Awesome! Can't believe I have missed this vid for so many years. I also love the way Howard used to reply to compliments in the comment section. He must have been a wonderfully humble man.
It is a loss for all of us who appreciated his musicianship. He had become my very dearest friend over the past few years. I really miss working with him and our time together. Not only was he a superb musician and awesome instructor, he had a great sense of humor.
Sorry for the delay in answering you comment. I am the one who shot his Fingerboard Breakthrough. Howard wrote many articles for guitar player over the years of his career. We sadly said good bye to Howard Morgen at his memorial service. He left us Feb 15, 2012. We all miss him dearly!
Next to Caravan, this is my favorite of Howard's arrangements. Thelonius Monk was originally from Rocky Mount, NC. I saw Thelonius when I served in the Army in Japan. What a treat to have the chance to work with Howard to make this video. We all miss the maestro!
To all of Howard Morgen's fans and friends, I am saddened to say that he is now in hospice care and not expected to survive. I have told you all that he has been dealing with cancer for several years now and recently suffered a relapse of his cancer and over the weekend he fell and suffered a massive brain concussion. We all hope for the best, but the doctors have said we should not expect him to recover. Sincerely, Davis Stillson
This is one of my favorites of Howard's arrangements. I shot his videos for Fingerboard Breakthrough as well as all of his other videos on UA-cam. We miss him, he died this past February
Dear Mr. Morgan, the first time I heard this song was by Brian Smith (Saxophone) and it was my favorite version. Your playing has really changed that, this was awesome, fluid and full of expressions. Thank you!
Thank your very much for your comment on "Round Midnight" I'm happy to have had some influence on what I think will be a very promising career with the guitar. Howard
Thank you so much for your comment. You made me very happy and I'm sure you made Thelonius happy too. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year Howard Morgen
I know he would appreciate your comment! We all miss him, he was my mentor, my close personal friend as well as my role model for music and life and more!
Now I'm really excited! I just ordered a copy of Through Chord Melody And Beyond on the recommendation of a recent review in one of the guitar magazines. I'm really looking forward to studying from your book. Thanks! This particular song is very lovely.
thank you for your comment. i agree with you about the tempo but that great all time standard would sound fine at a moderate tempo as well. I dont know a jazz player who dosent favorite that song. Best regards, Howard
Thanks so much for your comment from Brazil. I might add that I have in turn learned so much from you Brazilian jazz guitarists. No one swings the way you guys do. Best regards, Howard
@KWhat a nice thing to say,! Thank youfor thobse kind and generous words, It gives me great pleasure as a teacher ad player to be of some small influence and inspiration. Your words mean much to me, All the bgest and stay in touch, Howard1

Mr. Morgen - I just discovered you today ! ...was looking for training material and found your Fingerboard Breakthrough Intro video - ...was so impressed I ordered the course ! Last week I bought my first archtop - an Eastman 805 This week I discover you and your Eastman !!! I'm just starting to study music. I'm doing simple arrangements of my favorite classics for solo instrumentals on guitar and want to improve. Danny Boy is one I'm working on ! - Larry in Nashville
A bit more 'slow n steady' than Monk, but I LIKE it!! Feels like walking alone on a cold clear night on certain streets in Chicago..early fall with some light rain. streetlamps buzzing, not too many cars..reminds me of a Phillip Marlowe type thing almost..hehe Outstanding rendition. Thank you for sharing with us.
Dear Mr Morgen,I've learned about from you.Recently I had to arrange some songs of my quartet to play alone not to loose the gig space.I would be grateful if you see my arrangement of Anos dourados from Jobim.That's- Anos Dourados Jarbas - on YT.Thank you very much,God bless you Mr morgen
.....Howard, I know you write guitar books. I have some of them. They're some of my favorites. Do you have your "round midnight" version in a book? Did you write it out? Could I ahhh procure it somehow? It's stunning.....thanks bob
Dear Mr. Morgan, the first time I heard this song was by Brian Smith (Saxophone) and it was my favorite version. Your playing has really changed that, this was awesome, fluid and full of expressions. Thank you!
His technique is amazing! The guitar tone sounds completely acoustic. This is the reason I would like to play a spruce top acoustic jazz box. I see a pick-up, but I also see a condenser mic, so I wonder if this is a mix of amplified and acoustic tones?
Thank you so much for your kind words and yoursubscripyion . You can find the notation and tac for this arrangement in my latest book for Alfred Publishing THROUGH CHORD MELODY AND BEYOND Happy Holidays , Howard
Thank you for favoriting my arrangement on your channel. Im not sure, but Ithink the intro for thiis song can be found in Alfreds Just Jazz Real Book. If not,try on line or get the sheet music. Happy New Year, Howard book Book
Lovely interpretation - thanks. You have inspired me to post a video response of ourselves playing the tune with vocals. Greetings from Bristol, England. Please keep it coming!

I enjoyed this greatly. You are one of my few true guitar idols. I've been practicing a lot in the hopes of someday being as good as you and certain others. I'm 15 so I've got a headstart lol. Thanks for the video, I appreciate it.
A lovely arrangement of this classic Howard. I am learning it now. Sadly, I don't read music or TAB. I just have to listen! Thanks for this. It's on my favourites because it's just the job to relax to as well! Thanks again. John
To me this is like classical guitar on steel strings. I am not sure any of this is translatable into an improv sphere, which is where jazz is at its most relevant?
Dear Mr. Morgen, often I see your videos. Your interpretations are technically brilliant with great pathos and style. Encouraged me to play with passion and improve my technique. A sincere thanks from Berlin Paolo
Dear Mr. Morgan, the first time I heard this song was by Brian Smith (Saxophone) and it was my favorite version. Your playing has really changed that, this was awesome, fluid and full of expressions. Thank you!
