Rest in peace Howie. It's been decades since we sat together in your studio in Great Neck, NY, but I remember clearly many of those Friday nights. I regret not keeping in touch after the move. You should have got 3 lifetimes to continue your work. You raised the guitar to its next level. Your body of work will likely not be forgotten for generations of guitar players to come. To the family of Howard Morgen, you have my deepest sympathy.
Howard, you are not here anymore and are still missed very much by me and all those that knew you... I always remember you playing this song in your studio during my lessons, such a lovely arrangement....
I've worked a lot with Mr. Morgen's materials, and I'm still as blown away as the first time I heard him. The thing I like the most about his arrangements is that he doesn't dumb down a thing - the student has to stretch to meet him, not the other way around. This is what keeps me at it.
Thank you. Your right! Lots of time and love went into this unforgettable standard Arranging a great song like this allows one to become a small part of the tune and that is so satisfying. Howaqrd.
WOW! What complimentary comments. Thank you so much. Glad you are enjoying the material. As far as genius goes, it's really more about hard work and sticking to something until it feels right. Howard
Howard - what an honor to hear you play this lovely arrangement! I'm a guitarist for forty-five years, and I recognize your skill, reputation, and soulful playing. Beautiful arrangement - keep the music playing...
Ahh - at last - a chance to say an ENORMOUS THANK YOU for all your absolutely stupendous books of fabulous arrangements and arranging methods. Your books have given me tremendous pleasure over the years - busy on Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas just now - wonder why? :-) In any case, your approach makes the guitar feel like a much bigger place to be, with more room to breathe and more colours and flavours - and with little reason to envy a pianist. Again, many, many thanks Mr Morgen!!
Wow...i've just found you on UA-cam, Mr Howard...i've been reading your article awhile back on GP Mag....I'm a big Fan of your work. thanks for sharing this nice vid...!!!!
Stardust is included in my new book/CD Through Chord-Melody and Beyond. It is written in standard notation and tab. A number of other song titles you may have seen on UA-cam are also included in that publication. Howard Morgen
Thank you so much for your generous comment! I grew up with this great Hoagy Carmichal standard ive never heard a bad performance of it. The notation and tab for this arrangement is avail)able in my latest book. Through Chord Melody and Beyond. (Alfred Publishingl
Thanks for your order for Through Chord-Melody and Beyond and for your kind words. I'd love to see a photo of your father but I'm not sure he'd love to see a photo of me! Howard.
Hi, Thanks again for your very generous comment. I simply use pen and paper to write my arrangements and send the material to the publisher to put into print. You can compare my work to a mystery writer who types out his stories on an old Underwood. I guess I 'd rather spend my time with the guitar rather than with a computer. Some of the tunes in my book now on UA-cam are "Round Midnight, Alone Together, The More I See You, Paper Moon and My Funny Valentine.(19 arrs. in all) Regards, Howard
@howardmorgen Howard, you are most welcome - I hope you find as much pleasure in that list of pieces as I do! I could add a thousand more, but believe me, your place is right there alongside those others we both admire! I told a lie - I'm working on "Sant aClaus is Coming to Town" It was late and I was so happy to discover your channel! Regards, Pat
Hi Howard, Thanks so much for your generous site. Your version of Stardust is the best I have heard. Whose version of the tune did you use as your inspiration ...what is perhaps Nat King Coles?
Howard, this must be the most beautiful solo guitar arrangement I've ever heard. Your harmonic choices are exquisite and you play it magnificently. Bravo! I'm going to order your book, especially hoping the other arrangements are of this superb character. As someone who arranges songs myself, a few questions if you don't mind. Do you use any modern tools, such a Sibelius and a midi guitar interface for note input, or is it simply paper and pencil to create your arrangements? Thanks.
Thomas Jefferson wrote an extraordinary condolence letter upon hearing of the death of John Adams' wife, Abigail, it was dated November 13, 1818. I would like to draw everyone's attention to it. I don't believe a better condolence letter is possible.
Thank you so much for letting me know how much my material has helped you. Please feel free to contact me any time you may have a question about my material. Best wishes for a happy, healthy safe and musical Nre Year! Howard
