- Max can shred so effortlessly while maintaining melodic lines, which i'm a big fan of. This was his entry for the Kiesel solo contest back in 2019. SOOOOO CLEAN!

I'm 59 years old now... and am getting back into guitar playing. I've been introduced to many extremely talented guitar players via UA-cam, and I'm fascinated at the current "level" of electric guitar playing that's happening. Of all the guitar players that I have been watching though... I think that Max is my favorite. He has incredible skill on the guitar, and can shred like nothing you've seen... but he doesn't just shred because he can, like some others, he puts in so much quality melodic content and wonderful original thinking into his playing. If I had the skill... I would strive to play more like Max. This clip of Max that you have chosen here is I think my favorite clip. I've watched it at least 100 times... and I could sit down and watch it another 100 times, and I'm sure it wouldn't get old!
Just remember, he was like 15 when he did this. He's barely 18 now. Let that sink in for a minute.......
Well, Jason Becker was writing music for his Perpetual Burn album around that age. As impressive as Max is, and I'm a big fan, Jason is on a whole other level. Not just his playing, bit his composition.
His Kiesel entries are phenomenal. Not just playing them, he actually wrote those solos himself. Every 5 seconds in that solo something jaw-dropping is happening. The run at the end is insane. The sky is the limit for this kid. KID!
It's criminal he didn't win in '19, no shade on the one who did. Then, the next year, he also should have won but unfortunately he dissed the brand by doing the close-up on the Ibanez logo and that prolly cost him. Never mind, he's better than all that lol.
Damnnn. Max is a madman...and all while looking like he's just giving us 50% of his true power. God tier.
Yeah man, he’s too good!
i honestly think he is the best guitar player ... honestly ... i mean ive been a long time fan of syn gates - like he's still my guy, and also dime (with how slick his guitar licks are)... but i cant deny this 15 yr old kid just annihilates everyone i know whos been a god playing the guitar.. and its not just because he can shred fast - but his techniques and phrasing is beyong anything ive ever seen..
This is the video that made me a fan of Max! very impressive and was surprised that he did not win. I watched many other videos in this contest. Max's creativity and style was by far the most unique. Salute!
That minute of Max is up there with one of the greatest minutes of guitar playing EVER. Out of this world!
Max is my favorite guitar slayer in the world. I’ve been playing lead guitar longer than he’s been alive. And he’s my idol. He’s gifted beyond comprehension
ths is the most technical guitar player in the history of humanity, the amazing thing is how unknown is he
He’s definately pretty unknown! Guthrie has been around a lot longer - and I feel like you’ve got to be a proper guitar player to know about him
AGREED
I've talked to Max on the phone and he's just that unreal on guitar plus one helluva nice guy
Let me re say that I'm old and suck at texting or messaging stuff. I texted with him on messenger a few times, he's very matured and grounded for his so called age and very disciplined in his practice and guitar ethics
Never heard Shawn lane, guthrie govan, allan Holdsworth, frank gamble ?
Young guitarists as skilled like him don't always come around.
He's on his way to becoming a legend
100% man!
@@andydavid9 reminds my of Eddie Van Halen a bit
Max is an absolutly alien in the guitar world...we need to preserve this kind of creatures.
(i follow him since he got 5 videos on his chanel....fun fact)
I've been following him since when he first posted that live yngwie vid. He used to respond to comments back then.
Best on earth ? Probably. Not just speed but beauty !
EXACTLY.
After two years I am watching the 2022 shorts of Ostro again and they still have the same energy as ever. Promenade and this one are my still top tear. So much fun to see Max shredding like a Paganini, the mix of absolute virtuosity, perfect harmonic feeling a rocking geek-genius.
The metal thingy is actually a thimble, ron bumblefoot thall uses it a lot and you can look it up
Thanks for the info man!
I would say Bumblefoot “invented that thing and has been doing it since the 90’s if not earlier..
I was waiting til you'd share this video of Max. You did it! Its awesome to watch. This is that very video that made me a fan of Max. I've watched this so so so many times over and i never get bored of his melodic runs in spite being really clean and fast. It made me realise that he didn't win that competition cause he was uncomprehensible with unlimited melodic notes in just that time frame. Max was so far ahead of our time. Still melting faces to this day.
Just incredible!!!! He comes from another universe!
родился новый Бог...
Max is at one with his guitar. Total confidence.
Aunque parece desconocido, este muchacho ruso, está batiendo la internet la UA-cam con su extraordinario talento, sencillamente es de otra galaxia, adelante Max el mundo te apoya
Despite he looks like all the kids cast on strangers combined in one....we are in front of one of the most incredible guitar players of the 21 century.....
His style actually exceeds his talent, that's why he's so bloody amazing.
The 'metal thing' on his pinky is a thimble. You know... something EVERYONE used to know. It's for sewing.
It’s great to see you got a new gig after Modern Family
😂😂😂
Max Ostro is definitely on another level. Wish there were more of him on here on YT.
You need to review Max's 2020 Kiesel solo contest entry. You won't be disappointed. :)
He is simply amazing, you can tell by watching him, he loves what he's doing, it's fun for him. I also enjoyed getting a close up of the Russian made Inspector Guitar he's playing.
It's not only the playing.... His facial expression is outstanding, funny and cool.
He's off the charts.
i used to love guitar ... but now i learned to think that absolutely there is no such a thing like "that is is the best guitarrist" .. we do have and will have always guitar players that will amaze us.. just a matter of what style we like more..
1. I'm pretty sure that's just a steel guitar finger pick on his pinky but I may be wrong about that. (It gives a little more hammer on his pinky when he's 4 finger tapping.)
2. That upstroke harmonic, when he looks at his finger. Look close, his pinky and ring finger are tucked. He plays that with his index and middle finger. Shorter finger (index) strikes the note and the longer finger (middle) strikes the harmonic right behind it. They're so close you only hear one note. I think he looks at his finger because he strikes it a little harder than needed. Probably caught his finger nail edge or something but I can assure you that note wasn't an accident that surprised him. I think the pain was what surprised him. Again, I may be wrong but I don't think so.
Hi man, very nice video.
I laughed hard as you said that when you press record you forget how to play guitar, because for me is the SAME.
And also you intelligently underlined two main points of his playing, that shows he really belongs to another dimension than the one of us poor mortals: he does impossible licks with no expression on his face. And also his playing is never just shredding, instead always rich in melodic content.
Good job man, it was pleasant and funny to watch your video
Thanks man! 🙌🏼
3:08 thimble for sewing
I would never accuse this guy of overshredding.
C'est un dé à coudre qu'il utilise... Ron Thal utilise aussi un dé à coudre avec sa Vigier Excalibur signature Modèle.
Still can't figure how he didn't get the guitar. Keisel should send him one for fun
Iam so thankful that you show us this guitarist. He's amazing, but wat strings does he use?
I want to be that good too. I’ve practiced for hours a day for 27 years. I’ll never be this good. Not even half had good. I’m a ear player with no lessons. So I don’t know cords names. I don’t know names of things people talk about like arpeggio, box, scale, theory, esc esc and I never learned any of that stuff because I never took any lessons. And I’d been playing for years by the time the World Wide Web came available and I just don’t research to learn the stuff like I should. I just play and listen and know what I’m doing by the sounds it’s making. That’s it. But no matter what I learn, I’ll never have the skill Max has. Not even close honestly. But because of Max, I’ve started practicing 2 extra hours a day. And some days I’ll practice for a full 8 hours. I’m going to start learning the names of what it all is esc too
Don't give up bud! I'm 59, and getting back into guitar playing after being married for 10 years to a woman that hated my guitar playing. (didn't find that out until after though...), and starting a business, and after quite a few years, seeing it get taken down by Amazon. But as long as you enjoy playing the guitar... that's all that matters. Rock on!
@@TimsCabana Good you’re getting back into it. I do have a passion for music. I play other instruments as well. I play drums, piano, harmonica, fiddle, bass, esc. But lead guitar has been my main focus. I wanted to make songs so I learned other instruments once I lm figured out what track recording was about 20 years ago. So I started making whole songs by myself. And I still do that today. I make all genres of music also. I make country, rock, metal, blues, rap, country rap, country metal, and I’ve even invented my own genre that’s a mix of alternative slow metal type playing. I’ve got songs posted if interested. Just click my picture. And click videos to see them in order as posted.
Can you play smoke on the water ??
@@horsemanoftheapocalapse5837 I could splay smoke on the water 20 minutes after getting my first guitar as a kid.
He is proof that they are aliens
Hahaha
It's a Thimble
So good!
I think he's got some Mozart in his DNA, you can tell by his hair and music ability!
He's got a thimble!!! hahahah What a creative use of it
Amazing player!
Just by his facial expressions - I can’t tell if he’s awake or asleep.
He's said he's been inspired by gypsy jazz guitarist extrordinaire Joscho Stephan, which isn't surprising at all.
I know personally the Guy who won...believe me...he deserved❤
He doesnt actually need a pick. He just uses it so the rest of us dont throw our axes in the garbage. Pretty cool of him
Max inspired me to quit guitar
😂😂😂
Thats the best comment i have read in months
When Max looks at his hand it's because he's switching pick positions I've seen him do it in other songs
He's using a thimble on his pinky which is used for sewing. He is a monster
Max said thst the winner deserved to win. He knew he went in a bit hsd. Most contestant agreed that the winner, 1ST PLACE* Kiesel Solo Contest 2019 - rucy #kieselsolocontest2019 was a fair win.
He is three steps ahead of any line he is playing
He’s wearing a sewing thimble, just like Bumblefoot uses.
I'd like to know what contestant beat that
If Max Ostro shreds like there's no tomorrow...... it's because THERE IS NO TOMORROW.
For real, he’s a savant
Has anyone noticed that he uses a thimble on his little finger to make those wild harmonics?
Dad rocker alert here! You are as good as him but in a totally different way! Frankly, he has serious skillz (see...I'm hip) but I found the playing clinical, cold, and lacking in soul and emotion...like it was a race to get to the end. All flash and no substance, but of course this is only the opinion of a 64 year old dad rocker that loves Gilmour, Beck, Andy Latimer etc.
Pete. Please do me a favor. Not just me but yourself. Go to my playlist and watch Max’s videos. I have all the best in one spot. It’s less than 30 videos and you may even find a little pleasant surprise mixed in there. Maybe even a couple. Now, pay close attention to everything Max is doing and try to watch some of them more than once. As a guitarist for almost 40 years myself, I can tell you confidently that Max is one of the greatest and most memorable guitarists to ever live. As of right now, he is my absolute #1 favorite. Start with some of the “not so shreddy” stuff like waterbear, when luck failed, I switched to semi hollow guitars, etc. Then watch “no feel, only pain and “out for blood”. I know what you are thinking. “This guy just doesn’t realize it ain’t my thing!” lol BS! I love Jeff Beck to death! I traveled to another state to see him live and I’ve watched Ronnie Scott’s 100 times. I’m also the biggest Floyd fan on the planet. I’m more of a “band” guy. Since I discovered Max a year ago, I haven’t listened to a band. His playing has been life changing for me.
Yeah, only problem is it did'nt complement the track well enough to win regardless of how many look what I can do moments he had. I can't believe you commented that it was musical because, NOT ! Watch Amar Alhoch's entry in the same contest if you want to hear the story that the track was meant to tell. COMPLETE WITH BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END, with the musicality being the star instead of look what I can do moments. Better tone also.
Bumblefoot thimble that's what he uses
He has a thimble on his pinky!
and that after making the barbarity that he has done, he risks everything to make the last harmonic by playing the last string with the thimble?...it could go perfectly wrong and annoy the whole take...and still...HE DOES IT ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
yeah, that's a boss move
I can hear some Buckethead in there...
Between Max and Tim Hanson, my guitars have served well as firewood. 🙂
😂😂😂
😮
your born with that otherwise we would all be pro golfers
Bro that a few years of 10-12 hours a day everyday
I dont wanna be a wannabe
Check out Anton Oparin.
Rodrigo Quesada?????
He has a TON of guitar faces in every vid i've seen. I didn't realize he has a thimble on his finger. LOL. I used to do that with me mom's thimble ...NOT TO THIS DEGREE! Now I'm sad.
Dood he has a thimble (ala Ron Thal) and does it F-ort-less-ly
Between Mateus Asato and Max, I don't know who makes me wish I'd chosen guitar instead of drums more...
You’re the first person to mention Mateus in my comments man! He’s my favourite player. I love his style 🎸
@@andydavid9 Some of his pieces go right through me. Get me outright emotional. His Jeff Beck inspired piece is one of them.
It's been 15 years since I spent the previous 15 behind a kit. Maybe I should buy a guitar now. I'm not getting any younger.
I wanna see Mateus play Vai's Hydra.
@@impulsivedesigns go for it man! Get a guitar!
3:07 Looks like a thimbal.
Pikimg figer metalic
Its a thimble
I think a thimble
He could have won the contest if only he had practiced a little more. /s
STOP REATCT VIDEO
I saw all this stuff in the 80s. I’m not impressed. Millennials wake up. It’s been done 40 years ago
Technical mastery with no melodic appeal. Super noodle playing. Not anything most people care to listen to.
He's f cking SPECTACULAR.
He was as good as Govan and Vai at 14 yrs of age...
Can you sing a melody of max ostro ?
Can you dance on his songs ?
Circus freak.
Making Steve AND Guthrie look like clowns... and he's still in possession of his soul (unlike Steve AND Guthrie.
I think Steve and Guthrie are just as good. Just different type of players. I do prefer Max over both though.
