello Jennifer, it’s funny because I haven’t yet much experience with the gel plate but I begun right away to have a sketch book next to me to roll off the brayer and it’s a wonderful way to keep the great layers of colours!!! 👌🏻🥰🪶
I’m so glad you do that too! I love filling up my sketchbook with colors. And I can remember the art I was creating when I look at the color combos. 😍
Love your calm voice and gentle way to teach! 👌🏻🥰🪶 I would love to pay you a cup of coffee but I would like to do that with PayPal, is it possible? Friendly greetings from Holland
Thank you for your kind comment! I don’t think it has a PayPal option. But I appreciate you asking. ☕️ My online courses do accept PayPal or card. In case that’s helpful. Thanks for your support! 💗💗💗
Beautiful. Totally what I would like to have as a result!!
It’s the best feeling! 😍
Great inspiring video. Thank you ! I do love the grunge !😊

The prints with the contrast are so amazing...... they are visually such a feast!
I love them too! 😍 Thank you for your comment.
That’s so pretty😍😍
Thank you! 💗
Hej - og mange tak for din meget lærende video.
Hello, Anna Marie! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 💗 For this video I had my papers cut pretty close to size, so i just “eye-ball” it when placing the papers on. You can tape your papers down so they are on what’s like a hinge. That works really well if you’re working on one paper. I work that way sometimes when doing landscapes. Or, yes, there is a placement tool available to buy. But in this video, I am bouncing between so many papers that wouldn’t have worked for me. So I was just guessing and not worried if it it isn’t perfect. 😍
Love it!
Thanks!!
Newbie to gelli printing. Your basics video is just the best I've seen! Thx so much for your tips and step by step instruction - It was just what I was looking for!
