Today we're rehearsing with the TRIO+ by DigiTech. This expanded version of the now-classic TRIO pedal is the new standard of practice tools, refined by player feedback. The new TRIO+ adds in a looper function with 24-bit A/D/A converters, and unlimited overdubs across 230 seconds of loop time. These loops and backing tracks can be mixed down as a song and saved onto a Micro SD card for easy recollection of ideas and licks. Several new genres are now present on the TRIO+, such as a long-awaited Metal as well as an Electronic Pop selection. Now, there are three different bass line modes, from the original melodic (busy) style to a pared-down root note mode. Up to five different song parts can be learned for a complete song (Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Outro) with programmable intensity on each. Much like the original, the Trio Plus has an extensive feature set, including multiple hands free modes for the optional FS3X switch, levels for Loops, bass and drum and several different outputs to headphones, mixers or amps.
Basically the best practice tool I've seen in 30 years of guitar.
+Mark Roddy Problem is you need a decent dedicated speaker to run the "band" into. It's not going to sound good into a guitar amp.
+DcsOrCity One of the best features is if you put it at the end of your signal chain, before the amp it will at least separate the drums and bass through your guitar amp as a clean signal so that you can still use effects on the guitar tone. Or just plug head phones in and it's all you need. Of course it is maximized through a bass amp or a PA or even a good portable speaker as said below...
+MegaCrasherMusic Considering that the MIXER OUTPUT is mono I guess its not going to sound good just plugged into a portable speaker (unless thats also mono). Would of love a simple 3,5mm stereo output for the bass/drums.
+Ryan Morgan have you ever tried running it into the effects loop so you can channel switch the amp but still have clean band sounds ?
+Johan Thelin It has a stereo headphone out for exactly that. I run it to my studio monitors.
You rock on guitar, John Cusak.
Haha the metal preset. Andy just set it up and the double bass-drum tempo comes in and he just lets off a little smile to say 'What the hell do I even do now at this tempo?'.
This thing sounds like it'd be a fantastic practice tool and songwriting, like the drum sounds aren't perfect but it's a gret start to lay down the core of a song.
Great video. For the first time, I now have a sense of how to gracefully end a song. Loved this gentleman's playing, too!
Cracked Actor. That's gotta be the sleaziest Bowie riff. So sad he's gone.
This thing is just incredible. I can get my songs down so quickly, share them with other musicians, and they get it first pass, vs. the old "not quite like that, more like this".. If a picture paints a thousand words.. the Trio is pure audio cinema! Thanks for a great product!
No doubt about it - Andy is the best reviewer out there.
Jesus Andy - you're such great guitar player. I love how you cover so many styles so well, and oh yeah, the demos are great too!!!
Great demo, one of the best POC and good music combined! Bravo
This is what I've been waiting for from this pedal.
That song you made reminded me of "let it be".
I'm getting this one it's just the best creative tool for home practicing and live solo gigs, wow I don't need a band a need a Trio plus band creator.
Best Demo of Trio plus yet!
Can't wait to get one, excellent review, thanks for doing the folk genre, I had wondered what it would be like.
you're an excellent guitar player man..the real deal
Really great creative tool. Great demo video, too! Thanks very much.
Just bought one, can't wait!
What an amazing song writing tool!
Great demo simple and efective
I have it and it is very useful for practising and creating quick song sketches.
Good job man. You always do a good job with these videos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you! -Andy
I want this so I can use it wrong! :-)
lol
not warry it can do it wrong all by itself' but maybe you mean that by using it wrong it would work "right"..then you'll teach me please'.
Are you a bass player?
Good demo Andy. And I'm stealing (I mean borrowing) that hip hop riff!
so glad I waited for presets and saving
I have had one of these for about 3wks and been workin with it none stop
is a great idea i watch every video of it before i purchased i even
downloaded manual to read through it. What i have found that none of the
videos showing a musician
singing a song with it its always putting leads and overbubs which is
cool if you choose that .
I have found that you cannot play a overdub the length of the whole song
like a acoustic part what it will do is
start looping back what you have just played and screws up the overdub
it stops and starts looping
Digitech tells me i have to learn all parts to make the song this
product is so new there is not very much customer
info out there its a great idea but some of these things could be solved
with a firmware upgrade via usb port
thanks
Thank for this demo
WOW. Just...wow.
Excellent review. Thanks, Andy!
My best friend bought me the regular Trio recently after I mentioned to him what a cool pedal it was (we've taken turns throughout our friendship of helping each other out).
On the first day of owning it I was using it in conjunction with my Zoom G5 and tried setting guitar loops on the G5 to play along with the bass and drum parts. Unfortunately they quickly drift out of sync.
I wanted to read the manual to find out what the effects button was for so I went to the Digitech website. There on the front page it said "Coming soon, the Trio+ band creator and looper". It had not been there just a couple of days before.
GRRR!!! Basically. The regular Trio is still very cool, but GRRR!!!
Great demo!! Before the digital age, there was a time when the only way you could learn a song was from a record player, cassette recorder, guitar teacher or friend. No tabs, no electronic learning tools, nothing. lol And I'm not that old...anyhow, this is a great investment for any musician. Just my two cents.
If you get what Digitech was going after,...you’ll quite enjoy this pedal/looper!...I have got one and have enjoyed it quite a while now with numerous Micro SDs full of covers + originals to perform live!!!🎶✨🎸
This thing hooked up to a PA for live shows or just an Amp at home for practice will have ya smiling.
The features let you do what you’ve seen and heard here on UA-cam..(watch as many as you can)...and you should get the gist.
Just about ANY song or sound can be created if you study the pedal well. Your versions of cover tunes can be achieved by using all the styles & genres.
Original tunes can be honed to perfection before presenting to band members or an audience.
So,..☝🏾get one and work on it to enjoy what it was designed to do...have fun playing music!!!...
✨🎸🎶👍🏾
Simple Bass or "U2 mode"
WOW, AWESOME!!!
Andy playing some kind of smooth jazz thing with the Les Paul? Now I've seen him playing every style!
dear gear-fairy...
will you please put 1 of these pedals under my pillow tonight whilst i sleep?
thank you ever so very, gear-fairy...
Why didn't I see this a few months ago? Would've made for a freaking awesome Christmas present.
Mark Roddy: +1! 42 years for me!
FIGURES!!! I buy the original Trio and the Jamman 6 months ago and now they combine them and improve them!!!
So ya Andy just shows why he’s the best here
Just add a guitarist button and we won't need musicians anymore.
dj's took care of that way before this looper came out
@@lakemaniac DJs are musicians.
Haha
@@fleckx no dude there not . pressing buttons turning knobs looping stolen parts from songs from REAL MUSICIANS dont make you one. The sad part is you guys really believe you are. Sorry guy being a D.J. dont make you a musician
@@lakemaniac i call DJs radio robbers lol
Damned I got the first one!!! and this came out!!!
Awesome!
This thing kicks serious arse
Yay, Cracked Actor in the intro
Nice upgrades! I would've liked an expression input to take control of any of the knob, though; but not everything is possible.
agree with everyone else who sprung for the original not knowing this would follow so soon. One beef with this demo - Andy doesn't show the onboard guitar sounds which were a minus on the first Trio pedal.
AKA “forever alone” pedal
It'd be nice to see a "Guitar" simulated instrument added to this. Bassists like cool toys too!
why? you can find a guitarist on any street corner to play with. Guitarists are a dime a dozen, just offer one a beer and he'll come over
I'll come over for a half a beer. (If you want me to leave, you have to give me the other half.)
I'm a guitarits and I can confirm this :)
Dane White Music , you know that is a great point. If trio had a version for bassists with guitar and drums for the bass players
I Guess its easier to sample a bass sound than a guita One. Try a roland sinthetizerer. It Will just cost a bunch lot of money.
Can you Undo the last Overdub while in the Band mode? I mean, I dont want it to delete the whole Loop but juat the last overdub (in case I messed it up)? Thank you!
Cracked Actor, baby!
Nice tune ....
I really want this
I plan to use this in live gigs. Is there a way to go from one song to the next without using your hands?
how do you set it up,,,can you go through the fx loop or do you have to go in the front,,,when I use a loop station in front of the preamp you can,t play a clean rhythm and then play a dirty solo because the rhythm reverts to dirty also,,!
I knew they were gonna add a looper I just knew it! - guess I have to buy the new one.
Yea I know! I bought v1 a few months ago, after a lot of thought that I should probably wait for v2, and sure enough lol. This looks like it fixes most of the things I dislike about the original - no looper, too busy bass line, no saving.
+aliceyellowdog
yea me too pisses me off but oh well I bet you'll see alot of trios on ebay now
How can i use looper separate from drums footswitch as it cant be stopped alone n always stops with the drums.... Or do i hav to use a footswitch
A newer version of this pedal could have a melody generator for the bass, based on the melody you gave it first, so that when you change parts you already have it there. Also, recording a loop and at the same time having the Band function to generate the backing track would be a cool feature.
This could replace my BeatBuddy and my Ditto looper. I see this product is over a year old. Is there a better option out there at this time or is this the best pedal of this kind? It sure looks useful.
Have been using the Trio+ for a year as a live sequencer. Have found I can pack 60 songs on a single disc if you keep the back-up simple (i.e. AABA pattern on a typical song or jazz track). Does anyone else do this, and any suggestions? Also works great as a drums only unit when you need to quickly grab a request or jamming track.
Can you control it with a behringer fcb10 10 or do you have to use their footswitch?
Okay, now I have to sell my Trio to get this one.
I want this thing.
I wish I could play with myself as well as Andy can.
I don't know why they still haven't added a USB for file management? Other than that I thought the first Trio was pretty good. This pedal looks to be the new standard. Awesome pedal from DigiTech and more than makes up for discontinuing the Bad Monkey :)
Hello, just wondering would this have to be pre-programmed before a live gig or can be used on the fly as you play?
Thanks
Gonna use this live, Much better than paying Others, Especially when you dont wearn making money :-)
Will this work well with a Boss ME-80 effects unit placed before it?
What would you recommend for an amp to get the bass and drums to shine through with this pedal?
I need things like this cause after the 80 people changed and people are not dependable cause of family and jobs I'm still rocking tho even by myself I play at church band now also even that is hard to get people now days I miss the good old days alot
Please, I bought the Digitech Trio Band + Looper and I could not correctly save only the beats on the 12 memory banks. I record 2 or
3 different rhythms using the red song button. When I access the bank via the style knob, the pace is different. The manual does not explain clearly how to do it. Can you help me?
If possible mentioning the step by step.
This should have been the first version. I feel bad for folks who got the original.
That would be me... :-/
Cabby Cabby yeah like me
So now I’m gonna have to sell my original and get this one!
I was just looking for a Whammy when I saw the Trio Band Creator V1 had a weird price drop considering it used to cost like $300usd (where I live) when it came out and now it costs arround $100... Now I know why
Andy should be in the Hall of Fame
How did you get the drummer to count it off? at 5:23
Can you record the backing tracks onto a 4 or 8 track recorder?
Looks like a great update on this practice/live tool. Does the Trio+ have 3/4 time signature? Very limited & poor 3/4 beats was a big downer with the Beatbuddy, although BB has just recently released a dedicated 3/4 update pack (finally). I was lukewarm about the original Trio. Now very interested in the new Trio+ and plan to buy one. Great demo again, thanks Andy!
Now they are talking, a midi in would be great too!
+EnduroMusic that'll be in the next gen in 6 weeks time ,this time next year will prob be up to gen 5, Digitech taking the p$%&s
Would be nice to hear the metal tones.
How can you record a loop and not have it be distorted through the amp? Can you run the loop through an acoustic amp or mixer/monitor and have your playing (solo) guitar part go separate to the amp? I have a Fender modeling amp.
yes
Can it be used with other instruments than guitars...like synths?
How do you do to recond more than one song? Thanks.
Got a keyboard amp that was collecting dust...but not anymore :)
Mine came in the mail today, question. My looper worked for about 15 minutes and now the green light won't even come on. I didn't drop it, it's a brand new item and not refurbished. Wtf is up with this thing?
You have to have the audiolastic knob to the 12 oclock position to enable the looper
Have they improved the bass and drum sounds?
Can you bypass the effects and use your own effect pedals
I would have preferred Reggae to E-pop.
does it do "hand clapping" ?
I just got this and having an EXTREMELY difficult time to figure out how it works. I read the manual and followed it step by step. I am trying to use it as I watch this video and it works nothing like it. I am seeing completely different lights on the pedal. I can not even reset it using the methods they posted online. I've never struggled with anything this much, and am writing this desperately. Thinking of returning it.
+1... !
It may be that you have a faulty Micro SD card in it or the Trio+ can’t /couldn’t “format” the one you’re using properly.
The Trio+ can ONLY use simple Class 10....40ms 8~16 etc; type SDs...(doesn’t matter how many gigas because it can only save 12 songs of data!...so 16 and above giga are just wasted)
So 8 giga type SDs are best!
So I suggest that you re-boot the one you’re using or get a new class 10 /8 gigabyte /40ms type Micro SD card and try it out again.
I’ve found thru experience that it won’t function properly even if it initially reads/formats card,..such as a class 10/ 8giga 30ms type will fail...40ms seem to be flawless and work fine.
Sure hope that you’ve worked out the issues by now and this info helps because the Trio+ IS a great pedal to own for many reasons.
Good Luck & Great Music!..b(‘_’ )
Thanks for the tutorial but you didn't use the external footswitch...I would really like to see how that ties in.
He was using it to switch parts... he should've had a foot-cam.
Can you use a behringer fcb1010 foot switch instead?
You run it in fx loop, or chain?
I had this pedal and loved it. There's only a few major down sides. No midi. Would be nice to hook up other loopers for us multi-instrumentalists or trigger backing tracks. Tempo knob is too easy to turn, and it must be at dead center to use the looper. If you find that you don't like the tempo of a song you've made, you can't simply adjust and put loops over it, you have to redo the whole song. No pause!!! If you stop, you have to start the song over. The bass will not change chords on off-beats. They should have put more drum fills on there; one per style is simply not enough. NOT BUFFERED!!!
Word of advice if you get this pedal: USE A METRONOME. Also it hates any pedals in front of it, you have to plug your guitar straight into the pedal or it will not be able to learn.
Not a detent, but the light turns off when the knob is at center.
Now add a 3 USB midi with separate channels for DAW recording and a whammy expression pedal and switches for clean , moderate , distortion , and synth effects !!!
fuck yeah dude groovy
I have the original but wish I had the Trio plus
Super Demo ! Juste l'objet que j'attendais pour progresser et peut être composer un peu. Par contre carton rouge à Digitech de ne pas l'avoir sorti directement dans cette version ou dans les 2 . Politique commerciale très craignons
I'm very eager to get my hands on this and give it a test drive. I've been looping for over 15 years and tried several brands. This looks very promising except for ONE thing... It has the ability to save your songs on a Micro SD card which is great BUT... what if you know 300 to 400 songs because you play for a living like I do. How do you recall which song you want??? There's no display on the pedal to tell you if you're recalling song number 1 or song 329.
I agree, it's reason why i think it's not realy for live playing:-(
+sentinelle11 I called Digitech the other day and they said they're going to release an app so you can bring up which song you're looking for using your phone. Hopefully the app will work well and not have glitches.
Has anyone had trouble getting the pedal to learn 6/8 time without having to manually resetting after? Every time I play 6/8 time the pedal plays in 4/4 time. I have to stop playing and manually adjust the pedal.
last song sounds familiar...anyone know what it is?
Cool... but no FUNK setting!!!! Bummer
The manual shows you have to plug the guitar straight into this pedal. How do you get a distorted rhythm?
R E Go to rock mode then press the green light in the upper left-hand corner until it turns red you will be in the distortion mode
Is it compatible with any footswitch?
Got one,. it's good to practice with, but I don't like how it screws with the guitar's tone. It's the only thing in the chain, and straight into the amp the guitars sound much fuller but when run through the trio +, it sounds noticeably thinner or "digital". like it chops a lot of lows off, and my amp's bass is up all the way. Digitech says there is no updates or tonal adjustments on it. bummer.
Jeff Nickoloff and you’re running through your effects loop? Assuming you have one?
Merry Xmas to me
